I disagree - Reagan was always a conservative...it was the democratic party that left him!

1984 speech at the convention in Dallas was great as well. And...Pavarotti sang! Those were the days...

Don't you wish the today's leaders in both the Repuplican and Democratic parties has his strength, conviction, and core basic principles? Sadly I in my honest opinion such leaders no longer exists in the Washington DC.

It's hard to believe when you look at him that he was 69 years old. Didn't even have to dye his hair.

Well said. I think you're right about his electability. And I echo your sentiments about wishing he was POTUS today.

Joe Louis Arena must've been a magical place that night! Everything Mr. Reagan said about taxes & the economy in 1980 is happening all over again, except @ breakneck speed. As a true Conservative patriotic American, Mr. Reagan did warn us about the dangers of socialism. We cannot afford four more years of it under Obama, that's for sure! I wish Reagan had been nominated on the 1976 GOP ticket. The American people made the right choice in '80 & '84! Bless You, Mr. Reagan! R.I.P., Sir!

CPMS, don't forget Rendezvous With Destiny. Hell, all of Reagan's speeches were great, and he didn't need a teleprompter!

It looks like a much younger George W Bush (in brown coat) and Laura (to his right) were sitting behind Bush 41.
    37:15
2:35 and 38:15 show them from a distance w/ Laura visible

The US Deficit in 1980: $60 Billion. The US Deficit in 2012: $16 Trillion. Ronald Reagan must be turning over in his grave to what both GW Bush AND Barack Obama have done to this country.

This is the Gipper at his best. Republicans need to watch this and watch it again. Maybe it will help them to figure out where they have lost their way. Mitt Romney, you do not deserve to bear this man's mantle.

Sadly the leadership and ideals of Reagan are long gone. Today's GOP is totally lost, and they keep sinking as the years go by!

Reagan could never get away with a speech like this, everything is too polarized. Also a man like Reagan could never get elected now because he is too Christian and religious (mind you I wish Reagan was our President now)

He sold weapons to Iran in order to fund the Nicaraguan Contras and lied about it.
His descendants likely forget this today
