BIRD PHOTOGRAPHY-HOW TO- JAYS IN THE SNOW

  • With a few unexpected snow showers I decided to grab my camera gear and head down to the field hide. I've been meaning to do a couple of Jay films and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to do so. I wanted to get some different angles and decided to set up the Hokki V3 to try and capture some images of one Britains most stunning birds.

      Good point, well made Simon, although having been here just 12 months this week it looks like the Barn Owl is going to be seasonal (late Summer and Autumn) as the farmer grazed sheep for a couple of months on the field where they hunt this Winter and although the sheep have now gone the grass is short and the Owls haven’t returned to it yet. Your quite welcome to come and have a look next time they’re showing well and all these restrictions are over. Stay Safe.

    What a great spot and set up you have created there Simon. Looking forward to part 2. Got the Jack Pyke Rannoch btw. Quality product which I'm very pleased with. Only thing I don't like is the zip. I find it far too fiddly so use the poppers instead. Puzzled by you using the 70-200. Would have thought the 150-600 would have given you all the flexibility you would need although the F4 max aperature could be handy in low winter light I suppose.

    • @simoneardley
      @simoneardley  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Always learning eh Gordon. Jays can bury up to 5000 acorns in a season and they've been attributed to assisting in the spread of the Oak tree far up into the Northern Hemisphere due to their gathering activities!! They bury them is a cache and then go back to them in leaner times. Some slip through the net and emerge into saplings.

    • @simoneardley
      @simoneardley  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why have you chosen a horizontal hide? I imagine it must be difficult when vlogging and also uncomfortable for long watches. With a more vertical model you can be sitting on a distance from the ground and even keep your nice warm boots on. I think the size against the background if you think of the projection from 30 feet up would be about the same, i.e. not more eye catching.

    • @simoneardley
      @simoneardley  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Eigil, I havent used this hide much and I wanted to try it and get a nice low down angle. Granted its uncomfortable but its a great profile and allows you to get really close to your subjects.

    • @Eigil_Skovgaard
      @Eigil_Skovgaard 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@simoneardley Hey Simon, I wrote this comment - I think - before I commented on the Modal V2, which I am still somewhat hooked on. Your garden presentation was very good.
      I will add to my earlier comment on the low horizontal version, that I did observe a heavily blurred foreground in your otherwise impressive pictures - as from grass and leaves you can't exclude lying that low and with the subject close to the grown too.
      Btw, since last time we spoke I have repeated my test-question to Tragopan - still without any kind of reaction. A harmful policy for business in my opinion. Not yours of course but Tragopan's.
