Ironically in Smogon Singles Keldeo often outperformed many Mythicals with Higher stat totals due to it having better distributed stats. In fact it is apparently one of the best Pokemon in BWOU and was in OU until Sword and Shield.
The ranking is honestly fairly flawed. Having an event shouldn’t factor into if it’s a good Pokemon or not, and its move pool *should.* additionally, what does it matter if it has a high BST if that BST isn’t distributed well? Additionally, alternate forms should be considered part of the same Pokemon. I *am* slightly salty my favorite mythic got the spot for the second set, but even at the start of the video I was thinking that the ranking system was fundamentally flawed.
How pure water and pure steel (probably the best mono types) worst than grass/psychic? The BST rank don't make sense tho. Keldeo and Manaphy are both always going to be special attackers, their attack stat is useless, so Keldeo shouldn't lose in that category: If we remove the useless attack stat, Keldeo got a higher BST 72 - 580 = 508 100 - 600 = 500
I really wish that Hoopa-Unbound was dark/ghost instead of psychic/dark, not only would it be just as fitting lore wise but it would only have one weakness with fairy
@@RoyArkon your correct but it still has that option to become a better Pokémon while phione just stuck being what it is a discount disappointment without a future imo 🤣
@@shyeazykoopa414 Except that Meltan and Melmetal, even though they evolve from each other, are still two different Pokemon. Also Phione has a much better Type and a much better ability, on top of Phione having much better stats than Meltan.
Weird as it is that Keldeo is a mythical yet is also a part of the swords of justice group, its base stats being lower hardly matters when the average mythical is base 100s across the board meaning that if they are offensively oriented, they aren't even using 100 of that BST and Keldeo has plenty of strong moves in its kit and a stat spread built for what it wants to do, but damn that it gets justified for an attack stat it isn't going to use
Zarude would’ve been better if he was the final evolution for grookey instead of rillaboom. I just don’t like rillaboom as much as grookey and twackey. Zarude doesn’t feel like a mythical either but he would’ve been one of the best final starter evolutions. Zarude fits grookey’s evolution line perfectly and I think zarude would’ve made that evolution line possibly the most interesting and best starter line. It would’ve been so cool.
Zarude seen decent usuage in the 2nd to last series of swsh. I know their not as big a feat but I solo'd swsh with zarude (transferred from go so it was lv15) and its an absolute beast in raids and master rank in pogo. I will say it had the worst distribution tho as go to game shop during lockdown was just dumb 😂
I would push back against both hoopa's typing being "bad". Lunala and malamar have the same typing, and both have seen competitive use in doubles and singles respectively even with calyrex shadow running rampant for lunala.
Tbh Meltan and Phione are clearly intended to evolve, but they don’t, neither of them evolve in game, even Meltan once it leaves Pokémon Go does not evolve
Which really sucks, especially for Phione. I have an idea that Phione evolves into Manaphy at Level 35-40 or if they use a strong Water-Type move while Meltan evolves into Melmetal once it reaches Level 20-25 while holding the Metal Coat.
I think that Meltan is the worst one. Pure Steel-Type is excellent defensively but very bad offensively (unlike Phione's Water-Type) , also got the worst stats overall, and it's ability Magneto Pull is only working against one specific Type Pokemon, (unlike Keldeo which does need a very specific conduction to activate Justified but 1) that condition isn't limited to just one Type Pokemon and 2) the effect of the ability can last in the long run). I would go on say that Meltan is even worse than Hoopa, because at least Hoopa has the stats unlike Meltan.
Phione is just kind of an extra one tacked on to Manaphy. Volcanion is probably the most over-designed and least cohesive design, it just looks awkward. Zarude is the most forgettable, it's just kinda there. Zeraora almost falls into the same trap as Zarude but it's saved by a good shiny and viability in battles.
I think the mythicals I was always left completely unimpressed with was always either Phione or the Pixies (Mesprit, Uxie, and Azelf) or even Celebi. Phione because…well I honestly don’t even know why it exists in the first place. It’s just not interesting at all. The Pixies may have had a nice involving in the story during the Platinum game, but as overall mythical they a bland and forgettable. Celebi, I just NEVER got into it. I like the time travel aspect and all, but its design wasn’t always the most appealing thing to me, and as a design as a whole I tie it up with the Pixies as the blandest designs. But if I have to pick just one…I guess Azelf.
Personally Phione isn't mythical. You can breed it infinitely from a Manaphy. I don't believe Meltan or Melmetal count either because you can catch any number of them, and mythicals shouldn't evolve.
Regardless how common or rare the Mythical Pokemon is, to me they're still Mythicals. The main thing is their existence has being questioned, not how many members of ANY Mythical Pokemon species there are roaming around. I think having more than one member of the same species of Mythical Pokemon is a good idea. I also like the idea of Mythical Pokemon being able to evolve, especially if they're intended to evolve. Those things make a Mythical Pokemon unique. Plus, I like the idea of Mythicals being able to breed. And also have discovered genders. Look at the English version of the Pokemon website, they said Diancie can either be male or female, even if it was more of an error unfortunately, and some Mythical Pokemon in Mystery Dungeon. Without those, what would a Mythical Pokemon be?
Arceus is awesome and the God of all Pokémon and honestly should have been a legendary, seriously why isn't he especially with a game named after him. I do think Phione is the weakest and absolutely should evolve into Manaphy it makes no sense for her/it not to.
Finally I'm not the only person that thinks Arceus should have been a legendary instead of a Mythical Pokemon. He's the creator of the Sinnoh region and created the Creation Trio and the Lake Trio. I don't see Arceus as a Mythical Pokemon, but instead a Legendary Pokemon. I agree with Phione should be able to evolve into Manaphy. My idea is Phione evolves into Manaphy at Level 30 at least or if they learn a strong Water-Type move like Hyrdo Pump for example.
My personal, subjective vote goes to Volcanion as the "worst" due to its lack of overall impact. Ever since those good old Kalos Power Plant rumours for the event we never got, nobody's really talked about Volcanion, right? (Besides being the only Fire/Water type). And then, competitively speaking, I don't think it's ever made an impact (compared to, say, Shaymin, who was at least notorious for its powerful Seed Flare before)
Arceus' ability is actually pretty bad when you think about it, even more so after the introduction of Ogerpon, which uses the same dynamic of changing type depending on a held item, but has different abilities depending on the item as well. They didi Arceus dirt.
I feel like you also have to compare their move pools and their base Stat distribution rather than just total. Having a high special attack is great, but it's basically useless if you don't have any good special attacking moves, or if your attack is substantially better. Plus having good attack or sp attack is meaningless if you don't have either good defenses or good speed. In addition some of these pokemon, including hoopa unbound, have signature moves that can make them broken.
There's some nuance to be had in terms of stats, even when theyre the same totals. How well stats complement a typing, movepool, etc can greatly impact a pokemon's viability, and even outside of competitive viability how well those things complement any gimmick a pokemon has can affect how well or negatively it's perceived. For instance - Mew, ancestor of all pokemon? Yeah, it makes sense that it would have perfectly balanced stats and access to every TM. Darkrai, bringer of nightmares? Makes sense it would be scary offensively, have powerful sleep-based moves and abilities (before they nerfed it anyways), and be a Dark type. That's definitely getting into more subjective qualities as well as more actual game knowledge than what you'll get off of tier lists and youtube videos though. You could even average out the Smogon tier rankings throughout all their appearances, but that probably unfairly biases early gens vs late gens - less pokemon means less competition for high spots.

I wonder what is the Case for Legendary Pokémon?
I'd like to see an attempt to objectively measure base stats beyond just base stat total.
Typically, it's better to specialize in a couple stats than to be perfectly well rounded. A Pokemon with base 100 across the board is definitely going to be worse than a Pokemon with 0 Special Attack and 120 in all other stats, despite having the same total.
But what's the best way to measure this objectively?
First, we want to be quantitative. Next, we want to reward high stats more than we punish low stats. Exponents is a great way to do this.
Unfortunately, this raises the rather murky thing of what exponent to use. I'll somewhat arbitrarily pick 1.5.
6*100^1.5=6000 for our base 100 across the board Pokemon.
5*120^1.5=6573 for our 0 in a single stat Pokemon. About 9.5% better.
I'm not spending too much time on this, but that seems reasonable to me. The base 120 model should definitely not score under 20% better than the base 100 version.
