- Spider Murphy is one of the most significant characters in Cyberpunk 2020 lore, but she only makes a brief appearance in Cyberpunk 2077 during a Johnny Silverhand memory sequence. Not much is mentioned about Spider’s life before and after the attack on Arasaka Tower but we can build a pretty complete picture of the famous netrunner by digging into the tabletop books. And that’s what we’re going to do today.

The same VA who voiced Misty and Spider Murphy also voiced Meredith Stout which I would've never guessed before seeing the credits
I caught on how she used her Futaba voice for both, but never caught on that she was Stout too.
It’s Erika Lindbeck. Also the voice of Cassie Cage in Mortal Kombat 11 (replacing Ashley Burch), Jessie in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and MagieLou in Tales of Berseria. I know my voice actors, and I am quite an Erika Lindbeck fan. She’s become pretty prolific like Steve Blum.

So is Kerry Eurodyne who looks even younger, like a man in his 30s despite also being 70+ years old. Them life extension methods of the future are really something.
Theory here: the body stayed "preserved" because it was in freezer that was actually recently dumped. In one of the gigs (Many Ways to Skin a Cat, at Rever Courier Service, if I recall correctly) there is a message on one of the computers about a freezer being held since the 2020s that is due to be thrown out since the account is no longer being payed up.

This sounds about right from what I remember too. It will be really interesting to see how all of this ties together with what's going on beyond the black ice and the other AIs inhabiting bodies

Explains the preserved nature and why it was so "accessible", truck straight up dropped it the week of V's story taking place.
I thought that shard was talking about the fridge you can find rache bartmoss in.
The simple fact that there's still ice cubes and the body is still intact makes me think exactly this connection. If the ice box had been there alot longer, the body would have been a liquefied slop.
Bartmoss has to be the wildest character in the universe. Dude managed to digitize himself and then make a date the day he crashed the Old Net.
Fun little sidenote: Spider Murphy was originally (or so I've read somewhere, but can't remember exactly where) the character of Lisa Pondsmith, Mike Pondsmith's wife, in the TTRPG. Just like Morgan Blackhand is Mike's character.
Close, but Mike's Player character was Ripperjack, a Techie. But he's played Morgan, and Johnny before..
murphy is still around. There is a show on the rock radio where the presenter describes a convo he had with her. He doesn't refer to her by name ofc but it is abundantly clear who he's talking about

So what you're saying, is that Spider Murphy retired, found religion, and opened a New Age shop called 'Misty's Esoterica.' You know, I always figured that Misty could afford to go days without customers because Vik was independently wealthy, and simply paid for her and her shop to act as a front for his back alley ripper clinic. Now it's clear I was wrong, and I had it backwards.
It also conveniently explains why Misty knew what drug would unleash Johnny in V's mind. Relic 2.0 is derived from Soulkiller, and Spider Murphy is already intimately familiar with that. It could also explain why V see tarot cards all over the place, that conveniently look exactly like Misty's deck, despite V not really knowing what tarot cards were beforehand. Misty probably slipped some code into V's OS while they were laid up after the heist, in order to try and help them out.

When i first got into the game i honestly thought there was a connection between Spider murphy and maelstrom, because maelstrom's symbol is a spider with a tech like head, and spider murphy seemed to fit the whole "tech above all" idea that could have been manipulated into the maelstrom current way of doing things.

I have i crazy quess that wakako is same women who was working with arasaka in 2023 who used soulkiller on johnny. She told her husband died in tower and wakako had more than 5 husbands i think and they sound alike

90% of the things you see in Johnny's memories are incorrect. Alt mentions that when V talks about seeing johnny's memories. "What you saw was a subjective version of what really happened that Johnny has been reliving." That memory with Johnny being interrogated didn't happen, he was already dead when Smasher shot him in half earlier. The real version of what happened in both of Johnny's flashbacks is in Cyberpunk RED, which is where i got all this info from.

@@rokasciurinskas7890 The “Never fade away” story in Cyberpunk 2020 and “The Fall Of The Towers” in Cyberpunk RED are the canon events of what happened. Both of those stories were written by Pondsmith iirc and came out before 2077 did. They’re as canon as you can get.

if you ask Rogue for help to infiltrate Arasaka, you can question her about the 50 year gap as Johnny, eventually she'll say she sold out the gang from the bomb job to Arasaka so she could walk away

I found a mini mission with a reference to Spider Murphy out in the Badlands towards the SE. Forgot where but around the regional airport area.
There is a car on the side of the road with its door open and a body dressed in net runner gear laying just next to it and a shard. The shard recounts a tracking and recovery attempt of a "package" from I assume space. The attempt was discovered, and net runner taken out. Using the info on the shard you track down the "Package". The "Package" was a locker looking box in a shallow crater. Inside for me was 3 items. 2 of which were legendary BD wreaths of very low armor with writing from Spider Murphy on them.
You totally missed that there's a possible reference to her in the Cyberpunk RED book. In the section on NPC's of Night City is this listing.
A Recluse, of course, is a type of spider.
Recluse (Netrunner): Very little is known about the hermitic Netrunner living in the heart of the Combat Zone's Old Japantown district. But everyone in the Combat Zone knows you don't go into the old Kaifū Corner shopping complex unless you're looking for trouble or you need a top-tier Netrunner. For the last several years, Recluse has lived in the abandoned mini-mall, installing expensive, covert defenses and complex NET Architectures that most Edgerunners could only dream of acquiring. She only speaks with clients who can shell out big time cash and never meets anyone in person. Recluse prefers to meet clients in the lobby of her NET Architecture, where she appears in the form of her Icon, a tremendous brown recluse spider with an icy voice. Some say she's an ex-Netwatch agent, hiding out from her former employers; some say she's really an A.I.; and some people even say Recluse is a Net Ghost who lives in the Old NET. But there's one thing everyone in the Combat Zone knows: if you need a NET cracked, no matter how airtight, you go to Recluse.

There's the Maximum Mike broadcasts on the Morro Rock radio station, too. One of them has Mike relating a discussion with one of his old netrunner friends, talking about the blackwall, daemon programs and the like. Shit really hints at it being Spider that he's talking about.
There is so much series/movie potential in the Cyberpunk world that its overflowing.
Spider Murphy very likely became the infamous "Recluse" from RED. They all but state it outright.
Throughout the game I noticed a lot of hints towards balance between V and Johnny. There's also a chakra menu in Misty's store that mentions chakra harmony that resembles the attribute menu. I noticed that you get 71 attribute points. Now to my point... Has anyone ever tried spec'in 14 points into each attribute and saving the last one for the relic spot? I only thought this because when you click the relic it always say insufficient points when you have none and does nothing when you do. Might be another mystery.
"Bartamos was wrong" is 8ugbears shard. You come across crazy amounts or lore, but none of it is interesting until you know about the characters. I would have liked bugbear to be in it more... possibly just because I like the name.
So being obsessed with cyberpunk I've been collecting every table top book and even plan on playing the table top games but I would love to be a part of digging up the lore behind cyberpunk if you ever need a hand

You ran into Spider Murphy in the intro adventure for Cybergeneration. Cybergeneration itself is a weird little alternate timeline of a game, you played neurotech-enhanced, idealistic cyberkids picking up the pieces after the last generation. There is a transition government and martial law with Biotechnica on top.
Spider has been rounded up by BuReloc goons and placed in a work camp. Her fake ID has held up and she's in gen pop, but you got to bust her out before someone notices her real identity.
Cybergeneration was very weird but I thought it was unique. I ran it once for my players, it was a nice self-contained little experience.

This...this would make an awesome DLC to finally find out the truth of the Arasaka attack. Need to bring back Thompson too. Had high hope he would've been revealed as Hands.
I have it as an understanding that Spider Murphy after that big Arasaka mission , she cuts her hair wich used to be super long (she was a Rias Grammery) and moves to the East apparantly she finds a husband and has a child and retires (hell she probley was the one who taught SoMi how to be a netrunner (speculation) V could have met her while he /she was in Atlanta as well when they were younger (speculation) the books are great but they did leave us guessing alot of stuff on the entirety of the Lore of the characters.
I think Spider Murphy just quietly retired, like T-Bug planned to after your big heist. By this time she had to have been insanely rich.
Its cut content, We might see something actually added for the expansion concerning Murphy......There is a chance actually that Bartmoss is still out there in the net, As for Murphy Rogue says she sold everyone out and high tailed it out(which we know she is the one that did that), Also there is actually a Chance Alt and Johnny are actually still alive, the version of soulkiller may not have actually killed them but it looked that way according to the Constructs memories, Silverhands memories may have been altered as a means of interrogation as that is what Arasaka wanted in the first place. We may even get to see Blackhand eventually as there are only rumors he is dead.
I mean for reasons you are going to have differences between the game and tabletop version, Pondsmith did work on the game, so I would say that its official lore, and Cyberpunk probably will have eventually tabletop revisions to account for it. I think we will see more than 1 DLC for the game,. and the reason is that it is probably going to sell well, as people eventually will have newer consoles and PC hardware will push it to the point you can reasonably get all the eye candy for a reasonable cost at good frame rates the 4090 plays the game at 4k maxed out above 60 fps with Ray tracing cranked. So I only think the popularity of the game especially after Edgerunners Anime is really making the studio and investors rethink their strategy here, and they probably are not going to want to just shit these games out to far, so they are going to want to stretch the content out.
While I'd be keen for more DLC, I'm pretty sure they mean it when they say Phantom Liberty will be the only one. The studio is totally done with their in-house REDengine and are switching to Unreal for future projects, including the planned Cyberpunk 2077 sequel that's expected to start preproduction next year.

later on in game after you down the AV you hear about parts of the city losing power on the radio! if it was that strong to damage NC’s power grid no doubt it would have fucked with the freezer and thats why theres still ice and the body hasnt decomposed

Ancient comment, but Johnny's memories are not the actual events that took place. It's either his own twisted version of the events triggered by ego or trauma (or both) or the memories of the engram were tampered with by Arasaka.

It's 2023 now, and where is all those netrunners? (thousands nerds who died at their PC cause 0 psychical activity doesnt count) It looks like 1940-th expectation of 1990 year, where people should fly at flying saucers, wear space suits and shoot from deathray guns, or something. Same with flying machines from Back to the Future. That's why Robocop script was in 2170-th years, or something - it's more realistic.
Personally i bet on 3000 year, or something - cause scientific progress is not so fast as in Sci-Fi...
