Hey Maggie! :) I just discovered Colm McGuinness Music. His voice goes INSANELY deep! I saw the videos of Misty mounains cold, and one of If I had a heart (by Fever Ray). He claims he doesn't alter his voice and it's all just extra layers, but his voice seriously is the deepest I have ever heard by far! You might like to give it a try! :-)
Hey Maggie, I would watch Master of Puppets, or Welcome home sanitarium (for another slower song), and for pure Metallica raw power try Battery. Keep up the great videos.
Yes. Metallica is the biggest metal band in the world. They not only survived the 80’s hair bands, the 90’s grunge, and the millenium… they thrived more than any of their peers. They helped keep metal relevant through when it wasn’t the new popular sound. They’ve had bed albums but even those were forgiven because following this band is like a book with a chapter for everything achievement and heartbreak that they’ve endured.
if you want to see something amazing, check out Metallica's live concert in Russia back in the early 90's the crowd looks like it goes over the horizon, its like half of eastern europe showed up. the music was good, as expected they are fantastic, but the crowd size is off the scale
They do not know how many there were in Moscow then. It was a free concert. Lars (The Drummer) says that the organizers estimate the amount at 600,000 people.
The first ballad that they did was on their second studio album, Ride The Lightning, a song called “Fade To Black”. It’s another great example of their range and a fantastic song too but, though I think it alienated some of their fans because many of them only wanted the hard stuff.
I am just so impressed with how many classically trained and opera trained musicians and singers are impressed by rock and metal when analysed in detail. It always seems to validate my passion and appreciation of the genre. I’m autistic and back in school (over 40 years ago) I done well in a test to figure out if we were musical! I should say I was only diagnosed autistic 7 years ago and I found learning music by ear way easier than via theory and notation. It shows, though, that writing off a genre of music because “it’s not my style” has the potential of leading you to miss out on new ideas that over time combine to become your style, whether your instrument is guitar, drums voice or whatever. It opens the mind to something pretty amazing!
its an odd thing but ive always felt that classical music and even opera to a lesser extent have more in common with metal then they do with most other genre's
For a generation of us that came up on Metallica in the early 80s this material kind of represents their shift towards a much more mainstream Hardrock sound which did bring them a bazillion new fans. Unfortunately it also meant that I had to wait in line with a bunch of people I would just as soon slap-in-the-face as have to deal with when it came to going to see the band. It's always tough because you're happy for the band and their success, but at the same time now that moshpit is full of jocks who didn't know what they were doing they were just there to hurt somebody, latecomers you really didn't understand the Genesis of the thrash movement that spawned Metallica,... There is a holier-than-thou Puritan vibe that it's easy to fall into when I look back on how precious their first three records were to me versus what came after the fact. But there is no disputing they've done very well for themselves, and they are certainly still an excellent Gateway band to getting people into heavier music.
I got into Metallica because of the Black album, Before that it was Manowar and Iron Maiden, bands like that. I don't think I would have been ready for the earlier Metallica. But then it went fast, The old stuff From Metallica, Sepultura, Slayer and Pantera amongst many was what I listened to for many years...And all that, i think, because of the Black Album Gateway. All that said I think, that putting "Latecomers" all in the same Category is wrong. Mosh pits Aren't a Trash only Thing. In my experience those who don't understand the culture amongst metalheads, are those that dont listen to it often, but like the softer material from a single metalband, and go to a concert. amongst that group that are a few that really fucks it up.
Grow up & realize we all change as we get older, been listening to them since "no life till leather" changed our lives! & was simply the air we breathed, as we got older so did they, to explore yourself as you get older is human, just because they're METALLICA they're still just men, they're musicians before metal! If you don't know that by now then you'll never know what they're about, grow up
If you want to hear an A-M-A-Z-I-N-G live song by them. You said OMG I love them! You would love their song "The Day that Never Comes", live in Nimes France 2009! It is such a good song and such a good performance! It has the acoustic guitar in the beginning which runs into an awesome rock song with dueling guitars and awesome vocals! I think you'll LOVE it!!
The video to that song is pretty intense too. EDIT: only problem there is the video is so good, you get caught up in it instead of the music itself lol.
Those vocal flairs at the end of those few phrases aren't on the record. The only thing I can think of is that they are the result of singing this song at every show for 30 years, straight. Hetfield's signature vocalization is "yeah!". And I'm totally with you: when James started the final solo - that passion and intensity on a song that almost didn't make the record because it was so personal is just ... awesome...
You mentioned the crowd size as the video was first starting. That's nothing. Watch their Enter The Sandman video when they played in Russia in 1991. The crowd size was 1.6 Million. Not a typo. Great video shots of the sea of people in front of them.
When I first heard the name Metallica in the way back, I immediately imagined a loud hair band with rough voices, screechy guitar solos and that kind of stuff, Then I heard them... Interesting lyrics, skillful singing and playing and a real intent to create music. You can't tell a book and all that. Good music and good reaction Maggie. Nice editing too. 🎸
You should see them on their prime. James(vocals) lost his voice already at this time. You should check this song out in 89 or “Metallica Enter Sandman live in moscow 91

I have never particularly liked metal music at really, but Metallica is so good they have been one of my favorite bands all my life. I Love how you enjoy these different genres (Rock) even though it isn't your vibes as a Singer! I've thoroughly enjoyed so many of these Rock artists and felt so many of their songs are raw and full of truths that society wishes to disregard, in a way which emphasizes the pain and fury, but also the passion and beauty that comes from unleashing those voices... Thank you for sharing your voice and truth as well!
Great reaction!! Fun fact about Metallica, ONLY ARTIST IN THE WORLD TO PLAY IN THE 7 CONTINENTS INCLUDING ANTARCTICA!! On December 8th, Metallica played a little show south of the border. Way south: the band's set took place inside a dome on the heliport at the Carlini Argentine Base in Antarctica. The performance featured 10 songs and solidified them as the only band to play all seven continents.
HIs voice was shot in this performance. They are so good live that I have seen them over 2 dozen times. This was definitely not one of his best performances. Still, it's always awesome to see appreciation for talent in styles that aren't necessarily in a person's personal tastes. Respect for talent is import, so thank you for what you do!
This was my wedding song. It was a different version, but still an absolute masterpiece. Have seen metallica twice and they are nothing short of spectacular. Love them!
A few months ago Metallica was on Howard Stern with Mylie Cyrus playing this song, celebrating the 30th anniversary of this song (and album). Mylie had recorded this song for her album and her producer contacted Elton John to do a piano intro and outro for the song instead of doing guitars on it. Elton zoom called into Howard Stern show while Metallica was there and said it was a no brainer doing the piano parts on this song because he thinks it is one of the best songs ever written. Thats the most ballad song that metallica has made.... I think.. would you want to react to Spit Out The Bone? its one of the best songs they made to end their latest album "hardwired"....
Maggie, if you think that this crowd is awesome, you should definitely react to Metallica 'Enter Sandman' in Russia in the 1990's. 1.6 MILLION people in attendance. Truly an epic place, time and song.
If you like singing along, check out Rocking Rio Harmony. It's a Metallica concert and he gets the crowd to sing the guitar solo in harmony and it's amazing
Love this song! I’ve seen them about 8 times live since 1986! My absolute favorite band ever! This is about their only “ballad” and they got a lot of slack for it but they are Metallica- they do what they want when they want. They wrote and create the music they are feeling at that time and I can respect that and will follow them forever! James is a master at lyrics and the whole band just comes together perfectly and they still kick ass live in their late 50s!
You do have an a-dork-able quality that’s very fun and entertaining but more so it’s humanizing. You don’t edit out the “imperfections” you are extremely comfortable being, well l, you and that’s a reason we like you and your videos. Half of what you say about how people sing I don’t understand and half of the other half I think I know but probably don’t. Either way keep doing what you are doing and I’ll learn and be entertained. Also your snip of singing sound of silence just on a whim reminded me of why you are a trained singer and I keep my singing to the shower and vehicle. 😂
@@metalmellie4371 They brought smoking guitars back to center stage, woke up the old school Rock and Rollers with a new sound. Gave the old guys a jolt to try again. Just an opinion and I know everyone has one. Nit tone down what they are or have done.
Your little red guitar at the end was perfect for this video as was your reaction to end of the song. Would love to see you react to Lacuna Coil "Spellbound " or "Nothing Stands In Our Way"

I saw Metallica, GNR and Body Count (with Ice T) @ Jack Murphy Stadium in San Diego. It was James first concert back after recovering from the burns he got from the pyro accident. What a show! Body Count opened and got escorted off stage by the SDPD after they played a certain song as their closer. Metallica and GNR were co-headliners so they rotated their order of appearance at different venues throughout the tour and if I remember correctly GNR took the stage next. About 3/4 of the way through their set they managed to set one of their banners depicting the 2 different color album covers that represented the double album Use Your Illusion on fire from the pyros. It took forever to set up the stage up for Metallica so they started a “kiss cam” type of thing on the big screen which quickly turned into flashing various parts of the female anatomy at the merciless prompting from the crowd. All 3 bands put on top notch shows and between the long set ups between each band the extended sets, it was about a 6-7 hour show and I remember a PA announcement about the venue running out of beer which didn’t make anyone happy. Probably the best concert experience of my life! The only other shows that came close for me personally was Cinderella and Queensryche at the San Diego Sports Arena and the first IHeart Music Festival at the MGM Arena in Vegas.
I hate that that song has more or less been scrubbed from existence. I have it on an iPod but it is not available streaming and it really is a great song musically.
Great reaction Maggie, really nice about picking up all the vocal dynamics, and guitar. I've seen Metallica twice, both with the original bassist Cliff Burton, and almost a third time after his death, but I lost my brakes coming off the highway. In short, I sent my then-girlfriend: now-deceased wife home with the tow truck, my two friends and I got home via the bus station. I love the sound of electric guitar.
It's Metallica... and it's 'Nothing Else Matters '... period!! Great reaction, Maggie, needed some 🤘🤘 lol, closing this year with this video is the best!! Happy New Year!! 🎸🎸💖💖
I saw them live at a Lollapalooza in 1996 but haven't followed them since. James sounds quite a bit different here than he did back then. I remember his voice being a lot stronger when he was younger.
You really should check the shows they did with San Francisco orchestra, it’s amazing, no leaf clover, bleeding me and outlaw thorn are amazing songs and James voice is very good!!!
Simply in my fan opinion of Metallica for 40 + years they ARE the biggest band in the world. They tour constantly. Fun fact Maggie. Metallica is the only band in history to play all 7 continents in 1 year. A Metallica concert isn't just a concert. It's an event. They always get the crowd involved to sing along and put on 2 and a half hour killer show. My favorite Metallica song is "Battery" it's a great thrash song. You want the other side of Metallica react to it. They trick you into a false sense of calmness with the acoustic intro. Then they unleash all hell and it's fast! Check out their performance of "Battery" from the Seattle 1989 concert. It's faster which you don't think possible. Welcome to the Metallica family! Great reaction!
Anybody else just wonder if sometimes Maggie is in Juliard practicing, and her mind is wonderin how can I transform this classical piece in to a rock ballad? I bet she growls in it from time to time🤔
James Hetfield was told by Elton John that he thought that was one of the greatest songs ever written, I'm convinced they can play anything from melodic to hard and fast
@@timshannon6363 lol all good. Yeah David was a metalheads before him and had a drum kit as a teen. He was also part of the inspiration for Master of Puppets. He had a coke issue.
You need to find S&M, the 2000 concert they did with the San Francisco Symphony orchestra, directed and orchestrated by the late great Michael Kaman. You will not be disappointed. In 2020 they did a followup, appropriately called S&M2.
I started playing guitar thanks to this song’s intro. Best ever for me. In the original video, the last instrumental section last a lot more and it has 1 BILLION views…so yes: this song it’s pretty famous XD
I never saw the similarity of the opening of nothing else matters to hallelujah ... *mind blown*, that was an awesome assessment! also you may wanna check out a live performance of My Friend Of Misery - with James (lead singer) directing the crowd.

they play this song at my friends funeral 36 years ogo and alsways remember him when i hear this song:( but so i never forget him:)
Now please listen to the studio version...it is beyond sublime!
Thats the most ballad song that metallica has made.... I think.. would you want to react to Spit Out The Bone? its one of the best songs they made to end their latest album "hardwired"....

I remember when this album came out
Maggie, if you think that this crowd is awesome, you should definitely react to Metallica 'Enter Sandman' in Russia in the 1990's. 1.6 MILLION people in attendance. Truly an epic place, time and song.

If you like singing along, check out Rocking Rio Harmony. It's a Metallica concert and he gets the crowd to sing the guitar solo in harmony and it's amazing

Happy New Year Maggie 🤘🎸🎸
Fade to Black - one of their greatest, longest and most emotional guitar solos
Love this song! I’ve seen them about 8 times live since 1986! My absolute favorite band ever! This is about their only “ballad” and they got a lot of slack for it but they are Metallica- they do what they want when they want. They wrote and create the music they are feeling at that time and I can respect that and will follow them forever! James is a master at lyrics and the whole band just comes together perfectly and they still kick ass live in their late 50s!

Happy new year thanks for all the beautiful reactions u rock
I think many have already said this, but yeah, you should check out their concerts they did with the SF Symphony Orchestra! Beautifully arranged! \m/
This is one of my all time favorite songs. Thanks for this Maggie
Happy new Year Maggie
Saw them last week in SF for their 40 anniversary concert...last time I saw them was in 1989. They still put an awesome show!
The studio version is perfection
I like your face when making guitar noises lol. Gosh I love this band so much. I enjoy watching you reaction videos. Keep em coming
James has one of the coolest voices
You should check out the album version of this song, it is so much more simple yet beautiful at same time. You'll love it
Or the official video.🤘
This was the song my sister had playing as she walked out of the church at her wedding to the lead guitarist of the choirboys
I think he does that vocal thing live to compensate for the missing production (like the live string section swells) on the album recording.
The beginning was a snippet fromJimi Hendrix’ “third stone from the sun”.
If you think that crowd was big, find the Metalica "Enter Sandman" concert in Moscow 1991. You will be stunned. Estimated 1.6 Million in attendance.
Thank you for your comment. Hope to see you on my Slipknot LIVE reaction stream tonight?
Yes longer instrumental! They helped save hard rock. Thanks, Maggie! Happy New Year!
Metal, remember they were first thrash metal! Saved rock? Hmmmm......
Would love to see you react to Lacuna Coil "Spellbound
" or "Nothing Stands In Our Way"
Dear girl you gotta do "Call of Khtulu" Absolutely have to do S&M version when they play with orchestra, the only thing happier & more excited than your ears will be your heart! Been watching for some time & just love your reactions & just happy for you & your career! Happy New Year 🤘
Metallica is my fav Band of all Time ❤
Greatest band in history!
One of the deepest lyrics ever. Would not expect it from a heavy metal band.
Guess what? Thank you for your comment. Hope you will join us on Saturday for the Queensryche reactions LIVE STREAM?
The Best Short Solo Of all Time.. This Solo Plus Outlaw Of torn Are James's Favorites..

Waiting since now 1👏👏👏🎼🎶🎶
So glad! 🤘🤘🤘
It's Metallica... and it's 'Nothing Else Matters '... period!! Great reaction, Maggie, needed some 🤘🤘 lol, closing this year with this video is the best!! Happy New Year!! 🎸🎸💖💖
You need to see the clip from Moscow with them.. 1.6 million ppl in the audience.. It's absolutely insane...
I saw them live at a Lollapalooza in 1996 but haven't followed them since. James sounds quite a bit different here than he did back then. I remember his voice being a lot stronger when he was younger.
The end of the song that you liked so much is your Metallica rabbit hole. Happy New Year!
Thank you for your comment. Did you like my new reaction video to Metallica I just posted? Hope to see you tomorrow on my livestreams?
You really should check the shows they did with San Francisco orchestra, it’s amazing, no leaf clover, bleeding me and outlaw thorn are amazing songs and James voice is very good!!!
Thank you for your comment. Hope to see you today for my LIVE stream reaction to Scorpions in 2 hours?
I think you will like this song done live on stage with Apocalyptica. Apocalyptica is a cover band of only cellos and they mainly cover Metallica

@@maggiereneemusic yes I did
Happy New Year.🎸
Simply in my fan opinion of Metallica for 40 + years they ARE the biggest band in the world.
Thank you for your lovely comment. Will you be there for my 195K Subscriber Celebration Live Stream tomorrow?
@@maggiereneemusic What time is your stream in EST? I would love to jump in and see what is going on! I wish you all the best!
6pm ET.
If you want a crazy crowd lookup Metallica in Russia, still holds up for the most people at a show at over 1 million

You meant James. David is his older brother😉
@@paulriddle7818 yes my mistake I didn't even know he had a brother, I suffer from CRS,Lol
@@timshannon6363 lol all good. Yeah David was a metalheads before him and had a drum kit as a teen. He was also part of the inspiration for Master of Puppets. He had a coke issue.
If you love guitar, listen to metallica the call of kthulu. Beautiful instrumental. And remember, they were 20 yr old kids when they wrote it.

You need to find S&M, the 2000 concert they did with the San Francisco Symphony orchestra, directed and orchestrated by the late great Michael Kaman. You will not be disappointed. In 2020 they did a followup, appropriately called S&M2.
It was actually 1999, but yes better than the latest
The S&M album version is the zenith of this song (obviously just my opinion). I used it as the ‘first dance’ song at my wedding.
I love Maggie Reneé. greetings from Mexico
Thank you for your comment. Did you like my new reaction video to Juan Gabriel I just posted?
4:25 yes, he doesnt use his left hand because the song was written to keep left hand free to hug a girl while playing ;)
I started playing guitar thanks to this song’s intro. Best ever for me. In the original video, the last instrumental section last a lot more and it has 1 BILLION views…so yes: this song it’s pretty famous XD
James has come so far as a singer, and every time they do a live It's different.
I never saw the similarity of the opening of nothing else matters to hallelujah ... *mind blown*, that was an awesome assessment!
also you may wanna check out a live performance of My Friend Of Misery - with James (lead singer) directing the crowd.
I cannot believe that you have never heard this song befoe OMG girl you will love this song !!!!
