    The reason why im interetsed in modding a cherry g80 3000 is because the selection of full size vintage style keyboard chassis is so bad. There is only the TKL NCR 80 which looks like a phenomenal platform for building vintage style keyboards on but the cherry looks beautiful with its big top bezel. Now if some lad out there makes a full-size keyboard chassis with a pencil tray and big bezels like the Dell AT101 or IBM Model M, I will be a happy camper and may build an MX keyboard!

    Clicky gang approved! ^^
    Think the only thing to improve is to put a very thin layer of pe foam (like 0.5mm or something) under the tape mod, It actually deepens the sound of the box whites' bottom out and click but apart from that, it's an amazing build! Really appreciate the research as well cuz most ppl would just change it to linears and tactile switches where there are good clicky switches out there ^^'
    Keep up the good work there fam!~

      I'll have to try that out - seems ideal for modding the sound, while keeping some hollowness
      Funnily enough, I ran into your videos while finding out about Box clickies for the first time, so I appreciate your work, and kind words

      @@TheBuddingEngineer Oh aye, I appreciate watching my vids! ^^
      But yea, that's what I did anyways on my gaming keyboards and my NCR-80 build, it pretty much mixes the sound of a vintage keyboard + the modern custom one.

    That's a Master Piece. The works are not for the feeble minded. Great technical knowledge.

    Is it possible to mod the Cherry G80-3000 Goldkey soft contact to a wireless keyboard? (my is using a PS/2 connector)

    I was wondering how I'd be able to do a sleeper build like this because of the jumper wires. Thanks for posting your process as now I feel confident in doing one of my own! (I thought I was retired from this hobby but I guess not :p)

  • @jesuszamora6949
    @jesuszamora6949 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a stupid ass question - Instead of opening the switches to put the jumpers in them, couldn't you have just put a wire on the underside to bridge the points? Seems like it'd be less work.

  • @Gamakeeb
    @Gamakeeb ปีที่แล้ว

    What a content! Where did you get the keeb? I couldn't find any vintage keebs at a local flea market in my city

    • @TheBuddingEngineer
      @TheBuddingEngineer  ปีที่แล้ว

      I got this one brand-new, so not exactly vintage as they're still being made
      Online might be your best bet, just make sure to research what you're looking at

    Doing almost the same build right now! Using the Kailh Box Jades though. Currently trying to figure out why the space key doesn’t work… Can’t find which solder joint isn’t working… The switch is not the problem, i checked
    Any ideas? 🥺

    • @dyingdeath6269
      @dyingdeath6269 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok it actually was a solder joint but I couldn’t get it to work so i just bridged it with a small cable like a mad man lol
      Thanks for the Video, would’ve never done something like this otherwise.

    • @TheBuddingEngineer
      @TheBuddingEngineer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad you sussed it out, I would have pointed to the jumpers or joints for the actual switch, anyway
      And I'm glad the video helped you out

    Is it dangerous if u attempt to make a keyboard?

    • @TheBuddingEngineer
      @TheBuddingEngineer  ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't need soldering skills to build one - get a hot-swappable board and it becomes super easy (and safe!)

    So you invested all this effort to make an unique vintage sounding keyboard to sound like a generic custom keyboard?

    • @gearsgamer7115
      @gearsgamer7115 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nah dude. The sound before wasn't unique it was rattley and crappy. Still sounds unique due to the roomy case.

    • @gearsgamer7115

      @admin he did not replace them with "clones" do you not hear the difference. They are not clones per day as they use a completely different click mechanism so those sound is way better.
