Hi Strell, I am following you for quite a few time and I watch almost all of your videos. Regarding the tank bag and saddle bag I have very neutral opinion as I also thik the same way you described. And for pannier also, as it is very hard to find any pannier and its mounting assembly which will go in line with the frame of any sports touring machine unless the company itself provide an option. Not to mention that the touring set up u made in your bike looking flawless because of the neat and clean mounting of the top box. Looks wise this should be the most preferred setup for any body if anyone can manage to tour with light luggage more or less on the plane areas not much of uphill or downhill roads and of course pillion on board. Now for the top box you have mentioned one problem that is of wind interference while riding alone. As per my opinion the second problem would be of balance of the bike if you keep a bit of heavy stuff in your top box. While the pillion is on board the CG of the whole setup itself sits a bit backwards from the position where it should be. Now as the top box is attached at the furthest end of the bike and high up, keeping heavy stuff in that will again push the CG further back and pull high up. The affect of which can be felt very much while doing steep uphill/downhill. I have a R3 which is also a sports tourer and I just experienced the fact during my Darjeeling tour with my pillion.
The whole thing is related to sports tourer bike only*.

In 2010 I bought zmr fed up vth indian make's after sale's service network, so again I bought fz in 2011 I loved it but not satisfied vth it's performance for long rides so bought cbr250r in 2013 nd there I stopped buying bike's for past 7 years (2013-20) now my 250r clocked 1,20,000km's it's time to upgrade from 250cc beast I lived vth to 650cc categories for long rides to explore all over india nd my personal choice is cbr650r I like only sports touring bike's but little confused, so kindly make a comparison video between cb650r nd cbr650r ur review vll be useful for many of Ur viewer's ✌🏻‼️

I've the 2019 Z900 and have fitted the smaller type of hard panniers 20L in size and are just below seat height. Found them to be great and do not interfere with riding style. They are the H&B C-bow pannier racks designed for sports and naked bikes (bit expensive though). However if I want to tour, I use the larger 30L saddle bags and 35L seat bag.

    Great video Strell.
For single rider mode, have you tried reversing the direction of the top box? Meaning, the aerodynamic back now faces the front side (driving direction).
This might help single riders reduce wind resistance.

I have a top box on cb300r, it really helps in both touring and daily commute (putting my laptop bag so that my shoulder is free). However as Strell mentioned, i too feel cross winds are more difficult (I primarily ride solo). But usually you can understand how the top box is pulling the bike and adjust your body to it in crosswind situations, as the way the topbox affects the bike is constant.

Going by aerodynamics, the lid of the top box should be in line with the taillight and a tad below the pillion seat, the stay should be designed thus. The redesigned taillight and turn indicators may be housed on the top box itself. This will minimize the drag even when riding alone

Just a denim backpack with 2 or 3 sections, im done.. that's more than enough for my luggage while long rides (shirts, phant, snacks & MRE'S, rain dress, 2 set of chargers, power bank, electronic gadgets and other important stuffs). i put the bag on by back with tight fit, at the same time entire weight rested on the empty space between the pillion and front seat. yamaha r3 have some nice space between two seats.
important docs related to bike will always be kept under pillion seat..
that's my luggage carrying style for long rides. my pillion also comfortable with this kinda setup.

Ohh.. we love u for this type of analysis and clarification from ur end, well justified needless to say! We do have a BMW 310 GS and we have always tried trips with saddle bags which obviously never created an issue in the aerodynamics of the bike but recently we were shooting at the idea of top panier box for the locking security u mentioned as those r very useful in one day rides and parking it outside! This video just gave us a good confidence and we r now left to choose a proper high capacity top box, anything u recommend wud be extremely helpful.

It was not that good either. Now a days what I really feel good is to take a 60L back pack from decathlon and use waterproof cover & tie it with bungee chod. It's good to go. Good one , if you ride with pillion go for top box or else it's drag when you cruise around 110 above . And also the plastic top box starts to rattle and are of risk after using of 3 to 4 months of ride . The base plate and the connection top box hole gets rubbed and the bike becomes big and the connection between both becomes loose . So with aluminium top box this won't happen cause of metal plate and metal holder .

Consider SF250 if you want to tour a lot. Otherwise both are good for city use. It's just a matter of choosing the one based on liking.

@@nandusvijayan8583 Gixxer sf 250 performance is similar to cbr250r.. i would recommend this bike for long touring for starters as cbr250r sales stopped by Honda.
