Horse trek through the burning countryside of Luang Prabang | Life in Laos | Chris Fritze

Beginning of May (2024) I did a trek with our horses through the burning countryside of Luang Prabang. Since I'm too tall and too heavy for our Hmong horses, I had to hike while our team of the Namkhan Horses Stables had the pleasure to enjoy this small outdoor adventure out of the saddles on the back of the horses.

Weißt Du zufällig etwas über die Geschichte der Pferde im "Vietnamkrieg" in Laos? Ich könnte mir vorstellen,dass das auch Einfluss auf die Population hatte?

Zur Geschichte der Pferde im Vietnamkrieg weiß ich nichts konkret. Möglicherweise hatte das auch einen Einfluss auf die Population.
Was ich jedoch aus mehreren Gesprächen mit Einheimischen und Expats weiß ist, dass es hier vor noch etwa 20-30 Jahren weitaus mehr Pferde gab. Sie wurden wohl viel im Straßenbau und im Ausbau des Elektrizitätsnetzes in den bergigen und schwer zugänglichen Gegenden eingesetzt. Mit dem vermehrten Einsatz von Maschinen über die Zeit, hatten Pferde dann jedoch einfach keinen großen Nutzen für die Gesellschaft mehr.

Genau. Zu heiß. Darauf hatte er keine Lust und ist lieber zu Hause geblieben.
