From an Australian upbringing and a New Zealander background, the form is correct for the START of the tackle, but when he hits the other players abdomen there should be more of a hit with the shoulder, slide down the the thighs, the head lowered with the side of the head on the hip and then a strong upward or sideways push to bring the player hard to the ground and back a few feet as well. Also, Rugby was the original game the big hit and put onto his butt AND dragging the player down is rugby
The foundations of the tackle technique was covered which I agree with. Maybe could've explained where the eyes should be looking at, which is the core. Once the punch comes from the arms its important to lock your hands together and squeeze. A demonstration from a lower body position would have been good. Last thing you need is good foot work! Tracking is only half the battle, good feet allows you to get inside quick closing the space not giving the attacker time to react. Go USA :) NZ coach
@bughsoftheworld im american and play rugby, but foremost im a wrestler. proper tackling technique is alot like a double leg lift takedown, at least thats what i feel like. thats why i use my country of heritage, ireland, when introducing myself to foreign ruggers lol
the realistic practice thing is stupid, poor lock around the waist, no drive, no resistance from the opposing player. also, it's not realistic to pick up the ball, it's much more realistic to ruck over or step to the side for the big boys to ruck over, depending on your position.
Incorrect tackling is one of the main reasons why America always does so terribly in the rugby world cup, but tackling is also reflected badly in Football too, I don't know the rules, but whenever one of the players runs with the ball, he gets at least 30 feet and has simply run past 3 guys who couldn't tackle at all and slipped right off him, I watch it and think to the first tackler, "mate, you should have come up and had him way back there" You have to admit, American tackling styles are crap
This is terrible. I get proper decent coaching, not some shit online coaching from a company that's from a country that doesn't even play rugby. And WTF? That guy was hugging the player. If you want to tackle someone, you tackle them round the legs-Low down

This is literally identical to how USA Football said to tackle, nowhere near any decent rugby tackling technique
