I hope you enjoy my second vlog! A little love letter to my home town, Bristol.
Yaaay! Outing to Brizzle, what a treat… not been there in over decade now, thank you Harriet❤ and nearly spluttered my coffee when you got into the glorious Cass shop lol! Absolutely amazing… how wonderful… made my heart skip❤😂 loved the postcard surprise lol! Well said Matisse! I’ve got three brush washer thingies (didn’t know that’s what they’re called!) my brushes dry every night in one, love them! Oh my goodness! This video is overwhelming! Pick ‘n Mix😂
Very impressed by your self-control purchasing haha! Talking of nostalgia…spot the letterbox😂 LOVED watching the painting, so lovely thank you xx
I didn't realise your were a Bristolian! I live in Somerset but work in Bristol (from Aus) but have never really explored the city too much outside my work precinct and St Nics markets. Thank you for the sign post to Cass Arts - will point my acrylic friends in their direction too!!
I love your channel. You have inspired me so much. I have bought 2 of your books so far, and an getting into miniature work, I just bought some tiny brushes to help, and your tutorials are so fun and easy to follow. You also have a soothing voice, unlike some TH-camrs who need the sound turned down. I always thought I was no good at Drawing or painting, but I'm now 64 and I dont care about what others think. Im having fun and wow it makes time fly past. I sit down for half an hour, and 3 hours later, i remember I need a drink or something. Cass Art is also my favourite shop. I would love to be locked in overnight to have a really good look round.
I love Bristol I live in a BS postcode, I am 71 and started to dabble in painting a few year ago, School was brutal with art in the 60's unless you had a natural talent that was it , you were rubbish, my painting are what they are and I haven't bought a birthday or Christmas card in years. I have got to say I make a mean patchwork quilt, loved this vlog
That is awesome!
I'm loving the new format, it feels much more personal. I'm not loving the music though - especially the 'Ba-Ba'Baaa' music! I'm partially deaf in one ear and find it really difficult to hear you over the music and find the music a bit loud so I can't really hear you well. I especially loved this one. I lived in Bristol for 15 years and worked in what was '51 Park Street' restaurant (between what is now Nandos and Ganesha) and would often spend my break between shifts sitting on Brandon hill with a book. I love Cass Art and buy from them often online, such good value, I love my Cadmium Yellow and Scarlet Lake bags too! I think a trip back to Bristol is needed now, better start saving my pocket money!
Hi Julia, thanks for your feedback, the sound was a bit difficult on the busy road but we'll do our best with it going forward. There is also the opton to watch with closed captions too
That little tour was so fun! I loved seeing where you grew up, where you met your dad in the park, the museum and the fabulous art shop! Wonderful! I loved your little ink and wash painting, too! I feel like I’ve been on a little trip! Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Harriet, love the tour of Bristol, the art shop and love the music!!!! That's some feel good music
It really is! Ant picks the music well!
What a lovely vlog Harriet thank you for sharing 😊
You’re welcome 😊
I really enjoyed this video even though it made me so envious that you have access to such a well equipped and beautiful art supply store. There is nothing better than actually holding and touching something you want to buy. Perhaps it is a good thing that I am not near such a treasure trove or I would be in the poor house! Thanks for sharing your outing and view of Bristol and Cass’ Art Store!
Thank you very much!
Thanks for the great Vlog. The kids in Bristol are sharp as a pistol, when they do the Bristol Stomp- running through my head-( revealing my age as I recall a 1961 Hit ! ). What a lovely city. 'love the postcards !
Such a lovely film. I visited Cass Art in Brighton on a day out, lovely store and friendly, helpful staff. I bought some Daniel Smith paints too! See you next month ❤
Wonderful! Amazing stuff Jacki!
Thank you for an outstanding video! You are a true motivator.
I appreciate that!
I loved this nostalgic walk through my old stomping ground! I used to spend all my time around that area and had lots of exhibitions many years ago! The RWA building felt like my second home.😉 We used to buy our materials from Bristol Fine Art just up around the corner from Park Street. Cast Arts looks great, I’d love to go back and visit it again one day. x
Thanks for taking us on your tour Harriet. I loved it. You encourage us all to give it a go. Thank you. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
You are so welcome!
Well that was such FUN!!! What an awesome store! I wish I lived nearby. 😊 Great sketch! You’ve really inspired me to do more of it. I need a little travel set! Those water cups were so great! Thanks for taking us along!!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful city, the buildings, and shops, have a wonderful day.
Ah thank you so much for watching, I really hope this kind of content is a nice compliment to the rest of our videos.
Loving these little trips, and love the shop (a few things may have slipped into my basket when i accidentally clicked the link to their site🤫 don't tell my other half lol) I am one of those people who was told my art was rubbish when at school, but i am slowly coming to realise that as long as i am enjoying myself that's all that matters. Thank you for sharing your art with us.
Oh Cazzie, I'm so glad that in spite of having teachers doing it all wrong with you at school - noone should EVER be told their art is rubbish - that you are back at it!
Ooh, and I nearly forgot to say...I ordered a set of your fine tipped brushes last week. Sooo excited, I can't wait for them to arrive!!! xx
I so enjoyed your video, Harriet, and am watching it now for the second time. A little trip down memory lane for me! I lived and worked in Bristol for nine years and so enjoyed seeing Park Street and the museum again, as well as Brandon Hill. Such a shame about the shop closures but a sign of the times. I hadn’t heard of Cass Art. Loved your sketch/painting.🙂
Thank you for this video, and introducing us to the Cass Art Shop. You've shown a positive side to the Bristol you know so well. And just like that, you've given everyone the glimpse of art being for everyone. Such good news for those who've always said "I can draw", but they haven't realized they can develop it further. I remember signs in Dagenham where I grew up, "For Health Sake, Swim!", and maybe we can say, "For health sake, draw, paint, colour, design....." 🌷🌿 Haha, just saying! 😘
I’m ready to pack my bags and head to Bristol! I simply love it! Thank you for sharing more about yourself and your amazing life and talent. ❤
Bristol is special!
I‘ll be 75 tomorrow, born in Southmead hospital Bristol, & have always done various crafting projects, now am re- learning watercolour & my first love art. So glad Park street has a great art shop! I use Schmincke paints( as I now live in Germany ) but, the shop looks really good. George‘s was once there too. My ideal shopping spree! And, I recently visited a super art store here, like a kid in a sweet shop! Thanks for letting me watch the old place!P.S I also own the Staedtler pens, like the click of the holder! And, the old Bristol highlights. Thanks
I lived in Bristol for a few months in 2015, it’s a lovely city for artists. Thanks for the tour of the shop!
It really is!
How fabulous! I literally went to my local art store the other day and picked up both Moonglow and Buff Titanium because of you Harriett! I'm lucky enough to have quite a good art shop only 10 minutes drive from me here in Sydney, Australia.
Thank you, I feel I have had a lovely day out with you. I do enjoy your videos and your excellent teaching. Also, I love your books. I look forward to more trips out with you.
Ah thanks so much, I'm really glad you enjoyed it
I watch most of your videos, and I have to say that your spontaneous ink and wash painting was the BEST I've ever seen you do. LOVED it. Please do more.
Loved this❤️. What a lovely city. Thanks for taking us along. Enjoyed the drawing/painting very much. No art stores anywhere around here (NE Vermont U.S.) and I and I do miss walking through a store, being able to pick things up and lick at them.
That's an amazing typo, to 'lick' at them!
@@deWintonPaperCo LOL, that should have been “look”, but yes that was an amazing typo. I imagine that I would be asked to leave with that type of behavior !
cool sketch and painting Harriet!
Thanks Christie, I'm so glad I can share these moments with you.
Such a lovely vlog! Thanks for taking us along!
What a beautiful vlog. I’ve been influenced! Just made a date with my hubby to take me to Bristol for a day out to visit Cas Art and the art gallery. I thoroughly enjoyed watching that. You need your own tv programme ❤
Oh Deborah that is amazing! You wont be disappointed and there is so much great inspiration around there and even more lovely shops!
I love watching you get out of the studio. The garden videos and this one at the store is very inspiring for me. Thanks
I'm so glad!
As a small child in the 60's then a teen in the 70's I had wonderful experiences with art. In my primary school in Nottingham (4) I remember being able to splash about with paint and I "created" a weeping crabapple tree in blossom by dobbing pink and white mixed colours on to a large piece of paper with different sized brushes. Apparently it went to Russia in an exhibition for UK education. From there it was downhill, (yes I peaked at 4) but I've always always had good teachers and at High School in NZ it was one of my elective subjects. It turns out I am pretty bad, but nobody ever told me, so I still enjoy it.
Wow I'm so glad you had such a positive start though!
Thank you for the lovely walk about in Bristol. I thoroughly enjoyed visiting Cass Arts. The store looks so artfully inviting. I visited their online shop boo boo they do not deliver internationally. Maybe some day. Then to the park and your beautiful painting. Thank you it was all fantastic.....Have an enjoyable weekend. 👍 💗 👍
Oh that’s a shame they’re not international yet! Glad you enjoyed the vlog
I loved Debbie's story about the lady in her 60s just getting back into art. What a beautiful shop! My collection of Schmincke paints has doubled since our adventure in Portugal. I have space in my pallet for another dozen, but I'm gonna wait and treat myself for my birthday next month.
Yes Harriet! Great vlog. Really enjoyed it and will give it a go.
What a lovely shop! I would love to spend some time there. Thanks for the tour of the shop and of Bristol. Love all the old buildings, so beautiful.
Glad you enjoyed it
Watching from Australia…thank you so much.
Thanks for watching!
I loved seeing inside Cass Art shop as I shop online as too far away from me. Great drawing and painting, loving these painting on the go/in the now vlogs xx
Oh dear, well that was emotional for me! Dear Bristol 💖 And what a fab art shop! Lovely sketch too!
I miss it too x
What a fun adventure 🎨💕 Thank you Harriet !! I’ve never had the opportunity to visit the UK or any where in Europe, but I feel like I’ve walked along with
you today ☺️
Maybe one day!
What a stunning en plein air painting! However, the entire video was fabulous. For me to go to a brink and mortar art shop, I have to go Memphis (2.5 hours away) or Nashville (3 hours away). It is a rare trip. I so love going in with you. Quite frankly, I enjoyed the entire trip. Thanks. For the tour.
This is really fun! What a lovely video to engage people in out and about art walk! Thank you! Looking forward to some more of these.
Thank you so much! I'll definitely get out and about more
What a wonderful art shop! Thank you for taking us along with you!
Our pleasure!
Lovely vlog! The shop is just amazing! The painting too :)
lovely video Harriet I often buy from Cass Art, they are a great company. Lovely ink and wash and your lunch? looked delicious😋Thank you for sharing with us x
Love cassart in Bristol! Always try to visit that shop whenever we visit 😊
Really enjoyed this vlog. Thank you. A lovely impromptu painting❤
Glad you enjoyed it
Such a lovely video. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love this video! I’m new to watercolour painting so I really appreciate the encouragement to keep painting.
Really enjoyed your video, thank you for sharing. I want to come visit your country one day. I loved seeing all the old buildings and beautiful landscape. I LOVE urban sketching. Can't wait to see more of you vlogging style (hopefully).
I love when you vlog Harriet. This was so much fun. Thank you!!!!
I'm so glad!
What a wonderful video! Thank you for your encouraging words!
You are so welcome!
Lovely ink & wash. A fun vlog
I never seem to have too many watercolor brushes or paper. I truly enjoyed the tour and encouragement! Many thanks sweet lady. 🥰
Nice video. Bristol looks gorgeous. I bought my copy of New Botanical Painting in a Cass Art shop and i absolutely love it. It's a great accompaniment to the videos. Thank you, Harriet.
Wonderful!
Loved the painting and the vlog, thank you for sharing Harriet 😊
Thanks so much 😊
What a Lovely Store. ❤ I have started my Art Journey late in life. (Better late then never ) Thank you for the beautiful things you said about creating our own art, and that it is “wonderful”. Thank you for such a fun and inspiring video.
Wonderful!
Loved your vlog! You can’t beat a lovely art suppliers! I used to feel a bit intimidated going into art shops. There is so much to see and inspire. Looking forward to your next vlog. 😊
Thanks Julie, I'm excited to find more art shops
Woohoo! Thank you for taking us along on this adventure! ❤
More to come!
Yes!! Art is for everyone!!
Absolutely Amy!!
Beautiful scenery! I loved the painting ❤
Thank you! Cheers!
Thanks Harriet, I really enjoyed coming along on your little shopping trip 😂 there’s nothing better than having a good mooch around an art shop is there?! Your painting and sketch was beautiful as well ❤
Thanks Sarah!
This video is an inspiration for me 🥰👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you for sharing with all of us ❤
Wow! That was absolutely delightful! I was one of those with not very encouraging art teachers or head mistress back in the 60’s … your video has really inspired me to try sitting out in a park somewhere and trying to draw what I see and then add watercolour.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again that if it wasn’t for lovely people like you I would not have tried things like watercolour or pen and ink and watercolour wash. Thank you so much for those wonderfully encouraging words at the beginning that no matter what you do, whether a notch on a piece of wood or ripping up fabric, you are an artist
Thank you again for taking us on this lovely tour of Bristol and Cass Art Store
I enjoyed the walk with you and the shopping and sketch. Always wonder who my artist friend is. Caroline in usa
You inspired me to buy a plein air paint set, just the basic mixing colours! I aim to spend time out of the house just practicing in my sketch book x
I love that palette ❤
Hi, thank you for showing me Cass art and you painting 🖼️,I’m also from Bristol, and have been to Cass art plenty off times, and there very helpful in there. I liked your drawing that’s something I love to do too. But watercolours are not my thing,I like acrylic and soft pastels. But mostly I love to draw. 😊
Love it. Had a trip planned to the Kingston branch today. Not as big but loads of art stuff and staff so helpful ❤❤
I love this I am in the area soon might see if I can fit in a visit. But I am going to Bath and will visit my own favourite Art Shop in Green Street. I used to buy my Art materials there when I was at school in the 1960s, yes it has been there all these years. You ought to visit.
I love a field trip!
Yeah!
Haha it was like Moonglow had a Harriet magnet! Loved this vlog. Admire your shopping restraint, I’m definitely not to be trusted in an art shop - honestly the kids’ inheritance is on the line with every visit:). Paper is the greater of my supplies weaknesses, although I never produce anything as lovely as the ink and wash you casually chatted through (as though nothing utterly extraordinary was happening).
I really enjoyed this. I love to buy my art supplies in a real shop but I must say, we don’t have anything this large and impressive in Western Australia….possibly a good thing, I’d end up bankrupt! Thank you Harriet 😊
Ah Nancy, it's so easy to spend lots in a shop like this!
Love it!
I'm so jealous! I have been wanting that Cass Art travel set ever since I first saw it. Unfortunately, Cass Art does not ship to US. I keep hoping a set will show up on eBay. Fingers crossed. Enjoy your haul.
Love these new videos, really inspiring! Unfortunately I live nowhere near one of their stores but definitely going to have a browse online tonight 🤭
Thankyou for posting this! I am hoping to visit Bristol soon so will follow in your footsteps!
Have fun!
Now I want to visit Bristol :)
I love Cass Art so much, I love bristol and spent way too much money in that shop, but that hill is the WORST😆😆
Hahaha! In my youth I used to cycle up and down it, not so sure now!
Art supply stores are hell on my wallet! My weekness are flowery postcards, pens ...
I love your vlogs!
Thanks Olivia! We love creating them
Your clip-on water well is so cool! Also from Cass Art?
I bought it from a small art supplies store in Chagford but I believe you can get them online too.
O did your umbrella yesterday😊
I could have met you for coffee!
Oh Jane! We could have painted together!
@@deWintonPaperCo next time?
I’d spend a fortune in that shop lol 😂
When do you record this? I am wondering since you have a jacket on!
It was a few weeks ago, the weather has changed a lot!
I love your videos Harriet❤ What kit do you use to record your videos? Tripod, microphone etc?
Hi, Ant here! We record the VLOGs almost entirely with a DJI Osmo hand held video camera.
The tutorials are filmed with two Fuji XT3s. One mounted on a rig above the painting and one on a tripod to the right hand side. Audio is recorded on multiple devices for redundancy and we use some lights to prevent shadows/give as even a light to the image as possible.
@@deWintonPaperCo Thank you Ant. I’m a flower grower and very unsure of how to film what I do whilst out in the garden and creating flower arrangements. I shall investigate the DJI Osmo. 💐
Does Cass art ship to the USA? I want to order that travel set. Thanks
Sadly, Cass Art does not ship internationally. 😢 I live in 🇩🇪 and had to ask a friend to get it. It is made by Daler Rowney, perhaps you can find it under that name where you live? Check Jackson's Art supplies, in the UK. Sometimes they have it, and they ship internationally.
They also turn up second hand but unused on eBay sometimes, it’s worth putting an alert on. I’ve got one that way. They are very useful.
I've been twice this month

Thanks!
I really struggled with the sound in this one, music over talking is always a n issue, but this was particularly bad. Other than that, lovely video. I have that paint set and use it all the time. I replaced the paint colours I didn’t like with lumps chopped off DS watercolour sticks and squished in as well as some from tubes.
Noted!
