That isn't an instigator AT ALL
@drew3851 You clearly are an expert on nhl officials and how they call the game. The 2 minutes for unsportsmanlike still adds a powerplay for the rangers. Calling an unsportsmanlike is just like when a referee calls a slashing penalty on a hook, calling a holding penalty on a trip, calling a hook on a trip it doesnt matter the actual call (the nhl doesnt penalize refs for what they actually call the penalty on the ice) not all referees like calling instigator to the same degree. Even if the player that throws the hit and drops the gloves first that doesnt mean another player didnt instigate the fight. When you throw a big hit often times the plager knows he going to be challenged and they are ready to fight (cuylle in this case)
There was zero reason to fight. He challenged Cuylle to a fight for delivering a clean body check. Call it whatever you want there was absolutely no reason to pick a fight in that situation which is why he got the extra 2. It's one thing if a fight breaks out due to an injury or dirty play, but that was just a clean, hard hit that caused no damage. He absolutely deserves the extra two for being a little bitch about it.
The extra minutes for johnson was completely absurd and he had every right to be angry. And for those saying it was a "clean" hit, watch it again. He clearly leaves his feet to throw the hit. A 5 minute major, no, but enough to warrant a response for a fight for sure
Wrong. Feet leaving ice is not considered a penalty (Charging) unless it happens prior to contact. Charging never gets called from a players feet leaving the ice after contact. It’s caused by the follow through from the hitting player. Hit was 100% clean
One foot leaves the ice in the follow through, which is completely legal according to rule book. Johnson skates over to Cuylle and then crosschecks him and challenges him to a fight, hence 2 MINUTES FOR UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT. Why is that so hard to understand? Get the fuck over it.
Looked like Johnson fed Cullye pretty good. That's the problem with the Rangers. They can dish dirty hits but they can't take it when they get called on the carpet.
Oh please. Cuylle did quite well. He is a rookie and was challenged. He'll still be in the NHL on a top 6 line when Johnson is tending bar in some shithole tavern.
I just wish that eventually one coach will be brave enough and take his tame and leave the game in protest of the leagues officiating. This is getting embarrassing for the NHL. And no, I'm neither and Sabres or Rags fan.
Clean hit, sometimes there’s gonna be fights after hits. That’s hockey. I see nothing wrong with that. The 2 minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct was BS. I understand Eric Johnson’s anger and frustration. I don’t know why Jeff Skinner got the boot. These refs were horrible.
I fight is not organic. One player is usually looking for it. In this case, Johnson was looking for it. Look up the rules. Either instigation or unsportsmanlike applied. The latter was the call.
This bad hit was one of several calls the refs didn't blow on the Rangers including the hook on Tuch's shorthanded breakaway. The refs also missed a couple of holdings. I was surprised they called the high-sticking penalty on the Rangers hitting Tuch.
Good check but one that needed to be punished. Some Sabre needs to jump Cuylle then tell the refs right afterward that that fight was payback for the misconducts they laid on Buffalo.
Punished? Cuylle took a couple glancing straight right hands then landed a couple viscious uppercuts that took off the buff simp's helmet, then dumped him on his crybaby hysterical butt. Not a very good message from the bison eh?
What this telecast didn’t show, (rangers telecast did) is that Johnson actually stepped out of the penalty box to voice his displeasure of the instigator after going in which is an automatic game misconduct. You can’t leave the box until your penalty time expires or the period comes to an end.

70.4 Leaving the Penalty Bench - Except at the end of each period or on expiration of his penalty, no player may, at any time, leave the penalty bench.

Another unwritten rule is not to get your ass kicked by a rookie
There is no unwritten rule about hitting a rookie. Hockey is a man's game, and that was a clean hit by Cuylle, who, by the way is a rookie himself.
LOL been watching the NHL since just before the Bobby Orr days.... there IS NO SUCH RULE you twinkie. The ROOKIE ALWAYS gets hit as introduction to the NHL.
It’s actually debatable if it’s a good hit. Both his skates slightly leave the ice before he lands the hit, which is not supposed to be a legal hit. Either way Ryan Johnson is a young kid and that was a good response.
What a horrible take LGR
Clean
Cry more
i was at the game tonight it was clean
Buffalo fans are the dumbest mother fuckers in the league.
"New York Typical"
Rangers are the only team in the league that can smack themselves in the face with their own stick and get a call this year.. their the Canadiens of 23'
Sabres got absolutely HOSED with an extra 2 for "unsportsmanlike" conduct on Johnson for asking to fight how ridiculous
Text book instigator
@chickenfkeryay if it was "textbook" instigator why wasn't that the penalty? he was penalized for "unsportsmanlike conduct" which is horseshit an instigator is when one player doesn't give another one a choice to fight just grabs and starts punching Johnson literally skated over pushed him and asked to fight both players agreed. That isn't an instigator AT ALL
@drew3851
You clearly are an expert on nhl officials and how they call the game.
@chickenfkeryay if you thought anything about that play was worth and extra 2 min you are a clueless homer.
He absolutely deserves the extra two for being a little bitch about it.
why is no one in the entire comment section saying how this is a dirty hit? checked - from behind - into the boards. its literally textbook.
The extra minutes for johnson was completely absurd and he had every right to be angry. And for those saying it was a "clean" hit, watch it again. He clearly leaves his feet to throw the hit. A 5 minute major, no, but enough to warrant a response for a fight for sure
Utter nonsense
Get the fuck over it.
lol Johnson not realizing going after someone for a good hit = game misconduct this year 👀
Looked like Johnson fed Cullye pretty good.
Warrior play by EJ
why wasnt there an instigator?
no need to have to fight after levelling a player clean
It was
High hit
"no need to have to fight after levelling a player clean"
Why not? No rule says you can't.
It’s called sticking up for your teammate
Smoke much weed?
So now you have to fight after every clean hit? What a joke. Johnson go home.
This was not a bad hit, do u even watch hockey?
No it was not a bad hit.
Didn’t look bad to me… main point of contact was shoulder to shoulder
No one can say this hit wasn’t clean. I get that Johnson wanted to stand up for his teammate, also for game momentum but game was called fine
Refs and the NHL destroying the game we love.
This was in zero way the refs fault lmao.
Cuylle getting a preview of his future, how them knuckles taste "tough" guy
I don't think Cuylle is afraid of fists. Top 6 Rangers forward for the next decade.
So sad you get instigator penalties for sticking up for a teammate who gets hit from behind fuck the nhl
Sabre guy won that fight.
God loves you all
Good check but one that needed to be punished.
@@dabb2053okay Jack edwards junior…
good hit. skates left the ice... stop being such a fancy figure skater and add a couple pounds
Shut up rangers fans
You sound angry lmfao
hold that L =D
Weren’t the Sabres supposed to make the playoffs this year? LMAO
loser
Instigator good call
Johnson is the man
Johnson is one Dumb Idiot.
