The thing I love most about this game is that it makes you feel like a stranger on your own planet. It feels futuristic but primal in a way that no game has even been able to show me before, truly remarkable, hats off to the devs at Guerrilla Games
I went into the first game with no knowledge of the story. It felt like I was playing on a different planet/universe, then, as you see little clues, you realize that it's our Earth. It's so amazing that they have us rediscovering Earth.
@@Virchew Right?! They did such a good job with the first one and even more so with the second, highly recommend it, the story isn't as good as the first one IMO but that is mainly because I found it too short.
Yes technological robotic dinosaurs and modern buildings in a prehistoric rainforest. Absolutely unique and interesting, very rarely done in a any media as a setting. This one really captivated me, I would love to see more of this.
@@WheeledHamster exactly, it's like nothing I've ever seen before in a videogame. And it can get a little cheesy here and there but I'll forgive them for that
The attention to detail put into these locations by the devs at guerrilla is insane. This game has consistently blew my mind over the past few weeks. The care, the love, and the passion put into every inch of the world is astounding.
I just played through the underwater was vegas part of the story last night. Was absolutely blown away by everything. The environment, the story behind vegas' fall and revival, and the aftermath light show. (And the trio you met at the ruins!) Anyone else really enjoy this part??
Yeah when I saw the guys trying to get under and learned it's filled with water I was so intrigued. Then when I saw all of the buildings underwater I was amazed.
I spent a long time swimming around trying to figure out what to do. Finally had to hit YT to find out to look for the first terminal. Was a cool section though and the breather unlocks a bunch of other stuff so that was also cool.
As an Englishman that didn't realise a very large percentage of these places existed in the real World I definitely appreciate the effort compiling this video. And appreciate even more the effort the devs went to. I've been gaming since I was 11 in 1981, and hand on heart Zero Dawn and Forbidden West are among the best I've ever played, and even more rarely re-played.. Beautiful creations.
The world in this game is so special to me as a European but I can't help but wonder how insane it must be for someone who sees some of these landmarks daily to see them in HFW, absolutely stunning.
I live in Ireland but my girlfriend and like 20 friends live in Las Vegas and one lives in San Francisco. Planning to stay a few months in Vegas later this year since I'm supposed to live with them eventually. It definitely made it more emotional for me "saving" the city even though I've never been there yet xD
As someone who lives in Seattle after playing Infamous Second Son... its pretty much the same. Except instead of police blockades and officers at all the corners, you have BLM and antifa.
I love how Guerrilla has condensed the actual world. It doesn't have the full city of Vegas, San Fran, etc., but having a cluster of landmarks makes it feel like the city, and when looking at the map, it's pretty obvious that the two cities are nowhere close to each other, yet the world transitions in a way that makes it seem believable. While playing it finally clicked for me in this open world that yeah, while it may SEEM like it's only been 1 day since you went from Point A to Point B, that is also an exaggerated time frame so we aren't made sick by the day/night cycle. The way your companions talk to you, it's clear that Aloy is gone for days/weeks at a time, which makes way more sense. So that 10 minute trek for you to go from Vegas to the west coast is more like several days in the actual game's story. Just a cool little detail that makes the condensing of the world even better thought out!
@@ShaswatRao I wasn't implying that it hasn't been done before, but GTA 3 doesn't take place across half the country. The Crew also condenses North America in a similar way I believe. I was just stating that it actually clicked for me in-game as well as knowing that this is how most Open Worlds operate.
I had no freaking idea they put this much effort into recreating so many places in the map, I thought it was basically a few buildings, but holy crap this is amazing!
It's really stunning that they captured the real life locations accurately in the game and aged them by 1000 years, especially how they recreated elements that are now partially or fully underwater. They went fully all out past what they did in the first game.
Well they didn't really age them 1000 years, maybe 100 years instead, most stuff made with concrete and iron would be gone within 500 years let alone a wood, concrete lasts up to 100 years if cared for.Only thing still remaining after 1000 years would be Hoover dam.(out of things that humans build shown here.

Just made it to the coast and literally sat there for an hour, listening to the waves roll in and the seagulls passing back. Very relaxing. Better than any app that supposedly reduces stress. This game is a masterpiece in my opinion.
Horizon has lower rendered textures but a better artystle that makes it look better than real life. More proof that artstyle matters more than photorealism. Get on a better level Real Life Devs.
In my opinion, Forbidden West is the most beautiful game this year (so far). And let me tell you something, a very impressive comparison, I hope your efforts doing this be highly appreciated. Thanks, it was very entertaining.

I love the amount of detail that goes into these games. I really hope there's a 3rd one. I would LOVE to see the Statue of liberty all overgrown and deserted in a New York setting..
@@lancethedecayedguardian2719 Oh ok. I thought you were one of those guys who just played the main quests and skipped everything else lol. I've put at least 17 hours in and it only says like 9% complete. I'm doing most of the sides quests and question marks before I go back to the main story.
It really gives us a feeling of familiarity, and love for the world horizon is built in. It makes us think about how the “old ones” humanity has aged. It’s cool to see aspects of our present world in this future post apocalyptic world. Just like how we got to see crater lake in Daysgone. Beautiful game, amazing references.
The underwater sections of this game are just....... Jesus Christ how do I even put into words how magical it feels. Fucking mastery. And the story is even better than I thought. Never thought a sequel could improve on EVERYTHING.
Shout to these vista points! 👀 They were hard enough to line up in the game, but your in-game angles and real life pictures line up beautifully! Great job here
I like how they've taken famous landmarks and simulated the world taking over. Almost the same way the last of us works with vegetation overgrowing and taking over the cities and suburban areas
Yeah it’s interesting because Last of us is what 25-30 years after outbreak so everything is overgrown but the buildings & streets are not too far off what we know. In horizon the world has changed so much more in the 1000 years so water has risen and buildings are now underwater ruins. I love how the sands have covered the buildings turning Las Vegas into a desert. You can just see the top of some casinos and the Eiffel Tower, the bottom half is buried
I really appreciate the detail on how San Francisco just sank deep, especially with the Embarcadero ruins, knowing that it's 16m above sea level, and Alcatraz being lost at all.
@@stevecooper5419 People sometimes point out that there shouldn't be ruins at all considering the game is set past the year 3000, but they forget the part that weather collapsed and any kind of vegetation went extinct around 2068. It wouldn't be until 2400 that erosion processes could resume as we know.
@@stevecooper5419 I would say that in TLOU, the corridor nature of the map plays in the devs favor. Like, you can see the Seattle skyline in TLOU2 but probably access only a fraction of the city, so the majority of the assets can be 2D cardboards. Here, you kinda have to render everything in-game.
Genuinely, thank you for making this video! I’ve put in almost 100 hours into this game and somehow still missed some of these. Like another commenter said, it really does make you nostalgic for a world that still does exist. I love San Francisco and HWY101 and this game does such a great job representing them 🥺💗
Man, the devs outdone themselves. They recreated everything to finest details, minus shrink-up version of realize scale of the city. Amazing. And truly a masterpiece.
I'm from Cali I just played the game for about 2hrs and I'm heading to Utah for a weekend get away driving past Nevada to get there this video makes me want to visit every site this game shows. Amazing job Guerilla.
@@atlantic_love it does tho, some of these places are better looking than the real ones. The thing is that the world is literally an artists rendition of the world, making it more beautiful than irl.
Very cool, I still remember getting out of the "intro area" of Horizon zero Dawn and seeing the chapel from the air force academy. I've remember seeing that as a kid. We honeymoon in Bryce canyon and Zion, got to snowshoe Bruce and it was immense. Seeing these locations in the games has been really neat.
It's crazy, this entire time I obviously knew that loads of places in game were meant to be replicated from real world locations, but until this video I had no idea just how many there were, and how much work they put into getting the details so accurate. This makes me wish that they had some kind of optional overlay map in game so that you can see the real world names of each historical location along with some icons that you could maybe hover over to get some information about them. I'm not American and I've never been to the US, I've never seen or heard of most of the locations in this video, and I know for certain I've passed over several of these without knowing they were anything special. When I had to get Poseidon I was wondering why the heck they decided to move the Eiffel tower away from Paris 😭🤣
@@thameenurfansyukranfadzli2315 There is. That was the point I was making in my comment, I'm not American and have never been to the U.S so this landmark confused me when I came across it and I had to google it, which is why it would've been cool if there was an in game map feature that pinpoints irl landmarks and gives you info about them. Instead, players are expected to just recognize them when they come across them.
@@CytheriaXylia There are things called vantages in the game, you find the correct spot with your focus and it shows you the monument or location and what it used to look like before the collapse. Somebody might have a video on them on TH-cam check it out!
@@700mobster Lol no I know about vantage points (they're actually called vista points in Forbidden West), but as far as I can tell by searching, vista points aren't actually real world locations, but rather fictional ones that existed near the time before the machines took over, and they're mostly there to add more lore and immersion. There are only 9 total in the game, and I've opened up the whole map and I have yet to come across a vista point that's for any of these real world locations I'm talking about in this video. They really didn't put much of anything into the game to help people who don't know about these real life locations find and learn about them. It's just kind of expected that you know about these locations and that when you stumble across them you'll recognize them, and if you don't then there's nothing really special about finding them, they're just another part of the game.
@@CytheriaXylia there's probably some limitations on copyright. Especially for Vegas hotels. Spiderman ps4 doesn't have one world tower because you have to pay for rights. Same with Hollywood sign. So maybe saying that these are direct replicas would be a copyright issue
Wonderful work on the comparison video. I live in New England, so I would have passed by many of these sights and not even known what I was looking at. The attention to detail is impressive; props to Guerrilla Games for all the hard work that went into this.
This really is just proof of how much time and effort Guerilla put into the open world of Horizon, it is absolutely incredible to see the amazing attention to detail they put into all the decayed buildings and structures and even just the smallest details on the actual buildings are there too! I have never seen anything like this in a game! Freaking phenomenal job Guerilla games, u guys very clearly worked your asses off with developing this game and delivered an amazing one!
Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West are the only 2 games who made me really emotional.. and as s streamer i played a lot.. Well done, this video is pure art
Fantastic artwork. I really like how the future West is sensible compressed into the big, but not 1000ds of miles big game world, and the ideas how it could look like. Excellent art.
I like how some user reviews had the audacity to complain about graphics… like lol. Say what you want about the story/gameplay (I love it, I get if others don’t), but this game is objectively beautiful
Truly a revolutionary gaming experience.. The very first day I played this game I spent 30 minutes, probably a bit more even, just watching the clouds in the sky form and dissipate over time.., also the storm that comes and goes along with all the detail of all the insects, i.e. butterflies, dragonflies and microbes, flying and floating around you.. Truly a pleasure just to explore this World they have made for this story.., Of coarse this is coming from someone who has been enjoying the growth of Computer generated graphics from the beginning.. I was a fan of Killzone's early days., Guerilla games I had a feeling you could do better or that maybe I felt that first person shooters wasn't their strong suit or preference.., I wonder in Horizon, ( both games ), aimlessly and just say WOW as I stop to look around and smell the roses.., I honestly didn't think I was ever going to see., or even thought it was going to be possible to accomplish this level immersive detail with in a persons lifespan. Aloy's movement can be choppy at times when she maneuvers elevation changing ground.. Though to criticize this bar standard setting next gen game is to nitpick something you haven't yet been able to enjoy. In other words to criticize this game negatively in anyway.., would only come from a spoiled brats point of view.
I got the PS4 version for the free upgrade and to double my platinum. The game ain't ugly at all, but yeah you don't have the same wooooh effect. Still awesome on PS4 Enjoy mate 🔥
The developers at guerrilla games deserve so much credit for the stunning attention to detail they've been able to accomplish with forbidden West. Even the PS4 version is stunning but when you step up to PS4 pro and PS5 it's truly breathtaking. Zero dawn looked great but this is just next level! Cheers to PlayStation giving us incredible games to play 😁🎮🙌
The detail in the world is kind of insane. The amount of attention to detail with the landscape really makes horizon stand out compared to other games.
It's amazing and outstanding how they reproduced a preview of what the world would become after 1000 years. I'm amazed and I wonder how many of these structures can still hold up together. I know it's a game and it's a "simulation" of nature taking over the planet, but it's still very reflexive.
@@evie_1130 yeah but remember lots of weathering comes from living beings and earth was a barren rock for 60 years and hades wiped it clean three times so for a big chunk of those 1000 years the weathering would be decreased somewhat. It's not that this game is bad, it's just that a better game that did something new with the open world concept came in to overshadow it and HFW provided the perfect juxtaposition for people to compare Elden Ring to it. It is unfortunate because the effort and time put into this game is just astounding however anyone will admit that in terms of open world traversal and quest tracking they chose to go with the old and reliable system that people are pretty much sick of. I fully believe that it wouldn't have been such an issue if HFW had come out on its own a been given at least a month or two on its own to shine, but it didn't get that opportunity, usually when reviewing a game like this people praise all the pros like the amazing visuals, the great gameplay, awesome combat and interesting story with a con being that it doesn't do anything interesting in terms of its open world system. It would be a footnote and the game would receive a 9/10. But then comes another game in which about every single thing you can complain about in HFW is improved on; the open world traversal is better, your character doesn't keep hinting at what you need to do every few seconds, there's barely any HUD, they don't baby you with quest markers all over the map, it treats you like an adult. This video proves beyond the shadow of a doubt that HFW is an amazing game, but it's choices to go old school in a time when others were willing to make a risky endeavour is its folly. From Soft made a gamble that paid off and the unfortunate casualty was the Horizon Forbidden West's player base.
@@TheRoudyzor The time of writing that comment I was playing HFW and hadn't picked up Elden Ring, now I am about 20 hours in Elden Ring I would have to disagree with you. I like everything about HFW but I like everything about Elden Ring better, unfortunately. I don't want to make comparisons between two great games but I enjoy Elden Rings intuitive traversal and open world system better than HFW. I can foresee me playing Elden Ring for the rest of the year and more even after I eventually finish the story but just like HZD I don't think I'll go back to HFW once I finish all there is to do after the story ends.
@@navtektv you’re not entirely wrong, but horizon doesn’t baby you. You can also turn off all hud settings if you’d like too. As well as setting waypoints to explorer mode, where it shows the direction on the compass but nothing else. Also Aloy just reiterates your primary objective. Whereas elden ring you’re forced to have to pay attention to every detail, watch a video, read the wiki, or you’re left wondering what to do next(in terms of quest progression). I’ve played both games as well with 50+ hrs on both but I think it’s just that people feel refreshed to not have the same/similar open world system as other games. Both are good games tho.

This game is insane... How do games like Breath of the Wild get drooled over and yet this comes out and people are like 'meh, cool'. This for me is just pure ART.
As someone born and raised in California and who has driven the 1 and the 15 and visited sf and Vegas many times this is super cool. I just bought the game yesterday and can't wait to discover all of this in game
These Horizon games are just so fascinating, it’s primal yet set in the future. These people in the future should have the most advanced technology in the world, yet they live like people did thousands of years ago, completely forgotten and unaware of how people used to go by their everyday lives and the only connection to the past is just the ruined world of those that existed before and the machines of doom they left behind. It’s so eerie in a sense, and yet it very well could be a reality, the damage that we are currently doing to our lovely planet is sad, and the constant threat of a nuclear war, well it’s not a even close reality at this point, but it doesn’t erase the fact that threat still remains
Really great job with the side-by-side photos bro! An additional one that I noticed was Scalding Spear itself, which is based on the Ivanpah Solar Panel facility in California. Also, I believe that the hotel ruins right next to the Stratosphere look an awful lot like Wynn Las Vegas, while the southernmost hotel on the strip might be MGM grand, but its difficult to be certain.
cracks me up that some of the beach locations are a 1:1 match but in other areas the water level's clearly 1-2 meters higher, minimum, to have flooded Oakland and the rest.
First of all, excellent video! I did have one point of contention and that was with the sequoia national park inclusion at the end. We do know that that location in game has to be roughly in the same area of California as sequoia national park due to the Sequoia trees only living at specific altitude ranges. However, unless there is some landmark we can tie to the park in game, we cant say it is for sure the park just because of the trees… there is a wide range in the game where sequoia trees are found, and since all of the trees in the park wouldve died to the Faro plague, all of these new sequia trees have to have been planted by gaia. therefore we cant pinpoint exactly where in game the park is supposed to be without some landmark or building.
As far as cities go: They did a good job of capturing the scale of SF. A so-so job of capturing the scale of the Vegas Strip. (I know it’s buried in sand but the size of the forums and the Paris hotel seems diminished.) Both were way better than how they showed Denver and SLC in the first game.
Al jugar Horizon Forbidden West en PS5 y ver esas ruinas de la civilización en estos momentos de tensión de guerra nuclear te hace pensar q no estamos muy lejos de la ficción y hace erizar la piel
My wish for this game is for it to continue expanding and cover the whole world. Would love to see how the rest of the world is and how the different clan/tribes developed in each continent. We got a taste of the Quen in this game. Hopefully we'll see more in the third game (if it ever happens) or a DLC.
I tried looking for exactly this kind of video shortly after launch and it at the time didn't exist... Little did I know you guys were working on all I could ask for and more. This is an absolute hell of a comparison video. Growing up in the Midwest I honestly had no idea about 80% of these were anything worth acknowledging. The team at Guerilla Games honestly deserve Game of the Year. This is the most detailed game created since The Last of Us Part II. Sidenote: I'd love to see a quick Part 2 to this video as I know for a fact 2 locations and probably more were missed. For example I know Big Sur is in the game... Also the large satellites that make up Plainsong also exist in real life.
Im playing the first game for the first time,it is apsolutely stunning, from craftin sistem to graphics, story and fun gameplay. When i complete the game ,im taking a halftime break and going in for forbiten west
This is amazing, thanks! I did not know that it was so detailed oriented with the real life locations. It blows my mind. I love these games, and this is one of the things I love the most (other than Aloy), the world.
The level of detail is incomparable with any other games of this generation. It's so hard to play other games after finishing Forbidden West. The depth of the story, details, movement mechanics is just too good. I got so absorbed into the narrative. I listen and read every data points i find. I'm just a little disappointed by the weapon upgrade requirements. You have to veer off from the story, fast traveling and reloading until an apex machine spawns to get the upgrade parts(rinse and repeat until you have the x amount you need). It's too time consuming and makes the experience dull. reminds me of ubisoft games repetitive missions
it is like monster hunter. why is it ok in monster hunter but it is stupid in hoirzon? i do not understand that. i love collecting parts like that. gives me the immersion of being a hunter. besides it is all optional!
You could change the settings to easy loot which allows you to collect all the parts from a machines even if they're still attached to it. It saves you a lot of hours and effort when you are doing post-game grinding.
There's a strange feeling while wandering in the Horizon world. The world is clearly condensed compared to reality, but all the setting, camera distortion, time lapse have hidden it so well that players still consider the map tremendously huge. It's only when I try to measure the distance by counting Aloy's footsteps from one place to another that I can confirm this condensation.
At 3:50 that reality image really impressed me. I didn't know the Cesar Palace was so destroied, in its place the palace in Forbidden West looks amazing.
lol you have to be kidding . It's not even as good as the Tombraider reboots. Lara still has more charm in her little finger than Alloy has in her whole wide frame lol
wow, this is truly insane, it's incredible that so many of these places are actually real. I'm from Asia, never travel far so have not seen any of these and it's so cool to see them all like this. Thank you for your hard work to put together everything, just amazing. When i think this game couldn't get more awesome, lol you did it in details.
I was out in California last year, drove up the PCH, across the Golden Gate Bridge, and saw several of the locations. Seeing them in this game was amazing! They even got the large beds of ice plants that grow along the coast, so many pretty flowers, exactly right 😊.
I love the detail in what Horizon did with California. The downside is they sank half of San Francisco, but it seems like the rest of Cali didn’t. It gets confusing at times considering I have been to those locations yet if some of it is underwater then most of the rest should be too. Unless the ground itself sank due to the earthquakes, but if that were to happen then the tall structures would have definitely collapsed.
I stop playing games for years. Then my cousins told me there is a game out that I would like called Horizon. Life is busy didnt try it. Years later friends of mine asked me if I still play games. I told them not really. They said If I do check out a game called Horizon. Years later my cousin was selling his PS4 because he was getting a PS5. I bought it from him because of the final fantasy 7 remake game coming out and he gave me his Horizon game. I played...it was the most beautifully constructed artistic game I have ever seen. I was hooked. Hooked so much that I bought a PS5 for Horizon 2. This game reminds me of the many places I have visited and to see this video just confirmed it. Thank you
You did a great job finding so many iconic locations and comparing them seamlessly with their real world counterparts, but I must say, I'm a bit surprised by the lack of Yosemite Valley. Visiting that place in game was so surreal to me, I had to just sit and watch the scenery before progressing the story.
Es hermoso, los escenarios soy muy profundos, te ponen a pensar como sería todo después de la humanidad, te deja perplejo la cantidad de años que ha pasado, mostrando todo lo que dejó el hombre marcado en la historia. 10/10
I never really cared for this game series but honestly, this looks pretty impressive. I might have to pick this one up, it looks like it'd be so fun to explore.
I thought the same thing, I was like, I don't think I'll be Interesting to be killing machines with an arrow over and over again.... But boy, it's not what I thought... the game has a great side missions, great combat, so many options how to take these beast down, storyline, and storytelling are really good.. I haven't finished Horizon zero down just yet, but I'm loving it so far. You should try it. Just too add I hate open world games because I hate doing nonsense missions but this one is different.
I really appreciate how much love went into this game mirroring real landmarks especially the ones that were submerged, the world building in this was so beautiful

Anyone else really enjoy this part??
i rlly enjoyed that part, i think by far my favourite part in the game, the trio, the hologram shows, the sunken casino, all of it was amazing

I loved the part when she can breathe underwater
I spent a long time swimming around trying to figure out what to do. Finally had to hit YT to find out to look for the first terminal. Was a cool section though and the breather unlocks a bunch of other stuff so that was also cool.

I mean this is something open-world games have been doing since GTA 3

This actually had to require a lot of work, thanks for doing this. It was very entertaining.

I'm not American and I've never been to the US, I've never seen or heard of most of the locations in this video, and I know for certain I've passed over several of these without knowing they were anything special.

As far as cities go:
They did a good job of capturing the scale of SF. A so-so job of capturing the scale of the Vegas Strip. (I know it’s buried in sand but the size of the forums and the Paris hotel seems diminished.)
Both were way better than how they showed Denver and SLC in the first game.
Crazy how you even compiled these locations... EXCELLENT JOB
:/I used to come here only to listening this music, but it's gone. :/
My wish for this game is for it to continue expanding and cover the whole world. Would love to see how the rest of the world is and how the different clan/tribes developed in each continent. We got a taste of the Quen in this game. Hopefully we'll see more in the third game (if it ever happens) or a DLC.
As a New Yorker I would love to see Horizon’s version of New York
@@YourWaveyness considering the shape of SF, prolly not that much to see...

No words...an absolute masterpiece!
At 3:50 that reality image really impressed me. I didn't know the Cesar Palace was so destroied, in its place the palace in Forbidden West looks amazing.
it is now safe to say that HFW is now the official IP of PS5. it's like Super Mario to Nintendo and Sonic to Sega.
lol you have to be kidding . It's not even as good as the Tombraider reboots. Lara still has more charm in her little finger than Alloy has in her whole wide frame lol
@@DEVILTAZ35 no lmao 🤣
wow, this is truly insane, it's incredible that so many of these places are actually real. I'm from Asia, never travel far so have not seen any of these and it's so cool to see them all like this. Thank you for your hard work to put together everything, just amazing. When i think this game couldn't get more awesome, lol you did it in details.
Increíble gráficos e increíble trabajo que has hecho, hay monumentos que ni sabía que existían

Thank you
Vaya trabajazo tiene este vídeo. ¡Enhorabuena crack!
You did a great job finding so many iconic locations and comparing them seamlessly with their real world counterparts, but I must say, I'm a bit surprised by the lack of Yosemite Valley. Visiting that place in game was so surreal to me, I had to just sit and watch the scenery before progressing the story.
what happen to the music? video is muted
One of the games you wish would never end, beautiful

This game has always creeped me out! Nice montage of reality vs how it might have gone (go).

I screamed when I went underwater and found the Palace of the Arts for the first time. I don’t think any game has made me shed as many tears as Horizon has. Great franchise.
ni si quiera lo he jugado todavía y ya puedo decir que este juego es una obra de arte que maravilla el trabajo de guerrilla se nota que esta vez se enfocaron mucho mas en hacer un mapeado que de verdad valiera la pena explorar.
Imagine we‘d get a sequel where we play as elisabet and we can actually travel through those existing cities
