What's your biggest fear when it comes to painting and creating? Let me know if you enjoyed this! We love to bring you all sorts of different content so let us know!
Loved it. I like getting to know artists I admire. So I enjoy you sharing pieces of yourself 🙂 I think pro artists have more fear than someone like me. Hobby artist. I just paint and enjoy. I may be hesitant to ruin something and may research a bit first if I don’t know how to get the effect I want. But sometimes I just blaze forward and end up with perspective that doesn’t make sense. I don’t mind. It’s too fun 😄
I allow myself failures. I learn from every painting. Not painting will stunt your growth. My fear is wasting supplies. I rarely throw anything away for that reason. I've washed watercolor off the paper, coated it with clear gesso to do a pastel or regular gesso for another medium. To use the paper for another work takes the sting out of a failure. Your painting is lovely. Thanks for sharing.
I have an A3 size picture of a turtle that I want to paint for my daughter but have hesitated to start. Scared to ruin the picture but seeing you just doing a large painting makes me a bit more confident to make a start. Your painting looks marvelous.
It is absolutely beautiful!!! We are our own worst critics because we have an image in our head and it is so hard to get it out on paper and we almost always feel our work falls short. You are an amazing artist!
I related so well your honesty and the process . I am in my 80’s and only started painting maybe 10 years ago but I am passionate about it. I watched your utube a few years ago and when I revisited it a few weeks ago ,and now loved your style . Had I changed or had you Anyway thank you for your sharing today Mary Ann😅
Thank you so much for sharing your journey, Mary Ann! It's inspiring to see how your passion for painting continues to grow. Change is a natural part of the creative process, and it sounds like both you and I have evolved!
Thank you so much for sharing this Harriet. It is such a gift you offer to share something so personal. I am sixty seven, and would have loved to be an artist. I was good at art at school but my parents decided emigrate to Australia and return to Uk and then return to Australia. Because of the moves I lost kudos with teachers and education. My parents were very Victorian in some ways as it didn’t matter about my education because I would marry. I have taken time out over the years and continue that education but finances and my children have taken priority. I found TH-cam and was encouraged from sites like yours have helped me. The. Covid happened and basically following you painting and Let’s make Art pulled me through, did you know Art brings down your blood pressure. I even sold some of my paintings. My biggest supporter, my husband, died in June and I am having trouble picking up that brush again, you see he isn’t here to encourage and say well that one is great. Perhaps watching you bravery I will make the next step.
🤗 My condolences. Artists are sensitive and don't usually just plow through feelings. Take your time. Just a little paint here and there, maybe a doodle a day, and you'll get back to it. Creating is what gets me through.
Thank you for sharing. I'm also 67 and have health issues and my husband is battling cancer. I started trying to paint about a year ago. I watched you tube and was learning, but when I found Harriett everyday I watch her and enjoy seeing her paint, but fear trying more now than when I started. Forgive me ! I should have started with I'm so sorry for the loss of your husband. I can't imagine, but it's creeping up on us as well. I hope you have family and friends to support you. 😊
I truly appreciate your kind words and for sharing your story. It means so much to me that my content has been a source of support for you. Keep nurturing your passion for art; it’s a beautiful way to honor your husband’s memory.
You, Ant and Crumble are Heaven sent. Keep doing your videos they continually inspire with your incredibly beautifully creations and also your videos and voice and music are actually very healing and relaxing ❤️ xxx
Harriet! This is a triumph! Not only is it lovely, and it was so much fun to watch the process, we are all SO PROUD of you for being brave and sharing the process with us. Thank you! It’s simply beautiful. 😍
Not only is it wonderful to watch you conquer this biggie, but this biggie is wonderful and you are a marvel. Thanks for going out on a limb and filming too. You are an inspiration 😊❤
This was absolutely amazing and beautiful. I have been watching you paint for along time , and you have taught me so much with all your talent and skills . You are my go to teacher when I want to watercolor something beautiful. You’re absolutely correct on sometimes I paint something that I don’t like and tear it up , yet another person thinks it’s beautiful…..This was so relaxing to watch . Just you painting and beautiful music …..thank you , Harriett
I'm just starting watercolor. As a leftie, it's nice to see someone who paints using the left hand. It's hard to try to follow instructions sometimes and I have to try to figure out how to do it left handed. I have some big canvases sitting in a corner. Maybe now I will have some bravery to give them a shot!
Harriet, I watched from the beginning to the end. I was captivated by the process. Thanks for sharing your fears and showing us the process. You are inspiring and authentic. It was so relaxing watching you achieve a truly wonderful result!❤❤❤❤❤
This was well worth the journey. Such a beautiful painting ❤ Listening to your art journey rings true for me as well. I’ve never had any formal training but had some talent. After a bad back injury, many surgeries and twenty years of being mostly bed bound I had all but given up on my dream of painting. Last Christmas my husband bought me a giant easel. I was flabbergasted. What am I supposed to do with that! So after months of looking at this thing in my small kitchen I decided I would try to find a way to paint. It’s been two months now. I paint while laying in bed, all of my supplies on tv trays next to the bed. The easel is used to tape my work to so I can show my husband what I’ve painted. I paint nearly every day now and I am so in love with it. You and other artists have taught me so much. Thank you for sharing your wonderful talent with us ❤
This is beautiful in so many ways: the painting itself, the process, you sharing some of your own art journey ... Crumble, of course!! I think it was the video of going to the art supply shop, but I wrote down something you said: "It's art, it's yours and it's wonderful. Creativity takes courage". I started with watercolor about 7 months ago at age 68. I was teased as a child about my art and decided that I was not artistically creative. I made my living as a software developer/programmer which I now know IS creative as in creative thinking. And I have been a hobby photographer/videographer for years. My fear as I started with watercolor was that I would never be "good". As time goes on I realize that my idea of "good" has shifted as well as understanding that the process is a huge part of the joy for me. I did PleinAirpril and part of that commitment was to post on Instagram which was sometimes mortifying (to me) but ultimately good for me as I lost my fear of getting to some predefined idea of "good" art. All of your tutorials and content have been very instrumental in my growing joy in making art. Thank you, thank you - especially for this and I look forward to more content of all sorts!
I'm so grateful to hear that my tutorials have helped you find joy in your art journey! Your story is truly inspiring, and I can't wait to share more content that fuels your creativity even further!
Harriet, this so so beautiful! I have always enjoyed your videos, but this year you do seem to have a looser style which is absolutely stunning! Thank you for sharing your painting journey with us.
Oh my, Harriet, watching you creating, hearing your voice ~ well, I found myself captivated yet quietly soothed as each layer bloomed ~ anticipating your next brushstroke, stilled by your delicate dance across the paper. Thank you so very much for including all of us on this breathtaking journey! You truly have the most generous heart to inspire, encourage, teach and challenge! I appreciate your efforts to expand our horizons, to give us a glimpse of the process, and to help us imagine our own potential. Wow!
Thank you so much for your kind words! It means a lot to know that my process resonates with you. I’m excited to continue sharing this journey together!
Yes! I do let my fears hold be back. and then I feel driven to my table from sleep sometimes. I listen most of the time when I am called to paint. They don't always turn out the way I'd like them, but I still get experience. I love that part. Thank you for this video.
10 and a half minutes in…..you’re making me so weepy. thank you for modeling how to confront fear. I was aware I was going to face fear when I started painting, but I never could have imagined how much. Despite this, what joy! What fulness! To see things, translate them with paint and paper in my own awkward and child-like manner and be ridiculously proud of capturing a flower, a tree, a moment in time.
So beautiful and captivating! I am lost in the bounty of gorgeous flowers and the colorful row houses remind me of my home as well - Newfoundland, Canada. I am so inspired by your talent and joy, and i am learning so much from you Harriet. Your lovely voice and welcoming personality are perfection. Thank you for sharing!!
I definitely fear the blank page. Very brave of you to step outside your creative comfort zone, and to film it for us! Thank you, lots of lessons to be learned. I love your painting, particularly the lovely expressive flowers x
Dear Harriet, I find this painting beautiful. You are telling us your story and it’s like you are talking to me. The fear to start to paint and what is going to happen, the possible mistakes. You are an amazing artist! I am in love with your work. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful video ❤
I'm off on holiday next week and am taking a few art supplies with me to do some plein air 'stuff'. It has to be a small kit as it will be going in my camera bag - a couple of small sketchbooks, trusty mechanical pencil and half a dozen others. A few fineliners - black, dark and light grey and sepia. A dozen watercolour pencils and 3 water brushes. Watercolour pencils are a new thing - I use watercolours mainly - but are the easy and portable option! Eeek!
I have watched your opening and introduction over and over. It is the pep talk I needed. I started a picture yesterday. Thank you for being an encourager. I have hope again.
Thank you Harriet for this . Your painting is beautiful. Love the pastel colours in the buildings and the stronger colours for the flowers. Even your lovely dog, Crumble came to give his seal of approval.❤ But most of all I thank you for honesty about your fears of a large empty piece of blank paper. I have a large piece of paper stuck to a board for weeks and I said yeah I'll do it today but never did. And it's looking at me even now like its saying " I'm going to sprout legs and run if you dont use me soon." But hearing you talking about your fears of ruining large empty blank spaces has absolutely changed the way I look at it now. And I'm going to try and do something with it asap. And put it up on my easel and try it. Like you this easel has never been used. And it's time me and that easel both got together for some long overdue exercise. 😅😅😅. Thank you so much Harriet. I had no idea other artists had the same fears. It's by mistakes we learn. But I always had this idea that everything has to be perfect first time round. And God forbid if I do it wrong. And of course I have myself tied in knots then and not do anything at all or maybe chicken out and go for something much smaller that I can handle in 20 mins and then I'm disgusted with myself for sticking myself in a huge RUT. WHY didn't I do something with the big one? And then it gets late and I wont start it cos I know I wont have time to finish it. And that we'd would drive me up.the wall. If my shadow could kill me it would! 😂😂😂 Well a long threatening comes at last. I know now I'm not the only one with this problem. Thank God it's so good to hear you being so honest and open about your fears. It helps. By the way you have nothing to worry about. Your painting is stunning. Look forward to your other tutorials. My love to you both and big hugs to Crumble. He's gorgeous. God bless you all. Susan . ❤❤❤❤
I love your painting. It's not like all the others I have watched and painted. I have not painted in at least a month. The longer I went without painting, I fear I have lost whatever skill I may have had. I am my worst critic. I can't even find something I want to paint. More fear but I miss it so much.
Gorgeous! ❤ Love all the colors the vibrancy of the flowers against the pale background. Thank you for showing us that anyone and everyone has fears ❤ Things are so expensive that it’s hard not to feel like I may possibly waste a piece of watercolor paper or canvas. So I tend to paint small 5 x 7 usually with my watercolors and only went larger a couple of times in the six years I’ve been painting as a hobby. Several years ago I purchased some very large canvases with the intent of applying acrylic paint to them. I did a few 16 x 20” of a single bloom and also with a single bird and that was really pushing me out of my comfort zone. I still have 5 even larger canvases I haven’t touched in my closet. Perhaps now I will.
I totally get it! Those large canvases can be like the gym membership you never use-full of potential but just sitting there! Time to give them a workout with some vibrant colors!
This was not only a process beautiful to watch but the finished painting is gorgeous! The detail of those beautiful flowers is incredible. I've only been painting about a year and can imagine trying anything this large. Thank you sharing .😊❤
Oh, how absolutely beautiful and exciting! Thank you for sharing your experience. I am hoping to paint some landscape/cabin pictures for my son for Christmas. This tutorial helps me be brave!
What a beautiful result! I started out painting with acrylics and have the big easel collecting dust in my storage shed since I’ve started dabbling in watercolors. A couple of days ago as I was struggling with pain in my hand and shoulders whenever I painted, presumably from painting in a hunched position much of the time (whilst sitting at my kitchen table) I started scheming at how I could use my easel and paint watercolors that way…… and then up popped this lovely video!! Thank you for battling your fears and for letting me watch you work things out!
Another thought about larger paintings is the larger the painting the further away a viewer will stand. A smaller painting invites a closer look. Tiny errors disappear with distance. For me that's a game changer. Now I get to escape the large building and enjoy your beautiful flowers.🥰 I love paintings that message me 😅.
This is very lovely. Very brave of you to do this in front of a camera! I love urban sketching and drawing buildings, but I also love painting florals. Combining the two has never occurred to me before! I shall definitely give this type of composition a try, although on a much smaller scale! I’m not brave or good enough 😂. Thanks for this great video Harriet.
Harriet! Thank you for sharing! Really gives me the encouragement I need to go large. I was so inspired by the Sequoia this spring and have done a few smaller scale paintings, but really those trees are crying for BIG PAPER! super helpful to join in with someone else taking a risk.
KUDOS to you Ms Harriet! I’m properly and genuinely impressed by not only your gorgeous painting, but by your bravery to do this AND film every bit of it for us, your followers. Frankly it’s a beautiful piece. Just recently I graduated to 9x12” paper and it was scary, but I’m beginning to enjoy it. Thank you for your fun and amazing tutorials.
Brilliant, beautifully illustrated, love the whole watercolor Harriet. I'm proud of you! Small, medium or large spaces your work and utube/videos/ channel 🎨 are well worth following. I own 3 of your books and all your brushes❤
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing your journey into something new. I am also intimidated by getting something down on my best paper and will fill pages in my "practice" journal first.
This was wonderful to watch. Very relaxing and enjoyable. I loved your process. It has given me a little inspiration to tackle a 24" x 30" canvas I have sitting on my easel. (I like acrylic and watercolor). But I also have some "precious" papers that I have decided need to come out and play....Thank you for sharing.
This was lovely to watch! So often when we finally face the things that have been so foreboding they really aren’t as bad as we’ve worked them up to be- this is true for me at least. I love your painting, it will always be a special one to you I’ll bet. The paintings that were my “firsts” at anything new hold so much memory and lessons for me.
That is absolutely wonderful! A beautiful painting and watching the process was … well I’m speechless! Well done! And Crumble certainly deserves a bit of play now 🥰
You are amazing! The painting is beautiful. When you started on the flowers and the paint went quickly down the page I was thinking " Oh No" but you brought it all together so wonderfully. I've been enjoying your adventures around your garden, at the castle, and where you lived and grew up. The architecture is so beautiful and so dull in the US. There is so much to see and paint. My fear is enormous as I'm a beginner only trying for about a year.😊
Thank you so much for your kind words! It's amazing how art can evolve over time. Keep pushing through your fears; every artist starts somewhere, and your journey is just beginning!
We’ll done! Thanks for sharing your journey and vulnerability. As a musician/ song writer I can relate. Sometimes there’s clarity before I start the process, but usually the end result is completely different from the vision. I’m just learning watercolour and still have a lot of your fears to overcome
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! It's so true that the creative process can lead us in unexpected directions. Keep pushing through those fears; every stroke is a step toward growth!
I was totally hooked. Absolutely stunning piece. You’ve given me the confidence to do more art, simply by knowing even a ‘proper’ artist sometimes struggles to make a start or try something different. THANK YOU!
Thank you so much for sharing your vulnerability with us! You are an incredible artist and teacher but it made me like you even more by talking about what scares you even as a professional! I think the painting is incredible and I cannot wait to see what else is in store for the big block of Arches!
Loved this Harriet I love the background softest colours amd the foreground vibrant colour pallet they complement eachother you should be proud of this artwork❤
Oh Harriet, this painting is marvelous. You are an amazing artist and are a wonderful encourager and teacher. Am so glad I joined your Patreon earlier this week ❤️.
Thank you. What a wonderful video and very helpful to me. Congratulations on overcoming this obstacle and thanks for helping to restore my confidence. We can be our own worst enemies (and critics) and it really helps to have someone , especially someone who does such fabulous work as you do, point out that we all have obstacles and fears that we can confront and overcome. I love how your painting turned out. It’s beautiful. I’ve never worked on anything that large either. The biggest I’ve done is 9” x 12” and even that is quite daunting to me. I’m working on fall leaves right now and was feeling pretty discouraged and frustrated. Your video reminded me to enjoy the process as well as the challenge of trying something new. That’s one of the reasons I started in watercolor. And now I’m ready to give it another go. 😊🍁🍂
Oh that was great to watch. Continue on! I have found that with every new art endeavor I chose to learn I know and remind myself as I’m slogging through it that this part is necessary to get to the place you want to be. I give myself permission to try, mess up and keep trying as that’s what it takes. I learned to watercolor through you and now my journey is learning to master soft solder with soldering iron on stones for jewelry. Who knows what I will go to next. Always going back around to my already learned lessons and it’s fun to see how I have progressed. Thanks for sharing you are brave and amazing!
I truly appreciate your kind words! It means a lot to hear that my videos have helped you on your creative journey. Your determination to keep trying and learning is truly inspiring-keep shining!
Thank you for sharing this beautiful composition! What I like best about it is that you’re not trying to make a “photographic image” but an interpretation from your talent🩷
This came out so beautifully! I started out on 10 x 14 inch paper, and the more I used it, the more I hated it! It was just too big! Of course, it also wasn't the greatest paper, and it buckled TERRIBLY! Maybe one day I'll invest in an Arches block that size and see what difference it makes. Meanwhile... Harriet's tiny detail brushes: 😱😱😱😱 😉😁
This is great! And I for one can totally relate having fear of the blank page. Thank you for sharing your bravery and encouragement for us mere mortals 😂 sending warm greetings your way 😊
Gorgeous!! I have learned so much from you and I appreciate your sensibilities. I just started less than a year ago and have tackled many of your pieces. I am happy to say I have gotten lots of positive feedback. So thank you so much and I will continue to learn.
Very brave of you to show your process like this! It helps me to know that even a fantastically talented artist like you can be "afraid" of tackling a big piece of paper. I guess we should all tell ourselves to "just do it" and stop worrying about the outcome. You did a beautiful painting, no surprise!
What's your biggest fear when it comes to painting and creating? Let me know if you enjoyed this! We love to bring you all sorts of different content so let us know!
I have a hard time painting loosely and thinking that my shapes aren't 'right', particulary on nice paper :)
Loved it. I like getting to know artists I admire. So I enjoy you sharing pieces of yourself 🙂

The picture is absolutely gorgeous.
Thank you so much!
Your talent knows no bounds Harriet! This was a JOY to watch and your voice is so comforting and relaxing!
Wow, thank you!
It is absolutely beautiful!!! We are our own worst critics because we have an image in our head and it is so hard to get it out on paper and we almost always feel our work falls short. You are an amazing artist!
Thank you so much Nancy xx
That was an inspiration to me to get into something new and scary!

Thanks for sharing your art supply lineup! I love hearing about what others bring along for their creative journeys. Wishing you an inspiring holiday!
I have watched your opening and introduction over and over. It is the pep talk I needed. I started a picture yesterday. Thank you for being an encourager. I have hope again.
You got this!
Thank you for showing us that anyone and everyone has fears ❤
Things are so expensive that it’s hard not to feel like I may possibly waste a piece of watercolor paper or canvas.
❤ thank you for the encouragement. Have a wonderful weekend.
Same to you!
This was not only a process beautiful to watch but the finished painting is gorgeous! The detail of those beautiful flowers is incredible. I've only been painting about a year and can imagine trying anything this large. Thank you sharing .😊❤
Thank you so much 😊
Oh, how absolutely beautiful and exciting!
Your painting is absolutely beautiful! I love the splash of bright florals with the soft background of the buildings. You are amazing Harriet!!
Thank you so much 😀
Beautiful Harriet, love your painting, your voice and your books ❤😊
It's absolutely stunning, Harriet!
Harriet! Thank you for sharing! Really gives me the encouragement I need to go large. I was so inspired by the Sequoia this spring and have done a few smaller scale paintings, but really those trees are crying for BIG PAPER! super helpful to join in with someone else taking a risk.
This was sheer enjoyment for me. So natural! Thank you for sharing this! I loved the music too. It went so perfectly with grand with the video.
It’s gorgeous!!! Well done, overcoming your “fear” of large scale painting. Thanks for sharing ❤
You are so welcome!
You can do it!
Oh my! What a beautiful video and finished painting! I love the looser style you painted on this.
Brilliant, beautifully illustrated, love the whole watercolor Harriet. I'm proud of you! Small, medium or large spaces your work and utube/videos/ channel 🎨 are well worth following. I own 3 of your books and all your brushes❤
Thank you very much!
You painted this piece with so much confidence, even though you said you were afraid, it didn’t show and the result is wonderful !
thanks for the courageous share
BRAVO!!! Beyond fear an absolutely awesome, perfectly beautiful painting!! Thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you! Cheers!
Wow Harriet a beautiful painting, well done for going big you smashed it XXX
Good 😊 for You overcoming your fears! You are such a Amazing Artist 🧑🎨
Thank you so much 😀
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing your journey into something new. I am also intimidated by getting something down on my best paper and will fill pages in my "practice" journal first.
Adding those flowers made the buidings really come to life. I think the brighter colors in the flowers drew out the color in the buildings.
Harriet, I enjoyed this immensely, you're so talented and quite humble.i admire your honesty
Dear Harriet, how brave and stunning! Thanks for sharing!❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
Bravo!
Beautiful work Harriet, the colors are so vibrant
Thank you for sharing your watercolour journey and encouraging and inspiring us all ..always a joy to listen and watch you paint😊
Thank you so much!
Beautiful, and very inspiring. Thank you very much. I spend hours watching and rarely put paint or pen to paper. Tomorrow will be a DO day!.
You can do it!
Well done! And Crumble certainly deserves a bit of play now 🥰
Thank you very much!
You are so inspiring, brave and talented. In one word..... AWESOME!
Thank you so much 😀
Job well done!! Stunning! Congratulations!
So beautiful and so many good lessons here. I too like to paint small and detailed and only recently started larger pieces. Love your work! 🥰
Thank you so much for this video! You have inspired me to conquer the fears I have had about painting BIG! 😃
Thank you, Harriet 🙏🌈✨❤️
You are so welcome
Love it ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ bravissima.
Lovely!
Great to watch! I know that if I'm able to let go of tension and paint in a relaxed way my drawing or painting is so much better!
You can do it!
Its so lovely to see that beautiful work and know it shows you conquered a fear.
I loved how you painted those windows 🪟
Thank you so much 😀
This was so lovely and so, so inspiring. Thank you for talking us through your process.
I was totally hooked. Absolutely stunning piece. You’ve given me the confidence to do more art, simply by knowing even a ‘proper’ artist sometimes struggles to make a start or try something different. THANK YOU!
You can do it!
Its beautiful Harriet well done Ist of many 😊
Thank you so much for sharing your vulnerability with us!
Wow 🤩!! So fascinating to watch this and see your process…& I’d never know you were afraid of painting large-it’s gorgeous!!
My pleasure 😊
Oh Harriet, this painting is marvelous. You are an amazing artist and are a wonderful encourager and teacher. Am so glad I joined your Patreon earlier this week ❤️.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm thrilled to hear that you're enjoying the painting and finding value in my Patreon community!
How beautiful!!! You did it!! And thank you for letting us watch ❤️
My pleasure 😊
Wow just amazing.
Harriet's tiny detail brushes: 😱😱😱😱
😉😁
Lovely!!!!!!
So beautiful Harriet. You are so talented and thank you for sharing !
You are so welcome!
❤❤❤ just gorgeous!!!!!!!
This is great! And I for one can totally relate having fear of the blank page. Thank you for sharing your bravery and encouragement for us mere mortals 😂 sending warm greetings your way 😊
That definitely deserves a place on your wall. 😊
WOW! That is beautiful and such an inspiration in the process. Thank you for giving of yourself and time. ❤
Thank you so much!
Gorgeous!! I have learned so much from you and I appreciate your sensibilities. I just started less than a year ago and have tackled many of your pieces. I am happy to say I have gotten lots of positive feedback. So thank you so much and I will continue to learn.
Wonderful!
Stunning!!!
Congratulations Harriet, a beautiful job well done.
Thank you so much!
You are so talented. Thank you for sharing!
Very brave of you to show your process like this! It helps me to know that even a fantastically talented artist like you can be "afraid" of tackling a big piece of paper. I guess we should all tell ourselves to "just do it" and stop worrying about the outcome. You did a beautiful painting, no surprise!
