Wow, thanks everyone for listening. This is Lisa, I was the singer in this band and thank you so much for liking our music. That was over 20 years ago, I don't know who converted this to digital format but whoever you are, thank you so much! I have not heard this in 20 years and it's so surreal to hear it again. The second song, omg it was so hard to sing "I am dying too" all in one breath. I hope you all enjoy and please keep this genre of music going. My latest favorite is "Explosions in the Sky" please support them they are truly into our kind of sound.
+Lisa Baer -Has anyone considered digitizing the demo tape? Do you or others have ownership of the tape? Your music was/is too good to slip away permanently.
Please tell your mom that she helped make such amazing, ethereal music, and that my favorite is Porcelain. I hope you're all doing well with all this madness going on. :)
As a ethereal-shoegaze fan from the late 80's-early 90's this was certainly one that wouldnt have been a true hit, please tell your Mom this was an amazing find on here ! God Bless
Eric shea is a good friend of my dads they grew up playin in bands together, when Eric found out I liked Shoegaze and I was in rehab he sent me a rare limited edition of scenic porcelain fall, and a long letter that was super nice great guy and great band
This collection, along with others on TH-cam, make me think about the hundreds, or thousands of aspiring bands that made records that never got heard outside their hometowns, at best. Dreams.
Well, they enjoyed making their music, so I think that's fine. 99% of great music was played before recording was invented, and was never written down. Even if I don't get to hear it ,it's fine, it isn't about me. It's about the people who played it and the few who did hear it and enjoyed it.
Since I knew Panchinko (and their album "Deathmetal") were not really a vintage band but a marketing strategy, I cannot trust 100% in all the music I found on internet affirming they are hidden gems. But I hope this case were real, I can still enjoy this music, Even If they are not really a 90's band, they do smazing music tho
1992 was the year when I was a Junior/Senior in HS, and this was the kind of music that my lonely, lost and insecure heart needed to hear, but never knew existed. It is now 2023 and all those feelings from my teenage years come rushing back in as I close my eyes and think of all the memories of my youth, my friendships that no longer exist, school crushes that I wish I took a risk on, and the sadness of living at home that is now a lifetime ago. It's a drive down memory lane that I feel obligated to think about every few years just to show how far I've come and how it made me the person that I am today. Not all of it great, but what it just is, and I thank Ozean for creating such beautiful music in guiding me down that road.
This makes you think about all the amazing bands and musicians who, for whatever reason, didn't "make it"....they sure DID make it and it sounds pretty wonderful
This is sad. There was an American band that could have possibly rivaled Lush had it had a chance. It's amazing and makes me wonder what other treasure was lost and/or buried by the music industry. I hope there is a chance of starting up again. People would like to hear this. They just don't know it yet.
I honestly and firmly believe this set of songs beat the hell out of anything done by slowdive and lush and every other dreamy band from that era. They were so ahead of their time. So much it saddens me they weren't able to keep making more music
dude it has been 20 years! 😂 they could make music again now, for sure, since there are better ways to share your work, but I am pretty sure everyone that was in the band doesn't have the same fuel as they did back then - and if everyone is still alive, they're likely living a very different lifestyle
Once again, i confess i just clicked on the photo of a beautiful girl and i ended up bewitched by the music. That guitar riff in "Scenic" is very similar to The Cure's "Pictures of you". Anyway, this band shines for itself, specially the delicate voice of the girl and the oneiric effect of her echoes. Charming music, thanks for sharing...
I've had a youtube account since the early 2000's and have never been the least bit compelled to leave a comment on anything until listening to this. I hope that more people leaving comments will encourage the musicians behind this to officially release their tracks, or at the very least continue to make music. These tracks are truly amazing and I'd consider it a hate crime against humanity if this went unnoticed/if the people behind this did anything other than continue to create and share their music.
I can honestly say this is the best thing I've ever blindly stumbled upon on TH-cam. It's the perfect mixture of Slowdive (my favorite band ever), and The Cocteau Twins, done in an original way with its own unique sound. Also, I dig the bass in all three songs, reminds me of Peter Hook of Joy Division / New Order fame. Classic. I'd throw money at a re-release of this in a heartbeat!
I got this as a random YT suggestion in 2023. As a guy who spent his teenage years in the 90s in bands and listening to just alternative and 'beautiful' music, I can't believe I never heard of Ozean. I can tell you they would've been the favourite band of 15-year old me (well, after The Cure). They remind me of MBV, Cocteau twins, Slowdive someone said here before... but they are none of them. Very special music. Lisa's voice is beautiful... and the mix is such a pleasure to listen to. I'm amazed, I need to get more of them.
Gorgeous sound. Just read all the comments and was deeply saddened on reading one of the band members, Marc, died 20 years ago. Even brought tears to my eyes. Heart goes out to the others.
Porcelain takes me to another plane. It is like hearing music transmitted from a distant galaxy. At the same time it evokes so many images of nature. A sense of wholeness with everything. It brings me peace.
Sounds like The Daysleepers. Awesome sound. Shoegaze/Dream Pop is that one genre I can't get away from, found it in the late 00s after I graduated high school. Shoegaze might never be popular again like it was in the 90s but the sound will never die. I love that I can always come back to the sound and find something new.
I'm new to dream pop and shoe gaze. After listening to so many other big bands, Ozean far surpasses them all. I could listen to these three gems forever. They are so good.
born and raised in the sound of 60's,the heatwave of change during the 80's,the garage revival, and the psychedelic trans later, and today now im seeking a new path to walk in music again as a musician/composer,and the 80's are hunting me and fill my soul with tears of joy and nostalgia such as this amazing 3 songs i discover tonight...... Thank you guys so much for making me feel like home!!!
Considering how good these three songs are and the fact that they were dubbed off of cassette and not even digital media, this makes me feel sorry that this band didn't exist ten or fifteen years later, when the ability to promote your music on the internet took off. The gatekeeping for music media back then was much harder to get through.
Shed a tear on my first listen, definitely one of the most ethereal tracks I've heard. Thanks for the good underground music! The female vocals are angelic.
Dear Lisa Baer. I consider myself a pretty obsessive music fan who fronted his own band for over 12, long, hard, expensive but FANTASTIC years. I cannot believe that in that time (hey, I'm 47 now so the 90s were MY era!!) I never once heard your sublime, uplifting music. Never too late. May I wish you all the best for the 2017 release - and keep us all informed. Take care, Duncan (from Brighton, UK) : - ) x
Im a radio Dj and a huge fan of the Dream pop genre among so many other great genres but I want to say that I love love love the sound of this group Ozean! Never heard them til tonight but would play them on my radio shows any day!
fall in love every night, in your dreams, she is real, just because she isn’t in the waking world doesn’t mean she doesn’t matter, because memories and dreams are one and the same, and she is always perfect in both. it’s always a summertime pool party, or maybe running through a snowstorm holding hands, or something in between. and you’re always in your youth, and nobody does dumb stuff, they just cruise classic cars that are really jalopies but they were cool in your mind, and you never run out of gas, and it’s always peaceful, and every kiss lasts forever and it’s perpetual bliss. S H O E G A Z E
This is one of the best unexpected things I've heard in years. It's a shame this couldn't have gotten out when it would be appreciated by a greater audience than us music geeks.
Just wow, I stumbled onto this brilliance just now at 46. I don't even know what to say, its just beautiful. Would've been great to have heard this 20 years ago. Better late than never I suppose. 🥰🎶🎵
Have to admit, I clicked because of the girl in the thumbnail, but holy shmoly, the music is just perfect. They'll undoubtedly be compared to Cocteau Twins (and some early Cure), but that's not a bad thing! I will be buying this... this... this OASIS OF LIFE in the desert of modern musical hell.
This is so pure and soothing. The comparison to early Slowdive work is obvious, but it is absolutely meant as a huge compliment. I love the internet for stories like this one of music reappearing after such a long time (another example being Sibylle Baier's splendid music that was released by her son). As a kid born in 1992, this demo feels really special.
WOW! WOW! WOW! I was recently thinking how dire the TH-cam recommendations are. Then suddenly I see this. 3 beautiful dream pop songs from the early 90's. What a voice you have Lisa! Dig the bass lines and other instrumentation, melodies, harmonies. What I love the most is the nostalgic 'recorded to 8 track tape and released on cassette' quality. So warm and authentic, myriad imperfections, tape saturation, creamy brilliance. I'm blown away. Cream of the crop. Observation- Melody on Scenic immediately reminded me of a song called 'EgoTripping at the Gates of Hell' from the album 'Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots' by The Flaming Lips released in 2002. You are in very good company there!
Im a guitarist heavily into shoegaze and post rock, and you guys are very very good. All the 3 songs are brilliant. I especially loved Scenic very much. That song is what dream pop should strive to be! I would earnestly request you guys to consider re-forming again if possible and record more stuff. Not only will it make you guys known to the world and will give us shoegazers really good new work , it will also make all of you really happy. I know everyone gets really busy with their lives but never ever give up on what you love doing.

If this had somehow reached the ears of Ivo at 4AD back in '92 then fortune might have taken a very different turn for Ozean. Perhaps they just found themselves drowned out by a few too many other bands of that that type at the time. Anyway, thanks for taking us all briefly back to this long-gone world. Was it really a whole 30 years ago? That's life: blink and you miss it.
Listening to this and reading the story and the coments below really warms my heart. This is such an amazing demo, and to see you really wanna work on it again after 24 years later really inspires me. I really look up to what happens next with Ozean. Good luck.
I am absolutely floored by these comments that share the same sentiment as I do. I just happened to see this cover page in facebook and was paralyzed at how stunningly beautiful Lisa is here (kinda looks like my wife) and I could not move. This was 2 days ago. This will go down as the most mystical and enigmatic uncovering of music in my Life. Beautiful sound. Abrupt disappearance of band. And then what’s left is the context of all these comments and our insatiable appetite for more info, more music, more of this ethereal unknown...
Una banda excelente que se adelanto 20 años a su tiempo , con sonido cristalino y potente. Lastima que exista muy poco material grabado de ellos. Mil gracias por subir esta verdadera obra de arte.
An excellent band that went ahead 20 years in time, with crystal clear and powerful. It's a shame that there is very little recorded footage of them. Thank you for uploading this true work of art.
@@subs4794 I would not say copying, just representing a genre of their time, and doing so quite well. People always tend to use this "ahead of its time" phrase, because they seem to believe that anything decent from the distant past must be something exceptional, a mere accident.
In 2009 at Mera Luna festival in Hildesheim, I heard a song between the sets, that was song of my life. very dreampopy. If only I could listen to it again, I would probably cry for days. never occured to me to dog into dreampop because it was cubergoth festival and thought more about neogoth darkwave, sometimes sounds converge a lot, but I think I should dig into this genre now. I havent listened to anything like this in years, youtube suggested this and I feel so refreshed and nostalgic 💜❤
That's why I love the format that music is released today. One can skip the music industry entirely, and post their music on different social media formats like this one. Only if the technology was available in 1992. How many more bands would we have been exposed to that could of become big and/or influential?
I love it! It gives me peace ... It makes me feel like I'm in heaven...Lisa, Ozean is incredible, I've never heard anything like that. I love your voice! Greetings from Uruguay!

Listening to this and reading the story and the coments below really warms my heart. This is such an amazing demo, and to see you really wanna work on it again after 24 years later really inspires me. I really look up to what happens next with Ozean. Good luck.
Beautiful and dreamy , should be put on platinum disc and sent in space to represent earth. well side of humanity .
They signed up with Numero Group who are going to reissue their music.
This is insanely good. Her voice is mesmerizing. It sounds like a dream.
They don't call it "Dreampop" for nothing. 😉😎✌️
Why did these guys leave such a great proyect? Their music is pretty amazing
Una banda excelente que se adelanto 20 años a su tiempo , con sonido cristalino y potente. Lastima que exista muy poco material grabado de ellos. Mil gracias por subir esta verdadera obra de arte.
slow dive
Great early 90's shoegaze tunes. I would totally see this live
I love these songs, especially the last one "Scenic". It's so breathtaking & beautiful.
Nice. Kinda like Slowdive. This has a wonderfully deep sound. Plunging Basslines, gorgeously gaseous vocals and such a lovely spacious sound overall.
Scenic is beautiful. Music never dies as long as we reach for it and keep it alive.
The music, the vibes and the picture remind me in the best way possible of Slowdive.
definitely getting that vibe - especially the song Scenic.
It's decent stuff, yet def copying Cocteau Twins, Slowdive and shoegaze from the 80s/90s.
An excellent band that went ahead 20 years in time, with crystal clear and powerful. It's a shame that there is very little recorded footage of them. Thank you for uploading this true work of art.
How was this ahead of it's time? It's just copying Cocteau Twins and shoegaze from the 80s/90s.
@@subs4794 I would not say copying, just representing a genre of their time, and doing so quite well. People always tend to use this "ahead of its time" phrase, because they seem to believe that anything decent from the distant past must be something exceptional, a mere accident.
loveliest voice for a lovely band.
Soooo gooood !I feel like my soul took a shower!
reminds me of slowdive. absolutely love it
Listened to everyday since i first heard this 10 days ago
Better 25 years late then never! Dear god this is awesome.
It makes me feel like I'm in heaven...Lisa,
Ozean is incredible, I've never heard anything like that. I love your voice! Greetings from Uruguay!
Amazing , i've no words to describe what i feel when i listen to this .
Oh, I really got goosebumps and shivering down my spine at some moment. That happens quite rarely when it comes to music. Wonderful!
absolutely beautiful dreamy excellence, I'm definitely shining a torch for this band
I love it. Its a fresh slice of 90s that Ive never experienced.
You are the unknown princess of shoegaze. Absolutely beautiful.
They should have sent the tape to John Peel in the UK.
Omg yes!! Sadly, the bass player who also arranged the percussion on the songs died soon after recording these
Hold the UK accountable for their crimes against humanity!!!
@@andthen8757 At least unlike Japan they don't have yet to give a public apology for giving the world karaoke
Holy Crap! This is beautiful!!! If Julee Cruise was on Creation Records in 1992.
Nailed it!
This has to become available. I need to own this.
I wasn't expecting much, but this was beautiful and brought a smile to my face!
You can friend request me on Facebook but please also send a private message so I know you are here for the music...I have a little more to share if you really like what we did.
This is GREAT! Sorry I missed this when it was released but late than never. ......"You ROCK!"
Very heavenly voices like "COCTEAU TWINS".... but it's a good band !
Oh wow - this is gorgeous. Ozean have an oceanic sound. I love this. So good that we finally get to hear this band.
I recently found this music and fell in love right away..... Beautiful! !!
I rarely put a comment in TH-cam, but, this one... IT'S REALLY BEAUTIFUL! So dreamy
isso é algo que não consigo descrever, apenas sentir
This is great stuff. I wish I'd heard this in 1992
tbh...
revisit it every once in a while. all this information noise there is thesedays, it feels incredibly nice to stop by on this one
truly a plesant little corner of the internet. what a find. and its especially humbling that the band itself is aware that it was unearthed. thanks for making it, its a very enjoyable piece of music
Lisa Bear, this is incredible music!!! You deserve as much attention for this amazing music as Slowdive has nowdays!!!
This art goes right to the point... a blurry inner point I doubt to know in this life.
glad to hear this. reminds me gladly of Cocteau Twins echoes.....looking forward to hearing more in 2018!
This is one of those suggested videos that I knew the second I heard it, I would like it. Needless to say this is audible heaven.
From the end of the world, just i can say, fantastic sound, of a missing time, From Chile, let not the flame die out!!!!!
