Gourley has gotten so good at chiming in SO quickly with the perfect peanut-gallery quips like at the end. Not to mention Sona as well, in the video the other day where she's talking about killing Conan when he said she has a slice cut out in his will, she's definitely picked up some quick wit from Conan over the years - This trio is just great
I noticed that too. I think Matt has had it in him since the start, just took a while to warm up since he admitted he was nervous at first.
But Sona has def grown into it over the years. I know the quip you’re talking about and it was such good timing and a great addition to lead them down another road lol
Prior to Conan I was familiar with Matt Gourley mostly from... all the other podcasts hes been doing for so many years. He's a comedy genius. If I can recommend my favorite, check out Superego Forgotten Classics: Wuthering Heights.
Conan is the legend he is, but it was such a good decision to include Sona - who'll always keep him grounded and refuses to compliment him - and Matt with all his experience in comedy and podcasting.

The Hot Ones bit inspired so many of us!
That video deserve at least 50M views by now but somehow it's stuck at 10M views forever.
That's because the Hot Ones audience has shrunk in the last few years. Also, with only a few exceptions, the show's just not the same as it used to be. Now all the shows are almost exactly 24 minutes long vs the older episodes, some of which were a lot longer. Feels like they've turned it into an editing grind and we're losing a lot of good stuff to the cutting room floor.

As much as we love Conan, you do realize that to a lot of people he's just a talk show host, which does not have that much of a wider audience compared to movie stars.
My thoughts exactly. Then again, I guess Conan for all his legendary greatness and unmatched comedic production is still followed and loved by a more niche audience when compared to global, screen superstars like Jackman and Reynolds.
This has kinda been Conan’s curse/blessing for most of his career - he’s never had a huge audience, but the audience he has, the ones that “get him”, are diehard. But is that really so bad?
The ad reads are always hilarious. I turned off my add blocker just for conans channel

Conan's Hot Ones appearance was amazing, because he was maintaining about four or five different comedic bits over the course of it. There was the fake bravado "This isn't hurting me at all" bit, the smearing sauce all over his face bit, the pocketing the bones bit, and the Dr. Arroyo bit. There was probably another bit or two I'm forgetting about now. And he ping ponged back and forth among ALL of these bits over the course of the show, so we never got sick of any of them. Pretty genius.

Nikki is on my Top Five Wish list; not just because she is attractive, but because of her personality, intelligence, humility, and general Kindness. Now, Conan's commitment to the bit on "Hot Ones" was so far above and beyond; He shall always have my deepest respect.

Conan did later admit he might have that unusual red-headed gene with very dulled pain/sensation receptors. This allowed him to take in mass quantities of hot sauce where he sensed much less in his mouth to stomach than most others would painfully have felt. Nevertheless, that was still very heroic on his part

@@BbGun-lw5vi On his Hot Ones recap show, he said when he goes to the dentist and they give him a shot of novocaine, he feels everything. No effect from the novocaine, and similarly, less effect from the hot sauce. He should have been hyperventilating and on the floor from that amount of hot sauce ingested. I'd say it's likely a combination of the red-head gene and insanity ;-)

Can someone tell Conan he doesn’t always need to be on… and that the point of Hot Ones is to have real conversations with guests… not the staged crap he and other late nights hosts have been doing for years. I think fans of Conan would have preferred he been real about the questions and wings, while have fun with his fake dr.
I just watched a short documentary this morning on the history of hot ones and how Sean and Chris had developed the show and the inspiration of late night talk show hosts had influenced him.
Seeing that context shows that what Conan did was in fact totally appropriate and a masterclass for Sean.
This episode was hilarious for the wrong reasons. Lmao Conan went out on a huge limb complimenting her roast, harping on how tight and well crafted it was, and you can hear Glasser internally squirming when she has to admit she had a whole team of writers helping her and Conan just casually moves on after.
