    The EU ban is for "All air carriers certified by the authorities with responsibility for regulatory oversight of Kyrgyzstan" - which typically means they don't trust the aviation regulator to actually regulate.

    A few years ago, I did the trip from Bishkek to Osh on a taxi with two friends. It took 11 hours, cost us a grand total of $80 and allowed us to enjoy the spectacular landscapes, ranging from mountain passes to a beautiful lake in a very hot and dry area of the country.

    The ban is there for a very good reason, which is a systematic and willful failure to enforce mandatory regulations. The aircraft might be new and in top condition now..the question is how it will be in a few years when the typically very relaxed approach to maintennance and safety bulletins has had a chance to take effect.

      this. people can call racism or whatever they want, but like when i fly a battered-down a320 that is rocking so hard while rolling in a calm wind situation that the engines are close to hitting the ground, no autopilot the entire 2hr flight, full flaps while still crusing altitude... like no. especially the last one. i thanked the designers of those airplanes so many times, cause it was surely not the maintenance guys who kept it going. i'm undecided on the crew, i'll never know how much of it was due to their lack of training and how much was bad maintenance. (this was with some small air asia subsidiary, so definitely not the worst you can get, but also not great by any means.)

      Bullshit. Most current Kyrgyzstan airlines fly very old MD80/A320/RJ85/B733s and they’ve never had a serious accident outside of some hard landings. Also, this airline belongs to the Turkish Airlines.

    • @briangentle5515
      @briangentle5515 3 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      Yes, exactly. The problem is likely to be due to sloppy government control, so that when a spot check took place at a western airport of a Kyrgyz airliner, it failed. Once that happened too often, the whole country was banned. Then it was a case of "give a dog a bad name".

    • @johnhaller5851

      It's the entirety of the system. Can you buy your license, are the pilots properly type qualified, are they well practiced in CRM. It's easy to fly modern planes when nothing goes wrong. But when an engine fails during takeoff, will the pilots properly manage it? Air Manus may have all the programs in place, but who is auditing the performance of the processes? That's what gets your country banned. The US recently restricted Mexican carriers for regulation deficiencies, not a ban, but embarrassing.

    One of the things regulators look at now is operational procedures and training. Specifically Crew Resource Management(CRM).
    CRM goes into how flight crews interact. Do older experienced pilots rule the cockpit by intimidation or does the younger 1st officer have the ability thru training to raise questions in a difficult situation.
    It is one of the reasons for a two person crew on the flight deck. In any number of aircraft incidents a co pilot quite literally sat on his hands as a senior pilot made deadly errors. The list is long of cases.
    Many times a carrier and regulatory authority had to fight with cultural norms to make improvements.
    In the US it has resulted in a period of over ten years without any passenger fatalities. It includes things like the USAir ditching in the Hudson River with no fatalities, in freezing cold temperatures.

    Why is there no A220 in Europe? Three years ago, I flew this plane (although then it was called CS300) from Riga to Amsterdam and back from Riga to Moscow.. It was the first A220 of "Air Baltic"

    The Bombardier CSeries is not a regional airliner. Its range is similar to A320neo.

    01:33 "They couldn't have just given it to me at the hotel."
    They are not allowed to give retrieved cards back to people, but even if the card was given to you, you would not be able to use it, because any swallowed card becomes inactivated to prevent fraud. So in any case, you would have to go to the bank and fill all paper work to activate your card.

      @andij605 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah, the only lucky constellation is when eg. it's an ATM attached to a branch of a bank, with that branch open at the time. in that case if they feel like it and you have a good story they can retrieve it for you right then and there. if they're not open, forget it.

    What a shame that this airline alongside other Kyrgyzstani airlines are banned in Europe! So how are you gonna back to the UK when it's time to go home? But anyway, you're one of the best aviation TH-camrs! You deserve to stay in TH-cam for many more years to come!

      Probably fly on an airline that isn't from Kyrgzystan

    • @lucascalma605
      @lucascalma605 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FoxyRhino I know, but the real question is which airline? I know that at the end of his Nepal trip, Noel flew on Etihad from Kathmandu to Manchester via Abu Dhabi, then at the end of his few days trip in Africa last time, he flew back to Manchester via Doha, so maybe let's see this time. Maybe he'll fly on Aeroflot again, but he's so adventurous these days, so something tells me that he'll fly back home on a different airline again.

    Hi
    You genuinely make amazing videos and the reviews are very informative, covering just the right amount of information coupled up with the uncanny humour. I hope you visit Lahore, Pakistan someday and I can take you around the city. Great content, I watch all your videos ever since you had 20k subscribers.
    Cheers Noel!
