"Your payments will end 2 weeks after you make your Universal Credit claim " oh ok so why rush then if you are stopping payment 2 weeks after applying.

I'm grateful for the valuable lessons shared in this video. How will the Universal Credit migration impact individuals currently receiving benefits? Quick query I have a relative on carers allowance and income support and just recieved migration letter for income support , to move to universal credit and make claim by mid September 2024 , my question is should I hold off making the claim to nearer September as I read that as soon as I make the claim my payments would stop after 2 weeks so as my income support runs till September. I could potentially have no payments between now and probably October if I claim early on to move over , I Hope query make sense to you and hope you can advise me

It will take 5 weeks before the universal credit money comes in.

@@DeeDee-2 hi thanks for reply , but reading into this I believe in normal circumstances this is the case , however if I read things correctly the date they gave me to claim by is mid September and therefore I think I would still recieve income support payments up to expired date and so if i claim now for universal credit I would be claiming early and therefore income support payments would stop and my new claim would only be looked into after after expiring date of mid September and so no payments for 3 months

No this is only partly correct what you said.
The date they gave you to claim, you can claim anytime now or right up until the date they gave you just don’t go over the date they gave you, because then it would take a much longer time to process. it. Even if you claim now, yes they will stop your income support, but they will start the process for your universal credit straight away. and it will take around 5 weeks. They give you 3 months, so you can think about when you want to apply, now or later, it’s up to you, just don’t go over the date.

Just contact your local Citizens Advice Bureau it is free and these jokers possibly want to charge people. However, it was 2028 but they have brought it forward by three years, so it can be anytime from 2024 to 2025 however with the general election on July 04th if another Government get in, then that might change.
