This may be an obscure channel about speedruns of obscure games but the work on the video editing is still at higher standards than what you see in most major channels.
I've been following this guy for months and I was like "what are you talking about he has hundreds of thousands of subscribers" and could NOT believe he's under 10k
I can’t believe your channel isn’t at a million subscribers. I’m subbing, liking, commenting, and praying the algorithm picks your channel up to more people.
The N64 version can be a brutal and dispiriting experience to speedrun. Anyone who can complete a run deserves some respect. Thanks for another great video.
so glad to see another of your wonderfully produced speedrun history videos :3! the 3D level layouts really help explain the routing and glitches, and staying the entire video within a 3D space (which i just realized must’ve always been a level layout) gives a good sense of progression and anticipation :3
always happy to watch your videos, even though i rarely have played games you portray, nor have I ever attempted a speed run challenge on any game ever.
Still blows my mind that I was recommended your channel when you had like 100 subs. Your style is unique and clear and you really are making great content. Keep up the good work! :)
I'm so glad I stumbled upon your channel some months back. Your editing, your cadence, your subject matter, it's all perfect. You're wildly underrated now, but you're going to rise to the top in this community. Looking forward to the inevitable up and coming of your channel!
I am 39 seconds in and you gained a sub, this is such a good idea to how to give a realistic view into speedrunning different games. I’ve always been wanting to just try speedrunning a game in my free time but never wanted to try any of the too mainstream games. Your videos should be able to help me for sure.
Amazing video as always, osukarui. Me and my wife are always excited af when we see a new video. lmao You deserve a far bigger audience, dude. Keep doing you. ✊
Absolutely loved this, especially the part about how nerve-wracking the run can be, regardless of running N64 or PC. I've spent the last 4 years working on and developing the game and I still get a pit in my stomach whenever I clear Treetops and realize I could potentially PB or even just *finish the run*. That being said, I personally don't find that to be a downside or a negative aspect of running the game. If anything, it's a demonstration for how much passion I have for playing this silly 30 year old dinosaur game and while I would like to become more active in doing runs again (because they are legitimately tiring, especially extended play sessions), I don't think that enthusiasm will ever leave. Worst comes to worst I can just keep finding more ways to make Jungle an even worse level than it already is :)
I was so excited to see this game covered. I’ve been needing to play it on N64. First person shooters from the 90s in general are a bit of a blind spot for me.
3:06 I started making games because I fell in love with them. Seeing this makes me go "Oh, I know why this is" and of course the player will take advantage of this; even subconsciously . You have to normalize the directions, but I don't know if the N64 was able to do that. Plenty of games get away with this, and most players don't notice, or care; unless they speedrun.
Very cool seeing names of cool people like WesleyWulf and the_kovic! As a Doom 64 person, it would be cool to see Doom 64 as well. Doom 64 used to be a very obscure game, and for the few people who knew about it just assumed it was a Doom 2 port. These days it is much less obscure and people now know its a new entry in Doom that is a sequel to Doom 2. And like Turok, its PC running community is pretty active, but the N64 running community has mostly stopped running the game. This is mostly due to the aging N64 controllers and the scarcity of steel stick + steel pan combos. But Doom 64 on N64 has some unique techniques not seen on any of the PC versions of Doom: namely neutral reset and lag clipping. It also has an interesting an warp and key bumping too, which can be done on the PC version too. Like Turok, Doom 64 has a speed advantage with strafe running too. But Doom 64 has narrower corridors and getting caught on walls is much easier. Interestingly because of the N64's additional tactics, its always faster than the PC runs, although like Turok, there are some recent PC discoveries I think that haven't been implemented on the N64 version. Although the N64 running community for Doom 64 is quite dormant now, the big players are still around and active either on PC version or other games, such as Peaches, Grav, HeadshotTAS, ZELLLOOO, the_kovic, WesleyWulf, and others. If you ever do an event for Doom 64, I'd be happy to help get them involved and share their history, experiences, and tips!
I've said it before but videos like these are amazing in general, and I'd love to see something like this aired on GDQ to give context to some of those obscure runs!
@@inthefade It isn't that surprising. The N64 is an old console that a vast majority of people simply don't have access to anymore, not to mention that finding specific games can be difficult as well.
Loved the game as a kid. The little route diagrams were great, I still recognised them all. One thing I always found strange about the game is why there are two Chronosceptre pieces on level 7. You pick up the easier one near the end of the video. Always seemed a strange bit of game design that.
Thanks for the good video. What about turok rage wars? I think the grey flickering screens are rather distracting and would limit having them on screen for extended periods, particularly when you're trying to focus the viewers attention on the map or elsewhere. Would be interested to hear your analysis of weird n64 games like hybrid heaven, even if you don't end up running it.
Its a good video, i want to see t2 and t3 if possible. I think you can make it a bit longer with more speed run video, the map is a cool main too but video is better imo.
Are the 3D maps of the levels you use in your videos available somewhere ? They are really well made and could be useful for people like me who could be interested in speedrunning those games !
They are not available per say but you can extract them yourself if you have the time and patience. Here is the way I do it: th-cam.com/video/UtuYP9QgAIk/w-d-xo.html

Man I fucking LOVE your 3D overviews when explaining routes and strats it makes everything so much clearer and nice.
The 3D maps to explain the routes so good
One of the best N64 speedrun related channels, looking forward to watching
we just need more videos but i can understand why they take time to produce
This is my first and I'm excited to watch the rest!

You're in the top 3 best speedrun history / speedrun explained channels fr. These vids are of such a high standard compared to most.
Man all those animations and map paths are soooo incredible. Appreciate the work!
Turok was one of the first ever N64 games Ive ever played. Brings back great memories
literally insane how well this video was made. amazing effort. i particularly liked the map model showing the route with the video side by side
I'm always blown away over the production value of your videos and the amazing visual presentation.
This channel deserve so much more exposure
What am i doing here? Why is that video so well made ?
Because this man is about to blow up

its always a good day when you upload!! the amount of detail you put into those 3D renders are amazing!! can't wait to see more!
You are the Bobby Broccoli of "speedrun explained". Very impressiv. Showing Routes on a map is really cool. So, good work!
Damn your blender skills just get better and better every video. love it! keep it up
Really love the game world being the framing device for all the footage, very fun way to present.
Love the presentation here! The 3D maps were a great idea and really helped with showing exactly what the tricks were accomplishing.
Not now babe, Osukarui just uploaded
Sorry babe, Osukarui speedrun videos stay ON during sex
Always love seeing a video of yours pop up on my feed 😄
Incredible work! Your videos are a joy to watch.

The Jon Boi editing is on point.
The animations are such a fantastic addition to this kind of documentary! It must take so much work to do.
I also want to add that it surprises me that this game isn't more popular for running on original console.

Great editing man

Nice production value. Stuff's insteresting, despite my distaste for the game.
Can you do Turok 2 retrospective

Fastest way to beat Turok: dinosaur Hunter...activate the big cheat.
You up for a Forsaken 64 speedrun?

New osu dropped yea!

Iceland :)
Wow, never knew ZanderGoth was Palestinian. Pretty interesting.
Are cheats allowed in speed runs?
No, generaly they are not allowed, although there are exceptions to that. Glitches and exploits are generaly allowed however, unless stated otherwise.
🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸
Your Indiana Jones-videos are some of the most comf ever. :3c uwu)/
P.S. Do you know OneShortEye?
Thanks! I don't know them personally but I have watched a bunch of their videos and enjoy them a lot.
@@osukarui Ah, that explains some stuff, I think. I recently started watching that channel and it has the general "feel" of this channel too. :3c
