two years ago I basically taught myself how to play piano by watching your tutorials, and then began doing my own thing. Since going off to college, I haven't been able to practice, and almost exactly where I was before I started playing. You have put out so many videos since, and I cannot wait to relearn piano with your help. Thanks for doing this.
Hi John. This Alex from Brazil and I have been tracking your tutorials almost a year by now. You are awesome. Thank you very much. Since I start playing with you I have improved a lot my piano skills. Alex.
Thank you sooo much. You are my inspiration. I have been playing since I was seven but I stopped playing for a year .after watching one of your tutorials I was amazed. Then I started playing again thanks to you. You are the best . THANK YOU
The video annotations you've added are exceptionally helpful in learning it faster. Much less back tracking to catch what you missed since you can hear and read it. Thanks!
John your tutorials are top notch. Perfect pace for an adv beginner/interm+ player. Glad to see new uploads of tutorials the other day. - Here's a tip for those like myself who are trying to figure out quick fills that may not have had time to be documented. Add this string to the end of the youtube video: &html5=1 That shows the video in html5 mode. Then click on the gear icon below the video. You can replay at .5 speed to figure out a tricky spot. Very helpful to master embellishments!
No problem John. I have used that tip to slow down different "over the shoulder" piano performances. Not necessarily tutorials but piano covers where someone did something interesting. The html5 slow down trick let me figure out what their blur of finger movements was actually doing ;-) Useful to keep in mind.
You are AWESOME and a great teacher I have learned so much from you and I thank you! Are you familiar with the late great Tommy Bolin? He has a song on his Teaser album called Dreamer written by Jeff Cook I really want to learn .Would you please show me how to play this beautiful song?
wow ur awesome haha im writing al l the cords down above your hands tht u put in the video. its so awesome how u can take a song and listen to it and put the piano part of the song together by urself:) so ya thanks hah means a lot for someone to do this and put it on youtube
It was a 1905 Steinway Vertegrand that had the hammers laquered to make it imitate the brighter sound of a tack piano. The detuning was done with the assurance that the piano sound would retain its harmonic properties when chords were played as if some chorus effect was added. The book states on pg 314 that this piano was also used on Penny Lane and With a Little Help From My Friends
pianojohn113: I'm sure you have the "ears" to suss this out ... in the great book "Recording the Beatles," it is mentioned that Studio 2 at EMI had an upright piano that was purposely kept slightly out-of-tune and this very piano is featured on many recordings from around Pepper onwards. Are you able to hear the songs where this piano is being used? "You Never Give Me Your Money/Golden Slumbers" was cited elsewhere. What's made sharp or flat about this tuning, if you can explain? Thanks!
hello again, Could you please upload John's (lennon) original piano version of "free as a bird". thank you so much, that would make my day and complete my life!! haha!
John assisted Elton on the new arrangement, and played guitar and sang backing vocals on the recording. So John had his fingers in both versions. Two geniuses.
Even 10 years later these tutorials are some of the best. Thanks John!
*13 years
There isn't one tutorial I never liked that you have posted and I don't think there ever will be! Bravo!!
I love John. You are a gifted teacher. Very thorough yet breezy instruction style. I owe youi. Ronnie

I'm bad at chords sometimes, so this is very tricky when it comes to the chords... :c
Lani Alvarado lol i can either do good chords or good melodies but not together
@@croja07 You can just practice, i bet you've got it by now.

And what about an Octopus's Garden's tutorial? Or Happiness is a Warm Gun?

@pianojohn113 Oh Bullshit...

Fuck’s sake why do all the tutorials online have the right hand playing the singing part
sweet as a nut!
Yeah the Lucy referred to in this song ended up dying of breast cancer
Oh Bullshit...
his singing could use some work
hmm yeah ik if only this was a piano tutorial and not a singing tutorial huh -_-

Great song, but Elton did a better job performing the song than the beatles .
John assisted Elton on the new arrangement, and played guitar and sang backing vocals on the recording. So John had his fingers in both versions. Two geniuses.
LOL your kidding right? Thats the funniest thing I have heard in a long time, NO COMPARISON
