My mechanic wanted to charge me $150 to do this. Watch your video twice replaced it within 20 minutes had to take it off again because I forgot to put the plastic cover on. but you saved me a lot of thank you
@@knockout7611i can see why all these fucking bullshit ass services cost so much. This shit telling me i have to take my whole fucking door off to put on a damn mirror. WTF
Thank you. I watched your video a few times to make sure that I understood the process. I bought the parts and had the video running on my tablet as I worked. A repair that would have run at least $200-300 at a shop cost me $40 and that included a run to the hardware store to get a properly sized rivet. The inside door handle that has been giving up problems for a few years now and broke off in my hand last week is now fixed.
Thank you for making this video. I bought a 99 Tahoe in the same color for my business as an early 20’s starting out. This is super helpful for someone without much money
Thanks! My passanger door handle snapped off a few years ago and just the other day the driver side decided it had enough as well. This was very helpfull and went so smoothly, thank you for sharing!
Excellent video! Love the step by step instructions both verbally and writen out in your "more info" section. The size drill bit is 1/8" to drill out the rivet. Thank you. Keep up the great work it helps so many. God Bless You.
Synchronicity! I’m glad I could help. This job is easier than it looks as long as nothing breaks when you take everything apart. If you were thinking about upgrading your door speakers, now is a good time.
Lisle makes a nifty trim pry tool. Like a bent really wide spade screwdriver that has a slot cut out of the middle of the blade (so you can slide it around a trim snap/fastener). has a red handle and a black rubber fulcrum that slides up and down the shaft. Ingenious tool, i have used it for all kinds of stuff beyond what it's meant for. But trim is a breeze with it.
We're back! Dude we just changed our handle and the one BIG (to us) problem we had was getting the electrical fittings to come apart. Could you maybe ponder a class on how to release different connectors for us old farts who don't know how? Thanks!
Excellent video - makes it look pretty easy to do! I'll be replacing both the drivers interior and exterior door handles along with the window control unit on my '99 Suburban. My drivers side window is currently stuck in the up position, so wondering if this can be done with the window in the up position?
Don't think I'm going to open this can of worms today... My two passengers can roll down the window and let themselves out until spring... Especially the one that broke the handle!
98’ Silverado. Having to do this same thing….video was clear and gave great step by step instructions. One thing I’ve noticed is parts are sometimes hard to come by. Where did you get your door lock assembly?
There’s a link in the description to the door handle. The speakers are standard size replacement speakers that I bought from Crutchfield. I think I could’ve fit bigger ones in there.
Thanks. My son had coronavirus, and he was running the camera. Somehow I didn’t catch it though. Our neighbors knew we were sick, so we had to keep the masks on when we were out in the driveway.
@@hoohoohoblin I was thinking the same thing. Earlier in the video he didn't have a mask then later he's masked up. Karen must have stopped by to remind him.
Was that a Specific Rivet Gun you used? If so, what's the name of it, so that I may get one. Apparently, the one I bought from Home Depot doesn't fit the rivets I got for my for handle.
So annoyed with my door handle now. If I ask my boyfriend to fix it he's gonna break something else. Ugh. If I take it to the shop they're gonna charge an arm and a leg and my bf will say "I can do that for free"🙄 Planning on doing it myself just gotta buy the door handle
What size rivet is it? You use a 1/8" drill bit to take it out, but is that also size of the new rivet, or do you install a smaller one considering the expansion?

You do no have to remove the steel door panel. Drill out the rivet . Take the lock and door rods loose. Put it back together.. Done!!!
Ok but that presents a problem. Accessing the area behind where the door panel goes.

The rod that connects to the door lock slider can be moved by hand to either the locked or unlocked position.

Those metal ones snap off the same mine had those when I bought it and after a few months of owning it it just snapped
Awesome thanks

Is there another way to get the rivet off without using a drill ? I currently don’t have a drill
I got mine off using a grinder for part of it, then a screwdriver and hammer for the rest

No.

Apparently, the one I bought from Home Depot doesn't fit the rivets I got for my for handle.
I just bought the generic one at AutoZone. For a big rivets, you have to buy an extra large sized rivet gun.

Spray the clips with silicone spray to make them not rattle
Thanks. I put a little bit of grease on them.

I agree. Looking at it, you would think you could just pop it out and pop it back in without removing every single thing.
