Seeing that sewing chest really hit home hard. My late wife had one of those and she loved to sew. She passed away from cancer 22 years ago Friday, the 26th, the day after Thanksgiving. RIP, Kitten.

Well here it is Thanksgiving morning, the waterfall cabinet, made me cry I have the matching bedroom set my Mother bought in 1942, in a spare bedroom, she waited for my father, her boyfriend to come back from the war Battle of the bludge. Blown up, and purple heart veteran, back he came in 1945, they were married for over 50 yrs. thank you Alex for the bittersweet memories
Great video Brother. I used to help My Friend at a Record store in Toronto Ontario Canada. We had to manage 75 thousand records plus around 10 thousand CD's and books including comics video games and magazines. It was a blast for Me working there. I helped Him for 5 years. Thanks for sharing Your Adventures 😀 👍 ♥️ 🇨🇦 🎉🎉🎉🎉👏👏👏👏🎉🎉🎉🎉💯💯
The school crock maybe could have a wooden lid made. Would think a busy school crock would do better with a lid of wood as it gets put on and off so much more.
I love looking at all this wonderful old stuff! However, I'm only about 2/3rds through the video and just watching him sorting it all out has me exhausted, whew....
You can have lids for the crocks fashioned out of reclaimed wood. Mine were made at a boatyard here in NS but Joshua Alexander could no doubt make one for the water cooler. Not original, but makes the wonderful old crocks highly functional.
The two large crocks are for pickling sauerkraut. You would place shredded cabbage and pickling ingredients in the crock, and a heavy wooden lid would be placed on top. The lid, which fit just inside the crock, would be weighted, and the sauerkraut would age and pickle with the lid and weight on top. The jugs could have been for a lot of things. My mother had an antique five-gallon jug, with the label still on it. The jug had contained arsenic. (Arsenic was used to treat anthrax.)
Oh this brought me backin the BEST way possible! My mom used those crocks for planters and all sorts of stuff, great umbrella holders! She had that little table too awww good memories
I have the same cow bell in my bell collection! I had a uranium ware platter that no one wanted at my garage sale, so it went to Goodwill. As you said, they sometimes have gems. The square sided bottle is a gin bottle. They fit better in a case of 12 and didn't break as frequently as a round bottle did. If you were closer, I would let you pick through my parents' garage for treasures!
Love all the crocks and I have a sewing box exactly like that .my friend bought it for me about 15 years ago .she paid five dollars at a thrift store for it .I love it .
I just love watching you unbox your finds. Re the waterfall bedside stand -- toss the castors in the drawer for the next owner to decide to use or not. I think it was a brilliant idea to put castors on it the way they did.
I have a waterfall end table similar to that. I need to get a sheet of wood veneer to replace the ripped up top, though. My mom has the accordion sewing table from the 1970's. I loved looking at all of the sewing notions inside when I was a kid. :)
The little cupboard/table is called Waterfall style. Also the sewing box with accordion opening drawers were very desirable, maybe still are, especially if it was made in Finland or somewhere over there. Lol I can't remember. Anyway check the bottom for a mark, and look on eBay. They can be $40 - $400 American.
We have my German grandpa’s crocks that we still make sauerkraut in. We had to buy a replacement lid for one of them. Replacement lids are readily available online. We also purchased the weights that go inside the crocks to make sauerkraut. Lots of people are making sauerkraut nowadays.
Alex, My mom has that same sewing cabinet. I remember when I was a kid I would play with all the trinkets inside. My mom would bust this out and fix anything and everything. I will have to show her your video. Thanks for the memories!!! -Matt with the green Baja Bug
As you dropped off at the auction house I could see that you went with a soft tonneau cover on the truck. That’s how my current truck is also configured and have found it to be a reasonably good, flexible solution on most days.
Medalta flooded in 2013... i went down to help with the High River flood with a vac and wash combo unit and ended up in Medicine Hat at the medalta plant ... a historic site now ... i cleaned one of the buildings that had about 200 crocks with lids in all sizes that were brand new...never ever moved from the shelf... we were not allowed to touch them or move them... its a crock collectors dream come true
That is a neat little side table . Love the glass wear and crocks. I have an old crock my Dad used to make rootbeer . Right now it is a magazine rack but use to be used in my kitchen when there were more mouths to feed. They come in handy. Keep Safe ❤Keep Well ❤
Dear Santa, I have been very, very good and all I want for Christmas is that sewing chest that Alexander showed in this video. I live in the white house at the end of the street in Poland, by the school. I don't have a chimney but I'll leave the door off the latch. I really have been VERY good!
Oh Figaro! What a lovely letter! I’m sure that you’ll be on Santa’s list - I wonder what he has lined up for you! It would be good to know! Take care from the UK!
Keep that and make your own chive or garlic butter. You can freeze that. It's so good. You just mix the two together. Chilli butter... Nice mould to have around the house 👍
Nice load of interesting vintage bits. I hope you kept that white enamel chamber bucket. I have one that I use for kitchen veg scraps for garden composting.
Carleton Ware is *hugely* collectible here in Australia. I have quite a few pieces of it from my Mum and we've had them valued at hundreds of dollars (AUS). Most of the designs feature florals and leaves and strong colours. Some, though, are quite nice art deco designs. I like them. :)
Carlton Ware was popular in Australia for wedding gifts in the 1950s I think. I still see a bit of it in charity shops. Some pieces are valuable, but not all. Last time I checked, my leaf plates were $35 Australian. That was a whole ago though. I read an article that said they are English and that only the design was registered in Australia - as at the time it gave better copyright protection.
I'd love that little cabinet, I wish I lived closer so I could pick it up. If I find an old portrait in a cool old frame I hang it straight up on my wall. I call them the Pseudo Family. How many guitars is too many guitars? Every guitar you own. Plus one.
that little waterfall piece is a great bedside table for a small room...you use the cabinet by the wall for bedside table and you have just enough room to walk around the bed so as to make it up. I used one in an 8x10 bedroom...it was great.
Looks a lot better. That was a lot of work. I learn so much when you tell about all the interesting pieces you find while sorting. I love a good treasure hunt, but my price point is usually the Goodwill stores where I find some good stuff for cheap. 50 cents for a music box, or $1.50 for a beautiful green ceramic pitcher, etc. Good luck at auction:)
I have that exact sewing cabinet and I use it in my fine art studio. It works great to store smaller types of art supplies. If I was in Canada I'd get that from you, but I'm in New Mexico.
I have one of those sewing boxes and it holds all my buttons, pins, and snaps. I love it. Did you ever find the rest of that beautiful kerosene lantern? Have a great day
We had one of the electric vibrators shown at 16:18 when I was growing up. My mom used it to massage her scalp and any aching muscles that we had. When you were hurting, it felt so good to loosen tight muscles.
Leave the wheels in the drawer. Owner was probably using it in a sewing room for supplies, and the wheels let it roll easily from table to sewing area. Someone else might have the same idea.
I grew up with a dresser just like that. It was my mother's but when she got a new set of bedroom furniture, I would up with it in my room. Wish I knew what happened to it.
@@richardcline1337 , I actually used the vanity dresser for a few years when I lived with my sister. I was careful not to damage it. I knew it was old and special, in great condition too.
We had a set of waterfall bedroom furniture that my MIL gave us when we married. She and her husband bought it when they were married (my husband’s mother was much older than my parents). I hated it - thought it was hideous - and stuck it in the guest room; then it became my daughter’s. I ditched the bed and she used the chest and the vanity with the fancy shaped mirror. I eventually dragged it to the curb where the metal guys promptly stole the hardware and someone else with a truck picked it up and drove it away. Still not a fan, but that little bedside table by itself is sort of cute.
In the late 1940's , my Dad had a furniture making shop in Vernon BC he had the press equipment to make the Furniture like the " waterfall " nightstand . China cabinets, and dining room sets.
I nominate Alex to be the next 007. Like Bond he does indeed seem to know about everything. Being happily married to boot could only serve to make the series more wholesome for audiences.
Really wish I live closer by, that Art Deco nightstand is gorgeous! And I see so much in your store I'd love to buy, it's a great looking store, so inviting!
Carlton ware is very collectable here, or it was. That little picture frame was charming and with mirrors in back and front, one magnifying, would get a lot of interest, I'm sure! XXX

Waterfall is the maker for the nightstand. Notice the soft curve from the top to the drawer. They made a lot of bedroom furniture that is considered desirable.
Waterfall actually refers to the style of those pieces, not the manufacturer. It's because of the way the front edge curves over and down like a waterfall.
Hunh, I didn't know those crocks had lids for them! I just recently sold my sewing cabinet that expands like that one you showed. Thanks for letting us see what came in :)
Some of that uranium glass ware is in the pattern of Rose of Sharon. Look closely and you will see the little roses. My mom collected the pink colored ones.

I trawl through occasional record collections in "antique shops", but never come across thse delights. Maybe some merit in a trip to Canada, lol.
The piece you removed the wheels from is an art Deco era waterfall style nightstand... it has great veneer details, and appears to be in great original shape... the handles are not period correct... while they are ornate and special in their design, the stand would have had a much simpler style pulls... if you have any knobs or hardware I'd swap them out
I agree - something square, maybe with some black or tortoise inlaid in a goldstone metal or even pyramidal. It also probably had little wooden casters on the bottom that broke so they stuck those new casters on it.
Wish you were closer to me for this load. Just bought a small farm as is and one of the dressers they left behind is an exact match for that night stand. And I would love to get some old crocks for sauerkraut and pickle making, Corning etc. then that old sewing kit . . ,. And . . . And . . .

that bottle is an 1810s to 1860s dutch gin bottle also referred to as case bottles because they are square they were easy to fit in cases on ships they are also referred to as coffin bottles because of their shape. they were very popular and are found in the ground and water around the globe they are found in the waters off south Africa to the remnants of the 1845-7 ill-fated Franklin expedition shipwrecks in Canada.
It would be cool if you picked a new record to display in your store every week or two, some of the covers are really graphic and a type of art in their own right.
You should have kept most of that stuff and put it on the Women's side AKA the new shop. Because the rest of your store seems more geared to men. Some of those cake plates might have sold for the holidays they make great little stands for decorations. I use mine to display my ceramic Christmas tree. It gives it a little height so you can put presents under it.

For the nightstand Mount a 50s bench top drill press on it and put the wheels back on.
