@@mushroomsteve It reminds me of Riverside or Koreatown in Toronto, very desirable places in a city. I absolute adore Victorian houses and those looks beautiful in a company of old trees.
@@Erintii I totally agree. The historic Craftsman style homes here are just gorgeous. I agree, this area in many ways does not feel like the US. I have often thought it felt more like Canada or some parts of Scandinavia. We are fortunate that our beautiful neighborhoods weren't bulldozed like so many historic neighborhoods in the US. They would be irreplaceable today. I like the uniqueness of the houses, the density, and all of the ornamental and food gardens. Not to mention the abundance of food carts, corner stores, music venues, parks and so many other amenities all within walking distance. Our community has done well at avoiding the car-centric development that has plagued so much of the US. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@mushroomsteve It is very sad that historical neighborhoods were destroyed for highways. Those places cannot be re-build easily as it took generations to make them what they were. Each building was slightly different but in the same style. Each got tiny details that made them unique. I live in a small town in Switzerland and even though buildings are cohesive in style, they are not cookie cutters. When I saw the typical suburb in 2005, in Vista CA it looked weird and surreal to me. Yes, two or three identical houses sure but 20? And no trees near the road, no side walks. My first reaction was to run away and it stayed that way. I agree car oriented development is bad and I am happy to see American people realize that. Cars are great but car dependence is not. Also, the US was build on the railway network, railway network was a backbone of a country before greed of automotive industry destroyed it. I was shocked to learn that LA once had the best street car network in the world! When I saw historical photos of Houston or other cities and compared what happened I was shocked.
That area's a bit farther away from where I live, so I'd have to drive there, but I will keep that area in mind for future videos. My late mother in law lived in that area. Thanks for the suggestion.
