It's such a beautiful story. My mother was blind at birth and raised 4 daughters. She would tell us stories when she lived on a farm in Iowa and how her uncle taught her how to drive a tractor, of course, with him next to her. Sadly, my mother passed away 17 years ago on my birthday.
Hellen Keller every time I hear this name I see a true REMARKABLE inspiration, a girl with tremendous Courage who beat all odds to make an OUTSTANDING mark in her life and who became one of the most famous people in history, the deaf and Blind Girl who thanks to Miss Annie Sullivan's AMAZING dedication, AMAZING courage, and AMAZING patience towards Hellen Keller who shined the light into her dark Very sad world, the AMAZING courage and AMAZING patience of Hellen's mother and father who never gave up on her too. This interview is fabulous and shows that in life nothing is impossible, anyone can do anything if they put their mind to it, Hellen Keller is proof of that. Hellen Keller and Annie Sullivan will continue to be both pioneers and will remain an inspiration to us all.
I only learned of this extraordinary woman just days ago. I did a spell of teaching someone to read. He was completely illiterate. It took the best part of a week for him to understand that letters stood for sounds. And individual sounds could be combined into words. The moment he grasped it, It really was a light bulb moment for him and I was very pleased with his progress. The gift of reading, writing and understanding is a precious one. I would strongly advise anyone who knows someone with communication problems to sit down with them and really persevere. People are intelligent, they will eventually grasp what you're teaching them. If you yourself can't do the teaching, find someone who can. It's something the learner will be forever grateful for.
Goddess bless these two American women, Annie Sullivan & Helen Keller for their courage, determination to do their best in spite of so many obstacles. Because of them, the world learned that there are ways to help those with physical handicaps to live full, productive lives that can inspire others.💖💖💖 Her story is the reason I became an Education Assistant and Special Education Teacher!
My grandmother, my mother's mother, lost her hearing not long after she had my aunt, 18 months after my mother was born, due to Scarlett fever. I believe she was in her mid 20's at that time. 1947. She went many years learning sign language but she didn't like it so she taught herself how to read lips. Then when the first hearingade came out she was fitted with something life changing. She wore that till her passing in 1999. She was born in 1928.
I have the great honor of playing Capt Keller in the play Miracle Worker next weekend ." (My second play ever.) My Dad was blind so this play is especially meaningful to me.
Helen who was very clever and naughty hid the KEY in the wardrobe the day when Ann arrived to the Keller's home and locked her like she had locked her mother a few months before..VERY CLEVER CHILD !! Lol.. Her house was very lovely .What great looking furniture and bedroom..It was very cosy and charming but i think that Captain keller was wealthy because he owned a cotton plantation and the family had a personal cook and servants..The kellers were privileged in a way compared to rural poor families who also had a child severely handicaped like Helen.Helen could never have travelled like she did if her parents had been poor and visited so many countries and probably would have stayed In Alabama or the Perkins institute for the blind.

She expressed her impression as follows: “When I was a child, my mother told me that Mr. Hanawa should be my role model. To visit this place and touch his statue was the most significant event during this trip to Japan. The worn desk and the statue facing down earned more respect of him. ” Hokiichi became blind when he was 5 years old. One summer night, a wife of a Samurai, read a book for Hokiichi. She found that he had tied up his hands together. Asked why he did so, Hokiichi replied, “Whenever I move my hand to get mosquitoes away, I tend to miss words of your reading. So as not to do that, I did this.”. He always studied with an attitude like this.
Unfortunately helen keller i admire caught a high fever as an infant who left her blind and deaf like many many other children in those times who caught scarlet fever or meningitis..that's life..Life was miserable in those times and there was no cure except warm bathes maybe and that's all..poor children but they gave the world a message ,that life can be lived despite handicaps and is worth be lived. They learnt to communicate with their fingers,to read write..and live a great life.God had a plan for them..and for HELEn his plan was ann Sullivan.

It is, although the movie about Helen Keller REALLY oversimplifies things. Deaf and blind people learn language all the time, and it helps that Helen had exposure to language before she went deaf blind, and had a few signs she used with her family before Anne Sullivan came around.

She had a sister named Mildred however it's hard to find any info on her. The brother I believe was Mr. Keller's from a previous marriage.
