She was alright even in the original. Emotion was displayed quite well through the facial animations. This time the lighting on the skin simply looks better making the model look less like plastic or cartoon. The change I actually wanted, was so they would make Aloy's model more like the actual real live model she was based on. She still has the chubby look and Bruce Willis jawline. She looks nothing like Ashley Burch who is both the mo-cap and VA for Aloy. Aside from that the game looks absolutely amazing....10/10 for how good it looks over the original which already looked better than most games anyway.
@@MrMarvel0521 Correction: She looks nothing like Hannah Hoekstra who is the face model for Aloy. Because of the game embellishments through the art direction and a bit of the game narrative, Aloy has always looked like a relative of the actual face model, but never an gamified version of the real life person. This is due to the artist blending Hannah's facial features with the Elizabet Sobek character model. Because Aloy is a clone, she is supposed to look like a young Elizabet and the face model was chosen because she shares the same facial structure as the Elizabet model. The Elizabet model is a drawing from the art team and therefore there is no real person to which you can compare her in game model to. When the game was being made they searched for a model who looked like she can be the younger daughter of Elizabet and then merged features from that drawing over to the facial scan of Hannah. In the game, they had to give Alloy freckles to match Elizabet's red hair, they also gave her face a bit more color to look like she was exposed to alot more sunlight. The result is a character that has a face model that shares features with her real life model but never looks exactly like her. This is a contrast to say Sylens, who is made to look exactly like Lance Reddick. Or how Tilda in Forbidden West looks exactly like Carrie Ann Moss. Aloy shares a resemblance to her face model but she doesn't look exactly like the real life person.
Waters, hairs, clothes and face details are the most noticeable in my eyes. Facial expressions are way more immersive. Other than those, everything else look good on both versions. It can be argueable that the remastered enviroment, is more " realistic" but this game have a strong art style so, I do not care too much of realism, on games with such beautiful art style.
If I don't look at it side-by-side, I won't really realize any changes while playing it. It's because the original was already so good looking at the time I played it, that playing it now would just give me the similar feeling.
Brother, if you've played the original then you could see the obvious difference when they revealed it. It's like saying forbidden west looks the same as the original. It doesn't, and neither does this.
In this current time point when graphics are unable to achieve generational leap in visual fidelity any sort of graphical upgrades will mean a lot to people who place emphasis on graphical enhancements. In the future when graphics are truly able to achieve generational leap just like the PS1 to PS2 days that is when people will look back at the graphical differences between PS4 and ps5 and laugh at us for wasting so much time defending and singing the praises of graphical advancement right now which is such a joke at the moment. Also one last point before ending this post. The remasters of today always like to mess with the games lighting in it unnecessarily. It totally changes and destroys the mood in a lot of games in the process.
Every generation of people always say the same things as you but the boundary never ceases to expand. There are still two big threshold that haven't been realised yet. True to life graphics and virtual reality that are capable of supporting true to life graphics.

Terrible comparison that doesn't do the remaster justice. The camera is constantly moving, you're only really comparing shots from the starting section of the game, which they put the most detail and work into in the original and you're choosing shots where the changes are barely visible, especially when it comes to the reflections section of your video. And when talking about volumetric lighting, you're literally just showing some random combat. Aloy has become an iconic female character along the ranks of Princess Peach & Princess Zelda....theres something about her that i love.shes down to earth female character who's often been stacked against the odds.
I bought the remaster of Horizon Zero Dawn and it definitely looks better. I mean, the original game already looked good and I have no complaints except for maybe the characters having stiff facial animations. Gladly the remaster takes care of that.
I didn't own the original, I played it though ps plus... I don't remember if frozen wilds was included in the psplus version or if I bought it after loving the game. I would play the remaster version but $50 is a little out of my price range for the updated experience. Maybe $30

Really want to play the remaster but decided to wait a few days more to play on the Pro for the biggest difference between the original and the remaster
5:50 looks like a downgrade to me. Not everything is an upgrade. Saw some other instances where the new one looks worse and bland. I already playes the original but not the DLC, so I might give it a go
I got the original game free from PlayStation network years back as a Christmas gift, i tried it and never fully clicked with it. I got to admit the game looked great. Now im thinking of giving the remaster ago and for £10 thats great, especially for me as i didnt pay for the base game. Now looking back maybe i didnt give the original a good go.
It would be cool if let say.. you earned platinum or 90% of trophies on a game through ps plus...and after the game gets delisted from the psplus library, Sony would give you an exclusive discount to purchase the game. I'm still miffed about not being able to finish Stray before it got booted. Like 2 chapterss left to go on it,$30 is a little steep for me to finish them. I was glad that I finished everything possible in FFXV just days before they removed it for good. I even had a little time left over to play through the dlc episodes, which I did pay for. There are a few games that came and went through ps plus that I would love to pick back up again but I'm not paying retail to do it. Someone forward this comment to Sony's suggestion box.
I never finished it originally, and I never got the DLC, so $10 isn't too bad for my situation. Unfortunately, my backlog is just crazy right now, so it'll have to wait.
Glad they updated the first game. Going from first game into the second game the difference is too much. Now, the 2 games on the same path together.....not looking like they are decade(s) apart. Series (S Tier) is worth the time and effort into updating.
The environments definitely look better, but some of the faces they look more natural in the original. Yes the remastered has higher resolution when it comes to the faces, but it looks more fake. The original faces look more natural with lower resolution. Like here 0:51 it’s no question the right one has higher resolution. But the left one looks more natural and realistic. I’m not saying it is realistic. I’m saying it looks more realistic. 0:51 again here even the cloth shirt she’s wearing looks more detailed and natural in the original. 1:55 here again Rosts face looks more natural and real than remaster. The colors in the remaster here just looks more fake like plastic.
They don't at all. I've played about 4 hours of the remaster on my s90c and the character models look way better than the original. The shitty youtub compression doesn't do it justice at all
TBH I would be down more for a remake that is actually Forbidden West level. Just like Last of Us Part 1 did. Don't get me wrong - I'm playing the remaster now and it's definitely an improvement, but it's just not the level of Forbidden West.
I paid like 20 bucks for the PC version, so I aint see a problem with paying 10 bucks when clearly a lot of work was put on to it... I am not gonna playing it right now though.
This game actually have a problem bigger than whether it need a upgrade or not. This game problem is it told a captivating story and in order to experience the full story telling you need to get a ps5 in order to get the whole story. So if you really want horizon zero dawn you will eventually have no choice but to play all of it on either a pc or a current gen console. Because the third game wont be available on ps4 and also a dlc story is also not available on the ps4 as well too. That is a important consideration for people who care about its story.
Tbh you can find ps5 these days for the price of a original ps4back in the day (350 if not lower)so ...honestly if you can't afford a ps5 now idk what to say
I am saying this game is only complete if you play it on pc or ps5 so you might as well just embrace the remastered version of hzd1regardless you like it or not. Get it? Learn to read before going so personal and negative on people. It reflect on your own upbringing not others in case you are not aware of it.
@@anglo-saxonconnor817 What the fook is this hot take of yours all of a sudden lol? The only one "going so personal and negative on people" is you after that cringe response. Even base PS5 struggles to balance resolution and framerate for FF7R2. PS4 will burn!
It's hard not to notice the original looks better at times. If the graphics were so much better...we wouldn't need a label telling us which is old and new
It would be nice if you could "upgrade" the game on pc to the remastered version if you have the original. I know you can do so on Playstation but sadly I have the game on pc and I bought it like month before the remastered was released.
When I first heard about the remaster, I thought 'meh'. But then i pre-ordered it anyway because I figured $10 is reasonable. The game looks VERY nice. Now I gotta platinum it again. 😂
After playing Forbidden West I can really see the areas this game is lacking; terrible inventory management, having to spend a bunch of skill points only to be able to unequip coils, no transmog, no glider , these are all things that made gameplay a lot more enjoyable in the sequel
Here we can examine the generational leap from the same game on PS4 remastered to a PS5.. and specifically why so many people didn't upgrade from PS4, not because of covid or being broke but because everyone isn't mindlessly following the person in front of them
My thoughts: I'd gladly pay money for it as I'm a great fan of the Horizon story & worldbuilding, but I'm too disgusted by the network account thing to buy.
I know alot of people are mad because this game didnt need an upgrade but you gotta admit it looks pretty dang good. Hard to believe its just a remaster and not a complete remake
Everybody hates on this remaster for $10 but let’s be real the character models and the detail before looked like some porcelain dolls. They definitely look a lot more realistic now and for somebody who’s never beat it or played it before totally worth it over the original. But I totally understand there’s gonna be an audience of people that could care less and that’s fine too, but you can’t hate on the remaster for $10. I mean come on bro it’s $10 people are out here paying 50 bucks for red dead redemption that looks just like the Xbox 360 version on PC and have no complaints about that but they’re gonna complain about this stuff for $10 😂
Sony is creatively bankrupt. Concord is testament. It is in their best interest to remaster/remake ALL of their successful IPs. MedEvil, Shadow of the Colossus, Spyro Trilogy, Crash Trilogy, etc. are testament. They're sitting on pots of gold with Bloodborne.
A complete visual overhaul and some new mocap sounds a lot more expensive than the $15 (CAD) asking price so this was an easy decision to buy it. Pluz ZD is the better, more focused game. FW was so bloated That said, there's a LOT of physics bugs especially during cutscenes
Imagine how much more attention HZD would have gotten if they employed the same jiggly physics from StellarBlade. We'd have StellarBlade fans tripping over themselves.
Tempted but too lazy to play a game I’ve already finished, even with graphical improvements. My games backlog is just too overwhelming on PC, Switch, and PS5
I have played both games and Horizon Forbidden West is a mile better graphics, sharp, and deep saturation of colours. If you want a big upgrade in graphics go for Horizon Forbidden West.
Graphics look better but the dialogues and mouth movement is bad. Hair clipping through npc during cut scenes. And i feel the movement is little sluggish in ps5
We can thank the incels who lost their minds over Abby's muscles the Last of Us 2. While I think Aloy looks better in the remaster I preferred the muscle tone of her original body. It made me more sense for a girl who been physically training in the wilds for years. I hate the fact they nerfed her muscles in Forbidden West yet we saw plenty of Tenakth women who looked pretty toned. I like Guerilla as a games developer but man they need to grow some balls and take a few risks.
Welp, Sony had to ruin it once again with their support for only 73 countires. I have the base game but the digital upgrade is region lock, just like hell divers 2, ghost of tsushima and god of war ragnarok

Played the original on Ps4 using an entry level 4k hdr Sony Bravia and I think it was okay but saturation was so bad. I wanna try this remastered with my LG C2 and see if there's a huge difference tho I think I might need to play it side by side with my old Sony
Is it weird that when I saw the thumbnail, I thought the original image of Alloy was the remastered one?
Really want to play the remaster but decided to wait a few days more to play on the Pro for the biggest difference between the original and the remaster
Aloy looks more muscular in original, notice how the veins on on her arms are missing. 00:50
5:50 looks like a downgrade to me. Not everything is an upgrade. Saw some other instances where the new one looks worse and bland. I already playes the original but not the DLC, so I might give it a go
You will have to make another comparison when testing out the PlayStation 5 Pro Enhanced version.
The shitty youtub compression doesn't do it justice at all
10 percent of a easy time to hit the stuff?
is "the frozen wilds" DLC included this time around as a full package orrr?....eh?
Yes it’s included. Even for people who bought the standard version if they want to upgrade.
TBH I would be down more for a remake that is actually Forbidden West level. Just like Last of Us Part 1 did. Don't get me wrong - I'm playing the remaster now and it's definitely an improvement, but it's just not the level of Forbidden West.
I bought the game back in the day and never played it. I got to upgrade for $10 and I am really enjoying this game 😊
I dont know, I found the first game story much better than the second one. So I am not sure I will like the third game (probably will still play).
Tbh you can find ps5 these days for the price of a original ps4back in the day (350 if not lower)so
...honestly if you can't afford a ps5 now idk what to say
I am saying this game is only complete if you play it on pc or ps5 so you might as well just embrace the remastered version of hzd1regardless you like it or not. Get it? Learn to read before going so personal and negative on people. It reflect on your own upbringing not others in case you are not aware of it.
@@anglo-saxonconnor817 What the fook is this hot take of yours all of a sudden lol? The only one "going so personal and negative on people" is you after that cringe response. You seriously can't expect Final Fantasy VII Rebirth let alone the third part of the game to run even at bare minimum on base PS4.
This is why gaming is in the predicament it's in
wonder how it would perform on the pro
After playing Forbidden West I can really see the areas this game is lacking; terrible inventory management, having to spend a bunch of skill points only to be able to unequip coils, no transmog, no glider , these are all things that made gameplay a lot more enjoyable in the sequel
Did they not update any of the inventory management or anything like that?
Poor review, didn't even touch on the new cutscene animations.
yeah he was too busy acting like WE did the testing when really someone else did it and he's just reading a script FUCK THE POLICE
Here we can examine the generational leap from the same game on PS4 remastered to a PS5.. and specifically why so many people didn't upgrade from PS4, not because of covid or being broke but because everyone isn't mindlessly following the person in front of them
The color is a mor vivid look, not foggy.
My thoughts: I'd gladly pay money for it as I'm a great fan of the Horizon story & worldbuilding, but I'm too disgusted by the network account thing to buy.
Day has come where we need to pay for graphics as well additionally to the game
What about players who bought old game like me..
How about swapping out some of the NPC dialogue? Some of it was horrible. "RED-HAIR DIES NOW!"
No matter how good the upgrade, nothing will ever make us forget the horror of child aloy
The og looks better here. For a remaster it shouldn't even be up for debate. This is like a $10 patch
I know alot of people are mad because this game didnt need an upgrade but you gotta admit it looks pretty dang good. Hard to believe its just a remaster and not a complete remake
The shadow casting is fked up in the new one
Why are you guys testing the remaster on a pc?…
The only thing that needs remastering is Aloy's wooden, emotionless personality.
I mean come on bro it’s $10 people are out here paying 50 bucks for red dead redemption that looks just like the Xbox 360 version on PC and have no complaints about that but they’re gonna complain about this stuff for $10 😂
Why didn't they remaster killzone 2? I don't get it
Did the game need a remaster?.... No
But does it look better?......
Yes, definitely
will play again
i hope her face updated also, like less wide
This already looks great, why not do this to games that need a makeover? Or better yet, make news games instead of rehashing old ones.
Sounds good. As soon as Sony forces the PSN to be removed, I will "remaster" it!
I thought final fantasy 7 rebirth was the pinnacle of detailed clouds
Digital Foundry has a way better video on the same topic. They know what they’re talking about.
I spent $7 dollars on a physical copy of the PS4 version so this was only a $17 game for me
Standard or Complete edition?
@victorvargas9330 Complete Edtion
A complete visual overhaul and some new mocap sounds a lot more expensive than the $15 (CAD) asking price so this was an easy decision to buy it. Pluz ZD is the better, more focused game. FW was so bloated
That said, there's a LOT of physics bugs especially during cutscenes
Imagine how much more attention HZD would have gotten if they employed the same jiggly physics from StellarBlade. We'd have StellarBlade fans tripping over themselves.
Yep this is better than the sequel.
Story wise I do agree ZD is better but quite literally every other aspect of FW was a massive improvement!
While lens flares might look cool, they make no sense! I’d prefer them gone.
Back in 2017 I really liked this game.
However I refuse to buy remasters. The only remaster I would buy is GTA 4.
Tempted but too lazy to play a game I’ve already finished, even with graphical improvements.
My games backlog is just too overwhelming on PC, Switch, and PS5
All I have to say.. youtube Video's don't do the game justice!! The game is super pretty
And i feel the movement is little sluggish in ps5
wow aloy lost a muscle in her arm around 3:50ish
We can thank the incels who lost their minds over Abby's muscles the Last of Us 2. While I think Aloy looks better in the remaster I preferred the muscle tone of her original body. It made me more sense for a girl who been physically training in the wilds for years. I hate the fact they nerfed her muscles in Forbidden West yet we saw plenty of Tenakth women who looked pretty toned. I like Guerilla as a games developer but man they need to grow some balls and take a few risks.
@@JayzVeez pretty sure it's been debunked and it just looks like she's more muscular in the original situationally
Finally finally there is an option to turn off the lense flare
They could have rework that god awful melee combat..
Or make some changes.. But no
I hate how the put a rim light on characters in every cutscene. It makes like zero sense.
Need to see how it looks and runs on PS5 Pro.
Looks pretty good for a $10 upgrade.
I have the complete edition on ps4 I have only 3 hours of the game.
Idk if should spend $10
You mean you would have to start over ?
Do it know if your going to do it . 3 hours is not that bad .
Aloy my Love ❤
This time around
Welp, Sony had to ruin it once again with their support for only 73 countires. I have the base game but the digital upgrade is region lock, just like hell divers 2, ghost of tsushima and god of war ragnarok
