To me, the most amazing thing of all, is that someone figured out that counting out the letters of any card in the deck will always move the 3rd card to the 5th position in a stack of nine. Like, what the hell was that person working on when they made that connection?
It really is not that difficult if you have a brain greater than a gnats. Think about it, the card is 3rd position. Any card you pick has more than 2 letters in the name so it always ends up 7th position. Then you spell of which has 2 letters so it ends up in 5th position. Then the suit always has at least 5 letters so it ends up in 5th position. You can literally do it with the card upturned and see it work. It's not brain surgery.
@@KingofEverything1I don’t think you get what the comment is saying. Yes it is basic math to figure it out and we can all do it as you showed. But who the hell is gonna think to try it is what the person is trying to say. It’s a weird technique to come across.
I’ve done this trick a couple times now, and I have a personalization I use. When touching the cards, I touch the middle card first. If the spectator chooses to remove their selection, I flip it over, showing that they chose their selection again. If they choose the other card, I continue as normal. It’s always mind boggling for them when it is their choice that reveals the card
Thats smart because when he was running the trick the first time I noticed he didn't touch the middle card and I figured thats where it would be. But by eliminating the suspicion on the first try it fools them better. I think many people would have expected the middle one anyway.
That's a very good idea. Thank you. I could be missing something in your explanation, but it seems you would have to touch the spectator's card (along with any random card) as you're walking them thru the elimination process. So....you touch both cards, then ask them to make their selection. If they choose their card, you reveal their card and praise their skill. But, if they choose the other card, you explain that choice gets eliminated. Otherwise, if they choose their own card, having understood already that their selection would be eliminated, and you flip the chosen card over for the reveal, it goes against the spectator's expectation of the elimination process.
@yoboverthetop although I don't like this idea, I think you could not explain the elimination at all, just touch 2 cards and say "choose one." if its their card, flip it over and end the trick abruptly (which is why I dont like it), and if they choose the other card, say "okay we'll eliminate that one" and continue as normal.
Here's how that 3rd to 5th transformation works. The spectator card starts in the third position of a 9-card deck: - - X - - - - - - Let's follow it. All card values have at least three letters, so after the first move the spectator card must be third from bottom: - - - - - - X - - "of" will simply move two cards from the top to the bottom, making the spectator card fifth from bottom: - - - - X - - f o Since there are 9 cards that means it's also the 5th position from the top. This symmetry is crucial for the next step. The final move only works because all suit names have at least 5 letters. This move takes the top 5, 6, or 8 top cards and makes them the bottom cards in reverse order. Since at least 5 cards get reversed, the 5th from top card will always become the 5th card from the bottom. In other words, the spectator card doesn't move. - - - - X - - - - This symmetry and coincidence of English word lengths is why the trick requires 9 cards and not some other number.
As a note, I worked 3 variances into this that I feel make it much cleaner and neater and still easy to perform. 1) When they pic thier card, I have them select a pile, then I pick up that pile and ask them to pic one of the three I am holding. Then when they are done memorizing it, I ask them to place their card onto the top of one of remaining 2 piles, then smoothly place the remaining 2 cards I am still holding on top of that pile, then that all on top of last. This is the same ordering as before, but this throws them off the better as asking it to be on bottom is suspicious. 2) When placing down cards onto 3x3 grid, I will change up the order I place them, like I may make the 5th card end up in a corner then fill it in, but memorise which ended up #5. This is a little more effort, but keeps thier card out of obvious middle. 3) My first 2 cards I pick to eliminate one will be their selection (#5) and another card. If they chose their own card, I just reveal it then as an extra neat effect, otherwise I continue as normal and never include their card in my pics again. Regardless, this is a great beginner's trick and works great!
Yes, so many variations on the reveal, you could also have them make the first choice and if they choose their card you can discard the wrong one, then have them turn over the other one they chose. It will appear that the one they randomly chose was their own card.
Also changing the pattern itself works as long as you know where the selected card is when placed, like 3 cards of triangles, or 3 cards of stars. I do something similar with a 4 by 4, 16 total cards trick similar to this, but they choose their card every time & jaws just drop. I'm going to practice this one. My only concern is how the spelling always lands the 5 fifth down, unless the remaining cards plopped down have something to do with it. Ty
Dang, dude! That was amazing! The moment the trick ended and you revealed the last "selection," I knew this was gonna become one of my all-time favorite tricks. I also really appreciate how you show the trick and then explain it, WITHOUT so much annoying intro and self-promotion that a lot of other guys do. New to the channel, but I'm fully sold! Keep up the good work! :)
I like your channel, cause it's pretty straightforward. You show clear instructions on your card tricks, and it's very easy to follow. May you have many more subscribers in the near future!
one thing I love about this channel is that most of the tricks that you show on this channel are impromptu and can be done anytime anywhere anyplace!!!
It is great that it is a no set up card trick so that you don't have to know any false cuts or false shuffles. And you're vids are always right to the point and you're not rambling on about nothing.
I've seen this trick performed dozens of times on TH-cam as the Lie Detector, but I was always dissatisfied with its ending reveal. Your ending is much better! That force where you and the spectator take turns eliminating cards adds the extra layer of tension this trick needed.
Thank you. As a super beginner doing this for fun with no pro aspirations. The tricks where I don't have to do things with my pinky or the double lift or currently at my speed. Until months from now I become more coordinated
Pretty cool lil trick, took a few short minutes to learn, mainly just the part where the selection ends up in the middle of the 9, the rest was self explanatory from there going to see how the kids like this one later when they get home from school :P
For real there is this TH-camr named Chris Ramsay and he gets to the point. He jist goes on and on about random stuff. I'm definitely subbing and liking.
knew this trick but forgot the setup and was glad to find it. The way I was taught it ended with spelling out M-A-G-I-C with the "C" being their card and if you had 2 spectators you asked one to give a suit and the other the number which works great too. You also can ask them if they want to change their minds before going forward. Really effective. I like the random card choice from the remaining deck too. subscribed.
I absolutely love your videos and learned so much from them! My family and friends loved the tricks I learned from this channel, so thank you so much for teaching them to us :)

I have small hands, so palming/concealing cards or even pinky cuts and so forth don’t work well for me. These types of tricks are great. I’m learning this one today.
Heart Diamond Spade ClubS (make sure if you've got club, add a s in it) Touch the card first, then let spectator touch it. P.S - this is for my own reference
The only thing I'd change, is when putting the cards out in the end, mix them up a little. I didn't know HOW the card was in the middle, but it was very obvious that it was, and that you knew it was. I just mix up the order I put them down, and keep an eye on the fifth card. Less obvious that way
Awesome card trick I’m just starting magic and I’ve been showing people this and there blown away by it. Also I got monkey in the middle love that people are what the how these two tricks alone are giving me confidence to try other tricks I also have threes a crowd again very good.
Learned a variation of this as a kid. Using 21 cards. You lay out three columns of 7(cards face up), placing the cards down from left to right in each column. Have them pick a card but just point to which row. Then gather rows placing theirs in the middle of the others. Do this 3 times. Then you lay out four "flowers" of five face down( the fifth card makes the center of the flower). You have one card left over. Show to audience saying this isn"t your card. Ask them to point to two of the flowers. Their card is the eleventh one. So you never remove that one. Then as they get down to the flower with the card in it ask them to point at two "petals" always removing cards that leave theirs on the table. Just asking them to point to this or that leaves you the option to take what cards leaves theirs face down on table. It makes it seem the were in control....when you reveal the last card and it's theirs.
I like this one, gonna make it look super obvious that its in the middle but sleight it to a different position and let them eliminate the middle at some point

Nice trick. I would love to see more of no sleight of hand tricks
Hardik Borana I agree I’m a bit rusty with slight of hand
Same
Jacob Griego he said NO slight of hand tricks
Me too
no Jacob Griego said that because he wanted something different then sleight of hand tricks because he was rusty!

If they choose the other card, I continue as normal. It’s always mind boggling for them when it is their choice that reveals the card
That’s really clever. I personally don’t make it the middle card and make it the bottom right because otherwise it’s a bit too obvious imo.
Never thought about that. "Hey wait a second, I can't get rid of this because I believe this one is your card." They'd never see it coming. Genius.
Thats smart because when he was running the trick the first time I noticed he didn't touch the middle card and I figured thats where it would be. But by eliminating the suspicion on the first try it fools them better. I think many people would have expected the middle one anyway.

Geez, I’m going to assume that you are smart and good at maths
Shame that this doesn’t work in my native language. I can easily spell out in English, but I feel like it gets odd for the spectactor.
