Great timing. Just started a Garmin 5k running plan. Second day of training has cadence drills. Wondered why, now I know!

What are your thoughts on recovery, in retrospect to after months of training and your race is done. How long should you rest with easy runs and walks a decrease in weekly mileage. Then begin another training program? Thanks in advance for your perspective on this topic….🤙🏽

Great question. There is a lot of variables such as training history, intensity of the race / conditions / terrain so cannot give a succinct answer, but I do know it can take 1 day per mile for an amateur, non-regular runner to recover from a multi-day ultra. I experienced this after completing a 300 mile race in July of last year. I'm just about getting back into it. On the flip side, regular, very well trained athletes can recover in a week or so and the pro's are often back up and running 3-4 days after a race (which blows my mind lol). Hope this helps? I think the key thing is get to know yourself... HRV, sleep patterns, appetite, susceptibility to illness and injury and changes in any of those may suggest you back off a little.

@@CraigWilliamsUltra Thanks for the response, very informative and well received. As a retired military person who is still enjoying the benefits of running and getting outside. Over the past 5yrs I become more interested in the ultra distances. At age 54 I’m trying to manage the recovery and training as a holistic aspect to maintain motivation and stay injury free. Again thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it and enjoy your channel. Keep them coming. Cheers
