    David's explanation of children's TV characters usually being anthropomorphic animals is pretty spot on.
    How many people knew what a Tasmanian devil was before they saw one on Looney Toons for example?

      I thought the tasmanian devil was purely fictional, because Taz was the only one I'd ever heard of 😂

    I don't understand why it's difficult to believe that this would be a question in a GCSE exam. This is a standard type of multi-part question, you start with a definition, then some characteristics, and then some examples, and the examples get you 1-2 marks out of 100.

    • @laggy3099
      @laggy3099 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I think Lee was under the impression that "Name three mammals" was the full extent of the question since Katherine had left it at that. A bit silly to think sure but not implausible for someone to think that.

    • @notme222
      @notme222 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The part that I had issue with is the fact that it's open-ended. You want a question to ensure they understand what mammals are. That's fine. But you make it multiple choice. It's inefficient to make a grader read handwriting for this kind of question.

    At my school in the 80's as a punishment for mi-behaviour people were often given "Womble Duty" which consisted of getting plastic bag and a litter picker from the janitor and spending break time picking litter in the school grounds.

    I grew up in Wimbledon and, when I was 4, the BBC did a mock-up on the Common with actors in Womble suits. I sat on Uncle Bulgaria's knee (I know, it wouldn't be allowed now) and I genuinely thought he was/they were real. Believed in them way beyond Santa and the tooth fairy.
    So, sad as it is, I can relate to 15-year-old Katherine 😅

    that she got an "A" in the exam tells you everything you need to know about the state of the education system.

    • @elmacho1336

      Nah, I did mine a few years ago and there are always some easy ones that pretty much everyone can get to inflate the time and spread the population over a range of marks as opposed to clusters of high marks and low marks. As such, making such a mistake does not make someone stupid, nor does it remove any possibility of them receiving an A, not to mention that the grade A star existed at that time meaning she wasn't actually one of the top students of her year. The point I'm trying to make is that believing that wombles existed doesn't discredit the A that she got, nor does it suggest that the education system is flawed in any way.

      It could be actually, just one of the first couple easy ones, it could have been one mark if you got all 3 right

    • @hannahk1306
      @hannahk1306 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's a perfectly reasonable 1 mark question for a GCSE paper.
      When I was in 6th form, I helped some year 11s with their foundation maths prep and one of their practice paper questions was "Measure the length of this line with a ruler.". We'd all agree that it's a fairly simple question, but that's why it was only worth 1 mark.
      It's the same with this question: a relatively easy, 1 mark question to build the students' confidence. If all of the questions were really hard, that would affect performance and not provide an accurate measure of various students' abilities - you'd get a handful of students getting them all right, a few more getting some of them right and the rest get no or very few marks.
