Dont let assholes get to you.. Honestly I consider deaf/mute people more talented than speaking people because sign language is very hard. I try but its so confusing! Keep on, dont let people bother you. You are a great person!

I'm hearing impaired/deaf and work for a outside school hours care right now but all my previous jobs were retail such as Costco (bakery), Toys 'R' Us & Target. Right now, I'm studying to become a make up artist & my goal is to work on a tv or movie set after I've finished school. :)
I'm hard of hearing (bordering on deaf) and I'm a librarian. Seriously, don't let anything stop you.

Very interesting.. I am working for Medicare Australia in Brisbane. I am working as mail room for 15 years. I have a deaf friend who is working with me too.. No problems with hearing at my work in the city....
I was moved by those inspiring mentors. Today I feel like I am ready to come for interview and I know that the advertising company will hire me as creative artist as if I am hearing impaired. Now, i watched this video and realized that there is no limitations of job for hearing impaired people. 😇

I am an American Sign Language student. Where can I learn other dialetcs of sign language? I am particularly interested in Auslan.
+Spam in a can there are not many places that you can go to learn other Signed Languages but I bet if you look hard enough you can find them online. I would not suggest learning from youtube. Many of the people trying to show/teach sign on youtube are just learning themselves. If you want to start with an easier transition try LSF (aka French Sign Language). Its the closet to ASL.
It's how fingerspelling is done in Auslan (the language used here). I think BSL fingerspelling is the same.

@thesterlingjoe- I'm Deaf American and I'm getting my PhD education at Ryerson University in Toronto. Why do ask where Deaf people get their education? What do you really want to know? My classmates are hearing and they learn alongside me. Is it about communication? Some Deaf people use ASL or BSL or Auslan to communicate in. So we use interpreters for when Professors don't know sign.

Hi. i'm hearing, but have been using American Sign Language since 1991. I was enjoing seeing the difference between Aussie and American Sign. Despite the differences, I still understood about half of what was said.

I'm still try to learn. Yesterday night I had my first social contact with deaf people and I was lost most of the time, nothing similar to the rythm of my class teachers xD.

we (deaf people) go to these amazing places called schools and universities. Perhaps you've heard of them? One can learn quite a lot in these places...

@TheSterlingJOe Oh god.. They get the same education as hearing people. Some of them get the service assistance with sign-language interpreters, note takers, and much more. Remember this quote that inspire the deaf community: "We can do anything, expect to hear." I am studying to be an architect.

actually it's Auslan... Australian Sign Language, which is a linguistically related to BSL.
@8588cee It's Auslan. But Auslan is derived from BSL, though.
My BSL isn't great (Level 2) but I can understand that - looks like AusLan is very similar.
im feel happy for you, i think disabled ppl in any way are better humans than the non disabled. I can't really tell why i feel like this is just my opinion of what i've seen so far :) I really would like to get to know such ppl like you but unfortunately i don't really know how to... :'D

I get the impression most Deaf people have extraordinary perceptions about the the people they see, and I bet some of them would make excellent psychologists. I remember a gentleman came in my shop told me his Deaf wife could always tell if someone was telling a lie. I would guess after years of communicating through sight hand language and it's made most of them highly perceptive at picking things up about people.

That's like saying there should be a worldwide language for hearing people. Language is something that is developed from culture and over time, and that's part of the beauty to it. The American Deaf Culture is bound to be very different from British or Japanese or French Deaf Culture, so their languages will be different.

I have to say Japan is much more backward than this country in this way.It is very difficult for deaf people to get a job and work with non-handicapped people in Japan.

This is Auslan not BSL however they are similar in many ways
Hmmm maybe, but I heard about a man who never heard sounds and after years doctors fixed it somehow. Everyone was happy, but for him it was a nightmare - all those noises were painful, made headaches and he feared them because he couldn't use to them. Eventually he asked scientists to make him deaf again...

I was a very good Cricket Player in my School days. I have achieved a Champion Trophy for my school i.e. Koshish School for the, Deaf at Malad, Mumbai. I have learned English Typewriting. I have worked mall for Packing and cooking sweets etc.

Are you deaf? ASL started from "French Deaf Culture" in the 1800s. English is an international language. Many in American "Deaf Culture" feel that there should also be an international deaf "language". Like it or not.
