As an r7 owner this is the dumbest review. Get a tune, exhaust, and actually ride it the way it was meant to be ridden. Watching you putz around town while trying to compare it to a 600cc supersport was hilarious. The rest of us realized the cp2 wasn’t meant to have the same characteristics as a high revving inline 4 a long time ago. My r7 sounds amazing, makes plenty or torque throughout the rev range, and is way more streetable than a 600. Also it floats the front wheel in first no problem.. idk what you’re on about w that. I’ll take Yamaha reliability over aprilla any day. I love how buried at the end @ 6:05 you start to mention all the reasons someone should love the bike.. you’d like it a lot more if you weren’t trying to get 60mpg out of it.
it wouldn't be a good review of the bike everyone gets as if he gets a tune and exhaust then you can't make a fair comparison as that is not the bike being sold.
@@solidu5strue, but this dude doesn’t have any footage of him putting it through it’s paces and has such a slow takeoff his 0-60 run is comical to the point of looking like he just finished the MSF yesterday. The review is, “yeah doesn’t give me a boner when I hold it wide open in a straight line. Bike BAD. Wish I didn’t have to say that though…”
It's not a slow bike. I never said it was. I pinned the throttle back plenty of times in our ride review a few weeks back, not a lot of torque and ergos aren't helpful. From an experience point of view, it is very average. It feels like a pretend supersport, people need to know it isn't "like" a 600, even though it's pretending to be. At the end of the day, if you like the R7, great. But I have to be honest with my analysis of the bikes, especially when comparing them to other bikes I have ridden in this same class. I don't own the bike, so have no bias involved in the videos. Thanks
The R7 is not meant to “give the 600 class a run for their money” That’s what.. the R6 is for. It’s thousands of dollars cheaper, you’re disappointed in a product you don’t understand what class it’s in.
I have an R7, I feel like it’s a great bike for intermediate riders who want decent power to value while still getting that sport bike feel. I enjoy riding it through the mountains or along the highway. I’d like to try the ninja 500 and ZX4R to see how they compare. Something like a ZX6 is several thousand more in price and a lot more in insurance cost so it might be harder for a lot of riders to get on a 600cc or 1000cc while the R7 gives you the sport bike feel and many riders can still enjoy that amount of power. I’d still like to get mine an exhaust and tune eventually.
I am 49 years old, 5ft 9, 180lb. I have had my 2022 60th Anniversary edition for 1.5 years. I have multiple bikes and owned mulple bikes over more than 30 years and lean towards sportbikes, mostly focussed on and around 750cc. I am what one would consider an experienced rider. I Love my stock R7... I walk into my garage and choose the R7 over my other bikes 90% of the time. I prefer it to a 600, if I am in the mood for pure & agressive supersport ride I might take the GSX750R or 765RS Moto2 for mountain carving instead. If I am going on a long ride over multiple days I will take the Tiger 1050....but I normally just grab the R7... And this is not even counting how much better value it is.
Hey man, i wanted to ask your opinion on the frame? It doesn't use a twin-spar frame commonly used on sportbikes. Does it affect the feel at all? I'm looking at the R7 and the RS660 and im leaning towards the RS660 because of the twin-spar frame
I have a ‘24 model, had a ‘22 before, the clear coat quality is absolutely atrocious on both, scratches if you look at its general direction. otherwise it’s the best city sportbike imo.
Funny how people consider the R7 to not have the performance of the 600s. When in fact on the street, at any instance of opening the throttle,it leaves them for standing. Even on the track it's either as quick or quicker, depending on the layout. Thrashing it down the highway, yeah, it's slower, if you stay flat out long enough, you will eventually pull the r7 back and pass it. Mostly what puts people off is the lack of wow factor at the top of the rev range. But this engine is head and shoulders better than the inline 4s for street riding. Those are just boring 99% of the time and thrilling the moment you redline the bike. And then you die, because you are doing 120mph instead of 50. This bike would have been perfect if it were not for one thing:The R3 That's even better😊
I do think the R7 is the best city sportbike hands down, but I too miss a bit more top end. I’ll definitely trade it in for the R9 with the CP3 engine as soon as it comes out, should be the best of both worlds, has low and high rpm torque plus it’s a bit more oomph at sth like 120hp. should be literally the perfect street sportsbike.
The R7 has so much more torque than the ZX4RR and Ninja 400/500. It will leave them in the dust from a stand still and can power out of corners in a way that both of those bikes cannot. It'll power wheelie in first gear. If you wanna' do felony speeds on the highway forget the 600 and just get a liter bike. The R7 is most at home on twisty mountain roads imo. Also the Kawi you said felt like it had more boost had a slower 0-60 than the R7 in your video.
Yes, the R7 has more torque than the ZX-4rr, and arguably more than the Ninja 4/500, and is the quicker bike. However that's doesn't mean the experience is there. In terms of riding exp, the R7 was very average for me. Have a go on the ZX-4 or ninja 4/500 and you'll know what I mean.
For me it’s more like a modern equivalent to an 250 2T or a 400 sportsbike. Proper racebike looks and ergonomics in a manageable package in terms of weight and power. With all due respect I think you have to ride it much harder than you seem capable of in terms of corner speed and chucking it in on the brakes. Also a 60/70 bhp bike doesn’t need a massive suite of tech. More weight, more to go wrong. The only other bike I’d look at in this genre is the ZX4RR but they managed to cock that up by drowning it in tech and giving it a steel frame. Everything else has handlebars like something my nan would ride as well as been unspeakably ugly (GSX8S, CB650R, Daytona 660).
Very interesting opinion tbh. I am surprised you feel the way you do about it. I have a Yamaha FZ6 Fazer and think I am happy to continue with the 600'ish category. The R7 aesthetic alone got my attention but I don't think it's performance really rivals my bike on initial look. I think my dream bike of the GSXR 750 is my true go to second bike. Thanks for your in depth ride review and opinion.
I've had my '24 R7 for 4 months and did some street racing with a buddy of mine who rides a 2009 R1. We found some twisties, and I held up to him, even passing him from inside a corner. Honestly, it's about the rider. There are some ppl on here who have raced against R7's using 600 or liter bikes and have beat the smaller bike. That is definitely possible, but there are some fast riders on slow bikes that can outperform slow riders on fast bikes. But some ppl are stuck in between engine sizes and top speeds. I've been riding for 6 months aggressive. I never had experience prior to those 6 months. I've watched and practiced from plenty of pro vids. Knowing your bike and your limits can set you apart against someone who doesn't. But I'm not here to compete. Lets enjoy these machines for they were meant to be developed for
I've been surprised by bikes before that have a somewhat disappointing spec sheet, not the case with the R7 unfortunately. Have a go on an R6 or even an RS 660 from Aprilia. Trust me, it's no contest. Purely from an experience point of view anyway. Thanks for the comment 👍
@@GoblinRides Much agree. I just know Yamaha has always delivered great bikes no matter the size of the engine or spec sheet. Most reliable and robust engines in the industry with Kawasaki at the tail. Ride Wild, friend!

It's almost like you don't understand torque as you say you like low down torque, it's called a gearbox put it in 1st rev the titts of it there you go all the torque you need.
Coming a bit late to the party mate 😅 I get what you mean, tho. I would never buy this bike - you have the looks, the committed ergos and then... the experience is lacking. A LOT. Granted, if you just started riding and you coming from, say, a Ninja 400 or even a Duke 390, yeah, you gonna have fun. It can be a stepping stone in your sportbike journey. But for us old moffos revving R6s to the moon in the mid 2000s... yeah, that ain't gonna do it.
They had it at the dealership, was really hoping for more, especially after riding an RS 660. Maybe it is just a generation thing, but it ain't no 600. Loads of people are hating on me for being honest about it, but it is what it is 🤣
I agree with your sentiments. Instead of wasting R&D on the R7, Yamaha should have updated the R6 like Kawi and Honda did with their 'real' Supersports.
The boring ptwin engine and lacking tech is one thing but the cyclops light is unforgivable. I wanted this to be a streetable modern 600 but its far from it.
As others have said it's ruined by not having the inline 4 engine that all the other supersports R6, ZX6R or the CBR600RR have. So it's more like a Ninja 650 but with worse ergo.
They've tried to make a remake or equivalent of the sv650s here really with a much more aggressive position in the full fairing. However any sv650s will leave this in the dust for price and cheapness to maintain. It's no 600cc super sport. For those with more experience an sv1000 would cane this hands down.
I ride with a number sv650's, they are great bikes but under full tap on track or mountain carving they don't keep up. For a slightly higher cost - the R7 is well worth it.
The R7 is competing in the Formula 2 and other Racing Championship Leagues. And is currently competing against many bikes in the sv650 category and the sv650 itself.
True, but if not everyone goes for the hyper-naked thing. Plus on the track this would be much more enjoyable. That is subjective, but then again, it all is ;)
Correct, however the Ninja 650 has more torque to play with in the mid rpms. Its actually more fun then I expected. Review for the 650 will be coming next week 👍
