The beauty of these films is that they are so easy and fun to watch. Are they gonna win any oscars? Of course not, but the purpose of movies is to allow us a chance to disconnect with the real world and enjoy a few hours of fantasy, and these films do that. They’ll never be the IJ series, but a good old fashioned, history based adventure film on a Sunday afternoon sounds like a blast to me.

Working in a college library, an Easter egg that I geeked-out over was the call number. It started with the letter Y. There no Y-numbers in the Library of Congress system; perfect for a classified designation. Kudos to the writer who knew to incorporate that detail for us book nerds.
Beautiful, that the book has pages never intended to be seen in the movie. If the actors thumbed through it, or dropped a loose insert, there would be something there; no blank pages.

I can appreciate the paper too. In the last couple of days, I was reading through scans of a journal from 1815 by Colin Robertson talking about his journey to the Red River Settlement under the employment of the Hudson's Bay Company. On the pages of the journal, you can clearly see the laid and chain lines, and parts of the watermark are spread across multiple pages (the sheets were cut to make the pages and bind the book). The writing technique is quite beautiful, the spelling of words is interesting (including the use of the long s in some words), and it's a really neat look at history. I learned to appreciate a lot of this stuff, in large part by learning from Adam talking about and appreciating old paper.

Conspirator 1: "How do we keep this thing, too powerful for release, from ever seeing the light of day?"
Conspirator 2: "Well, let's divide it into many parts. And scatter the parts around the globe."
    Conspirator 1: "Excellent idea."
Conspirator 2: "We can seal the parts in buried vaults, protected with booby traps."
    Conspirator 1: "Great, great!"
Conspirator 3: "And we can intricately document the locations of the vaults, and construction of the traps, with instructions on how to defeat them. Then obfuscate the information with an easily deciphered system of riddles, based on common public information."
Conspirators 1 and 2: In unison, "BRILLIANT!"

Fun fact there is both an official Government and Military typeface. They were originally made as balls for IBM Electric typewriters. They were nicknamed " Government Ball & Military Ball" each is slightly different from each other and civilian versions.

National treasure made me start to like history now I love it and I seen one of the props from the movie. It’s just so fascinating to me also in my opinion, I like the second one better. But that’s only because I like the Lincoln assassination a lot.

Love the prop store. Ive bought quite a few and while im pre approved for the auction as usual i have to hold off on buying more as my wallet is still crying in my pocket. "Feed me!" It says. I do, but im also always using it Xp
First one i bought was a sword from the Warcraft movie

    Fun thought
Someone hiding actual conspiracy level information... in a movie prop about ancient conspiracies. That way anyone who finds it would just dismiss it as 'oh hey the prop makers had fun with this one!'
In all seriousness the propmakers went above and beyond it just looks so damned gorgeous.

But that just repeats the flaw in this kind of book ever existing: Who are you hiding it for?
(That said, mixing untrue information with true information is apparently a classic intelligence technique. It helps discredit the true info if its stolen, as well as undermining the spy who stole it.)
