      Slack on school work
      Drink
Do drugs (my middle school was something)

I went to school with welts on the backs of my legs, never wore anything above the knees cuz of it. But my dad was super extreme and the state took us out of the house until he got moved out forcefully. Then they gave him a choice between prison or counseling, he chose counseling because in prison they Don't treat child molesters very nicely. Any way I never let anyone see until social services came to my school and asked to see them. I'm starting to remember why I blocked out my childhood.

Parents who put hands onto their children are most likely those who have experienced violence themselves. Not having healed from that, they pass this behavior down to their children. And if they don’t whoop their children, they abuse them emotionally, psychologically… it will show one way or the other. And it does not stay with the kids, it shows in every relationship they have. Trying to control, to manipulate, to use their partner, spouse, friends, employees, co-workers. It runs like a thread through all walks of life. Tadaaaa - Welcome to the world we all live in. The only way to improve the situation for all is to heal, and to create healthy and safe relationships from the very beginning. Thanks for sharing!

My siblings and I were raised with an occassional whoop also, although we were not naughty kids. On the other hand, there were no whooping involved in my husband's family. Now, my husband and his siblings have better jobs and positions than any kids in my family... BUT that is not the reason why I never whooped my kids. I always thought abusive parents just want to take a quick and easy way to discipline their kids. While other methods involve thinking process and problem solving are probably wasting too much time for them... My husband and I actually enjoy finding ideas of kids disciplinary so we never lay our hands to our kids. My lil bro doesn't get whoopins like we did, he just gets his tablets and stuff taken. But guess what, he's in the 7th grade reading on a twelfth grade level and actually likes to read books so his behavior doesn't change as a result. We're living with a future sociopath

Thank You Steve we need more parents to be parents and not friends you are not their friend you are their parents I’m trying to get my Grandma to understand that. I’m 21 my grandma apparently I don’t know what her deal is but she keeps constantly promoting my younger brother who’s 15 bad behavior and allows him to get away with it and it’s getting real annoying allows him to cut up in school be disruptive in class and cut up and the police had to bring him home one night I was so pissed and got on her and told her you need to stop being his friend and be his grandma. And I been getting on him too about his bad behavior and my grandma always be upset and continues to promote his bad behavior and always be like you weren’t perfect when you were his age. And I’m like yes I wasnt perfect but at the end of the day there were consequences for my actions and I was disciplined for it. I refuse to let my little bro be a statistic in jail especially because we’re Black. I’m getting tired of the sibling favorite yes I’m grown now but you have other grandchildren now give them the discipline you gave me so they too can be successful and stop approving him of doing drugs and being grown when he’s not. And I know Im the older brother if y’all want to be mad at me go ahead I don’t care. And also had I had been doing the things my younger brother was doing she would have no problem disciplining me and I know she can discipline my younger bro she just refuses playing favorites. With that being said stop the sibling favorites and discipline your kids quit promoting we’ll discipline the oldest for wrong doings but the other siblings leave them be enough is enough these kids yes they need friends but they need discipline as well.

Lord have times changed, where a whoopin is considered "Abuse" now. (Depending on how far adults take it.) A whoopin ain't abuse, it's called discipline back in the day. That's why kids are growing up disrespectful because they're not being whooped enough. Parents are hardly (If ever) sparing the rod. I keep thinking back in my day, if I did ANY of what kids are doing now, I'd be lucky if I ever seen the sun again. No phone, no TV, no games, no friends aka being grounded. All that with an ass whoopin coming right behind it. Hell, sometimes even before being grounded.
