      @@MRIMan That's because you don't have to do anything, there's no major responsibility, or pushing drugs, running codes or any real actual patient care.
      You're overtrained picture takers. And you can't argue that because of anyone ask you down to the simplest explanation what it is you do for a living you take images AKA pictures for a DR/Radiologist to look at and decipher. You have no authority of any kind to carry out a medical procedure other than pushing contrast and or working under the direct supervision of a Radiologist.
      If you mess up an image and get it wrong there's really no consequence you just get to do it over where is a nurse messes up she could loser license or worse kill a patient.
      There's a reason why you can still do OJT as an X-ray tech. In fact the hospital in the town I used to live in had a lady who had never been to college or School of any kind and she was a senior X-ray tech at that hospital. Her entire education had been OJT.
      I just found it comical when I hear people make statements about nurses from the X-ray tech side of the house. The amount of knowledge and responsibility that a nurse carries today dwarfs that of the X-ray tech by ten fold.
      Nurses are in such shortage right now that states are passing legislation that a LPN can open their own practice.
      You can literally take a three-ring binder and use human silhouette diagrams with an X placed on where you want the image taken in list what that image is below the diagram show a person how to use the machinery and they can produce images with little to no training. To push contrast you can teach an entire class in a 2-4 hour block of instruction on how to do that along with drawing blood.
      Just to put that into perspective the United States Army teaches advanced lifesaving skills in other words every soldier in the US Army gets this training on how to treat and stabilize the soldier who is wounded during combat whether it's by gunshot explosion shrapnel etc... That entire course of instruction is 40 hours.

    I want to be a diagnostic radiologist, and being a rad tech pays well to get me through school, but more importantly to get me in that area, and know what to look for and how it works. So later when I'm in med school I have a foundation that can help me through school and into the field after residency. I'll be exposed to imaging and the first step really right before the radiologist takes a look.

    Another denomination of Radiologic Technology is Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy, or ESWL. That is a position nobody really talks about, mostly due to its extreme rarity. There are maybe a few thousand Lithotripters in the whole country. I was fortunate and very lucky to land a position right out of school. It is a fantastic opportunity and hospital staff treat you with the upmost respect. I regret to admit that normal X-ray technologists are bullied quite often by doctors and other staff members. I would definitely recommend expanding into one of the more advanced practices of the field.

    • @EOtekk
      @EOtekk 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Collimating on the spine is generally something you shouldn't do. Go a few inches past the skin margins, but not much more than that. Sometimes the patient can appear to be straight, but the shape and curvature of the spine is deceiving. It's better to use a large FOV than to risk a second exposure. Remember, less collimation is always better than 2 exposures.
