I'm literally her age and Meat Loaf is one of my favourite artists. Went to see Bat Out Of Hell The Musical and loved it.
Each verse mentions two things that the man would do for love, followed by one thing that he will not do. The title phrase repetition reasserts that he "won't do that." Each mention of "that" is a reference to the particular promise that he made earlier in the same verse. The four things he says he will never do are:
"forget the way you feel right now"
"forgive myself if we don't go all the way tonight"
"do it better than I do it with you"
"stop dreaming of you every night of my life"
At the song's conclusion, the woman predicts two things that he will do: "You'll see that it's time to move on", and "You'll be screwing around." To both of these, the male emphatically responds, "I won't do that!"
This is one of those songs you need to listen to high volume at sunset as you are driving home on cool night.💗

I work with a guy who is 42, listens to and loves 80s and 90s pop, and yet he didn't know who Meatloaf is/was or any of his songs! I was amazed. I'm in my late 50s so it's like Meatloaf's music's always been around for me.

While "most" people who are well into their forties, actually older, may have some idea who he is, he was most popular over a fairly short span of time.
It's not the least bit surprising youngsters nowadays haven't heard of him - when's the last time, before his death, you heard any of his tracks on the radio, or other media, without actually looking for it? I still have the albums on vinyl, but haven't played them in close on 30 years.
Same with most of the other music we 'grew up' with.

@GordoWG1 WG1 a young person heard Ozzy Osbourne singing with Post Malone and commented how Post Malone could help Ozzy with his career. Then there was another person heard Kanye West with Paul McCartney and thought it was nice of Kanye to help Paul McCartney get started in music. I think more people would know Ozzy and Sir Paul McCartney than Meatloaf.
Fun Fact: (According to Casey Kasem) When they were auditioning for the female voice for this song,... the singer (Lorraine Crosby) was passed on. She was so upset that she had a bad audition that she left the building and in a rage, kicked the tire of a parked bus. At the same moment, Meatloaf just happened to be looking out the window and saw the kick. That was the emotion he wanted and knew that she could do it. He sent people after her to bring it back and try it again. (Meatloaf you may also recognize as the father in Kickapoo). I also love his song Object in the Rear View Mirror, but he has a lot of great ones.
This is one of my favorite songs. He believes that he will find her again in the next life, and will remain faithful even after she has passed. He remained faithful and being alone made him a monster wallowing in depression, breaking mirrors so he wouldn't see how alone he truly is without her and what he let himself turn into. When he transitions from monster to human, it is him passing away and meeting her again. They ride off into the dawn of a new life together.
On the VH1 show “Storytellers” (back in the late 1990’s) he explained what “that” was: if you listen to the line before the chorus it says “I won’t stop thinking about you”, “I won’t be moving on” or the female sang “sooner or later you’ll be screwing around”. Those lines tell you what “That” is.
His Storytellers episode was so popular that VH1 sponsored his next tour and it was his Storytellers tour. I went to his stop here In Washington, DC.
He was one of the best singer out there, he recently died R.I.P Meatloaf

@@paladinminipedro707 Yes, the story I know is that she was in America, and at that studio specifically, to meet some industry people. The vocalist they'd hired hadn't turned up, but Meatloaf wanted to get his part down, so got her to lay down guide vocal for him, which was so good they ended up using it. But since she hadn't been hired for the job, didn't get paid. It certainly sucks. And it seems doubly insulting that they got a model to lipsync her vocals in the video. I bet that model got paid!

But he wrote it for Celine Dion and on that , if it's not broken don't fix it. 🙃

I have been listening to Meatloaf for decades and honestly, I didnt know what the "THAT" was either. I just read an interview with Meatloaf where he explained that the "that" in question is in the previous line. There are apparently 9 "thats" listed in the song that he wont do but we have to listen for them.

Bat out of Hell was the first rock tape I ever bought - It was an 8 Track. Yes I'm old. Love his voice. This was played at every dance. It was a mix of slow dancing with breaks of faster dance. Brings back a lot of good memories. Thanks

You MUST do "Paradise By The Dashboard Light" when you do Meat Loaf ... you just have to. Not as a reaction, perhaps, but privately. It's a bit of a must of a time gone by ... it could well be the continuation of this storyline some 10 years later. :)
The actress in the video, Dana Patrick is lip singing Lorraine Crosby's vocals. The story behind Lorraine Crosby on how she she got the job was that the recording for I Would Do Anything For Love was to take place in the studio and the female vocalist that was hired didn't show up and Lorraine Crosby was in the studio making her own record and they asked her to stand in and low and behold she did extremely well they used her take. And she didn't take any credit for it. And this became a MASSIVE HIT globally! 2x Platinum in Australia, Platinum in Germany, Platinum in the Netherlands, Platinum in New Zealand, Gold in Switzerland, Platinum in the UK and Platinum in the US!

Her name is Dana Patrick and what meatloaf means by I won't do that is that he won't cheat on her and screw around.
He says what he won’t do in the previous lyric. For example “I’ll never stop dreaming you every night if my life, and I’ll do anything for love but I won’t do that”
The “that” being what he had said previously “I’ll never stop dreaming of you every night of my life”
The “that” is also a response to Mrs Loud’s lyrics.
He won't leave he won't betray her and move on. Paradise By The Dashboard Lights is phenomenal and funny. You should check it out!

1985 checking in. I’ve known about Meatloaf since I was 15, found him on my own.
The fact that this song has so many different interpretations is what makes it not only so beautiful, but powerful.
At the end, she knows he will live long after her and that he'll forget her, but he vows he won't do that and no one seems to notice that his face and hands are human now because of love. Beauty and the Beast vibe. And I will ALWAYS believe that the voice behind the actress is TINA TURNER!

Meat Loaf's first album came out in 1977. His career really started when he had a very small part in the movie The Rocky Horror Picture Show which came out in 1975. He played A biker in it.
Actually, he'd been in the musical "Hair" prior to "The Rocky Horror Picture Show".
People always seem to not understand what "he won't do" is. He is saying it in the song and if you actually listen to it, you will understand.

Meat Loaf is an actor who could also sing that became a rock star. Most of his success came from singing songs written for him by Jim Steinman. Steinman has written several musicals over the years, including a collaboration with Andrew Lloyd Webber (Whistle Down the Wind), & one inspired by Batman (which sadly was never staged), but his grand masterpiece is Bat Out of Hell, the Musical, the songs of which were scattered in numerous albums, as performed by various artists (his go-to interpreters were Met Loaf & Bonnie Tyler), over some 40 + years. Bat Out of Hell, the Musical is a retelling of Peter Pan, in which Peter Pan is a vampire, & is set in a post-nuclear wasteland.
To me, Meat was a singer who could act...there will never be quite another like him.
Please do "Bat Out of Hell" and "Paradise By the Dashboard Light" by Meatloaf

I started listening to them since the beginning w/ Bat Out of Hell single & album release.
That album has sold over 43 million copies according to 1 source. The whole album is great. It's a must-listen. See the videos too. all 3 of the Bat Out of Hell albums are great.

Lorraine Crosby is an English singer and songwriter. She was the female vocalist on Meat Loaf's 1993 hit single "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)". Her debut album, Mrs Loud was released in 2008. The actress in the video, Dana Patrick, is miming to Lorraine Crosby's vocals; she did the same for Patti Russo's vocals in the 1995 song "I'd Lie for You (And That's the Truth)
Patrick received several offers for record deals after the video aired, from executives who assumed she was actually singing in the video.
He was Eddie in “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” He was in the music industry from the 70’s onward. After this, I'd recommend “Paradise by The Dashboard Light” also by Meat Loaf and written but the latter Jim Steinem. Sadly, both men have passed away. Todd Rundgren arranged the music, particularly the guitars, on both Bat Out of Hell and Bat Out of Hell II. He was in his high school choir and was once offered to be an opera singer. He's a vampire. Song writer-composer Jim Steinem had a fascination with vampires and actually wrote a musical about vampires. The actual female singer was Patti Russo. That video is not the whole song.

2. Screw around
The female singer is Lorraine Crosby. She recorded the vocal in the studio. But on tour, his female lead vocalist for 20 years, Patti Russo, sang the vocals.
And if you've ever seen The Rocky Horror Picture Show, you've seen Meatloaf. He plays Eddie the biker.

This music video is the greatest combo of Bram Stoker's Dracula, Beauty and the Beast, and Phantom of the Opera 😂 But with motorcycles. So good. My mom introduced me to him when I was a kid (I'm 30 so mid 90s).
The vampy women coming out of the bed? Yeah, directly ripped from Bram Stoker's Dracula down to the beaded head piece one of them is wearing
The lady voice that you hear is Lorraine Crosby. She is from my home town Newcastle, England. She was in the States at the request of Jim Steinman (who wrote this song) on the day the female vocals were to be laid down for the track, the original choice didn't turn up to the studio and Lorraine was asked to lay down her vocals as a guide but some were along the line her vocals were kept on the release and the model in the video mimed along. Lorraine recieved no credits, royalties or awards for the track (even though her vocals are arguably the best and most iconic part of the song).
Lorraine just happened to be in the right place at the right time and over the years featured on other Meatloaf songs under the name Ms Loud. Lorraine now lives a quiet life still in Newcastle, she tours locally with her husband and band, mainly small venues and camp sites.
That's what I loved about living through the 70's we were all over the place lol

The last female verses were sung by UK singer Lorraine Crosby (credited as Mrs. Loud on the credits). A lot of people confuse her with another singer that Jim Steinman wrote music for, UK singer Bonnie Tyler.
Weird fact. Lorraine appeared on UK singing show the X-Factor in 2005 where she only got to the second round as Simon Cowell said she 'lacked star quality'!!! Never mind Simon, this single only reached number 1 in 28 countries. I think your best is 16 at the last count!!

He always gets the question what is that he answers on the VH1 show storytellers he says that at the beginning of each chorus or at the end of each verse he makes a statement I will do anything for love but I won't do that prior to that statement he just said the thing that he would not do I believe they are: " I'll never do it better than I do it with you", " I'll never forget the way you feel right now" and she makes the third claim that: "one of these days you'll be screwing around" - I Won't Do THAT!

Yes, there are "Beauty & Beast" elements to this video. However, there's also a Francis Ford Coppola/Bram Stokers Dracula 1992 element as well. FYI---the women who appear in the bed with his "Beauty " come right out the scene where Johnathan Harker/Keanu Reeves ventures from Castle Dracula into another room where the three brides accosting J. Harker drain him slowly.

Absolutely. This 'version' was not even recorded to be shorter, they literally just cut out half of the song and faded it in and out. It is an affront to all that is Meat Loaf!
If I recall correctly, this came about when a Dracula movie with Keanu Reeves and Gary Oldman was popular, and they even use some of the actresses from the movie. Or at least similarly dressed. So yes, his love committed suicide and he has been searching for her reincarnation for centuries...as Dracula. It's part of the plot.
