Have been following Pete and watching his demos for a while. And I noticed, that regardless the gear he uses and demos, Pete always sounds aaaaawwweeesome. So the main thing I've learnt so far is that I gotta stop complaining about my gear and quit acquiring new stuff and just learn to play and sound like me. Thanks, Pete :)
Wow, this was an incredibly well-explained and concise demo of a complicated pedal. Very well done Pete. Incredible playing too, particularly on your Suhr at 17:46, amazing change of rhythms! I thought the comparison to the Marshall was very very close. This is not my bag, but I appreciate what a clever bit of kit this is
It would be so good if this was programmable so you could really make the most of the complexity. That way you could save all your favourite presets and it could do soo much!
As always Pete, great informative video by an intelligent, skilled guy which is rare these days with the amount of muppets making guitar videos. You are a trustworthy source of information, mad respect dude.
i watched the videos at the Origin Effects site by Simon, and they really are good. He's a bit of a mad scientist, but he's also a guitar player, and he knows tone. He explains things really well, and if anyone here is interested in this pedal, they owe it to themselves to watch those clips. And they would be invaluable to you if you got the pedal, IMO. Great job Pete!! This makes me start taking inventory, and deciding what to sell to get this pedal! lol
Superb.... the playing, the pedal, and the demonstration of it! My time wasn't wasted, instead I learned something while enjoying some great guitar playing... as I said, SUPERB! Thank you Pete, love your work :)
Except for the drums, which kinda reek of "standard rock-guitar-instrumental" music from a guitar store commercial, I completely agree... I've heard the occasional hint of Jason Falkner-esque melodies in Pete's stuff more than once, and that's definitely a compliment.
Ok Pete that's really crazy good. Don't know how long it took you to get the same amp sound from the solid state amp, but that was wonderfully accurate. Kudos to Origin on this. Very cool pedal.
Shopping for a drive pedal, this looks like the one. Thanx! my knuckles get like that so much more than when I was young, -just from walking from room to room these days :)
Less negative feedback will actually tend to make an amp more responsive to changes in pick attack, etc. The change will be more progressive, though, whereas with more NFB there won't be much difference within a range of intensities, and then it will more abruptly go into heavier distortion once a threshold is crossed.
This is one of those pedals I would DEFINITELY own if I did a bunch of fly dates, amp on stage, amp in studio dates. The thing with me is...I take my bassman, king of tone, tube screamer combo with me everywhere (unless it’s a small stage, low dough affair...then it’s the Ritchie flyrig). So my core sound is basically that. It’s pretty simple and easy to tune. I can absolutely see a context for this pedal though...it’s just not my particular situation. Who knows...maybe it will be at some point.
The tone through the power amp sounded incredibly close. I'd like to know, how did the feel compare? I'm also curious to know if you've tried running other drive pedals into it. From what I've seen so far, this seems like one of the most exciting pedals to come out in the last few years, and there have been a lot of absolutely killer ones released.
Wow Pete! That 1st burst of the pedal after you explained the controls (AC/DC) surprised me. It got nasty in just the right frequencies immediately. Very impressive. Maybe there's a sound (or 10) in there for me? : ) Part of me likes it because it looks like part of star ship weapons ordinance control. But the tones back up the look. Sweet pedal!
No doubting this pedal is really incredible, (here comes the But) But using it Live could turn out to be a bit of a task, you don’t normally get hours to sound check, and all those knobs even if dialled in at home are prone to being moved during transport, however I’d have one for the studio, great demo as usual Pete T
Awesome demo - as always! I thought that the pedal plus poweramp sounded even a bit better than the real Marshall. It was close, but the pedal sounded a bit harmonically richer to me (listening with good headphones). Anyways, the pedal is scary complicated but sounds great dialed in with competent ears.
Amazing piece of gear I to have an early JTM and can match it so damn close its scary. To the guys question about the feel, I think it feels a little better than the Marshall. And it does so much more. I think Simon is a Mad Scientist/Genius.
First of all - Pete, you're the best, thanks for a great review! I know I might be asking a bit too much since this monster is offering so much different stuff but i would like this to work in parallel stereo, valve to L and silicon to R. Since i'm using a stereo rig with 2 different amps I might consider switching to this one. But hey, can I even complain looking at this? Wow!
Very nice "Cranked" tones. If it can do some thick more saturated tones as well , I would want one,. Darn near wroth just for the Cranked tones alone ! Sounds killer in the gain rage Pete had it dialed in for however, I would have liked to hear how much gain it has on tap. If it does High Gain well as it sounds on basic gain, one would not need anything else !
Without midi this pedal could be a tweakers dream or nightmare. Simon doesnt do Digital though! I like what he has done in capturing all his Allman brother amp tones. I guess you have to have a fairly decent amp to use this beast on. It is the price of a Marshall Origin 50 so I think it is for people who understand amps to the nth degree. Two many switches, its kinda of the opposite UI wise to the Helix! For me its going to be for those people who have money to burn! Great demo Pete, but as you say you have to watch Origin video and my eyes glazed over pretty quick!
I can rest easy now as I was a bit worried that there hadn't been another OD pedal released within the last 3 hours! Good thing is they are nice and cheap at around $700 US. WTF!
Hi Pete! Great demo. How useful are the custom panel controls in a real world situation? (especially if wanting to use this live & direct w/ an IR pedal) i’m deciding whether i really need the added features or not. Thanks!
How is it going direct into the board or into a cab simulator? I know a lot of the demos are showcasing how it can inject steroids into your amp. However, I almost always go direct with my guitar and wonder how it sounds on its own. I’m really debating between this and the Effectrode Blackbird.
Well I was selling this very one for $400 free shipping. I’m tired of people staring at it for weeks. I’m losing a ton of money on it. I hooked it up to my quad cortex and my amps. Tried it again. I’ll keep it. Reverb is just getting so slow re selling stuff. Especially, at appropriate prices.
Great demo, great playing but those amps will sound good with the cheapest pedals. Some of the controls would be redundant with amps here for example the rectifier control which is much more important with a power amp.It is versatile though and if this is your main sound generator its actually fairly cheap...
Hi Pete, I am a huge fan! Thanks for making these great video’s. Question, what is the device on the Suhr Bella amp. I see this in al lot of video’s. Thanks Pete! Best regards from the Netherlands!
This a great sounding pedal, but at $649 U.S. It's out of reach for the average weekend warriors to spend on an overdrive. I guess if you bought a cheap amp that has a good clean sound you could use it for your gains.
Hi Luis, sorry this is late ! I run it into a Laney L5 head clean, 0.5 watt setting to a 2 x 12 cab with 1 x Celestion V Type and 1x A type. I aim for 80-85 db to keep neighbours friendly and it sounds much like Pete's demo. I've tried lots of pedals and this really seems to be different at the kind of level I need, I sold a few other pedals as soon as I got it, it's that good. It's also good value compared to buying a low watt boutique amp which I was considering.
sounds great...how is the stereo widening being achieved? Makes a big difference than as a pure mono demo...and perhaps just a little hyped, for lack of a better term.
+Jonny Stuart which part? Solos I usually add echo. Rhythm gits have a bit of verb and room mics from the ox. The Marshall/Revival section is just mono mic’d cab.
I was referring to when you started switching between just the amp and then adding the Revival Drive, e.g. @ 8:48. I guess that's one of your rhythm tracks from the song. It sounds quite good--just seemed the stereo seemed m much wider once the drive kicked in (compared to just amp) but maybe that's just the effect of hotter signal. Just curious. BTW: you say Silicon(e) the way many people I know say it. :)
Sounds awesome but I can’t understand a pedal thats able to do so much but only lets you get 2 sounds out of it on the fly. Preset/midi capability would’ve taken it to another level.
It is all analog so not sure preset and midi could have been added. It is true no one is going to be bending down to change settings to get different tones from this pedal in a live situation so it begs who is this for. In my mind this is for studio or home playing where you have the time to change the settings. Might be worth it for a gigging musicians who are always playing backline amps.
It can be added :) Look at Chase Bliss pedals or the new RambleFX kismet, that is analog parts controlled digitally :) dont know why not every pedal does that
Kirsten Ray yeah, as soon as I saw it, I thought: who even needs that amount of tweakery , then realized it is the ultimate backline fix for touring journeyman/woman guitarists. I will never need it. Or want to spend hours mastering how to tweak it, but he got some killer sounds from it eh?!
Yeah, want midi! Even the integration into a switching system is an afterthought and requires another add on product. The way the external footswitch was configured, I find a bit odd. Once I can remotely switch channel and activate the midboost with my GigRig, I am hooked
Pete, I gotta think that if you found yourself a singer like Scott Weiland (Minus the drugs) you would blue everyone's even more. I am always eager to hear your material. You ever think of linking up with a singer?

That Marshall v.s Pedal/Power Amp comparison was absolutely amazing!!!! WOW!
Damn, the Origin into the Matrix pretty much NAILED the Marshall tone, unbelievably close match. Wow
This pedal sounds ridiculously good.
Paul Hudgins Pete sounds ridiculously good !
U2WB that is why companies pay him much 💰 to demo. This is his job.
Running it straight into the power amp was very impressive! Hard to believe it can come that close to recreating the Marshall.
I have this one and a Tone Master Deluxe Reverb and I'm very happy with it.
The pronunciation of 'silicon' was perfectly fine for us Brits Pete! Cheers for a totally badass demo (again)
Oh my, looks like you have the new TC2290 interface on your desk. 🤩🤩🤩
Wow, this was an incredibly well-explained and concise demo of a complicated pedal. Very well done Pete. Incredible playing too, particularly on your Suhr at 17:46, amazing change of rhythms! I thought the comparison to the Marshall was very very close. This is not my bag, but I appreciate what a clever bit of kit this is
You know who’s a creative force? Pete Thorn.
word; he's great!
Best pedal demos keep me coming back.
Pete and Satriani...my two fav guitarists. :)
Dude, Pete your the best man! Always informative, the best mix between playing and talking! Love your channel man!
This reminds me of what Tech 21 did a very, very, very long time ago with the Sans Amp.
It would be so good if this was programmable so you could really make the most of the complexity. That way you could save all your favourite presets and it could do soo much!

Larry Lachmann same here on the inventory lol
Finally got to spend some time with one of these, it sounds awesome and feels really good to play. I need one...
Can the Revival Drive do low gain, slow hand blues / John Mayer tones?
Truly great sounds you've gotten out of that. Awesome pedal, great demo.
Superb.... the playing, the pedal, and the demonstration of it! My time wasn't wasted, instead I learned something while enjoying some great guitar playing... as I said, SUPERB! Thank you Pete, love your work :)
Awesome playing and great sound!
this guy does the best gear reviews
Awesome review of the fantastic Revival Drive. Way to go Pete!
This might be the best pedal I’ve ever heard
Nice to see you use that Tech21 Geddy Lee Bass rack pre.. I was going to pick one of those up for tracking myself.. now I know how they can sound!
the opening reminded me of some of Jason Falkner's solo stuff and The Grays. great stuff, Pete!
Except for the drums, which kinda reek of "standard rock-guitar-instrumental" music from a guitar store commercial, I completely agree... I've heard the occasional hint of Jason Falkner-esque melodies in Pete's stuff more than once, and that's definitely a compliment.

Hey Pete! Thanks for the video.....sounds like a great pedal!
Your demos and reviews are superb really detailed and i sure wish I could play guitar like you do lol.

Rock on dude.
Oh yes, wicked pedal too.

Really amazing drive.
Great music Pete! Keep them coming!
Wow Pete!

Awesome!!! Very versatile!!!
Great stuff, Pete! Excellent sounding drive pedal. One of the best I've heard I think. Also, did I just see a the new TC 2290 in the back there? ;-)
Awesome thanks Pete
Super bad ass play Pete Thorn! Dam great sounds cheers to ya.
Great stuff, cool to see the 2290
Amazing piece of gear I to have an early JTM and can match it so damn close its scary. To the guys question about the feel, I think it feels a little better than the Marshall. And it does so much more. I think Simon is a Mad Scientist/Genius.
Pete Thorn's always a SUHR thing haha! Love your licks man!
Genuine holy sh*t moment when you did the tone match to the JMP. That was amazing!
Awesome review Pete!
Wow!
Any stompbox with that many knobs HAS to be good!
Great track Pete!
i have a tube zone overdrive best pedal ever with blackstar ht and jackhammer
Holy frickin crap that's some hot geetar pickin... : )
Very nice "Cranked" tones. If it can do some thick more saturated tones as well , I would want one,. Darn near wroth just for the Cranked tones alone ! Nice. As always, but where is the 3rd part of your new pedalboard? :)
I haven't spent much time yet with it but I haven't had a tone get even close to a drive yet..
Pedal has foot pedal
Without midi this pedal could be a tweakers dream or nightmare. Simon doesnt do Digital though! I like what he has done in capturing all his Allman brother amp tones. Another great video, Imho, I think you nail it. Pete, What are your 2 favorite od/distortion pedals???
Wow! That's sooo impressive (so is the pedal). But - does it clean up from the guitar the way a real on-MV valve amp would?
FangPaw yes it will, watch the origin video and he will show you!
Ian Thomas - you're right (I watched all the vids). Thanks for that. It really is an amazing piece of kit.
Sounds great no matter where you do it!
Hey, Pete. Thanks for the professional and thorough demo. Do you think this will find its way onto your board?
I can rest easy now as I was a bit worried that there hadn't been another OD pedal released within the last 3 hours! Good thing is they are nice and cheap at around $700 US. WTF!
Hi Pete! Great demo. How useful are the custom panel controls in a real world situation? (especially if wanting to use this live & direct w/ an IR pedal) i’m deciding whether i really need the added features or not. Thanks!
sounds awesome but am afraid to ask how much it costs lol. Bound to be silly money.
Excellent demo and sounds. So many knobs are a tad scary ;-)
Stellar demo:D!! Right way to start my day! Is that the new 2290 in the desk?
How is it going direct into the board or into a cab simulator? I know a lot of the demos are showcasing how it can inject steroids into your amp. However, I almost always go direct with my guitar and wonder how it sounds on its own. I’m really debating between this and the Effectrode Blackbird.
Super !!!
Hi Pete! Have you ever tried the Tech 21 Plexi? They actually plugged that pedal also into one of their transistor power amps and it sounded ok!
Had a look at this today, very impressed, but no way I could afford it.
What's with the little white Christmas lights in the background? My daughter has those in her bedroom - she's 14.
Great demo, great playing but those amps will sound good with the cheapest pedals. Some of the controls would be redundant with amps here for example the rectifier control which is much more important with a power amp.It is versatile though and if this is your main sound generator its actually fairly cheap...
How would you compare the Revival drive to the Suhr Eclipse ?
Hi Pete, I am a huge fan! Thanks for making these great video’s. Question, what is the device on the Suhr Bella amp. I see this in al lot of video’s. Thanks Pete! Best regards from the Netherlands!
So is the a preamp in the way Tech 21 has the character preamps?
I bet this pedal would be amazing with a good wah as you experiment with the ghost notes function. Thx Pete!
This a great sounding pedal, but at $649 U.S. It's out of reach for the average weekend warriors to spend on an overdrive. I guess if you bought a cheap amp that has a good clean sound you could use it for your gains.
Hi Pete. Your reviews are awesome. One question for you or any person who has tried the pedal. Does it sound like a cranked amp at bedroom volume?
Hi Luis, sorry this is late ! I run it into a Laney L5 head clean, 0.5 watt setting to a 2 x 12 cab with 1 x Celestion V Type and 1x A type. I aim for 80-85 db to keep neighbours friendly and it sounds much like Pete's demo. I've tried lots of pedals and this really seems to be different at the kind of level I need, I sold a few other pedals as soon as I got it, it's that good. It's also good value compared to buying a low watt boutique amp which I was considering.
jake Excellent!!! Thanks.
sounds great...how is the stereo widening being achieved? Makes a big difference than as a pure mono demo...and perhaps just a little hyped, for lack of a better term.
+Jonny Stuart which part? Solos I usually add echo. Rhythm gits have a bit of verb and room mics from the ox. The Marshall/Revival section is just mono mic’d cab.

It can be added :) Look at Chase Bliss pedals or the new RambleFX kismet, that is analog parts controlled digitally :) dont know why not every pedal does that
They put so much in the first version, they have to hold out on presets and midi until the second version ;-)
Should I sell my Van Weelden "Royal Overdrive" to buy this? I realize that's subjective, but...
The JMP has more life. How is this pedal compared to the AX8? Does it feel better to use?
Hey Pete, great video and awesome playing. I have a question and I think you’re very qualified to answer it: Bring it that I already own this pedal and I know it can get very close or even replicate many vintage & classic sounding amps, do you think it would be worth spending the money on some of UAD’s amazing classic amp plugins like the Plexi, Bluesbreaker and the Fender 55 tweed? I’m asking cause my new Apollo Twin MKII quad and the Two-notes cab M both arrive tomorrow. I also picked up that 3 UA plugins bundle for $399 which at one point I thought was crazy until I realized just how awesome they basically all are. Originally got them so I could get the Lexicon 480, the NEVE88 channel strip and the SSL bus compressor. The problem is that after hearing their amps I was amazed and my initial reaction was to get amp plugins instead but of the Origin Drive plus the CAB M can replicate those sounds, then I can go back to just opting for the mixing plugins I mentioned. Sorry for the long-winded comment I just wanna make sure I use my “3 wishes” wisely since they were so expensive. Thank you for the great video again!
529 $ and the custom version 649 $ i wonder if its analog or if it is like a loaded thing with some stems ,, like a Kamper ? or the FX one ?
Silly cone.... 😇 Sorry man. Just had to write it down... Love your stuff 😁❤️
I guess Origin Effects found a way to do something new with drive pedals. The only thing better would be digital control of analog drive with presets.
Couldn't agree more. How they could put the level of tweakability in that they have, and not have midi control, is beyond me. Great pedal all the same.
Hey Pete, I LOVE the color of that guitar, but I don't see that color available on your sig model on the Suhr site. How can I get one in that color?
+Keith Frey that’s odd, I’ll look into it. It is a new color we introduced this year-available now, you can order it
Is it just me or was the pedal solid state amp just a little bit better than the 71marshall? I'm just saying...
Awww, Pete. Hope you didn’t miss ‘Tone Talk’ with M.J. From Seymour Duncan!
+cyanidejunkie I did! Dammit!
Hey Pete, how come you never make any mistakes?
+Da Guvna I record the good takes! :)
Great demo. I'd love to have one, but for the same price, I could buy a mint condition Vox AC15. Absolutely at the top of the boutique effect pedals, but as anyone who'd have the money for this probably already has a Tube Screamer, and a variety of other overdrives/distortions, and has probably already settled on a few sounds that they rotate, this is pretty much an expensive novelty/toy, and a difficult expense to justify.
my thoughts exactly, i figure for that price i bought a fender hot rod deluxe and some overdrive pedals and i get a solid overdrive tone + a tube amp.. not ready to take the dive on this one. would rather keep my rig and add a univibe pedal or a more diverse reverb pedal like the oceans 11 stereo pedal.. but this thing does sound darn good, for the average working musician i'd say its not in the budget..
Can this thing get into modded JCM800 territory for a thrash sound?
I wouldn't say so but if you hit it with a SD1 maybe...? would be pretty killer
Pete Thorn It absolutely nails the plexi sound. At the very least it would sound like a plexi with an sd1 which isn't a bad sound.
I pronounce "silicon" in the same way, and I don't get why it should be different from "icon", and why it should sounds like "mexicAn" instead.
What advantages would this pedal have, say over a Dumble, which I can also afford?
It’s not going to have any advantages over a dumble. Except for price, I have a two rock silver and I still use this pedal too
@@keithremedy Nice! I was just making a reference to the Simpsons though :)
Impressive
