Had already converted my original crux3 with the ep2. Love the 2s and fly it most every day. Had some weird disarms at close and medium range on my 5" and my phantom hd so am back on crossfire with them for now. I want to convert everything but I'm gonna have to gradually work back into it. Just did a quick test on my new crux35 HD with elrs and so far so good.
Yes, the migration has begun. 6 of 24 converted so far. Probably won't do all my whoops, but did change the board in a mob6 19000kv to the elrs aio. Definitely felt a difference in flight performance, and of course, range. Thanks for the information Nick. Great video
PH2.0 to XT30...Severe voltage sag when I used rolled ph2 connectors. I then filled the rolled pins with solder. 10 packs later, still sagged. Changed to solid pins, flight time increased by a few seconds. Then the battery connectors started to get warm/hot. I skipped the BT2.0 and GNB27 upgrades and went straight to XT30 connectors. 20 packs later, my flight time has doubled and the voltage sag is limited by the internal resistance of the battery.
PH2.0 connector indeed is a good part of voltage sag problem. When my Mobula7 PH2.0 batteries died, replaced connectors to BT2.0 connectors and purchased batteries with BT2.0 connector. Got like 20..30% less voltage sag in result. With my usual not so punchy flying style I now have 3.3V left in battery after 4 minutes. Where PH2.0 batteries after same time ended with 2.7V. Also it is worth to reflash ESCs firmware for 48/96 kHz PWM and RPM telemetry support. BLHeli_M 16.9 etc.
Late to the game I know. I went with a Jumper T-Pro + elrs module when I first got into FPV early this year. Glad I did thanks for helping to push me towards ELRS, really enjoy it. Saw this one and picked one up. 2nd time plugging it in to check settings some of the magic smoke came out. Can't fault HM for the 5 months shipping, but they sent a replacement FC, in my hands about a week, amazing. I haven't got a lot of air time on this one, but what I have had it's a hoot. Shame the bad time of the year is upon us. After some winter indoors whoop boot camp, I'll be really looking forward to ripping this that first nice spring day. Thanks for the videos, old and new. Really helps out when looking for gear knowing the pros and cons.
Pretty fantastic flying and review, Nick!!! 😃 I totally agree! I hope ELRS becomes the standard as soon as possible! I still don't have the 2.4Ghz module, but I'm seriously considering making it. It would be pretty fun and I could record a video showing the steps! 😃 Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Express LRS = #1 new quad tech of 2021. Didn’t realize it improved stick feel! Great review & extra info on ELRS & Insta Go 2. For 2022 let’s wish for better analog cameras.
You know I'm ready! I just got back flying my custom 2.5" 1s toothpick with the 2g4 (same FC aio) and I was so amazed how far I flew, I consider it long range given the size of it. A 3" would be sweet
After reading the many reviews of elrs vs older protocols is seems that elrs is the equivalent of driving a car that has a computerized throttle (drive by wire) versus an older vehicle with a mechanical gas or a new car with power steering versus an old car with mechanical steering!! The latency represents the slack in mechanical controls. I'm always amazed how our brains become so sensitive that we can actually detect such differences based on milliseconds. Very cool! I see examples of this all the time when one of my customers has a problem with their new computer and has to temporarily use an old machine whike their new systems is fixed. What is actually split seconds feels like minutes to the user. another crazy thought is that elrs is still somewhat in its infancy and has a lot of room for improvement. Sorry to geek out but it is really fascinating.
About the solid pin connectors ruining the 1s batteries.. I think it’s true. I just realized it when you talked about it in this video. My newbeedrone nitro nectar gold 250mah ones barely lasted a month and my new gnb 300mah ones gave about 4 minutes of flight time but after just 2 weeks dropped to barely over a minute. I wondered if my charger is faulty but then batteries with GNB27 connectors are doing just fine. So it’s clear now the solid pins are battery killers.
I don't understand how you put go2 cam on top of that canopy. How is it even able to rest on top of existing canopy. Also another noob question.... How do u power the go2 cam?
18:49 min - if you're using rolled / folded and solid pin, you end up having a worse connection on the rolled / folded pin unit.. At least that's what I guess.. Reason: Solid pin is a bit thicker.. And don't plug in your PH2.0 packs into a balancer port (like these 1-6S Battery alarms with the LED screen
Hi Nick, I hope you’re well, I need to pick your brain again, so we decided upon the lighting 1 above the nano 2.0 based on vtx, im just wondering if the crux3 2s would be a better quad choice ? The ones that are available for me are frisky spi so I’d have to add an elrs receiver, I know the 1s version is the new version but I’m thinking the 2s would just be more punchy ! I have a crux35 so I’m happy with 4s and I have a few 1s micros but there is a void for me I just need to be a bit smaller that the crux35 and the bonus of the crux 3 is that it fonts in the case with the props on ! So I just thought I’d ask you what you thought ? I also had the baseline in the mix but honestly I’m not the greatest fan of spi elrs, im sat with my finger on the buy it button for the lighting 1 but I just thought I would get your thoughts! Or is there another 3” I should be looking at, I was looking at 2s and budget but I’m not Apposed to 3s if it ends up being better, im in the U.K. and there doesn’t seem to be much info on 3” really, many thanks for your thoughts
I like the combination of 2inch props on a 2s battery more than 2s on a 3 inch prop. The prop response just isn't the same for quick moves, like flying close proximity or similar. I would still go with 2inch prop and 2s.
Have you try'd the Gemfan 3018 Bi-Blade (T-Mount) Props ? I've try'd the Gemfan 75 mm Props on my ~40 g 1S 3" (same as the Crux3 1S but with 11 kkV) and it has just no top end with this prop. (different FC with 5 A ESC)
Would you be willing to try a follow up flight with the light weight configuration, but switching out the props for triblade 65mm like the Gemfan 2512 or HQ T65MMX3? With a 65mm low pitch prop I'd be willing to bet this would be an even more responsive flight feel and possibly more efficient as well on those 450 mah batteries. After watching your review I've got one on order, but the shipping time looks like mid Nov. At least by then I should have all the ins and outs of ELRS figured out.
I would have to test, but these props are very light, I suspect we might only see a small change and it could be more responsiveness but less flight time as the 3inch prop is generally more efficient than shorter props. We shall see I will see what time I can carve out to give it a run.
I have this drone ELRS with the Master Zorro that already come with ELRS and it’s impossible to bind! I have a brand new drone just sitting in my house but I can’t use it :(
The primary issue to binding is we have to ensure the version of elrs is the same major version, so both would need to be on elrs v2.x.x or v3.x.x as of right now. The crux 3 in this video is spi elrs and requires betaflight update to update the elrs version. In that case I think its easier to upgrade or downgrade the radio elrs version.
Excellent..... I'm already flying Elrs.... sold all by tbs gear. I use in on all my kwads from 1s to my 7 inch build Connected and 500hz ..... I agree completely Is the cli command for every elrs build?
Great review. Although I still do not have an ELRS module for my Jumper T12, I do feel that one is in my near future before I purchase any new quads 😀.
I use happy model ELRS Module on Jumper T12 Pro. Works flawlessly. By chance do you know where to find replacement hall gimbals for jumper t12? Mine no longer center and close to purchasing new radio, Thanks!
@@LosFPV Soon after posting that I purchased the HappyModel ELRS module for the jumper T12 Pro and have not looked back. You can probably replace the springs on the Jumper Gimbals. I would look into that..
Hello from Canada and great content as usual. What's your favourite drone that can carry a Insta360 go2/Caddx Peanut right now? Like you I like the smaller micros too.
This is my favorite quad overall and it can carry the go2 or peanut. I have the section of the video linked where it is carrying the go2. This is a custom build, but its pretty simple to get and assemble. We buy the ux85 and use those parts on the rocket race 2s edition. Everything is linked in the video description of this video. th-cam.com/video/ah8SahLPS2Y/w-d-xo.html
I've 3 of the original Crux3 (1 and 2s), and I just love them! Who would have thought 5 years ago we could fly a 1s quad like this? Would you mind sharing your pids please?
I made the switch to ExpressLRS recently and I’m glad I did! Originally used R9. ExpressLRS instantly felt like my quad was using a cleaner tune. Then I changed to rc interpolation to ON instead of AVG_2 and it felt even better. I’m using EP2 receivers at 500Hz and at 500mW. My 1200mW DJI video fails before my control link. However, one of my HappyModel receivers bricked during the WiFi flash and I bought an early production HappyModel Slim Pro TX module which has the telemetry bug so both those issues are bummers but this ELRS gear is inexpensive enough that it’s not a big deal. I’ve simply turned TLM off using the ELRS LUA script to stop the annoying telemetry alarms.
It is disappointing the early runs of some of the elrs products have issue. I did see with the new version of ELRS has solved a hardware issues with a particular receiver and a power up issue. Which is amazing. I wonder if they will be able to fix the telemetry issue via software.
hi Nick! thanks for sharing, great content as always! regarding the rapidfire, which mode are you using? the range seems great with the on board VTX! how do you compare the punch and power against the 2s version? thanks! Giulio
I am pretty sure these are the props www.banggood.com/4-Pairs-Gemfan-75MM-Bi-blade-2-blade-1mm-Shaft-PC-Propeller-for-Tiny-Whoop-RC-Drone-FPV-Racing-p-1845039.html?cur_warehouse=CN&ID=6305767&rmmds=search
Hey Nick, I’ve recently become obsessed with The sport and am ready to buy/build my first drone! I really like the rocket race you’ve built and am wondering if I could buy the crux 3 and transfer the components over to the rocket or would I be better off starting with the uz85 base? Thanks!
the crux3 has lower kv motors so not as good of a match as the uz85. If we want the rocket race its likely best to stick with moving the uz85 parts over to the frame.
My favorite outdoor quad is the rocket race 2s. Its far from 250grams. something closer to 250grams would be the avantquads 3inchers. My whoops are all pretty much custom or slightly custom, most of them are variations on the mobula 6 race.
crux3 or Nanohawk x? just getting back into the hobby. going to buy something fairly quiet for my backyard. because I sold my tyrannus and everything else I'm going to buy an inexpensive jumper radio with elrs.
Welcome back, always nice to have an RC enthusiast back in the fold :) That is a tough choice. I would likely recommend the nanohawk x. The pid tune is a bit better and if we need replacement parts they should be easier to get.
They also have the X1 AIO which is a 2-4S 12A board. It's what is used on the Crux35 that he has a review on. Works great on the digital version in my experience too 👍
I've it for about a week. It flies really good for 1S. I created a 900mah 1S by connecting two 450mah batteries together. 5-7 min flight times. With a good 18650 I get 15 min no problem. ** Can't find a way to get battery voltage telemetry to the transmitter. Have you noticed that too? Any workaround?
regarding your point with crossfire and elrs, I found my personal preference is a tango 2 with the betafpv 2.4 elrs module on the rear, I feel its a good balance and allows me to enjoy both camps
@@NickBurnsFPV I recommend to all my friends who want to get into fpv the jumper t-lite with the elrs module. I think over the next few years we'll be seeing a shift towards "game pad" style radios as they are more convenient to transport and more familiar to the younger generation. I do have a build you might like it's a 2s whoop that I feel flies perfectly and has the best balance of power, flight time and range that I've found personally if you would like the parts list just let me know :). Love your channel and been a fan for a while as I am also a 1-2s enthusiast
I’ve received a commercial email stating they were releasing their 85mm whoop (2S) with -the SPI ELRS. I am seriously considering to get rid of all the 1S. Not only batteries sag fast, but they do not survive as long as 2S…
I have a crux 35 ELRS and i have on disarm a Loop saying "Telemetry lost/ telemetry recover". On arm loop does not exit anymore but sometimes i have failsafe very very close to me (less than 50m !!) I don't know what to do. Crux recommend ELRS 2.0 i'm on 2.0. They recommend 250ghz, i'm on 250ghz. I can't fly safety. Someone told me that there's issue with BF and spi elrs with BMI270 (because of Dshot 300 and a low pid loop.) I really don't know what to do. Any solution someone ?
When my original Crux3 FC kicked the dust I replaced it with this AIO and ran it as 1S and 1202.5 11500kv motors instead of the stock 6400kv and it was basically perfect for backyard ripping. The FrSky board was honestly terrible with how much it (seemingly) randomly failsafed. Now with the range of the ceramic antenna + 500 Hz it's great. Not as punchy on 1S but hey, if I want a punchy version I can use their X1 AIO that they use on the Crux35 up to 4S (though I also own a digital Crux35 so meh) and a VTX for it.
can i ask.? flying elrs crux with 360 v2 in 1s, especially when you punchout full throttle, does 5a AIO really handle that kind of punchout even you put the 360v2.? coz i last week, i flew my crux3 crsf (running in 2s)with my 360go v1 and needs doing a full throttle (needed coz weight added of the 360go), one of the motor gave up. after checking it in, i realize that motor is still working properly so my guess is the esc built in on that aio already died(not sure, this is only hypothetically speaking, sry im still new at this), i still want to flew micros and toothpick, but all of the FC aio available for that is only 5amps for 1s/2s
Yes, it does handle the amp draw of the motor and prop with the extra weight. That doesn't mean it will forever. One item I can suggest to help the esc last longer is to disarm very very quickly when we crash. This means our props should not be trying to spin when the quad is on the ground or stuck in a tree. If the prop cannot spin a voltage spike will occur in that tiny moment and that can burn one or more esc.
The first manufacturer that makes a 3s aio elrs 400mw vtx is going to sell a ton of them!!! It just has to happen then analog will definitely stay around for a while longer. I still love my 12a aio analog setups but adding a standalone aio, vtx, elrs is still adding to much weight. Geprc, namelessrc, hglrc, or others please get to work and make it happen!!
Hi Nick, first of all thank you for your videos and amazing job. I'd like to ask your opinion regarding a problem I am experiencing with my Crux 1s ELRS: after the first flight (that went good) I'm no longer able to carry the insta360 go2 on top of it due to lack of power (I manage to take off and after a few seconds it just fall). I currently fly with a GNB 650 mAh and I have no idea what is happening
@@chiaracozzolino2907 Is that a reading from a battery checker or via the quad and the betaflight osd? Take the props off and plug in usb and use the betaflight configuration app to test motors. Move the slider up some and see if all motors are reading the same level. Move it up some more and visually note the motor levels again. Do this up to about 80%. Do these readings fairly quickly as we don't want to have the quad plugged in long without flying, the board will heat up without air flow and could overheat causing damage. But if the motor levels all move evenly and normally up to 80% that could indicate the battery health isn't as good as it once was. Discharging to low or keeping it charged for long can cause it to deteriorate over time.
@@NickBurnsFPV Thank you for the help and the availability. The GNB HV 650 MAh (60c/120c) I am using are practically brand new. I read the right voltage from the Beaflight OSD and also from the battery checker. Checking the motor as you suggested, I notice that one of the motors behaves a little bit differently: the R value is significantly different (I think) from the other motors. With the master at a certain level (slightly more than 50%) for the first motor R = 11000 while the other values are around 16000. I tried to find out if this is something that has to do with the motor itself or its connections, but if I switch it with another motor, I have the same problem in the same "exit" from the board.
I have Crossfire but ELRS seems better for micros. I'm in doubt. This one or FlyWoo FireFly 1S Nano Baby. The Crux seems to have better performance but the Firefly is probably safer to fly in the park. Any opinions? Thanks.
Hard to describe, the first time I tired elrs, hard to put into words but the sticks felt so locked in like there was a bit extra friction of response on the sticks like a grinding response that just felt so right
Can you use it without a doodle? I have my controller and practice on the SIM. I want to start to motivate myself. Can I use my laptop screen to fly this?
if you have a receiver to plug into the laptop yes. These are pretty old these days, but they are around. Infinity loops uses one on his streams, don't recall the name.
Hi Nick, I’m Floating between either this or the 2s version atm, i have a happymodel elrs module and would love to run the 2s version on elrs. Is it possible to solder in an external receiver such as an ep2 onto the 2s AIO? Thanks for any advice
I'm trying to update my 5in1 with the ELRS Configurator and I can never get it to work. What RX do you select EP 2400 RX or PP 2400 RX? Which serial port do you turn on in Betaflight? Thank you!
you don't update an onboard ELRS RX with the configurator. We have to update betaflight and everything. This is the github thread on the topic of AIO ELRS github.com/betaflight/betaflight/pull/10788
How would you compare it to the Crux35 ELRS for å beginner who wants to grow with it? Will be used a bit around the yard etc, but mostly in more open areas.
Hey Nick, sorry for the noob question, I'm new to this. I've ordered yesterday a BetaFPV Literadio 2 with builtin 2.4ghz ELRS, and I'm thinking of getting Eachine EV800D, do you think they will be a good starting point with the Crux? Any suggestions?
My only concern is with the lite radio 2. Betafpv has had some difficulty with their quality control on that form factor radio. Namely the wires on the gimbals have come off for some people. The "fix" isn't terrible to resolder, but most who purchase that radio aren't ready for soldering yet. I have not read recent reports of that issue so they could have resolved their issue. the ev800d have been a standard for starting for a good long while, they should work well for you.
Need to replace my betafpv lite radio 2 with a radio with ELRS but want better gimbles and a screen. Seems a shame to not have ELRS as internal module.
ELRS is fairly new, we may see more radios with internal modules, at this time on the new betafpv lite radio has an internal ELRS module. I have not used it or suggest it as there is no screen to make lua script manipulation reliable and easy.
@@ChrisCroft77 Yeah i heared about that one too, but they wanted to announce them in the first weeks of oktober and still they are not mentioning them :/
I had Trouble with caddx Turbo in the eachine Trash Can. I trust caddx not more.By little crash i was only by repearing the cam as flying. Should I Change my mind and give caddx a Chance?
I have used many different cameras over the years, runcam, caddx, foxeer etc. The only issue I have found was early on caddx cameras would sometimes have some dust or something on the sensor. Otherwise the cameras have worked normally for me.
Elrs only? My brother bought one with a integrated frsky spi reciver. Mabyee they revised it idk he got it on get fpv. Also his is rated for 2s and i have flown it on 2s and on 2s it’s so freakin fast
I believe there are two version. In this video is the 1s only version the other version is 1s-2s, 1s is very tame and 2s is much more fun. 1s version which is elrs only per the happymodel website www.happymodel.cn/index.php/2021/10/11/happymodel-crux3-1s-elrs-3-inch-toothpick-fpv-racing-drone-bnf/

@@NickBurnsFPV Thanks for replying, dude! Ooh, it has onboard VTX! Not sure I want that though, since I planned to steal the Mob7 cam. What's the best super nano camera out there these days?
@@ojkolsrud1 Best is really hard for me to determine for others. The runcam nano 3 is the lightest camera with one of the widest if not the widest fov. But is tends to have a purple or blue tint in some instances. The caddx ant is likely the next lightest with less fov but likely better image quality. Then we can jump to typical whoop cameras like the bee eye or pinch cameras, both have a super wide fov, but lower image quality than either of the other two. They also don't handle different outside lighting as well as the others.
Currently there is only one radio with elrs built in, but it doesn't support other protocol to my knowledge, that one is the betafpv elre lite radio. Otherwise I would look at the jumper t-lite, this is what I use its less then $100 and we can add an expresslrs module to the back.

Really helps out when looking for gear knowing the pros and cons.
Perfect timing. Just got my Crux3 delivered 2 days ago and i'm still setting everything up for it. Thanks for the info Nick!
Can I just say, Nick, you are looking healthier by the day. Please share your success formula, I for one can definitely use it!
You don't have to do deadlifts, the most powerful move on the diet is called "put the fork down" (:
After multiple failsafes on XM+ and a lost quad, I am all in on ELRS with Happymodel. Found new use with the R9M gear. Thank you Express LRS team!
Same here lost my nazgul. Fully depressed bought a nazgul v2 upgraded to elrs😂. (Ya im dump to fly at dangerous places without gps)
Same here, I'm sick of xm+ random failsafes. I'm moving to elrs
Pretty fantastic flying and review, Nick!!! 😃
I totally agree! I hope ELRS becomes the standard as soon as possible!
I still don't have the 2.4Ghz module, but I'm seriously considering making it. It would be pretty fun and I could record a video showing the steps! 😃
Anyway, stay safe there with your family!
Lol. Running it on 500hz packet rate?
Love my ELRS stuff! A couple months ago I built a 1s quad using this board and it’s awesome!
Thanks Nick, been thinking of a little 1S ELRS racer. This is perfect.
Thank you. You are my favorite micro reviewer.
Thank you. Appreciate the compliment.
Elrs and ghost lower latency makes you feel more present, I love it.
Is it noticable for you? I've not tried yet.
Phillips screws are usually nylon on this small drones.
Update: Confirmed, solid pins are the culprits for dying 1s batteries. Just replaced with folded pins on two whoops and flight time is just right.
Sorry, how long is the flight time with Peanut?
I don’t not know. I don’t have one
looking at you hold both those small fast quads really makes me want one LoL!!! Thanks so much for the great flying and Great Review brother!!
Please recommend one between 1s and 2s versions.
I don't understand how you put go2 cam on top of that canopy. How is it even able to rest on top of existing canopy. Also another noob question.... How do u power the go2 cam?
I believe it now comes with a TPU canopy that is also a go2 mount. And you plug the GO2 into the flight controller plug which is 5v and ground.
6:10 What is the french forest video you are referencing?
I believe this is the video I recall th-cam.com/video/nLUmW6OfEy0/w-d-xo.html
Awesome video!! You should do a blind test of the same quad running 250Hz vs 500Hz and see if you can correctly identify the packet rate each time.
18:49 min - if you're using rolled / folded and solid pin, you end up having a worse connection on the rolled / folded pin unit..
At least that's what I guess..
Reason:
Solid pin is a bit thicker..
And don't plug in your PH2.0 packs into a balancer port (like these 1-6S Battery alarms with the LED screen
Hey nick love the review!! How would sAy this stacks up against a babytooth?? Performance wise?
The performance difference is negligible and can be flattened with the use of the same battery connector.
@@NickBurnsFPV thanks for the response!!! Its exciting to see some great new micros coming out especially with elrs!! I am definitely on the elrs 🚂
Yeah, I've switched all of my active fleet to ELRS. On the 5" it feels like the quad has lost 10-15% weight, the response is that much better.
@@NickBurnsFPV awesome Thankyou ! I was just second guessing myself lol
21:05 min - 2 screws on my 2S Crux3.. 😅 Heavy crashes = no problem so far..
This 75mm prop is pitched very low. More efficent but no top end speed. Very light and reactive
I'm new to this hobby, just recently got in to it. It's so interesting to hear about how you gotta have a module for ELRS and stuff
We don't have to as many modern day controllers/remotes have elrs built in.
@@NickBurnsFPV even now? It seemed to me that nowadays pretty much everything is with ELRS. That’s weird.
@@Demka03 That's what I am saying, today or current radios often come with ELRS as the main or only transmitter in radios.
@@NickBurnsFPV Ah yes, sorry. I'm a foreigner. Times have changed, and seems like you were right about ELSR :)
@@Demka03 No worries. i can be less than clear myself.
I think your right with elrs, it feels much better than frsky, really awesome response
@@NickBurnsFPV If you don't find time I totally understand. Just thought I'd throw the idea out there. Keep up the great work!
Nice one man! Awesome video as always!
Excellent..... I'm already flying Elrs.... sold all by tbs gear.
I use in on all my kwads from 1s to my 7 inch build
Connected and 500hz ..... I agree completely
Is the cli command for every elrs build?
At this time for the elrs aio boards yes. There could somehow be a aio that doesn't support 500hz packet rate, I am not aware of one at this time.
@@NickBurnsFPV Ah.. that makes sense now. Thank you.
Great review. Although I still do not have an ELRS module for my Jumper T12, I do feel that one is in my near future before I purchase any new quads 😀.

What is everones thought on the 1-2s version and the 1s only version (newer)?
I've 3 of the original Crux3 (1 and 2s), and I just love them! Who would have thought 5 years ago we could fly a 1s quad like this? Would you mind sharing your pids please?
The PIDS come stock on the quad. I did not custom tune it.
I wonder if they will be able to fix the telemetry issue via software.
hi Nick! thanks for sharing, great content as always! regarding the rapidfire, which mode are you using? the range seems great with the on board VTX! how do you compare the punch and power against the 2s version? thanks! Giulio
I use mode 1, unless I have issues with the camera.
Hey Nick, where do you get these props? Gemfan doesnt even have them on their homepage. Not with 1.5mm shaft. Havent found them amy any website.

What is your favorite indoor whoop? What is your favorite sub 250 outdoor drone?
My favorite outdoor quad is the rocket race 2s. Its far from 250grams. something closer to 250grams would be the avantquads 3inchers. My whoops are all pretty much custom or slightly custom, most of them are variations on the mobula 6 race.
crux3 or Nanohawk x? just getting back into the hobby. going to buy something fairly quiet for my backyard. because I sold my tyrannus and everything else I'm going to buy an inexpensive jumper radio with elrs.
Welcome back, always nice to have an RC enthusiast back in the fold :)
That is a tough choice. I would likely recommend the nanohawk x. The pid tune is a bit better and if we need replacement parts they should be easier to get.
Do you know if there will be a 2s version of the board with a bit more than 5a escs?
They also have the X1 AIO which is a 2-4S 12A board. It's what is used on the Crux35 that he has a review on. Works great on the digital version in my experience too 👍
The only 2s ELRS AIO/whoop style board is from betafpv so far. It was on the channel a few days ago.
@@NickBurnsFPV Oke thanks.
I haven't worked on that specifically. I use osd voltage.
regarding your point with crossfire and elrs, I found my personal preference is a tango 2 with the betafpv 2.4 elrs module on the rear, I feel its a good balance and allows me to enjoy both camps

Aside of ELRS and whip antenna on vtx, what is better performer in terms of power and agility? Original crux on 2s or new one on 1s?
original crux3 on 2s will out perform.
As soon as Happymodel makes a 2s AIO with ELRS, I'm going to pounce on it so hard!!!
I am looking forward to the 2s versions as well.
As I rexall betafpv has one that supports 2s without a vtx, but you have to make sure you get the v2 of the board
They do, the X1. Doesn't have a VTX on board, though. But no big deal imo.
Hi! Thanks for the video! So can I use my Elrs Master Zorro transmitter with this drone?
yes, any drone that has an elrs receiver can be used with an elrs radio
When my original Crux3 FC kicked the dust I replaced it with this AIO and ran it as 1S and 1202.5 11500kv motors instead of the stock 6400kv and it was basically perfect for backyard ripping. The FrSky board was honestly terrible with how much it (seemingly) randomly failsafed. Now with the range of the ceramic antenna + 500 Hz it's great. Not as punchy on 1S but hey, if I want a punchy version I can use their X1 AIO that they use on the Crux35 up to 4S (though I also own a digital Crux35 so meh) and a VTX for it.
that FC has both Uarts pinned out. you could add crossfire or tracer if you wanted.
Why would you want to some that same or worse performance than eLRS?
can i ask.? flying elrs crux with 360 v2 in 1s, especially when you punchout full throttle, does 5a AIO really handle that kind of punchout even you put the 360v2.? coz i last week, i flew my crux3 crsf (running in 2s)with my 360go v1 and needs doing a full throttle (needed coz weight added of the 360go), one of the motor gave up. after checking it in, i realize that motor is still working properly so my guess is the esc built in on that aio already died(not sure, this is only hypothetically speaking, sry im still new at this), i still want to flew micros and toothpick, but all of the FC aio available for that is only 5amps for 1s/2s
I expect 2s will be the first frontier they tackle.
Hi Nick,
first of all thank you for your videos and amazing job.
What is the voltage reading of the battery before you start to fly?
@@NickBurnsFPV it seems normal, I read 4.3 V
@@chiaracozzolino2907 If we move the motor and the issue doesn't move with the motor that indicates its an esc issue.
I have Crossfire but ELRS seems better for micros. I'm in doubt. This one or FlyWoo FireFly 1S Nano Baby. The Crux seems to have better performance but the Firefly is probably safer to fly in the park. Any opinions? Thanks.
flywoo is smaller and not as fast, and you are likely right that its safer. The nano baby will be pretty tame flight comparatively.

crux3 1s unless the space is small, like half the size of my yard.
Hard to describe, the first time I tired elrs, hard to put into words but the sticks felt so locked in like there was a bit extra friction of response on the sticks like a grinding response that just felt so right
It is, conveying that feeling is really difficult.
Because of that feel and the good range, I got rid of all my XM/ XM+ receivers…
Can the board handle 2s if you lower the max throttle? I think 1s is not enough on 3 inch. Im chosing between this and frsky version because of 2s
No. the flight controller is 1s, it would smoke on 2s battery plug in.

Nice ripping, and great video.

@@NickBurnsFPV Thank you very much for the answer, man. I'll use your reply to figure out what to do=)
@@ojkolsrud1 Where we can spare more weight I think the caddx baby ratel 2 is a great camera, its weighs about 3grams and costs about $25.
@ Nick Burns My first test flight on elrs, Turned into a full flight. The response was awesome, I feel The Force Too! lol
"The Force" maybe we should just call it that. ELRS 500hz packet rate = THE FORCE :)
@@NickBurnsFPV agreed
Hi nick.. I'm wondering if this frame and motor can use with my mobula 7 hd aio.. Do you think mobula 7 hd 1s can convert to this crux3?
The frame will work with any 25x25 AIO.
Is this the same board as as the mobula 7 1s elrs? I'm confused as to why this has 200mw vtx and the mobula has 400mw also mobula have bigger esc
Not the same board, it looks the same but components on the board changed.
Is it possible to solder a XT30 onto it and fly it with a 2s without frying the esc?
I don't believe that would be wise. I would expect it to burn on 2s battery plug in. Its a 1s board.
Whats a good quality entry level transmitter could I get that would be capable of running multi protocols including elrs
Currently there is only one radio with elrs built in, but it doesn't support other protocol to my knowledge, that one is the betafpv elre lite radio. Otherwise I would look at the jumper t-lite, this is what I use its less then $100 and we can add an expresslrs module to the back.
@@NickBurnsFPV awesome thank you. The jumper t lite with the elrs module is the setup I am going to go with. Thank you so much for your advice.
What's your GO2 settings ? Fixed exposure ? Also is Colour Plus on ?
I did use color plus from the app. I record in pro mode 1440p. The settings are default.
@@NickBurnsFPV The colours seemed pretty saturated..
Do you think we could squeeze more dynamic range out by lowering the contrast, or is this it?
@@NickBurnsFPV also having this result without fixed exposure is impossible because of blur we'll get and continuous dark and light image are you sure it's default also what bit rate you used while exporting
@@lievenvv not using color plus will dial back the colors, the mobile app has a host of settings, I haven't really investigated them.
@@justhackitfpv I believe the export bit rate was 112, but also the premiere export of the entire video is max 22, and then youtube further encodes the file to the vp9 codec. If you right click the video and select "stats for nerd" it will show the youtube specific video data.
Will this run on 2s? Tempted by the onboard elrs, and would like to run 2s battery as an option.
No.aio doesn’t support above 1s
boys...any link to spare good props for crux3?
Very nice!! I still don't out run a external D8 emax reciever or xm+ with micros as I like to fly close and fly fast. So easy to lose in grass if you fly far away haha.
Tried twice so far to set it up ERLS with my QX7 but have never got it to work, I'm nearly going to give up on it due to stress, fov supposed to be fun haha. I sort of wish ERLS never came about as I don't want it to replace D8 and xm+ etc haha. If they go to ERLS only I won't buy anymore happymodel BNFs, I just can't set it up haha. As a nurse I'm just to clueless on it hahaha.
I do suspect most manufacturers to start switching to elrs. Its cheaper, and solves a support issue with frsky firmware. I can sure help gt your qx7 going. Does the module not power on, or is it a binding issue?
@@NickBurnsFPV was updating open TX, didn't get past that unfortunately
@@slowentropy4531 I think with the qx7 we pinch in both lower trims as we turn it on to put it into bootloader mode. This would be our first step...if I am correct. Check this out, an old PBF video. th-cam.com/video/dJ4dSKjrLxk/w-d-xo.html
@@NickBurnsFPV Thanks Nick, had a really rough shift last night and I'll get onto it asap. Just feeling ragged atm haha.
All the best you to good of a person mate, thanks so much.
Which is the better module to get I hear some of them have had a few problems??? Would like to get one but I’m on the fence about which one to get
What radio do you have?
Just saying, I bought a happymodel tx module for my jumper t16, only because my local drone shop, quad junkie, had the stock and namnimo module hadnt reached our shops yet. Even tho the picture on the website was of the white case old version with problems, I went for it anyway, the newer black one turned up thank fully . I've had absolutely no problems with my happymodel module, none. I always run it at 100mw 500hz
The jumper t16
How would you compare Crux3 with Smart16 ? Thanks!
hmmm. The crux3 will be less aggressive but also have longer flights. I broke an arm on the smart16.
@@NickBurnsFPV thank you !!!👍
Did you Crux3 1s bind automatically or did you have to set it up.
no they don't bind automatically unless we flash the rx with a passphrase. We click the bind button in betaflight, then bind on the radio. Set at 250mw
If you upgrade your ph2.0 the 1s batteries will last as long as multi cell
I definitely own an Frsky version of the Crux3
As a ultra light backpacker this is the ticket 😎
Ok I need elrs for my whole fleet wings and planes to what do I need I currently have taranis x9d pluss
I would get the namimno 2.4ghz module, the receiver of choice that is ELRS 2.4ghz and the expresslrs configurator on your computer.
@@NickBurnsFPV so I can use my taranis that I've been using for 5 years and afraid to update the firmware I even got rid of the crossfire module because of this and to top it off I just got 4 frsky xr8 receivers and they won't work on my taranis because I don't know how to update the dam firmware I am screwed lol
@@rockman49er I feel your pain mate, hope you get it sorted and stress free flying :)
@@slowentropy4531 thanks 😊
@@rockman49er We likely need to downgrade those receivers. I am not sure if there is a video on those xr8 receivers, but I would look around. This is the issue we have been struggling with frsky.
This is a great looking option based on the specs and price. It would be nice to see more of these micro motors for 3" move to 2mm shafts, but on 1s that's probably less important. I'm still impressed by just how good the footage looks from those Go 2 cameras.
I've gotten my ELRS module and first batch of receivers in. Time to get up to speed on setup, and start converting a few of my favorite builds.
Any tips on how you fix your receivers on your whoops?
D8 mode or replace Rx with external Rx. With elrs really not a range issue. What “fix” are you looking for?
Oh man late night.. I should have worded that better, I mean attach them, like with foam tape or whatever. I had a vtx change I had to secure down because there was enough give on the foam tape I used that it messed with the gyro on rolls.
@@rocketquad5888 I do use foam tape often to secure them down. I try to keep the wires slightly off the board (no contact). I use hxres and duct foam tape. The hxres tape i let sit overnight, it seems to "cure" where the duct is just super sticky.
Great thank you!
