  • Hi!
I’m back in the sewing room today. I’m making a Card Trick quilt block.
This is an optical illusion block, dating back to the 1970s. Here’s a link to a little historical info about the block that you may find interesting: fcacarts.org/up...
It’s a lot of fun to make. It does take some time, attention to detail and concentration, at least for me!
You can use this pattern to make an entire quilt, or you can use it as an accent block in many quilt projects.
I trim the block to 12.5 inches square, and it will finish in your quilt at 12 inches square.
You will need to choose one background fabric and four “card” fabrics that have a nice contrast with the background. The block is a nine patch, which means it’s comprised of nine patches sewn together.
I show you exactly how to piece together the block. It does have bias cuts, so be sure to starch your fabric and handle the cut pieces as little as possible to keep from distorting the fabric.
For best results, sew the final nine patches together using scant 1/4” seam allowances.
I also show you how to press the seams in each step of the process to insure your seams match up beautifully.
Here’s the tape I used on my ruler: www.fatquarter...
Music performed by classical guitarist Gary Walts. Gratefully used with permission.
