The thing that makes him so deadly is that if you're weak willed you are forced to clap every time the cymbals do and you end up loosing all of your turns

I, too, thought it seemed too peppy, but after some listening, the driving, aggressive bass guitar sample still gives it this 'advancing' feeling, like the music is illustrating Spuder creeping closer.
It's still intimidating, but in this cartoonish, jazzy sort of way. I love it!

It also sounds like someone using the spiders web strings to strum as part of the song. Also I love this jazzy but intense vibe of the song. Like the spiders taunting you during the fight. You're worried yet excited. The spiders just ready to tangle you up.

As a Paper Mario fan I'm so glad I decided to pick this game up. It's everything I could have wanted but with even more depth on top of it and the writing for Vi, Kabuu and Leif is stellar. It also helps that the OST is full of absolute bangers like this

Same, my heart goes to whoever mentioned it briefly in a comment section, before its release, but unfortunately after the crowdfunding ended. This'll always be my biggest regret. x)
But yeah, it's easy to get cynical with all these "spiritual successors", given how some can turn out... but when they do hit home...! :D
Dang as I have only seen the original games I see why it does well and it actually stays true to what paper Mario does best and improves on the things that did not work well
Just wait until you get to the harder bosses.
It helps not having a silent protagonist, Vi, Leif, and Kabbu are basically the OPPOSITE of silent.

Seriously though, I was shocked to have issues with even the first boss, but the pure strategy and fun embedded in the combat made fighting this guy so satisfying and worthwhile. Plus, it was hard to get tired of the fight when this song slaps so hard.
I know, right!? Even though I was playing with the hard mode badge on, I hadn't expected it to be THAT hard! But I'm glad it was because it was nice to have a challenge and to actually feel like I needed to use items and think carefully about what I was bringing with me and stuff (as opposed to Paper Mario where I just shove on a bunch of power up badges and spam the healing power as needed). It was almost a disappointment when I figured out a medal setup in the late game that made most of the bosses a lot easier to deal with (although I still almost ran out of items on the final boss)
@@CharlotteML1 I wish the code for making the game even harder (not gonna say it in case it spoils someone) made the fight even more difficult, instead it makes it almost a puzzle where you have to figure out the proper order.

@@redking36 There are a few codes that you can discover in the game that will have different effects if you put them as the file name on a new game. You can probably google them if you're interested in what they are. But unlike a normal cheat code, they mostly make the game harder.
1. You can get the hard mode badge before this boss? Interesting.
2. As someone who did not have the hard mode badge on but has very little experience in rpgs, I gotta say, it wasn't too bad. Kabbu was at one hp at the end, but I still had the item that can resurect one of them. I was caught off guard by the special attack the spider did in the middle of the fight, but besides that, it went well.
I try to steal an artifact in a cave and the local spuder attacks me for no reason *while the room is flooding!!!*
So much for being the first team to survive snakemouth...

Exactly the first time I ever heard the name I thought for a second it was a sequel. The game is perfectly set up to work as a series. Well one problem would be dealing with how team snake mouth starts out weak again but many series have to do that.

When I was playing as only Kabbu for this, I had him switch order nonstop because I just wanted to see him spin and dance to this song.

I admit the first encounter I wasn’t nuts over the song, but then when they fought him again at the end of the cave I was super into it. Weird. Now I love it. This game has been super fun and I’m only in Chapter 2. Paper Mario vibes are intense throughout so far.
I feel like the first encounter would be better with a different theme as it’s more of an impending doom scene. The second encounter works very well with the song however. Oh also I am obligated to tell any newcomer the the berserker medal is life.

@@lasagna3289 I’m pretty far. I admit I took a break and have played other games and they’re sort of in the way, but I have made it over to the tower. Can’t remember the name. It’s the place you have to go to after you drop Elizant II off after taking her to the Dome. Also it doesn’t help I’ve been trying to do all the quests and stuff too. Haha

Absolutely, once I heard this track I knew I was in for something special.
I started watching a speedrun of this game to get a feel for whether I'd like it enough to buy it. I got as far as the first time this theme played before I switched off the speedrun and started downloading the game immediately!
I think this is the perfect boss theme for a spider, something about them always made me think they'd like jazz

This was genuinely the moment I realized how good this game was going to be (it bops *hard*), I was less than an hour in and afraid the game wouldn't live up to my expectations but 84 awesome themes, 40 hours, several pieces of fanart and a whole hyperfixation later, my stance has been thoroughly changed

The only problem is that the spider would die too fast and you would only hear he opening. If there was a mod it should make it so that when you are in like a 15 block radius of a spider spawner it plays the theme.

This is a jazzy boss theme, I love it.
The catchiness of the boss theme makes you forget that the room is slowly filling up with water.
And that frankly, the spider would be drown either way.

Can I just say, every single track name in this game kills me. I love it so, so much.
During the 2nd half of the game I found myself being excited for a boss battle not just for the combat, but also to hear it's unique theme. They never really disappointed either. A soundtrack that could rival the likes of Nintendo for sure. Now thats impressive.
Listening to this even after the game has long been out feels really good. I really hope there will be a sequel in the near future

I came back here after spending two hours trying to fight spuder (sorry, I'm not supposed to call him spuder) on the secret hardest mode of the game. And this is just the first boss! This is going to be a difficult playthrough....
