      Confirmed, can't find it anywhere online. Wondering if the connector itself is proprietary, or is it a certain type with a specific name. If the connector is a certain type, perhaps there's a DIY solution to adapt or make a cable.

    Battery work 101. During installation you should *always* disconnect the negative terminal and leave it disconnected until all other work involving the battery is done. In the video, if your screwdriver happened to contact a metal frame component while loosening (or reconnecting) the positive battery terminal, you would create a direct, unfused, short across the battery terminals. Best case you'd generate a lot of sparks. Most likely you damage the battery and perhaps the bike's electrical system.

    I can tell you from personal experience on the ‘18 and the ‘21 that what Chris is recommending will work so much better and be so much easier than regular methods. Also it’s so light and easy to carry I can virtually always have it on board. The price is not too much when i consider the ease of use and carry.
    Of course if you are someone who has never left the switch on…..
    I ordered Chris’ solution immediately after watching his video. Thank you once again, Chris!🙏👍😎

    Chris, you might check the quick connect to make sure it works. The have been a bunch of them with problems, including myself. To test it, plug the jump starter into the bikes quick connect. You should see a green light on the jump battery. If no green light, she no workie. Will leave you without any way to jump your dead battery, leaving you stranded.

    Sold! I just had a battery issue after rolling down my driveway where I normally start my bike. Didn't realize the battery was dead. That's a different story. Had to enlist a neighbor and we struggled to get the bike pushed up my driveway. Replaced the battery and all is good now (use your battery replacement video to walk me thru that job). But this would have been so much easier. Love the way it doubles as a connector for the Battery Tender.

    This is just what I’ve been looking for. It seems like I looked for one a few years ago and couldn’t find one with the pig tail for the battery. With out the pig tail I would have to take off the saddle bags to get the sissy bar off to remove the seat and then the vcm to access the battery. Then put it all back together once the bike starts. By then the bike would probably over heat being air cooled. Not to mention the screws I’d probably lose on the side of the road. Thanks for the video.

  • @bertrosschaert1749
    @bertrosschaert1749 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You don’t need to remove the SAE connector. The bulge on the small adaptor cable is just a fuse, normally there should already be a fuse in the current SAE cable. That way you can still use a trickle charger with SAE connector when storing the bike during winter. Just a quick tip from an electrician ;)

    I was on the Scosche website and someone asked "Will the PBJ700 damage smaller engines". The answer from Scosche was "The Powerbank is backwards compatible and can jump an engine as low as 4 cylinders and as high as 10 cylinders". I'm concerned the 700 would provide to much power to start my BMW R1200GSA. Not a Honda guy so I assume you have 4 cylinders.

    My 2018 Goldwing battery died in front of a Best Buy. I walked into the Best Buy bought the scosche battery jumper. It only had 50% charge, but it started my bike right up. I did notice it did not have a USB-C charge port on it, so I ended up sticking it in the van. The van has AC outlets I can charge it with. I do have another battery jumper not as good inside the Gold Wing, but I can charge it with a 12 V power supply.

  • @eyesonly4451

    Good find on the Scosche. My added hint is to use a generous dab of Ox-Gard (at Lowe's electrical aisle) on all your battery terminal connectors. Ox-Gard is a conductive grease that will prevent oxidation and especially issues where aluminum-brass connectors come in contact. This grease also makes the whole connector stack more resistant to stray moisture.

    The only problem with using the proprietary Scosche connector on the battery terminals and then using the SAE adapter for a trickle charger is that you no longer have an SAE connector on your motorcycle for use with electric vests or other items that use SAE connectors. And leaving the SAE adapter cable on the motorcycle is not an option as there are now too many and too long of wires to hide behind the plastic on my motorcycle. Why not just have an SAE connector cable that plugs into the charger pack and then onto the SAE connectors used for the trickle charger?

    Looks way more expensive than a set of jump leads. Especially when you'd expect a battery to last for around 4 years give or take. Batteries generally do let you know when they're on the way out although, I agree, not always. One had me once and I just jumped it off a friendly motorist. The elephant in the room Chris is that the product is a battery and the key with any battery is that performance and reliability is maintained by using "cycling" it. My garage is full of cordless power tools that are testament to this. I'd say that if you are going to carry a spare battery might as well carry a much cheaper spare bike battery and wire in via a smart relay to keep it charged. The product is an expensive, and will over time become an unreliable, solution to a very simple and very infrequent problem solved by jumping.

    NO NO NO NO. A thousand times NO.
