      The biggest reason why automakers are "padding the interior with as much shit as possible to distract you from driving" is because the public wants to be distracted. You can see it from the BRZ/FT86 sales numbers. People who want a pure driving experience are going extinct.

    S2000 > FRS. Different classes. Different engineering goals and definately different execution. The Honda S2000 is a top class car with many awards and the engine is a marble of engineering getting it the award of best N/A engine in history by Car and Driver. Let's not forget different generations so the comparison is ridiculous.

    • @ImBarryScottCSS

    I feel like a lot of the things that people criticize the s2k for are reasons that I love mine even more. I don't want my sports car to be easy for everyone. I don't want it to be practical. I want to have to work for all the power up top.. it makes it exciting to me, and actually feels special. Like you said, this car was built specifically to be driven and enjoyed. That's it. And it does that very well.

  • @FlashxSwazy
    @FlashxSwazy 10 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    I'm always left confused because I watch his videos hear his complaints and then get in my car and hit the on ramp and off ramp on the highway at high speeds and feel so much satisfaction. The car doesn't feel as slow as people say it is to me. Maybe because I haven't driven a 60,000 dollar car.. But why would you compare the two anyway? Plus almost car within price range that I race.. I beat.. And none of them have as much soul as mine or look as good. I was given a 2010 Mazda 6 and it had a nice interior with gizmos and gadgets... Gave it back to her and bought my frs because I wanted a car that was fun to drive... Also I think the car looks pretty damn good. And so does everyone else who approaches me daily to ask about it. Videos are entertaining but I just can't relate to any of the problems he has about the car.

    Excellent real review from a car enthusiast's perspective. I will mention that, the DBW system in the 06+ S2000 is fantastic. Having owned both a 05 and an 07 S2000, the time delay between a throttle cable and the S2k DBW system isn't noticeable enough. As for performance vs. an 86 at an auto-x, it's a driver's game. I've seen S2k's beat 86's and vice-versa with no real clear winner. I'd say the two are evenly matched and skill/comfort level with the car is the deciding factor. Keep up the good work with your reviews, guys!

    Couldn’t disagree with you more old chap. A chum and a Porsche 997 was amazed how hard he had to work just to keep up with the 86 in the hills. I also thrashed an S 2000 on the roads behind the Nurbergring. It was okay but nothing special. Gimmicky dashboard, full of rattles and very cramped. If you can’t afford an 86/BRZ a secondhand Porsche Boxster with sticky tyres is a better bet IMO

    6:15 It would be a horrible style clash if a fat person could sit in an S2000. Almost a design flaw, violating the spirit, the philosophy of the car.
    If you got extra pounds and want to drive an S2000, rev high and burn those calories. (In fact, the release of the S2000 might have contributed to public health that way.)
    And if you're very tall, ... well, then go bald and wear thin clothes or something. Not my problem. I am made for the car. I'm small and couldn't even get fat if I tried. (I rev too high.)
    Man, watching these S2000 videos is hard for me! They always remind me of how differently my life could have gone if I had not been pressured into misery to not get the car I knew was the best lifelong investment and my automotive spirit animal. I hear about its flaws that would bother me so much in other cars, but not in this one.
    Oh well, everything happens for a porpoise. I'll just have to wade in sea.
    11:30 His first mistake was too eager and nervous steering, second mistake not getting fully off the throttle once the spin announced itself, third mistake to try and countersteer instead of turning the car 180. He pretty much allowed the wild rear to push the front right into the barricades. (And when there are any obstacles nearby (which is bad for a race track), I would never risk it anyway. No stupid lap time on a scoreboard is worth wrecking your S2000.)
    I wouldn't even have worried about wrecking my S2000, because I would have been so content just pushing it in a straight line and doing some brief nimble maneuvers in ideal conditions. The RWD is always a reminder to not get stupid. ... Even my Corolla I planned to keep forever, and so far it worked, although not as pleasantly as I imagined.
    *Your sub count reads 404. ... Just like my happiness.*

    I love your videos. And I own a 2014 Lightning Red BRZ.
    In Canada the S2000 was over $48,000 CAD before tax. The twins start at $26,670 today before tax. I'm only pointing that out to people outside the USA who might be judging these cars as equals, because they aren't. The S2000 out the door is twice as much money. And this is not even considering inflation. You might as well compare the S2000 to the GTR next. Only food for thought.

      Exactly. If we consider price when new, the S2K would be compared to the Audi TT and a Porsche Boxster/Cayman, and would lose handily to the latter. It was never the entry level car the 86 is trying to be.

    What do you think about the S15 Silvia Spec R? I know you guys in the States can't get em for another 10 years but they're legal now in Canada. From the numbers it seems like it's a more powerful s2k with the practicality of a FRS.

    I was worried by the Mazda 3 review that you were running out of ideas. This video proved me wrong. Can't wait for part two. BTW this video is a lot better and informative than all the professional reviews I've seen. My biggest complaint about the fr-s is the transmission (mine is junk, feels clunky, hard to guide into correct gear, low rpm shifts are just horrible and causes grinding noises sometimes) and the torque is horrible. Any respectable engineer who looked at the stock FR-S torque curve would have gone back to the drawing board after looking at that torque curve.

      @savagegeese: That part was so disturbing without knowing the concept, that I wasnt able to focus on the video few seconds after. Yet, right after that, you put the most important message of the series. which I have missed for the first time, coz my brain was full of 'that impact wasnt that bad, did he really died?' Just a bit of constructive feedback. Also, given the whole sarcastic theme of your videos, its often hard to find the line of where you are guys being serious and when you are taking a piss:) but I guess thats the point:D

    I think the mushy stock powerband was deliberate. They wanted an engine that would handle a 50% FI power increase without any major upgrades, but a relatively sedate powerband for all the average Joe drivers out there who won't be doing autocross or any other form of racing. Toyota will probably never release an actual TRD supercharged version of the car, but there may be as nowball's chance in hell of an STI. Probably won't come to the states, though, like most other non-WRX STIs.
    Nice no-bullshit review. I would have liked to hear more about the stock 86 suspension back-to-back vs the S2000.

    Amazing review man. I own a 2004 S2000 and 1994 NSX and totally agree with just about everything you said, including the analog vs modern cars. Any way you can make a bleeped/silenced cussing version of this? I would love to show this to family and friends but the cussing is too much. Thanks!

    I had to make the choice about 6 months ago. I went to drive the FR-S and was left pretty disappointed. There was just no balls on the acceleration, I could barely tell it apart from any other compact car. It felt solid on the turns but nothing that made me fall in love with it. Made me feel weird like I was an oddball because every journalist was raving. I then drove the S2000 (AP1, never got to drive the AP2 but I hear it really doesn't feel that different) and the rest is history. The designed 15 year thing is nuts. I wonder how good the car would have been and how much more power they would have squeezed out of the engine with the tech they have now.

      17x8 45 with 235 series RS3s. Good balance, but if you start going hard core track better to switch to a 17x9 35 or 17x9 40 if you can find it with 245 tires.

    Can't wait for part 2. I was very close to purchasing an frs...until I drove one. The motor is truly horrible stock. These cars shouldn't be focused on the motor, but the frs is so bad that it distracts from what other attributes the car offers. I daily drove a h22a prelude for years and while the frs/brz motor and the h22 make similar figures on paper, on the street they couldn't be more different. The h22 pulls with authority and purpose from every rpm so much harder...and it revs higher....and it sounds better...Oh yeah, and it puts down about 30 more to the wheels than a stock frs/brz...I drove an s2000 and frs in the same week before finding a mr2 spyder for less than 4k that I picked up to hold me over until the ND miata comes out. I still have the urge to buy an s2000 everytime I see one. Incredible cars.

      How is the oversteer and traction on your s2k, since it doesnt have trac. control

    • @TofuProductionCinema
      @TofuProductionCinema 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Evan H I find it to be pretty linear, less snap oversteer than the AP1s but not as "refined" as the 06+, I find the 04-05 probably the 'best'.
