    Holy cow! The off road capability is impressive! Makes me even more excited for my new Ram 2500 to arrive.

      Even without the rear locker, Ram's do very well off-road. Thanks for watching and commenting! Good luck with your new truck!

    Man this is great. The anti-spin was a feature I wanted but due to the shortages I couldn’t find it in a truck with the other features I wanted. Been looking into aftermarket lockers because I tend to put myself in situations I shouldn’t, but this gives me a whole lot more confidence in my truck.

      Thanks for watching and commenting! I wish ram offered the power wagon rear differential across the lineup, it is a Torsen limited slip with an e-locker.

    I have a 2019 Ram 2500 4x4 6.4 hemi crew cab 4x4 - 8 foot bed . Best interior of any truck on the market. Have the sunroof H/K stereo- lighting everywhere are LED. Heated front and rear seats - everything is awesome. No consideration for rear seat room no one rides in the back - retired just me and wife.

      Sounds like a great truck! I haven't had much opportunity to drive the 6.4 Hemi but I've heard good things.

      @@EngineAdventures for what its worth, I got into a situation on a nasty rocky road in arizona towing with my 2018 ram 2500 megacab. i took the wrong road (I remembered taking a ranger down it but its too rough for a truck without a trailer) taking the family camping and had my rzr, tent and all the gear loaded up on the trailer. Maybe towing 8K, anyway I was going down this rocky rocky road, the shale type that slide around and are flat and it got tighter and rougher and finally on a steep grade, maybe 6-8% i decided i am not going father. i had to back the trailer up the shale over some boudlers in a spot the dozer used to push rocks into for the switchback and I was going down hill so backing up hill turning the trailing with terrible ground. i previously owned an extended cab gmc 2500, that thing was a goat with its G locker and shorter wheel base, i never got close to getting stuck there but nothing this nasty with a trailer. 4 high wouldnt let me back up at all, just making heat in the tranny so i locked into 4 low and starting back up, the truck impressed me. i was thinking I am going to have to off load my trailer for thirty minutes, back it up, drop it, turn around then reconnect and hook back up and it was getting dark and my wife was pissed! luckily the dodge backed right up like a sure footed goat, reminding me of my duramax actually and got us turned around safely. I have a trip to wyoming for some goat hunting next month, going to see how it does in the mud. the only thing about my truck thats terrible offroad is the wheelbase since the megacab makes it just a few inches shy of the long beds, but the ride is extremely good for a 3/4 ton truck. It smokes my gmc in comfort on the highway and streets, i actually run the tires about 35 psi higher on this truck because the ride is so good.

  • @jackmeoff549

    Would rams limited slip in the rear have made that much difference? I’ve had it in my 15 and 18 and almost can’t tell it even works.

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ram uses a low ratio Torsen limited slip. Something like 2:1. So If one wheel is slipping it can only transfer 2x the torque of the wheel without traction to the one with traction. Meaning if one wheel is in the air or on really slick terrain it cant transfer enough torque to the other side. However, this is my favorite style of limited slip as it doesn't wear like a clutch would. Eaton makes the True Trac limited slip with a 3:1 ratio that does better. Also this style of limited slip does really well with brake based power transfer systems, where the vehicle applies the brake to the spinning wheel(s) to transfer power side to side.

  • @midlifemike4916

    Whats your payload with the air ride? My 21 cummins is only #2175 its the Bighorn 3.73. if you want to pull a 5th wheel you are very limited. My 21 has an off road screen

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't own the truck just had it for about a week for a media review. I might have a picture of the door tags buried somewhere. Yes the Cummins weighs a lot and the air ride system reduces payload even more. When asked about 3/4 ton trucks I tell people that the Ram 2500 is the only true 3/4 ton truck. The frame and suspension systems are different from the 1-ton trucks, whereas GM and Ford just have stiffer suspension of the same design between their 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks. If the Ram 2500 doesn't have the payload you need and you still want a Ram, then get the 3500. All of the big 3 offer a wide range of payloads and sure you can get an F-250 with a much higher payload than a Ram 2500, but the F-250 will ride like the Ram 3500. There's always a trade off.

    Differential locks only in power wagon this is a feature I wanted and will have to add locking diffs in the future.

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ram is the only one of the big 3 that doesn't offer a locking rear diff from the factory, except in the Power Wagon as you mentioned. As you can see in this video though, unless you're spending a significant amount of time offroad, then the brake system will work quite well. Thanks for watching!

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Rod Smith It does work on both the front and the rear, but independently of each other. This isn't a problem because of the lack of a center differential in 4wd. Watch our video on the Chevy 6.6 gas on this same hill and you see a lot more side to side movement because the rear and center diffs are locked but there is no control on the front, so even with 3 wheels spinning the one front wheel doesn't help climb at all. Other vehicles have an open center diff and have a brake limited slip that works independently front and rear. This means if one axle loses traction on both wheels then it is essentially 2wd.

    • @EngineAdventures

      I guess real diesels have mechanical fuel injection. You know, the ones that once strated you could pull the battery out and they would keep running? Emissions restrictions certainly hurt performance and durability, but having clean air to breathe is also important I guess.
