    4dr manual trans w/ manual transfer case, that's a rare bird my friend. Awesome truck.

      I was quite shocked to see a 4dr with a manual. Didn't even know they existed.

    my ranger never raises the needle, I'm going to change that indicator, do you think I'll fix it?

      You can check the gauge by grounding the plug like I say in the video. If the gauge goes full hot, the wiring is good and the sensor is bad.

    I have an explorer 96 4.0 what happens is that I already changed the bulb and I did the test to check that the needle goes up the dashboard if it works but the bulb doesn't tick I don't know if it's because it doesn't have a thermos

    HI Great video,, tks,, I have this problem ,, By any chance do you know where the ENGINE NUMBER is stamped on the block, I am in Ireland and have bought one of these in Spain and I am currently trying to import it into the country, I am being restricted by the fact the car import office want the engine number and this is not stamped on any of my documents,,, any help is very welcome .. tks in advance,,,

    This is technically the ECT (engine coolant temperature) sending unit for the dash gauge (one wire), the ECT sensor is a 2 wire unit which tells the ECU (computer) the current operating temperature of the engine.

      @nates831  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Correct sir! Sometimes it is easier to keep it simple when explaining a simple problem though. Most computer controlled engines have several temp sensors.

      @Desert-edDave 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nates831 Yes sir indeed, just thought I would add that bit of info should anyone get confused between the two. I had been confused between them on the same engine, ended up replacing one unnecessarily.

      What if grounding it out does not cause any movement in the gauge?

  • @frankdenardo8684
    @frankdenardo8684 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That part has been in there since it was brand new. Would this work if the needle goes too high but drops back to normal?

    • @nates831
      @nates831  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Usually if the temp gauge works, it is not this sensor. If the temp is climbing too high and then dropping, it may mean there is air trapped in the system or the water pump is going bad.

      Honestly man I would go after the thermostat first they are cheap and it’s a very simple process to change it.

    On our Expoler 1993 the same problem we put a new water sensor, the clock hand does not move again. what to do next

    • @nates831
      @nates831  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check that the gauge works by grounding the sensor wire to the engine block. If the gauge reads full hot the wiring is good and you have a bad sensor.

    I am having the exact same issue. But I am also using failsafe thermostats. I realixe the sensor is the issue as my ENTIRE system is with in the last year piece by piece new water pump radiator thermostat(s) and heatercore. I shoukd have known it was a simple sensor.
    I plan to replace the thermostat anyway as the failsafe's lock open. And I want heat!!! Michigan winter. lol thank you for the informstion the prceedure looks simple.

    Hi Nate!
    I see that you have the Rear antilock light on, I have the same problem, do you know how to fix it?
    Thanks for your videos!

    • @nates831
      @nates831  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have never looked into the rear antilock on these Fords. I would say that usually there is a speed senor on the transmission output or rear axle which the computer uses to determine slip. Most of the time the light comes on because the computer isn't seeing a reading from that sensor for some reason.

    Hi I have a question
    My 4/4 switch doesn’t do anything I found the power there 12-15 bolts I replaced with another from eBay also I replaced the motor on the transfer case no luck
    Do you know how to diagnose electric components
    Relays etc?
    Thanks

    • @nates831
      @nates831  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am pretty good at electronics. That said, my Fords have all been manual transfer cases, so I have never had to mess with the electronic ones.

      I didn't let the engine warm up all the way, so the temp didn't get that high. I just wanted to see if it was working. Thanks for watching.
