    I visited Paris (and other French cities) three times in my life and I smell nobody's terrible stinky in my sightseeings (and I took a lot of subways around the city). I visited Vienna (beautiful, by the way) and THERE I smell people very stinky on the subway (It was terrible). I'm from a tropical country (Brazil) and I do shower a lot (03 times a day or more).
    When I went to Europe, in late autumn, the weather was mild and the temperatures are not so high, so I found it necessary to take only 02 baths a day (when I woke up and before I go to sleep), and I found myself clean. I think it’s a cultural issue associated with the climate of colder countries. I just LOOOOVE Paris too much!!! The country (France) and the people are always in my heart.............

    Ok, I am french but I am currently living in London for about 4 years now. It is true that there are a lot of clichés about french people and the fact of being outside my homeland make me realised that most of them are true. This is mainly due to cultural differences rather than real flaws meaning that according to someone standards, the other will act differently and in a weird way but the other will think the completely opposite about you. For instance, it is true, us french people, we are protesting A LOT and moaning a lot as well but in turn, me as french in London, I will say that English people don't express themselves and prefer to hide everything down when something is not right... this is a matter of point of view. The fact of moaning and protesting a lot is just a consequence of being more direct. This may also explain why we are identified as rude as well.

    I made my own analyse about the reputed "french rudeness". I think it's a mostly american feeling taking roots in the cultural differences of mentality : America has a deep culture of optimism, positivity and motivation mindset. Its common to talk to anybody you want to talk to on public spaces, markets or whatever. If you seek help to somebody, he will cheerfully act like you're in a friendship, living you a phone number even though he may often don't give a damn about you and never call you back later on. Friendliness is a natural social code in america even though it may be fake, and every interaction shall be positive.
    France on the other hand does not have such a culture of interaction. It is almost rude to stop someone in the street to chat about something because people have things to do and must not be disturbed. If you actually need something, french indeed have a politeness etiquette which enable to friendly ask for something, but if you step outside of it "Bonjour" + "excusez moi de vous déranger.." you'll not receive a nice greeting. Things tourist don't know about most of the time.
    To be simple, americans put loads of vaseline on their exchanges.

    • @EasyFrench
      @EasyFrench  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's very interesting to read yur opinion about that, thanks for sharing! It indeed echoes other feebacks about social interactions in France we have heard from other Americans.

    My grandparents told me it is quite true that up until a couple of decades ago, full-body-and-hair bathing or showering were a once-weekly affair all over Europe, not just France. One would wash their face and ears in the morning, brush their teeth, and possibly wash one's feet in the evening. As most people know by now, perfume was invented centuries ago to mask the body odors of the upper crust, who hardly bathed at all. In Victorian England, those who could afford a bath tub bathed , but the poor were likely to bathe only once a year.

    • @francaisfacileCyril
      @francaisfacileCyril 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree. My grandparents had to go to a public bath, so they would not bath often for a good practical reason. Now it's because of the problem of the lack of water that people avoid taking bath in France. Baths are not really eco-friendly. Especially because French people don't bathe in the same water (I saw families bathe in the same water in England, and of course it's the norm in Japan).

    I have been twice in less than a year to Paris and besides they always think I am French ( until my terrible accent tells them I am foreigner 😹 ), I have found people in Paris very nice and despite what others say, friendly.
    I don’t like staring at people or talking to strangers and I am very respectful to others and that’s pretty much the same way with French people.

    Here in Germany i have never heard that French people don't shower. I'm surprised this was mentioned so often. But we do have the cliché that a typical French breakfast is just coffee and cigarette and that they smoke cigarette after cigarette all day long. Then there is the cliché that they are rude unless you talk to them in their language. And that they drive around in old run down cars but spend their money on nice food and clothes instead, while in Germany having a nice car is a priority to many people.

    I've been living abroad for 10 years, surrounded by foreigners almost exclusively, and in my experience, there's some kind of fascination or obsession with France and the French, whether it's positive or negative. There's ALWAYS something to say about the French. No matter what, no matter how trivial it is, when it comes to the French, people want to see something more complicated in it. And they cling to their stereotypes, even if you prove them wrong XD Once I was dressed in black from head to toe and I got 'you look so French today'. Yup, being dressed in black is a French exclusivity - however you've never seen me like that before, so how is it 'so French' exactly, knowing that I'm also half Spanish? :) You have no idea how many times I tell my friends or workmates 'oh, this one too? Let me add it to the very long list of French stereotypes!' That said, we all get along so well, we come from everywhere around the world and it's amazing to share and teach each other so many things, I love it to bits.

    Here in London you don't hear the cliches about berets, striped t-shirts, baguettes, croissants. I think it's because we now have 140 different ethnic groups in London and it's pointless to engage in ethnic stereotypes. Also, French style is recognised as supreme, so what's wrong with striped t-shirts? I have seven. And berets are really in again. As for baguettes and croissants, everyone cheers up when a French patisserie moves into the neighbourhood. The only downside is you know you are going to put on 10 kilos that you won't be able to shift. The way you speak English is totally seductive and cute. But perhaps there is a certain tendency towards endless argument about nothing at all. I blame Voltaire and all those enlightenment types. Love your channel.

    i lived in France and married a French girl. We were married for 24 years (and are still great friends). This has not been the experience of my life. But, I know now that my family may not have been entirely typical as they were very educated. First we lived an hour outside of Paris. There was nobody in my wife's direct family, who baring some really constraining thing (camping, etc.), would not shower every day, including my mother and father-in law, my wife's brother, his wife, and their son. In the time I was dating many French girls, before I met my wife , (those days made me KNOW it was going to be a French girl and wow what a cultural experience) there was only one of many I dated whose hygiene may have been less than pristine (and we didn't date long).
    But, I do not have experience living in Paris even though I visited frequently with family frequently for the weekend for museums, theatre, etc. So who knows. I'm not prepared to say because I don't know. But I would not trade the growth I felt as a person from my French family on so many levels for an American girl given another 20 tries (family is amazing there--it was so much stronger).
    If I had the chance to do it all again I'd marry a French lady; my ex-wife, but I wouldn't f**k it up this time.

    2:45 Omar Sharif aimait ça chez les Parisiens. Et c'est vrai que je suis souvent tombé sur des gens "désagréablement gentils" à Paris, il ne faut pas trop s'attacher à la forme.
    D'ailleurs je regarde juste cette vidéo car Paris me manque.

    The first time I visited Paris I was a bit intimidated, as my French wasn't (and still isn't) that great. Everyone was nice and friendly and I got by just fine, until the taxi ride to the airport. The driver (wearing a beret, mind) made a big show of correcting me when i asked to go to "terminale une" (terminale is masculine), then dropped me off at Terminal 2 just to be a jerk! He was definitely the exception though.

      Of course it is difficult to understand, but keep in mind that the goal is not to understand everything, but the global meaning of what people say. Or, if you're a beginner, just to recognize a few words. You have to adapt it to your own level 🙂 You can also make the video slower, it helps a lot

    En vrai, ayant vécu en France entre l'âge de 6 à 17 ans, ça m'étonne toujours comment on est tellement friand des écharpes en France. Genre, dac, je comprends que je vous croyez que c'est stylé, mais ça vaut pas la peine d'en porter une lorsque ça fait 30 degrés dehors l'été.

    En Colombie, on dit que les français ne se douchent pas 🤣, qui boit beaucoup de vin, qui n'aime pas parler en l'anglais au écoute du mauvais français. Maintenant que je vivre là, je sais que ce n'est pas la règle, ça dépend de la personne et la situation. Alors, a mon avis, je crois que les français fument beaucoup, qui aime le soleil, le fromage, le vin et faire de sport.

    Moi, j'étais en France 3 fois. Je dois franchement admettre que les Français ne sont pas très polis, très gentils avec les autres et qu'ils sont chauvins.
    Mais je dois aussi admettre que le pays est très beau, les paysages magnifiques, l'architecture splendide, la gastronomie délicieuse (oui, les fromages sont très bons et le vin aussi). En ce qui concerne le pain je pense qu'il est meilleur dans ma patrie (Pologne).
    Je dois admettre aussi que les Français râlent beaucoup. Je ne sais pas si c'est leur sport national ?
    Je ne pense pas qu'ils puent.
    Je ne pense pas qu'ils soient plus chics que les autres.
    Je pense qu'ils ne sont pas très bons en langues étrangères.
    La grève, c'est leur spécialité. J'admire leur capacité à se réunir pour revendiquer qqch. Je voudrais bien que mes compatriotes aient cette même capacité.
    Les Français aiment corriger les autres.
    Et débattre. Pourquoi tant discuter ?
    La langue est belle. Les chanteurs d'autrefois c'est un trésor.
    Voilà, c'est mon observation personnelle.
