Thanks for watching and I wish you the best with your purchase. We’ll maintained these trucks can be a very good and versatile and with the sentimental value that this one has I plan to keep it beyond the wheels falling off
Brother, I agree with you 100% the tailgate is heavy. I noticed you have same issue I was having trying to open the tailgate. Just yesterday I lubed up with silicone spray lube the mechanism where the tailgate makes contact and closes on each side. Now I can pop it open with one finger. Of course its still heavy, but being that its heavy and not lubed up will greatly increase your chance of breaking the handle or something inside. Hope it helps. Great video.
Thanks for the suggestion I’ll definitely check into it and thanks for watching, will be adding some new videos of the truck soon and I’ll just say it’s changed quite a bit
I agree about the third door. It could have been on the drivers side. Mine messed up a few months ago. I need to fix it. I didn't know the back seat folded out. I will have to try that. My dash lights are the same way. My air compressor went out recently. My spare tire cable broke a long time ago. It does have a few problems but most twenty three year old trucks do. I still love it.
Yep it does fold forward, check it out and yeah the 3rd door messed up one time on this truck but we fixed it. Other than a few flaws here and there, they are pretty stout trucks. Thanks for the comment
I used to have 2 of the 11th generation F-150s, my first truck was a 2004 model and was totaled when it got tboned in 2022. I then got another 2004 model which I had for a year until I slid on black ice one night in 2023 and rolled over several times in the ditch. Both ran really great and both had the timing chain and cam all the phaser replaced just before they reached 200,000 miles on it. First one had 200k while the other had 203k when they were junked, both were in excellent condition except for the frame of course. Since March 2023, I now have a 2001 Ford and while I do like the interior and exterior of my old truck more, I've also come to love my 10th Generation truck a lot. It's soon about to reach 250,000 miles on it and it drives so nice. Especially since they're getting harder to spot on the road. It's a full 4 door crew cab and even though I wasn't a fan of the way the rear looked at first, I actually find it unique, also because you don't see them much. I still have had problems during the first year with it especally since its only been the first year of it being used again and a lot of the stuff underneath had to be replaced after sitting for 3 years. It has left me stranded a couple times already but all reasons were easily diagnosed and fixed. However when it comes to actual complaints I really don't have any EXCEPT for the heat and AC 🤣 being that it is old, neither works as they used to. I can barley get my truck cool in the summer and I can barley get it warm in the winter, although it is still warm enough to melt the frost of my windows and keep them defogged. I've tried to recharge it and flush my coolant and it had seemed to work but it has never stayed working for long, HOWEVER there has been slight improvement 😂
There is one thing like mechanic and part failures and other is bad space interior/exterior design. You right spot on in a few and not so much in others IMO!
your right most of that was personal problems and not even about the truck. for instance i’m six feet tall and have no problem with my knees hitting the dash, it looks like you’re seat was scooted up to far. and the cup holder issue smh ….dang dang dang.
Great list totally agree. I would add that I hate the fiberglass rail covers on the bed. Forget about resting your arms on them unless you want microscopic glass shards all over your forearms. They are a pointless aesthetic that is beyond me why ford continues to put these even on the new trucks. I also think that having only four tie down anchors on the bottom of the bed corners is highly inadequate.
For a 10th gen that has seen plenty of salt it is clean. Up in Minnesota some of them have the gas tank help up by ratchet straps and the body panels flap at high way speeds.
I have one over 318k miles. Still wants to run. My break pads fell out today and manifold cracked. Simple fix this weekend and maybe do spark plugs soon too.
I plan to get one because they are extremely helpful, and yeah the plug threads and constant coil issues were a flaw for these trucks. I have replaced many myself
only thing i agree with you is the tail gate other then that zero issues or complains with my 98.... the whole lights in cluster and shift linkage thats just on you because thats an easy fix
Thanks for the comment and yeah I just need to find time and get it done, fixed the broken plastic for the shifter indicator, still need to do the lights
Does anyone have trouble starting the f150 98 maybe 99 or 2000 I have a 98 and I have to spray carburetor spray to the carburetor so it can start , it’s not the started and it does have oil , I’m thinking I need a new carburetor and Intake ? Please I need help I would really appreciated
Well first off these trucks are MPFI, not carbureted. Have you verified if you’re getting fuel pressure to the fuel rail? Can you hear the fuel pump whine when you turn the key? The fuel pump will pump fuel before the engine starts and you should be able to hear that. It’s also possible the fuel filter on the frame rail is clogged. If the truck runs on starting fluid but dies right after, you have a lack of fuel.
Maybe if you waxed your car twice a year the clear coat wouldn't have been ruined. Also, try silicon lube on your handles. You can't change a light bulb in your dash??? That's not Fords fault. Adjust you shift needle. Five minute procedure. It is isn't "is what it is". It's called maintenance. Torque your plugs to 25 lbs. and they'll never spit out.
Waxing I blame was the reason my clear coat went to sh8t. He is right, the factory coat is super thin and the buffer burns right through it during progressive waxing things get worse.
A agree the 3 door is definitely less convenient than the 4 door but the reason behind it was they didn't have permission to have a rear door open into traffic when parked. I find this a neat little hidden piece of motor history. I had a 2000 xlt and now own a 97 xl. These trucks are just fantastic 👌 the 4 door became a thing in 1999
I can definitely understand the issue, just one of them piece of history things, sacrifice some convenience for safety I can live with that. Definitely fantastic trucks and yes 99 was the start of the 4 door, but can you tell me when the 170 degree opening rear doors became a thing?
It's not a shift cable issue, it's a plastic clip that breaks , easily replaced.. The 2v doesn't have the plug blow issue.. The 2v doesn't have the shallow plug treads .. Only the 3v ..
I meant to say plastic piece and I made a video showing how to fix it for free (with a zip tie) Also the 2v does have issues with plugs blowing out and shallow threads, there are multiple sources (articles and videos) about this issue, please feel free to look it up or I can drop some links. The 3v may also have issues with the heads but I’m not as familiar with them, I’ve just been told to stay away from them.
I have the F-150 SuperCrew cab Lariat and the spark plugs are serious problem they go black I have heard everybody complain about the spark plugs when my mechanic changes them they're always black constantly and heavily Suited and mine Burns a lot of gas like 9 miles a gallon
Lol bro i feel you on alot of your problems but i wouldnt trade mine for nothing i have a 2000 5.4 with the r100 off road. The only problems i dont care about tou named is clear coat mine is fine and someone filled inside of my tailgate with stone havent took it out yet.
Yeah my lights ain't working either but also neither does my odometer, fuel gage is inaccurate same with the temp and 2-4 minutes after driving my rpm gets capped at 1500 - 2000 while driving.
Go under dash above brake pedal there s a bracket to shift arm check it it has 2 bolts and mine were almost all the way backed out wouldn't shift into park and after you tighten there's a fine tuning on shift indicator under dash to I tighten mine up and it's like brand new
I had a 2003 extra cab four doors but one day my extra door didn't open bur I love it I had for 12 years but it started to rust big time bur now I have a 2012 Ford f 1 50 I love it
Yeah the paint/clear coat is the worst and the rust but pretty much everything else is honestly just nit picking bc I absolutely love this truck and it does what I need it to do. Be sure to check out my vid on the 10 things I love about it. Thanks
I own a 2003 and have driven it for the last 13 years. I have none of those problems. Looks more like a lack of maintenance. Confirmed by all the trash and junk piled up inside the truck.
It’s not that it was neglected it just barely got driven from 06-07 to 2021 and when a vehicle sits outside and not used much things start to leak and deteriorate paint fades etc. I’m not really completing it just a video to nit pick and have viewers like you watch and create revenue, then in return I can use that money to fix things and drive it. I know it’s an old truck I’ve owned older trucks before that were falling apart and would drive them til the wheels fell off as I would this one, hell I’d drive this truck any day of the week before I’d drive my 19 Ram Cummins
Like this video?
Check out the 10 things I LOVE about my 10th Gen F150

My 2003 f150. Is so reliable even with over 238000 miles on it. Just needs to warm up an it runs like brand new.
I agree with just about everything you talked about except the knee hitting the dash. I'm 6' 2 and have zero issues.
It might be because of the seat being so close to the dash. Thanks for the comment
I have a 2000 and I’m 6”4 and haven’t had that issue either
I’m totally into my 2002. Ford F-150 Supercrew. It’s a great truck!!!
I agree with you because I like crew cab trucks. I don't like how extended cab trucks are made.
the gear selection needle is adjustable, there is a little wheel under the dash cap
Got it, thanks for the comment
If you think that cup holder is in a bad place you must have never rode in a 96-99 chevy
I sure haven’t, although I have been in other vehicles that have their cup holders in an unusual place. I’m sure it’s bad though
Ha! My 97 nissan hardbody didn’t have any cup holders. 😂 count them blessings.
@@officialsouthsoul5223 I had a buddy that had one of those so I feel ya pain 😂
Thank you for the video! Looking at buying an 03 this week. Appreciate your words of wisdom!
Thanks for watching and I wish you the best with your purchase. We’ll maintained these trucks can be a very good and versatile and with the sentimental value that this one has I plan to keep it beyond the wheels falling off

Spray the hole right behind the tailgate wire with wd40 while the tailgate is open. That fixed my mechanism issue with the tailgate
I will do that thanks for the suggestion
can you please explain more in detail where the hole right behind the tail gate is? I've got that same problem

Good video, this is stuff you wouldn't know until you drive it awhile. Thanks for sharing.
You are absolutely right
your right most of that was personal problems and not even about the truck. for instance i’m six feet tall and have no problem with my knees hitting the dash, it looks like you’re seat was scooted up to far. and the cup holder issue smh ….dang dang dang.
Thanks for watching
My clearcoat from a 1997 is still in great conditions and I have very little rust. I think that truck was not properly taken care of.
Great list totally agree. I would add that I hate the fiberglass rail covers on the bed. Forget about resting your arms on them unless you want microscopic glass shards all over your forearms. They are a pointless aesthetic that is beyond me why ford continues to put these even on the new trucks. Yep yep I agree on rail covers and on the anchor points. More anchor points more security
Really good shape for one of these. Modable for sure.
Thanks and absolutely 👍🏻
For a 10th gen that has seen plenty of salt it is clean. Up in Minnesota some of them have the gas tank help up by ratchet straps and the body panels flap at high way speeds.
Thanks and I have heard of the ratchet straps on the gas tanks but not the panels that’s a new one
I have one over 318k miles. Still wants to run. My break pads fell out today and manifold cracked. Simple fix this weekend and maybe do spark plugs soon too.
That’s awesome they are built to last
You’ve got my same exact truck lol I love it
Except I got the 4.6 triton
That’s awesome and I love the color combo on it
My 03 came with a tailgate assist, my biggest issue is the engine, I’m on my 3rd set of ignition coils
I plan to get one because they are extremely helpful, and yeah the plug threads and constant coil issues were a flaw for these trucks. I have replaced many myself
Are You Planning To Give Your Truck A New Coat Of Paint? (The Same It’s Got On It)
Yes just a new coat of back from the fade then more clear
Did you ever get the bulbs replaced behind the instrument cluster ?
Not yet working on replacing valve cover gaskets this January they are leaking bad
only thing i agree with you is the tail gate other then that zero issues or complains with my 98.... the whole lights in cluster and shift linkage thats just on you because thats an easy fix

If I am not mistaking I think I once seen a 4 door extended cab did they even made some ?
@joseolivares6881 the 4 door came in 1999 and up i do believe. it took a couple years. My old 2000 xlt had 4 doors
I can definitely understand the issue, just one of them piece of history things, sacrifice some convenience for safety I can live with that. Definitely fantastic trucks and yes 99 was the start of the 4 door, but can you tell me when the 170 degree opening rear doors became a thing?
Yes since the 99 year models they have all been 4 door on the supercab/extended cabs or scabs as some would refer to them as
Bought a 2001 with the 5.4 a few months ago. Had 119,000mi when I bought it.
It's not a shift cable issue, it's a plastic clip that breaks , easily replaced.. The 2v doesn't have the plug blow issue.. The 2v doesn't have the shallow plug treads .. Only the 3v ..

Same here, I wouldn’t trade her for the World and yeah I was definitely just nit picking most things 😂
Love mine except rust
I replaced all my cluster lights with t5 t10 led's. Pretty simple job
Thanks for the comment, I will check into some of them and do a video of the change out of I can get enough time from work
Yeah my lights ain't working either but also neither does my odometer, fuel gage is inaccurate same with the temp and 2-4 minutes after driving my rpm gets capped at 1500 - 2000 while driving.
Tricky situations
That third door is the reason I bought a 1998 Dodge, because it had 4 doors.
I can understand that
Amazon sells tailgate helper shocks so when you go to lay it down it's slow and not heavy they are $20
Thanks I’ll have to check it out
The only thing I dislike on Fords is that from 1980-2014 the trucks have sever onset psorias
Very true
But I do have same trucks and I like then it hard to find ten u don't like about it good video
Go under dash above brake pedal there s a bracket to shift arm check it it has 2 bolts and mine were almost all the way backed out wouldn't shift into park and after you tighten there's a fine tuning on shift indicator under dash to I tighten mine up and it's like brand new

Yeah the doors can be a pain when they don’t open but definitely a great truck. The 2012 is a nice one as well
Good when it hot and ac blows. On it
Heavy tail gate LOL! Try A 1988 F-150 Tail Gate.
Had an 85 and the tailgate wasn’t as heavy basically the same as an 88
Definitely nit picking here and there. Ford definitely had issues in the late 90s with the paint.
Yeah the paint/clear coat is the worst and the rust but pretty much everything else is honestly just nit picking bc I absolutely love this truck and it does what I need it to do. Be sure to check out my vid on the 10 things I love about it. Thanks
Mines been fine its a 2000.
The only thing i hate is mines a 2wd 😂😂
Sorry to hear that 😂
@@TruckLifeProductions lol its ok since its only got 3 tires its green bean the 3 leg ford
Rear windows also leak and have to be resealed
I have the issue with the 3rd break light leaking
I own a 2003 and have driven it for the last 13 years. I have none of those problems. Looks more like a lack of maintenance. Confirmed by all the trash and junk piled up inside the truck.
Thanks for the comment, yep you called it 🤦🏻♂️
The main thing everyone loves... THE PRICEand the other? Rust free
Yep
damn that clear coat looks good for a 20 plus year old truck that sits outdoor in the elements
Sure does, they definitely don’t make em like they used to
You sound like Dale Jr
It’s a southern thing 🤷🏻♂️
Yeah. My clear coat looks horrible.
There are many that I’ve seen like this 🤦🏻♂️
Mother in law tell me there was a recall for defective clear coat her fathers truck had to be repainted twice it was so bad
Tailgate heavy to funny are there still men in America then he says it to heavy and closes it with one hand
It's not a gen 9!
Nope it’s a 10th Gen all day. If I said 9th that was an accident
It looks like your truck was neglected you complain about everything it's an old truck.
