"Deku hasn't changed, everything else has." This the perfect quote. Deku is still the same person. His innate heroism, his altruistic selflessness, his over focus on the safety of others over his own, these all traits that have always been part of Deku. The thing is that now, everything has changed. Hero society has been overthrown, the threat of AFO has never been greater, and the black and white lenses he viewed the world in at the beginning of the story have been completely shattered. The reason Deku has seemingly 'gone off the deep end' in the recent chapters, is because of what AFO said to him during 316. His declaration that he 'is next,' planted a seed in Deku that reminds him of the danger the villains can do, and the sole consequences his role as the current OFA user brings as Deku knows much more than he likes, that AFO can and will do anything it takes to bring him down. He will hurt and torture anyone near him in order to take OFA, and so, Deku thinks of Gran Torino being slammed, Bakugou getting skewered, Aizawa losing his leg, and knows that he would rather have that happen to him rather to others, because Deku wholeheartedly believes the injuries his mentors and friends received were because of Shigaraki's/AFO's pursuit of him, and thus, them getting hurt is his fault, both from his role and lack of the neccessary power to stop them. Thus, Deku, almost unconsciously, believes the threat of AFO and the LoV is his sole responsibility due to being the current OFA user and his innate selflessness that disregards his own safety. To conclude it, Deku will continue on pushing forward, even though his body is so exhausted that he could no longer walk without using black whip to support himself. Its not just one reason or feeling that has come to this point of his character. It is the result of his altruistic selflessness, his neglectful relationship with self care, and guilt on his own pre conceived failures that has pushed him into becoming this Batman like lone wolf of Japan.
@@Spaceperson-xx8de Its more like he's changed while still not changing too same time, the perfect mix for his character development and way to handle it. Part of the point of this video, its the natural progression of his character and his own ideals for this events he's going through this arc. He's changed a lot while also not changing so much too if that makes sense.
I just like to add that if Deku fails then he can't just pass on OFA because the next person would not be able to handle it. So he's the final user of the quirk
@@Muddy120 he’s changed in the fact that he’s happier because of his friends. Now having friends has caused him to have fear of loss of them. Before it was just himself. He’s regressed back into that for safety.
What's crazy about it is there were clues about the possibility of this happening was throughout the series, including semi-canon and filler material. Look at the conclusion of each previous arc, or even the past two movies; even when they win and he's being congratulated, Deku keeps apologizing and putting himself down for "not being good enough or strong enough.
@@Muddy120 His outlook on the world & on villians has evolved, but the core idea of "Saving them at any cost" is still the same, he now also tries to save Villian's & his enemies even if they hurt him. And I think he right now has way more reasons to back up this mentality & way than ever before.
You’re not wrong. In fact, I’m quite intrigued with Horikoshi’s execution of Deku overall. He was consistent all the way through. I’m stoked to see what will happen next.
I dont see It. Changing the Core of a Chatacter is not what character progression is at all. Don Quixote never changes his core in Cervantes's Work neither does Hamlet (thou Shakeaspere's character is an example of helpless character unable to act). One of character progression technique is to throw a character and change the world around him, and tensión builds from the change of expectations. You can see this with some Zola's novels and in some movies as in Woody Allen's Blue Jasmin where the female protagonist digs herself a hole. It can be traced back from tragedy, the characters who by being themselves build an inavoidable destiny as in Antigona or La Muerte y la Brujula. Of course tragedy has a lack of chacter development, but boku no hero is not a tragedy. So as we arrive to the climax we are seeing, literally seeing, Dekus change build up by 300 chapters of progression. We are in a reverse fight from Deku salving Lida from Stain to Lida saving Deku from himself. The change is simple, Deku's ideals that made him the iconic hero in the beggining are now the same however are shown in a new light that makes those same ideals Toxic and Sick. The character's arc is ending and you can see he needs to abandon those toxic ideals and start caring about himself, the fatal flaw that as a chejov's gun was placed by the very begining. However the básic core of the character wont change, another example of that kind of story might be Peace On Earth by Alex Ross, a superhero comic. So this video couldnt be more wrong.
I think this video is just gasligthing the audience. Its fun to be a contrarian but sometimes you are not special. You are just wrong. Plain wrong. And is easy to be wrong with art. Critics are people who consume a lot but dont know how art works. I love music but I dont know nothing about Music Theory. "Character Development" is something that I imagine is well stablished in Script Writing techniques, however we all talk about It from our own subjectibe and very personal experiences. That is what builds our tunnel vision. And agreeing with this video doesnt make anyone special.
Bakugou went through Development but he is still the same at his core most people agree he is still bakugou but isnt as bad as before (I mean as a person world view not as a character)
You don't even need that many chapters to know deku has always disregarded himself. Horokoshi puts flat out states it. I believe chapter 284 bakugou, the first person deku risks his life for, states that deku doesn't take himself into account.
@@TheShitpostExperience I think his character or more so his outlook on certain things like villainy with the world of mha. What the video itself it mostly about is that deku at his core is still the same deku and his main traits are still there.
@@TheShitpostExperience It’s not lazy writing. Deku has been treated and called useless his entire life. Like Bakugo said, when he got the quirk, he was able to do more. A person who was told that they were useless will not automatically think that they are the best person in the world and be conceited so easily. Towards the end of the Liberation War Arc, he pushed himself by saying "Come on Deku, don’t be the same useless Deku you’ve always been". Since he was 4 years old he always wanted to save people like his idol All Might, but when he didn’t have a quirk he found out he couldn’t. When he did try to help a kid and strive to get into UA even without a quirk, he was physically and mentally bullied for it by Bakugo and the other kids. Even when he got into UA, he got a bit of confidence but did not think about himself other than mastering OFA and helping the people around him. This point in the manga is perfect to start Deku’ character development since his classmates will know more about Deku. They’ll be able to help in his development. Character development is influenced by events and people. This is exactly what Deku needs. So if this is lazy writing to you, I’ll be glad to read a story from you and see how that plays out. (Good night I wrote a lot, but it needed to be said.😌)
There is an interesting parallel between Deku and Bakugo. As they get stronger, Deku relies on others less while Bakugo relies on others more. Bakugo prides himself on being the strongest. He developed self-esteem issues when Deku kept trying to help him when they were young. His self-esteem got worse when All Might was forced to retire. After the fight with Deku, Bakugo is relying on others to help him. We saw that during the Class A vs Class B fight. Bakugo still believes he’ll be the #1 hero but he knows he can’t do it by himself. The opposite is true for Deku. He’s always felt worthless since he dreamed of helping others but had no Quirk to do so. Deku was about to give up on life until All Might gave him One For All. After every major fight, Deku keeps telling himself he isn’t strong enough to make people not worry about him. He is forced to rely on his classmates and they keep getting hurt. During his fight with Shigaraki; Grand Torino was forced to retire after getting stomped fightting along side Deku, Aizawa cut off his leg to keep his quirk going to help Deku, and Bakugo got stabbed in the gut saving Deku. Seeing people he cares about getting hurt drove Deku to fight by himself. He has 5 Quirks unlocked, use 45% of OFA in Full Cowling, and hit 100% with Fa Jin. With this current arc, Deku is being forced to face how his self-sacrificial mindset is hurting the people he cares about. It’s going to be really cool to see how his friends react when Deku tells them why he sacrifice himself to keep them safe.
Facts, my boy is "only" depressed, what a character development, character develop dont means exactly change personality btw, altough he continuing like this could make something, well his mentality for some things will change a bit and his notion from the world, feelings etc... will be bigger . Is fantastic the importance he have to the story, for the messages and what he represents in the story
We are seeing now the full toxic behaviour that Nighteye talked about: All Might's and Deku's Madness. It's not completely altruitic selflessness it's more selfworth issues. "Being useful" is what Deku say a lot when he's at the brink. "Don't be the unuseful Deku" If you recognize this, you will see patterns.
@@Spaceperson-xx8de Yes, because you don't take count of the opinions of others. Saying "I will be the one doing this" It's why I love My Hero Academia, Horikoshi gave us an illusion of what was "the perfect hero" and these Heroes (AM and Deku) are toxic persons. That's amazing.
@@stryfe0 You don't understand. It's the fact that are denying everything that they did or are doing to help somebody. Even after saving someone or helping someone they can say: I wasn't useful. Look at Deku in the war. He was fighting with his tongue... These words doesn't come from the best of places.
@@MpanzuELWik he does understand. Lol you’re the only one acting like you’re the only one who gleams different aspects of mha and that yours is the only answer. Lol the perfect person bit is true. However that deku is toxic is far from true. He’s the victim. He is being manipulated by the toxic person: all for one. Other than that good analysis
@Burden he does with the older league of villain members. Just not shiggy. Lol that’s just deku vs him. He does need them to take on the rest the league though
This reaffirms what I had been noticing, too. All along, we have seen this type of mentality in Midoriya (complete with him answering villain monologues with a punch in the face and him voicing his own purpose), and it had been described several times as an insanity or a madness. "If you want to know what someone is truly like, give him power," holds true here. He hasn't changed as a person, but, rather, what he IS has been amplified to the point where it cannot be masked anymore. Even him not looking like a hero fits in: he had never been good at looking or coming across as heroic to the masses, and whenever he fought seriously, he looked crazy and scary as heck. Even in the fight between him and Gentle, some people commented that Deku looked like the villain.
Izuku isn't edgy, he's just tired. The responsability of OFA and being All Might's succesor was always there, but after the war and society crumbling down, the responsability has grown exponentially
Yeah his mental state went down since the war arc and the events now, he's feeling the pressure even more since AFO too and pushing him and the war arc events changing and affecting him forever. He never will be the same person again but at the same time always will be himself deep down and have the same ideals as a person too. It's the perfect mix and perfect handle of his character, especially with him wanting to always save everyone aspect to him.
THISSSS. I remember seeing Deku's "edgy" look for the first time and thinking if he's going to have unnecessary personality changes, but then one of his first lines was "Are you okay?" and breathed a HUGE sigh of relief. Deku is still Deku.
I think he is better now because the Newer arc gives his character much more needed Characterization I like him much more now that we have more information on what kind of person he is. Atleast for me although his new design looks sick.
@@shiranuiprestonsaga8867 I don't think he's "better". He is worse not as a character but as a person. His mental and physical state is at all time low. He saw the entire society collapse right before his eyes. Criminals are rampaging on the streets, Normal citizens are feeling the most intense sense of insecurity and anxiety, and the responsibility to protect everyone lays upon his shoulder. Both as a hero and as a wielder of ofa. On top that, afo directly challenging him by saying "you are next". That laid a deep mark on Deku's mind. The knowledge that the person who is responsible for the destruction of the entire society, who's strength and wickedness exceeds every single criminal on earth, the symbol of fear himself is after him can have a great effect on a teenager. Especially a someone as selfless, and sensitive as Deku. He is scared. Not for himself but for everyone around him. He doesn't want anyone to get hurt yet Aizawa still lost his legs, Todoroki still got burnt, Bakugo still got hurt and many normal civilians still lost their comfort of daily life. Also learning the truth about the greater hero society. About Endeavor's past, about Hawk's life, and about Lady Nagant. He is now confused about what it means to be a hero. All of this is enough to break a Teenager. Yet he can't break. He knows if he does then everyone from civilians to people he loves and cares will suffer. He has to stay strong, he'd like to feel all the mental and physical anguish himself so that others don't have to. It's an extremely harmful and self-destructive mindset. He is broken yet he can't show that outside. He is can't allow himself to cry. He can't allow himself to show emotions. But He still is a soft, sensitive, emotional kid yet he has to force himself to be tough and edgy.
Not entirely dangerous. Without their heroic mindset, All Might couldn’t have become the Symbol of Peace and Deku couldn’t have accomplished the good deeds that he did throughout the story. What he is showing is how that heroic and altruistic mindset can become a vice if it’s not tempered by self-control, self-care, and sharing your burdens with those who care about and love you and want to help. Often virtue can become a vice if one is not mindful.
As Miles Morales said "I'm taking on a lot more responsibility than I can handle" That's how I see current Izuku. The weight of One For All and being All Might's successor was already there, but the war and All For One targeting him defiantly took a huge toll on his mental health
He's just like Eren Jaeger. Instead of growing with the world, he's dug himself further into who he was, which can be very dangerous when met with a master manipulator like All for one, who's already fought an ideology like Deku's in the form of All might and Nana Shimura.
@@apolloman1608 In Eren's case, his ideology never changed. He ultimately always wanted freedom, and as we know, his perspective is that the only way to achieve freedom is to defeat his enemies. And no matter how complex their "enemy" became, he still held to this ideology.
Although I wouldn't say they are exactly the same, they do both share that innate traits that drive them throughout the series. For Deku, is his altruism, that makes him a natural hero who does all he can to protect others. While for Eren, is his desire for freedom, which pushes him to fight on through any obstacle.
@@apolloman1608 eren didn't change, the final chapter demonstrates that. Erens ideology has always been freedom for himself and ultimately his friends. While it can be argued that Erens action wasn't from his own freewill with all the Ymir stuff, Eren has always been an emotional dude who fought for what he thought was right (freewill or not).
FINALLY, SOMEONE SAID IT. I was getting seizures everytime someone said deku is an anti-hero now when they don't even know the meaning of the word. Some called him anti-villain which was closer but still wrong.
@@hellothere10yearsago97 "An Anti-Villain is the opposite of an Anti-Hero - a character with heroic goals, personality traits, and/or virtues who is ultimately the villain. Their desired ends are mostly good, but their means of getting there range from evil to undesirable" We know deku's goal is good but his method is kinda undesirable. That's why I said closer because an anti hero is a protagonist which isn't a hero with conventional standards (meaning their methods are evil but still the main character of the story) which is imo farther from deku
i’ve been saying this forever. i responded to somebody’s video not too long ago and said that dekus character itself never changed and everything he does is rooted and protecting the people around him and becoming a hero as it always was and they were just like nah 😕
People unfortunately see whatever they want to with this series. When if they really had the blinders off they could see whats been there all along. This story has many noticeable parallels for a reason and when the buildup to them finally pops off it almost always hits me like a truck. A lot of them in this solo deku arc have me rubbing my temples for how much further history plans to repeat itself
I made a Deku post on why he's one of the most unique characters ever in My Hero Academia along with characters similar to him like All Might, because of his massive and huge idealism to save others that comes up countless times in the story way more than other or normal people who want to save people are like compared to him. And with his style and personality traits here and with saving others, or his hero complex as some people like to say for Deku having the traits of as a person in one phrase. This trait in him is what makes him unique as a person in the series, among many other smaller traits that he has. But this main trait is why he's unique as a person even among heroes and character who want to save people for the sake and strive to be heroes too, Deku has always been more unique than even them and the other characters in the series in that aspect and the only one who can even compare to him with his altruist and over idealism to save others is All Might, similar to the shots of the manga you showed off of Deku pushing himself and his body too far past normal human extremes and breaking his limbs, as he's done the entire series. Deku's over idealism trait to save others is a good and bad thing, its seen as a strength and a weakness and the series explores that perfectly. In the past as Ronin says it was seen as a positive trait and its the very reason Deku deserves One for All and All Might and him are seen as similar even if both their personalities are clearly different, they both have this over idealism to save others, no matter how reckless, crazy, or idealistic that drive in them both is. That's why they both have OFA. Were only now recently seeing these past few arcs in MHA and in this recent arc seeing the negative sides of that over idealism trait in Deku being explored and being seen as a bad thing too, its being seen now as he's over pushing himself too far, he's even pushing his friends, family and mentor away and trying to do everything on his own. It was always also described as a good thing and at the same time a weakness, him being reckless too much and at the same time a character flaw in Deku as well. And now this arc that character strength and at the same time flaw in him on wanting to save everyone to the fault of himself is being explored for its weaknesses to both others to his surprise and not what he initially wants, and to also himself as a person too on him pushing himself, his mental state and physical body way too far. And this among also many other reasons is what makes Deku, Izuku Midoriya such a great and interesting character and so very well written as well in this story too and Horikoshi is again handling Izuku's progression, development and same ideals from before too character of Deku perfectly here, he's the writer of this story for a reason after all. If you want to read my post and my major analysis breakdown on that and Deku's character and overly idealistic trait of his, then here is the post down below for anyone to read and give me feedback. Much appreciated, here's the link to my Deku post right here: www.reddit.com/r/BokuNoHeroAcademia/comments/nhtsg7/why_deku_izuku_midoriya_is_one_of_the_most_unique/
Joint Training Arc: Treats himself as the bait for Team Monoma War Arc: Is used as bait by Bakugo He definitely has a very selfless nature, to a degree which makes it overly detrimental to himself
Deku has changed and developed clearly as a person while still keeping his same ideals and still being the same person. It's the perfect character development and change handling for him. Horikoshi is a great and excellent writer for doing this. Making Deku, his MC develop and change a lot while also not changing as a person too much at the same time and still sticking to him same ideals since chapter 1 in the story on wanting to save everyone and be a true hero. It's the perfect mix and more people need to understand and the development style of his character. Deku and Goku have a similar change and gradual character development style in both of their series as characters, they're the perfect examples both on how real people change as a person in actual real life with it being gradual and slow but not always obvious and still being the same person and having the same ideals, but still changing and developing a lot as a person in the end in their life still through many life experience they had in the past affecting there change but in more realistic ways. Seth the Programmer did a excellent analysis on this in his Goku character analysis video and on Dragon Ball as a whole and in his Strength of Goku video, his comments on Goku's development style in the beginning of the video still holds true to all this and his character development style in the series and its also similar and perfectly mirrors Deku's character development style writing here. Deku is just going through the most dynamic and obvious change in the story right now as a person, while still being the same and same person in terms of ideals wise based on his views and values towards heroism. So in the end both sides of people on this topic are both wrong and right on this topic all at the same time. It's really interesting actually. Horikoshi is a fantastic writer for handle this once again, taking his save everyone hero complex and making Deku change and be affected by his past experiences and changing forever since the war and so on and what's going on in this arc to him. While also still staying the same as a person and keep the same ideals on wanting to save everyone but just taking those traits in him in a more darker turn and more self destructive direction for him and his character, with him wanting no one to help him at all unlike before and even pushing away All Might and telling his classmates to get out of his way. So Deku's character development style in the story is interesting and perfectly written and handled extremely well by the genius writer that is Kohei Horikoshi. He knows exactly what he's doing and really knows well of his own MC.
Deku has a flat, someone who has a belief that sticks to the truth and sticks with the belief all the way to the end. It reminds of Desmond Doss from Hacksaw Ridge.
Man I've heard a lot of people saying: "oh my gosh dekus so diffrenet and so much better." and for me I couldn't see any changes and people's descriptions seemed like exactly what he was before and they'd get mad at me when I'd ask that so thank you
That's what I've been trying to say. Deku hasn't "changed", just his look looks different. Deku is not Eren, these people are literally the civilian who sees Deku as a Villain, but it's not.
The one thing I will say is that while everyone is almost on point with this, there is a simple dark truth, there's no way to fix it.No one in class 2A will be able to change him,not even All Might.Because if it did happen that way it wasn't that large of a flaw to begin with.Maybe if he had grown up with his own quirk, loving the person he was, being praised for who he was ,it would be a different story.I love how it's progressing, what I don't like is that people think his mentality with being useless wasn't influenced by others, not that it's anyone's fault but there are factors that added to it.All might's preesure and the burden of Ofa.His nickname Deku given to him by Bakugo,Nighteye's bias to say to him that there's nothing special about him and mirio should have been given the power.Izuku Midoriya needed a soul searching arc apart from everyone because of the fact that even with the power he has ,he can't shine as much as anyone else, his only relevancy was ofa.At the end of his journey, what I expect is a more self assured serious mc with the experience and the ability. What would be best is letting go of the name Deku for once and for all ,its a reminder that he'll never be good enough in anybody's eyes including his.He needs his own approval, not anyone else's.
While I do think the eren comparison are funny deku pretty much never changed. He's always been someone who's tried to save others at any cost it's been his best trait and his biggest weaknesses at times. This trait has basically nearly killed himself numerous times and scarred up his body heavily, but it almost always has lead to him improve as a fighter and save many characters in the story. Now we are finally seeing the dark side of this trait in full force. I always found it flawed that all might is the only hero that should serve as a symbol of peace when one man can't save everyone. Whether it's now or later I hope that this all gets acknowledged since right now afo is playing him.
Thank you! I keep rolling my eyes so hard that I fear that they'll someday fall out, when ever I hear people say that Izuku is acting different. He's not. His selfless nature is just in the driver's seat and this is a prime reason why it freaked Bakugo out. Bakugo knows that Deku will go too far because he doesn't care enough about himself to stop, catch his breath and think of the repercussions. It's also why Bakugo was one of the first ready to go and get him because he knows they need to bring him back before he either breaks or get's himself killed. Just as Bakugo had to learn that sometimes you have to sacrifice to be a great hero, Izuku needs to learn that you can't save anyone if you are dead. Thank you for the video.
Exactly, well said. The self-sacrificial heroism was always there; it's only been pushed to the extreme of irrational martyrdom in this arc more than the previous arcs. If anything, I can see this arc as precedent for actual change in character; where Midoriya has to make peace with the reality of being a human being, as All Might said, too. He can't save the people he can't reach, and he shouldn't push himself to do that, because doing so will wear him down and turn him into perfect prey for All For One. I hope his classmates will prevent that.
To be fair, he HAS been working with the pros. It’s only after AFO screwed with him in 316 that’s making him freaked out and pushing others away. And considering that AFO pretty much planned all of this to happen and the latest chapter, something bad is definitely gonna happen and hopefully it does to wake everyone up
"I can't let All For One take you all way from me!" To anyone keep saying Deku went full Eren or Sasuke, this line shows Deku isn't being reckless due to angst or rage, he's motivated by fear and despair, he has not changed, he just developed
I really don't get the Sasuke comparison at all (I don't know who Even is, so I can't comment). Deku is pushing himself forward by remembering all of his friends' smiles and wants to smile with them again. In that way, he is essentially not Batman (motivated by parents' deaths) or Sasuke (once again, motivated by death and hatred).
@@RedGyl You ask me, Naruto's fandom has been desperately trying to stay relevant by comparing almost all morden anime's character as Naruto's. If he's a hardworking protagonist, then he's a Naruto clone, if he's a semi-evil rival, then he's a Sasuke clone, if she's a love interest, then she's a Sakura clone
Great analysis! I think another reason why Deku (and other heroes, especially Hawks) have been drawn as more menacing recently while some villains have been drawn as more hero-ish has been to show how the lines between hero and villain are getting blurrier as we’ve been shown the flaws with hero society
One time I can really look at this he has always been like this is the training forest arc where he almost instantly went to fight the villains then when told to get to safety made an excuse to stay and save koda. Then when not being physically in any condition to keep going and mentally only running on adrenaline. He then ignored azawa and ran off for bakugo. I've always known he has been like this. Always found it annoying when people would call him a cry baby and that's it. Like he has a right to cry. Now he is so hardened by all his battles he is going down a dark road thinking its the right thing to. Great video thow
Deku hasn't really changed, he's just put in a situation that pushes his abilities and ideals to the absolute limit. Just by changing the society around him, I finally understand why he deserves to be the protagonist. A lot of the problems I have with Deku was after Kamino and before the War. Like he was the least interesting part of the series back then, because there was really very little conflict surrounding his character. The only conflict whether he can beat up the bad guy.
Honestly I was fine with that part of the series because I knew deku would get his time. The overhaul arc and gentle criminal arc were basically more examples to go off of to show how deku is a hero. If we were to get this development and change from deku at that point in the story, we wouldn’t be able to show the proper contrast of how Deku’s altruism is also a good trait. I can see how others were bored by and annoyed by it tho, it just felt like a natural thing to me. We’ve had subtle twists and changes from deku throughout the story, so I figured season 4 was where we see how people are changed by deku. This is shown via eri and gentle criminal. And yes you could say Kota covered that already but I think it’s important to have a decent amount of non classmates effected by deku to really drive home the point of his ideals and make him a character thats fleshed out. So for me, I was fine with the slower pacing of his growth cus it felt more realistic.
@@NasirAli_1 I see. Though for me, Deku is really only interesting when he's put in situations that pushes him to the absolute limit. Because that's when you really see the true flaws in his character. When the situation or conflict is mundane and/or doesn't really challenge any of his beliefs, he is just not very entertaining to watch.
I one hundred percent agree that the core of deku has not changed but he definitley has matured as a character over the story. His personality has had a MINOR shift and he seems overall calmer and less goofy and happy but the core of his character stays the same. What has changed though is his mindet, his mindset has changed for the better in order to progress further in the story and his motives increased but at the same time his mindset is leading him down a lonely path. Its almost as if his character "anti-developed" and that doesnt make my hero academia a worser of a series. If anything the change of the hero society and this arc abeout deku is making the series better.
Deku fits well to the statement that Bakugo made in the match of the joint training arc, he hasn't changed he's just matured or grown up. Deku has always been like this cause he did the same thing in the sports festival, by destroying his body to just help someone just a bit
He’s changed and yet stayed the same. He’s more mature, more serious, he’s building up his iron will and yet he’s still doing his best to save people while now also wanting to help villains. Which is why it’s pretty dumb for that new development to just start and end in less than 19 chapters. I’m only hoping to God that something devastating happens in the next arc cause this entire thing can’t just go without consequences
People have this weird headcanon about Deku, like he's some sort of edgelord. He's the same person. Its the stakes that have changed which forces our main character's limits to be pushed to fucking extreme. A child with low self esteem but empathy for others. He "does his best" even if it means hurting himself, even if it means death.
When looking at the series in the manga and anime, as well as semi-canon and filler material, we see Izuku Midoriya putting everything on himself and blaming himself when things either go wrong or just get difficult. (Let me know if I miss any.) -The Sludge Monster: While All Might blamed himself for being careless and let him escape, and Bakugo (as we find out much much later) blamed himself for being too "weak" to beat him and being caught off guard, Midoriya briefly blamed himself distracting AM and CAUSING the TSM to escape thus causing Bakugo to get captured by him. -The Hosu Incident/Stain: Midoriya blamed himself for not doing more for Iida and not stopping him before he went after Stain (even though there was nothing I can see that he could do to stop it). (-The first film: Before AM showed up during the climax, Midoriya started blaming himself not being good enough/strong enough to stop the films main bad guy.) -Training Camp: He blamed himself for not being able to better protect Kota, then for getting injured, then (like Kirishima and Todoroki) blamed himself for not being able to save Bakugo from being kidnapped. This leeds to.... -The Kamino Incident: Both Midoriya and Bakugo (to a gigantic extent in his case) basically both gaslit themselves into thinking they were the sole reason AM could never use OFA again. (Although I'm pretty sure Bakugo expected Deku to think this of himself, while Deku was shocked to find out Bakugo was blaming himself like he was doing.) (More to follow. End Part 1)
(Part 2) -Overhaul: Both Midoriya and Mirio blamed themselves for not being able to rescue Eri sooner from Overhaul. Midoriya then criticized himself for not being strong enough to take down Overhaul on him own and needing Eri's help. And it obvious he blamed himself for not being able to save Sir Nighteye. (-Second Film/Nine: He criticized and blamed himself for not being strong enough again, and apologized for how he and Bakugo dealt with the films main villain. (Not spoiling.) -War arc: Well, as we can see, he basically blamed himself for everything bad that happened during the war, and for not being able to save absolutely everyone (and without any injuries). Not to mention that he sometimes refer to himself as useless and worthless when things don't go as he hoped or starts to look bad. We're seeing the results of all that doubting himself on full display in these recent chapters. And that it's part of the reason he's on this "dark" path to his possible doom.
@@wanna-be-thinker2377 Interesting pattern. This amount of blame that Izuku places on himself could easily be a form of victim-blaming attitude that can be found in children that come from abusive households. This isn't to say that Inko Midoriya is a bad mother to Izuku, but over the years we've been beginning to see in superhero cartoons like Miraculous Ladybug that abusive relationships aren't as obvious as we've been lead to believe (as seen with the Shimura Household in Tenko's flashback). And in hindsight Inko's antics, words and behaviour that she expresses when around Izuku would easily be subconsciously absorbed into his brain since he was five. Combined and perpetuated with Hero's society's attitude to genetic superiority of people with flashy quirks, and Izuku's underlying and untreated autism and other mental disorders, this results in Izuku's lack of self-worth due to facing prejudice for the uncontrollable factor of his DNA, self-blaming attitude and his reckless foolhardy nature/desire to save everyone. With the inheritance of OFA, Izuku's issues are slowly being drawn into the light, spurring his desperate drive to prove that he is a hero worthy of handling the near-godlike power that has been given to him, and subconsciously that he is not a useless person to the society that he feels still looks down on him. No matter the toll. No matter the cost. And as Konrad Curze stated before his death in 40k, 'Death is nothing compared to vindication'. If Deku is to change into becoming the hero he narrates himself as, then he'll need to realise that that before he can save everyone, he has to save himself first.
Seeing all of this has brought me to several realizations. Yes, it's good to help people. It's good to be willing to act selflessly. But there's a limit. There are some things that can't be done alone. In that case, it's okay to accept help from others, especially if they offer their help.
You know for years I couldn’t help but compare Deku to Shirou Emiya even though it always felt a little strange. With the newest content of MHA I’m seeing it maybe wasn’t that strange
GOD. I've been trying to tell people this has always been deku instead of "just being a crybaby" It's just he FINALLY has a chance to "Show the world he is here" I swear people that think this is a dramatic, MAJOR change in who he is been reading with their eyes closed. No one said ANYTHING about him crying against Class 1-A all of a sudden. Because they can see physical change they don't have to look deep for the change. Some people will only see what you shove into their face.
As Bakugou said, these are the same self sacrificial tendencies that All Might also exhibited during as the symbol of piece and eventually led to his downfall. An excellent example of this would be when All Might pushed away Nighteye and continued to carry the burden of the world alone which only resulted in him never speaking to Nighteye again until he was on his deathbed. This shows that throughout the show it has been secretly hinted that these traits could actually be very negative. Deku hasn't changed. But now that his world has shifted and he has a larger burden and responsbility upon him, he is under stress. He has witnessed several people who he had said he'd protect suffer under AFOs hands during the war arc. Not only is he stressed but he is also fearful, not for the sake of himself but for the sake of others. He knows now that anyone near him will also be at risk for harm so he feels the only way to keep others save is if he pushes them away. He is overwhelmed and tired but yet he refuses to accept that he in his eyes that would mean he can no longer protect anyone. However now that he is facing Class 1A I know they'll help him realize that he isn't going to be able to face AFO or save anyone if he can't even accept help for himself. Because we've seen time to time that one person alone isn't enough to carry the whole world.
I think that deku's self-sacrificing nature has the potential to take the series into a very interesting direction. This is a direction i find incredibly unlikely to happen due to the fact that MHA is a shonen, but its fun to consider. The narrative shows that Deku's nature is incredibly unhealthy and self-degrading. But the narrative has also gone to great lengths to make the antagonistic forces extremely overpowered to the point that they cannot be defeated without Deku being fully willing die in order to take them down. Essentially I would like Deku's mindset to shift slightly to realize the importance of his role in taking down AFO and Shigaraki. His self-sacrifical nature wouldn't go away, but he would be willing to preserve his life until the final battle. Then as the final battle ensues and Deku is beaten near death, we could then have the turn of events where Shigaraki finally comes to a realization and fully turns on All For One, and he is willing to work with Deku in order to kill him. In the end they are just barely able to kill him, and they have a Naruto and Sasuke type discussion as they bleed out airing their grievances and finding some semblance of respect and understanding for each other, at which point Deku would have achieved his goal of "Saving" Shigaraki. Unlike Naruto and Sasuke however, they both end up dieing before they can be treated. Deku would then live on as the "Worlds Greatest Hero" Immortalized in the hearts of all the people and inspiring future generations of heroes for centuries to come. And in turn, the horrible actions and the sacrifice of Shigaraki will allow the world to finally come together to discuss the flaws of hero society and the discrimination of individuals based on their quirks. This would also poetically end the centuries of war between One For All and All For One from the world forever. One For All was born form All For One, and it will die with it. This it would also resonate with Stain's words about true heroes being willing to die to protect people. The actual ending to the story probably wont be nearly this dark, but I would like the necessity of Deku's nature to be addressed at some point.
imo deku stopped developing after the tournament. he's still doing the same thing he has been at the start. he's so boring. not fun to watch his growth, because it feels undeserved, hamfisted in. easily one of the weakest modern protagonist, his morals haven't changed, what he fights for isn't compelling, he fights for his dream, not others. himself. he wants to be a hero, that's why he does the things he does. it's not natural, he learned it from somewhere, and he's emulating the most popular man on the planet. Ichigo fights to protect those he cares about as a coping mechanism for not being able to protect his mother, Luffy fights for freedom, wanting to be the freest man on the seas, nothing chaining him down. Naruto fights for recognition, respect, and to protect the village and the people he'd grown to care for. Even Goku, the most selfish shounen protagonist out there, who only fights to test himself against the best, is more enjoyable to watch for me, because he's still growing, you can see his outlook on things still changing, even now. You may think I'm contradicting myself, mentioning Goku, whenever he's just searching for that which lies beyond strength, but Goku has learned that getting stronger isn't just about him, that power isn't something that can be gained by fighting alone. Deku hasn't had a profound moment like that. Yes he's failed, struggled, but he's never had his entire point of view changed in an arc, his dream challenged. He still wants to be All Might, and that's boring. The supporting cast has had more development than Deku. Bakugo's being the most staggering, after that last chapter. Just my thoughts on this series, I don't like it much at all, but I've decided to see it to the end.
I feel like there has always been an undercurrent of tragedy in both Deku and All Might’s attitudes towards heroism and themselves. The All Might rising OVA has one of my favourite moments that isn’t even in the manga as far as I’m aware: Toshinori scowling into a mirror and pushing his mouth into a smile with his fingers. He’s not smiling, he’s wearing a mask that he thinks will reassure others. Deku’s utter lack of self worth is often shown in his most heroic moments - Muscular being an easy example. As he’s about to be crushed he apologises to his mother for the pain his death will cause her - it’s that moment that makes his victory in that fight so cathartic. All along he’s seen himself as expendable and the power of One For All is like a curse that condemns him to a life if struggle and pain - the latest in a line of successors who mostly died horrific deaths at the hands of All For One. When viewed through that lense, All Might passing it to him at the age of 15 can be seen as incredibly cruel. But then again, there is no doubt that the spirit of self sacrifice is an admirable trait, they both need to reconcile it with a sense of self love. Midoriya seems to be on a similar arc to the MCU’s Steve Rogers - hopefully he can find some sense of peace for himself without always feeling like he’s got to jump on that grenade every single time.
So I agree that he has always been altruistic to a self destructive fault but part of his change that I think you overlooked (or didn’t mention) is his refusal to accept help from others. He would never shy away from asking for help before however, I do think given the circumstances and who he is as a character this change makes sense for him to go through. That is the aspect of him I’ve seen change, because this change is in alignment with his desire to save people and not worry those who care about him. But everything else I agree with
The thing is the reluctance to ask for help is something I highlighted in the video and he does it several times He rushes to save ballgown ALONE Rushes to save ida ALONE Fights off shigaraki in the air ALONE Several occasions of Deku simply refusing to think about others and how they feel about his sacrificing himself
@@BrokenRonin Ida was due to the circumstances and he would’ve ran away with him if Native wasn’t there. He also adapted his strategy when Todoroki came to help and accepted that. The Shigaraki air fight was a situation where he was the only one and that was his role, he didn’t refuse help. Ballgown? I am guessing that is an autocorrect and I believe you mean Bakugo from chapter 1. He ran in by himself but once again, it’s not like it was planned out and others offered to help and he told them no. But in the Bakugo retrieval arc he went with Kirashima, Ida, Todoroki and Momo and made a plan to work with them. You also are ignoring the many more instances where he accepted help and worked together with other students when they were available; the USJ attack, Overhaul (getting help from Eri and just being a part of the team, not rushing ahead alone), all the training he was doing with his classmates to master black whip, etc…. The examples you brought up were more situational in situations where help wasn’t an option as opposed to him refusing help. Reluctance to ask isn’t the same as refusal, which is what he is doing in the story now. He ran away to keep himself separate from others, he pushed All Might away. That isn’t reluctance, that is refusal. Now, like I said, I agree with you, it is in line with with his character and it isn’t a departure from who he is
It’s more of deku’s outlook on the hero society and one of my faveorite quotes from deku is that “the world isn’t just black and white there is a hint of grey” It tells that there is always going to be evil in what the people called today as their “heroes” these people are fake and only want in for the money (ochaco she actually needs the money for a good reason and it isn’t her only goal) Deku is slowley becoming more aware of the society he is in, deku in my opinion has a major flaw and that isn’t his reckless behaviour with ofa and stuff It’s his outlook on the hero society, it’s not just heroes vs villains there are fake heroes and villains who aspired to become heroes but society shut them out as outcasts… Horikoshi knows what he’s doing and I love it, Deku is an in-depth character to study on and at first when I saw him he was your generic happy go lucky dude Then into the manga his idealism and outlook on the hero society have been broken and reshaped to such a point that it’s hurting people around him Anyways that’s enough I could go on for a longer time but that’s all I really wanted to do.
You have no idea how much I agree with this. While I did find his initial character interesting and at times I must admit he had good moments, for a long time he had remained relatively the same. If I had to say the last time he had substantial character development, (other than the current arc so far) was when he told his mom that he didn’t have to go to UA. One of my biggest issues with his character was that he wasn’t actually challenged. In the beginning I always thought I would’ve loved his character more if he had taken a moment to appreciate finally having a quirk, that he could finally become a hero. But he immediately goes straight to training, and wanting to meet expectations. He is still young so I thought he would’ve done a few things that would’ve matched the mindset of someone his age. Even then, just taking a moment to appreciate how excited and happy you are is just a universal thing. I was extremely worried about his character in the finale of the War arc. To that point Midoriya has never genuinely been challenged in the sense that his principals and beliefs are challenged. Most of his problems could’ve been dealt with force and optimistic thinking, but never once has it really been something he thought deeply of. When he thought about wanting to save Shigaraki, I was honestly scared. It just showed how little his character has changed in some aspects, he wants to save everyone but even wants to instinctively save the person who has killed countless people? It would’ve been much more interesting if we saw Midoriya really think about wanting to save Shigaraki, questioning himself and even doubting his beliefs at moments. All so we could see his resolve in their final fight. Whether he chooses to save Shigaraki or even kill him. I get the whole “saving people” thing is Midoriya’s character, but that isn’t my issue. In fact there’s nothing wrong with that at all. The only issue with it would be if that mindset stayed the same throughout the series. If Midoriya WILLINGLY chooses to save Shigaraki despite all that he’s done, that would speak volumes about his character and development. He wants to save people, even the unsavable, or at least try. That would be FAR better than if he wanted to save Shigaraki on instinct, just because he wants to. While that would still say a lot about Midoriya, it wouldn’t be as impactful. Midoriya has never really faced any dilemmas to his core character, and that was his problem. That’s why I really enjoyed Shigaraki character development. To summarize, in a single arc, Shigaraki’s character is completely unraveled to reveal his core character and desire, instead of finding any reason to justify his actions, he decides to follow his instincts without thinking about anything else. To become what he wants in its purest form, destruction. Now you may say that’s hypocritical, but the point here is that Shigaraki does the COMPLETE opposite of Midoriya. He starts off as a villain with some grand vision, progressively grows as a villain to justify his actions, and then realizing that his “vision” is just an excuse to hide his true, instinctual, and “pure” desire, to destroy. Midoriya starts off with that “purity”, to save, and up until now that hasn’t changed not been challenged. All that has really changed about Midoriya is his ability to save. In that aspect, Midoriya has remained fundamentally the same.
Deku really haven't exactly changed. I didn't have to watch the video to know that. He seems different on the outside, but he's the same person. Most people like myself thinks as it what if Deku becomes stressed out or something of the sort. The deku we see in the manga is the results of that question.
Thank you for speaking my mind for me Deku in his core didn’t change the foundation of his character didn’t change from the the beginning of the manga he matured not only as hero but as person he now have more self respect and confidence on him self but his kindness, selflessness and heroic nature still the same . but there are still changing in deku he is starting to lose his innocence and what I mean by that is he started to see the world not as black and white but gray and the Society is not as good as it appears he’s facing the reality in the worst way possible remember that what is happening now is in span of months or maybe weeks after the war he didn’t have the time heal mentally from a war A W A R he’s a 16yr old who Baer a responsibility bigger than any adult can handle He is the last holder of OFA (knowing deku he doesn’t want any one to bear this responsibility instead of him he’s just too kind)and is exciting alone cannot kill or hurt people around him and because of his weakness people who he loves and care got hurt because of him so naturally if he isn’t around him the will not suffer he is probably thinking ( it’s fine if I am the only one suffering as long as nobody is suffering)
Ever since chapter 1 Deku has always thrown himself into dangerous situations, willing to sacrifice e himself to save others. This mindset has always been toxic and it has slowly gotten worse over the years. It has gotten to the point where Deku is destroying himself physically, Psychologically and emotionally. On a subconscious level Deku has loads of self esteem issues. He was bullied by Bakugo when he was quirkless and I think this made Deku believe that he needs to prove himself constantly to everyone including himself.
But the self-sacrifice leads to another question: what happens to the people who knew the hero after he is dead, and how do they react? It certainly won't be a completley joyful celebration of victory, sort of like the dark knight rises.
Yea it was just the good and bad things of what a person being selfless is This is the madness night eye said We just got used to it in other shows and stories that selflessness is a positive thing or what makes the Mc powerfull But there are some that shows how selflessness can be self destruction
I gave some similar replies to posts on reddit but people were quick to dismiss me, Bakugo fans especially. Deku, for all his life by society & his so called friends up until maybe U.A. always made him believe that he was worthless & no one would care if he died, Bakugo even said why don't you jump off the roof (seriously) in the beginning of series to him. Even in Entrence exam other than Uraraka who treated him as a human, other discarded him as worthless, Ilda & all of 1A until he proved his worth by saving them multiple times (by destroying himself), He want to save everyone but doesn't count himself in that "everyone" His self worth is beneath everyone, even the dogs & cats 😂. I don't think Deku has ever cried or got angry for himself in the whole series. He gets angry for his "friends" cries for people who are hurt but not for himself. I really think Deku's self image is broken to the point of no return, say even if 1A stopped him from doing this, he'll do it cause "they are worried & they are hurting" Unless he cares about himself & gets angry at the society for himself there is no meaning to stop him. The day when Deku will beat the crap out of Bakugo not to save Bakugo but to pay him back for the bullying of all those years, this will be fixed.
I like deku as a protagonist but as a character he was just very uninteresting. Idky but I couldn’t really think of a reason to like deku except for the fact that he was the main character. But the recent chapters have shown his true nature, and heroism which makes him seem a lot more intriguing.
This actually fits his character in a way: he is(was at least) described as plain looking and, if you looked at him before OfA making him get other quirks besides the stockpiled strength, he was just some hero kid with super strength that could break his bones. Current Midoriya has his hands full and is mentally (and probably physically) exhausted with everything he has/is being put on the line. Can't wait to see how Horikoshi writes the next chapters
He's literally just having a mental breakdown and people are really out here like "baDaSS, hE COULD deMOlIsH cLAss 1-A." Now, I am *NOT* saying that the people saying that are glorifying a mental breakdown, they're just misunderstanding the situation. He's the same kid that is selfless to a fault, desperately trying to help everybody as quickly and perfectly as possible.
I think Izuku is a reactionary character, while also being a character who is somewhat undergoing a flat character arc; someone who doesn't change throughout the story. He has always been altruistic, that hasn't change and will never change. Even when he was Quirkless, Izuku was always this way. I.E. saving Bakugou from the sludge monster. However, if that sludge monster would have never appeared, if Izuku would have never reacted, he would have never had the chance to become a hero.
A lot of people will probably hate this comparison but What Deku is going through her is pretty similar to Eren. A lot of people think Eren did a 180 around Marley but I will just say remember Eren as a child murdered people in order to save Mikasa, they boy was always sorta messed up and didn't consider people he felt were in the wrong to not even be humans, having no qualms on killing them off. Similar to that as you already mentioned Deku has always been that self-sacrifical maniac. A lot people forget that he has broken the law to save someone 3 times already. What Deku did during Stain and Kamino was Vigilantism. But his altruistic nature has always been shown as a positive but even before people like Aizawa and Inko have pointed out its not fully healthy. What I love about this arc and Deku as a character as a whole is it is showing how even something thought to be one of the noblest qualities like selflessness can be detrimental on a very high scale. I actually want Deku to tell his classmates how they have always actually praised him for being heroic for doing this exact thing.
Ok so this isn't a big deal but character development is different from progression. Progression means that the character is changing, development is how fleshed out the character is. A good character doesn't have to change, just be well explained (has development).
I should argue that Deku has changed. Horikoshi has written Deku as an empath. It’s what makes him cry in response to other people’s relief, their sadness, concerns, when he himself doesn’t have to. It’s the source of his selflessness. But what happens when that state gets exhausted? Exhausted empathy is when an empath takes on so much emotion that they lose a lot of their ability to emote, because they can’t tell the difference between their own emotion and others. Thus the dead eyes. It’s all pent up so much he can’t feel. And when someone falls in that state, they can’t pull themselves out. It is up to those around him to unwind the tangled ball of emotions they carry. And once it’s all released, that is when the exhausted empath is healed. The problem is VERY few can reach the ear of an exhausted empath. It has to be someone they trust FULLY. Someone they are comfortable with. Or in Deku’s case, someone he DOES NOT have to prove himself to. And there is ONLY one character that is in that position. Uraraka. Deku has had to prove himself to literally EVERY character in the whole damn show who he is with OFA usage. Except her. She didn’t need it, and even when she saw it in action it changed nothing. Even maxed out. Uraraka JUST successfully saved him. She needs to unwind him but she is FINALLY getting him crying healthily again. So he’s emoting. This is so good.
Considering the latest chapter’s final panel and sentence, that small little hope may unfortunately fizzle out. It kind of needs to seeing as this is going along too fast
@@jeffreyali1456 sheesh it’s been a while! Who knew Plot Armor on break would damper our conversation so much! We both know the villains have to keep him on his toes. But what’s important is Deku will be able to emotionally handle the stress with his friends. It’s more and more likely Stain is with All-Might. And in order for them to agree to work with a serial murderer, they need to be VERY desperate. So we know the villains will attack soon. And we’ve floated MANY ideas. It’s time for the traitor to appear the more I think about it. The kids need fully mastered quirks to stand a chance against the might of AFO AND Shigaraki no 2 ways about it. And we both know that this stop at UA is nothing but a simple pitstop. You don’t need to worry about Deku going back to being full smiley again. He HAS to stay focused on the mission and NOT be in constant emotional turmoil.
@@Kaempfdog I heard that plot armor got copyrighted for some reason. Here’s hoping that they fix whatever problems they have. We’ll hopefully find more places to chat. I’ve been saying that for a while that while the class could help deku out, about a handful could help him while the rest may end up getting hurt far worse which was something Izuku wanted to avoid. They ALL need to have a complete training to do a quirk awakening like Bakugo. Izuku from 306 to 316 showed the best change for him so as long as he keeps that development like that with his friends after going through training then we’re good. That traitor is definitely gonna show up. AFO had to have planned all of this to make sure everything falls in place so the traitor feeding critical info now would be the best time to appear. The last sentence ends with “the rain still pours” which indicates that something devastating is gonna happen and knowing AFO, something is gonna happen to break Izuku even if his friends and family are there, he may end up killing civilians in UA or AM but one way or another, Izuku and UA are just only in the start of the storm. And we’re still in the beginning of the final act so expect to see a lot more painful moments. Just don’t kill off Izuku’s mom cause THAT would be too much for me lol
@@jeffreyali1456 I watch mangavation and mighty gazelle too for manga reviews. They are currently not on strike. (And yes I do know Plot Armor got copyrighted, but I know they’ve dealt with it before so I know they’ll be ok.) What do you mean he needs to keep that development? He’s going to have war flashbacks and night terrors from this last mission too with the whole mansion explosion even if he’s emotionally stable once more. Accidentally killing someone would be a bit too much for Deku. But witnessing someone else get killed would DEFINITELY scare the daylights out of him proper. All-Might is going to be killed by AFO. I just can’t see any other way. I see one last conflict. And I don’t think it’s time for that yet. But I do see it happening. Both Shigaraki and Deku will be masterless at one point in this show as they are opponents built to fight. And that stands to reason the masters will fight again. What my focus is on, is Stain’s motive. He WANTED this. So I’ve been thinking about his narrative and that’s why I keep thinking he’s going to teach the kids.
@@Kaempfdog looking at it now, it just seems to me that he’ll go back to the way he usually is. I’m hoping to god I’m wrong though. I also doubt that Deku is gonna kill someone accidentally, but someone dying in front of him and his friends? That’s gonna break them down
i liked the video but that last part ... idk kinda sounds condescending? Well to me at least. the part when you were talking about people hearing the other side of an arguement. I know you werent trying to be rude to the people you were talking about and just gave like, a verbal backhand to the passionate fans you were talking about at the start of the video. Listening out people is a pretty necessary skill to have to be sure but when you said the thing about pat yourself on the back kinda felt like a jab at both sets of people? idk its probably just me
I think people are mistaken most of the time when thinking about development take goku for instance He's a silly playful character that never really changes but he can still have development and knows when to get serious.
"Deku hasn't changed, everything else has."
This the perfect quote.
What will happen next? nothing lol
This doesn't mean that a character can't evolve or develop, and deku hasn't which looks like lazy writing to me.
@@TheShitpostExperience Deku has Chara develop
@@TheShitpostExperience I think his character or more so his outlook on certain things like villainy with the world of mha. What the video itself it mostly about is that deku at his core is still the same deku and his main traits are still there.
@@TheShitpostExperience his character has developed sounds like a lazy reader/watcher to me.
🔥🔥🔥
Waiting for Deku to have a breakdown moment like Bakugo did and laying out all of his pent up emotions.

"Don't be the unuseful Deku"
If you recognize this, you will see patterns.
@@Spaceperson-xx8de Yes, because you don't take count of the opinions of others. Saying "I will be the one doing this"
It's why I love My Hero Academia, Horikoshi gave us an illusion of what was "the perfect hero" and these Heroes (AM and Deku) are toxic persons. That's amazing.
@@MpanzuELWik they're toxic cause they wanna be useful or feel like they matter? ookay

@@MpanzuELWik he does understand. Lol you’re the only one acting like you’re the only one who gleams different aspects of mha and that yours is the only answer. Lol the perfect person bit is true.

I think he is better now because the Newer arc gives his character much more needed Characterization I like him much more now that we have more information on what kind of person he is. Atleast for me although his new design looks sick.
By the way I am just kidding lmao
I’m so glad Horikoshi decided to go this route and show how Izukus (and all mights) heroic mindset is actually super dangerous
He has been sharing his burdens with the pros, before 316 screws him up.
As Miles Morales said "I'm taking on a lot more responsibility than I can handle" That's how I see current Izuku. The weight of One For All and being All Might's successor was already there, but the war and All For One targeting him defiantly took a huge toll on his mental health

Erens ideology has always been freedom for himself and ultimately his friends. i’ve been saying this forever. i responded to somebody’s video not too long ago and said that dekus character itself never changed and everything he does is rooted and protecting the people around him and becoming a hero as it always was and they were just like nah 😕
His outlook on the world changed nad he stopped being naïve as before.

Joint Training Arc: Treats himself as the bait for Team Monoma
War Arc: Is used as bait by Bakugo
He definitely has a very selfless nature, to a degree which makes it overly detrimental to himself
Personality changes: hi
Deku: GET AWAY FROM ME
Deku has changed and developed clearly as a person while still keeping his same ideals and still being the same person.
@Arielle Davis that didn’t age well
While I do think the eren comparison are funny deku pretty much never changed.

Love this insight.

"I can't let All For One take you all way from me!"
To anyone keep saying Deku went full Eren or Sasuke, this line shows Deku isn't being reckless due to angst or rage, he's motivated by fear and despair, he has not changed, he just developed
New ronin upload, we eating good
Deku hasn't really changed, he's just put in a situation that pushes his abilities and ideals to the absolute limit.

You didn't change my opinion on Deku, because I already agreed with everything you said!
Deku has always been like this cause he did the same thing in the sports festival, by destroying his body to just help someone just a bit

well people compare anything to aot so yeah 🤷🏽
Yeah, it shouldn't make me as angry as it does. It's such a bad comparison.
Both are completely different characters and extremely good ones
He’s changed and yet stayed the same. He’s more mature, more serious, he’s building up his iron will and yet he’s still doing his best to save people while now also wanting to help villains. Which is why it’s pretty dumb for that new development to just start and end in less than 19 chapters. I’m only hoping to God that something devastating happens in the next arc cause this entire thing can’t just go without consequences
THANK YOU as a big MHA fan it drives me crazy when people said Midroya changed.

(Let me know if I miss any.)
-The Sludge Monster: While All Might blamed himself for being careless and let him escape, and Bakugo (as we find out much much later) blamed himself for being too "weak" to beat him and being caught off guard, Midoriya briefly blamed himself distracting AM and CAUSING the TSM to escape thus causing Bakugo to get captured by him.
-The Hosu Incident/Stain: Midoriya blamed himself for not doing more for Iida and not stopping him before he went after Stain (even though there was nothing I can see that he could do to stop it).
(-The first film: Before AM showed up during the climax, Midoriya started blaming himself not being good enough/strong enough to stop the films main bad guy.)
-Training Camp: He blamed himself for not being able to better protect Kota, then for getting injured, then (like Kirishima and Todoroki) blamed himself for not being able to save Bakugo from being kidnapped. This leeds to....
-The Kamino Incident: Both Midoriya and Bakugo (to a gigantic extent in his case) basically both gaslit themselves into thinking they were the sole reason AM could never use OFA again. (Although I'm pretty sure Bakugo expected Deku to think this of himself, while Deku was shocked to find out Bakugo was blaming himself like he was doing.)
(More to follow. End Part 1)
(Part 2)
-Overhaul: Both Midoriya and Mirio blamed themselves for not being able to rescue Eri sooner from Overhaul.
(Not spoiling.)
-War arc: Well, as we can see, he basically blamed himself for everything bad that happened during the war, and for not being able to save absolutely everyone (and without any injuries).
Hope this video blows up. It makes sense. Eren never changed either
Weeb
I've been waiting for you to do this video
FACTS BRO!!!!!!
I love the thumbnail you are the goat
I’m so glad someone finally said this…really, this doesn’t just apply to Izuku, but to a lot of aspects of MHA. Phenomenal video, man.
He didn't change, but my boy is doing what he has to do even if he doesn't like it, its part of growing up
As Bakugou said, these are the same self sacrificial tendencies that All Might also exhibited during as the symbol of piece and eventually led to his downfall.
Honestly i like this. I thought the perfect ending would be Deku dying after beating AFO.
I was just having an argument about this and then 10 minutes later this video drops 😂, thanks bro
Commenting for the algorithm!
imo deku stopped developing after the tournament. he's still doing the same thing he has been at the start. he's so boring. not fun to watch his growth, because it feels undeserved, hamfisted in. easily one of the weakest modern protagonist, his morals haven't changed, what he fights for isn't compelling, he fights for his dream, not others. himself. he wants to be a hero, that's why he does the things he does. it's not natural, he learned it from somewhere, and he's emulating the most popular man on the planet.
THANK YOUUUUU I’VE BEEN SAYING😭😭
this man should fr start a podcast
Deku is going through deconstruction and his arc isn't over yet.
I do love how his attire has changed though looking more darker and Spawn like
I feel like there has always been an undercurrent of tragedy in both Deku and All Might’s attitudes towards heroism and themselves.
Midoriya seems to be on a similar arc to the MCU’s Steve Rogers - hopefully he can find some sense of peace for himself without always feeling like he’s got to jump on that grenade every single time.
at 1:51, what is this picture from?
I really liked this argument and viewpoint and I actually agree with this
So I agree that he has always been altruistic to a self destructive fault but part of his change that I think you overlooked (or didn’t mention) is his refusal to accept help from others. He would never shy away from asking for help before however, I do think given the circumstances and who he is as a character this change makes sense for him to go through. That is the aspect of him I’ve seen change, because this change is in alignment with his desire to save people and not worry those who care about him. But everything else I agree with
The thing is the reluctance to ask for help is something I highlighted in the video and he does it several times
He rushes to save ballgown ALONE
Rushes to save ida ALONE
Fights off shigaraki in the air ALONE
Several occasions of Deku simply refusing to think about others and how they feel about his sacrificing himself
Now, like I said, I agree with you, it is in line with with his character and it isn’t a departure from who he is
It’s more of deku’s outlook on the hero society and one of my faveorite quotes from deku is that “the world isn’t just black and white there is a hint of grey”
It tells that there is always going to be evil in what the people called today as their “heroes” these people are fake and only want in for the money (ochaco she actually needs the money for a good reason and it isn’t her only goal)
Deku is slowley becoming more aware of the society he is in, deku in my opinion has a major flaw and that isn’t his reckless behaviour with ofa and stuff
It’s his outlook on the hero society, it’s not just heroes vs villains there are fake heroes and villains who aspired to become heroes but society shut them out as outcasts…
Horikoshi knows what he’s doing and I love it, Deku is an in-depth character to study on and at first when I saw him he was your generic happy go lucky dude
Then into the manga his idealism and outlook on the hero society have been broken and reshaped to such a point that it’s hurting people around him
Anyways that’s enough I could go on for a longer time but that’s all I really wanted to do.
You’ve helped to change my views on Deku.
You good sir, are an intellectual, and I tip my hat to you and bid you good day 🧐
Deku really haven't exactly changed. I didn't have to watch the video to know that. He seems different on the outside, but he's the same person. Most people like myself thinks as it what if Deku becomes stressed out or something of the sort. The deku we see in the manga is the results of that question.
Another great video!
Thank you for speaking my mind for me
Deku in his core didn’t change the foundation of his character didn’t change from the the beginning of the manga he matured not only as hero but as person he now have more self respect and confidence on him self but his kindness, selflessness and heroic nature still the same .
but there are still changing in deku he is starting to lose his innocence and what I mean by that is he started to see the world not as black and white but gray and the Society is not as good as it appears he’s facing the reality in the worst way possible
remember that what is happening now is in span of months or maybe weeks after the war he didn’t have the time heal mentally from a war A W A R he’s a 16yr old who Baer a responsibility bigger than any adult can handle
He is the last holder of OFA (knowing deku he doesn’t want any one to bear this responsibility instead of him he’s just too kind)and is exciting alone cannot kill or hurt people around him and because of his weakness people who he loves and care got hurt because of him so naturally if he isn’t around him the will not suffer
he is probably thinking ( it’s fine if I am the only one suffering as long as nobody is suffering)
Saw your Twitter; happy birthday 🎊
Ever since chapter 1 Deku has always thrown himself into dangerous situations, willing to sacrifice e himself to save others. This mindset has always been toxic and it has slowly gotten worse over the years. It has gotten to the point where Deku is destroying himself physically, Psychologically and emotionally. On a subconscious level Deku has loads of self esteem issues. He was bullied by Bakugo when he was quirkless and I think this made Deku believe that he needs to prove himself constantly to everyone including himself.
I have to wonder what Bakugo will have to do to repair the damage he had done to Midoriya?
It really isn’t toxic, self sacrifice for the sake of others is the mark of a good hero.
But the self-sacrifice leads to another question: what happens to the people who knew the hero after he is dead, and how do they react?
It certainly won't be a completley joyful celebration of victory, sort of like the dark knight rises.
Great video ! You got a new sub !!
Deku has certainly grown but he has not changed in his core
Yea it was just the good and bad things of what a person being selfless is
This is the madness night eye said
We just got used to it in other shows and stories that selflessness is a positive thing or what makes the Mc powerfull
But there are some that shows how selflessness can be self destruction
Not weak just more motivated
I have been waiting for this video
If My hero ever did a What If series like Marvel, There should be a version where Deku doesn't meet Almight, and he goes on to become a vigilante.
Fire thumbnail
I been saying 😭 everything he did and was as a person led up to this!
exactly my thoughts bro
Good vid but what happen to all the vids we asked for on the creator comments lol
Even in Entrence exam other than Uraraka who treated him as a human, other discarded him as worthless, Ilda & all of 1A until he proved his worth by saving them multiple times (by destroying himself), He want to save everyone but doesn't count himself in that "everyone"
His self worth is beneath everyone, even the dogs & cats 😂.
Yessss finally someone understands
I think I really like this arc not because deku has changed but that he’ll have to change going forward.
Horikoshi is a great writer to be able to redeem a character like Bakugou
This guy is literally the comic book guy from the Simpson’s no cap
So he has a flat character arc he changes the people around him for good or bad yet he doesn't develop
How could I have look past this fact
Now rewatch season 2 finale and realise it’s importance for the las test chapters and future ;)
(And yes I do know Plot Armor got copyrighted, but I know they’ve dealt with it before so I know they’ll be ok.)
What do you mean he needs to keep that development?
That’s gonna break them down
this man underrated asf
You could say the same thing about Eren. He hasn't changed, everything else has.
I noticed 2 previous wielders of ofa that looked ominous but, they were heroes. People are reaching with the midoriya turning villainous narrative.
i liked the video but that last part ... idk kinda sounds condescending? Well to me at least. the part when you were talking about people hearing the other side of an arguement.
I know you werent trying to be rude to the people you were talking about and just gave like, a verbal backhand to the passionate fans you were talking about at the start of the video.
Listening out people is a pretty necessary skill to have to be sure but when you said the thing about pat yourself on the back kinda felt like a jab at both sets of people? idk its probably just me
I think people are mistaken most of the time when thinking about development take goku for instance He's a silly playful character that never really changes but he can still have development and knows when to get serious.
From a hero to anti hero mmmmm
