Oh, that's awesome, foxxie 36! They are such a beautiful breed! Do you watch our friends, Jess, and Jamie on the "Gone To The Snow Dogs" channel? I think there are a couple of senior dog tips in this video that will be perfect for you! Thanks for watching! ~Ken
Kudos for the Video! Forgive me for the intrusion, I would love your opinion. Have you tried - Nonadison Ageing Abscissa (should be on google have a look)? It is an awesome one off guide for caring for your ageing dog minus the hard work. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my m8 at very last got cool results with it.
my doberman just turned 8 so far she hasn't showed signs of getting older. do you have any senior food you suggest right now shes getting purina pro plan performance blend
It's surprising to me that you've managed to perfectly describe every single issue that my own senior dog now has. She's a 16 year old black lab and has lived a long and happy life, even winning a battle against cancer which is something not many dogs can do. She's such an old girl and can be a bit of a hassle sometimes to care for her, but I still love her no matter what.
Same here, my 12 year old beagle. We would walk him 20 hrs a week, gave him Iams dry dog food, take some supplements recommended by the vet. He had one surgery, bounced right back. I truly believe your dog will fair well for many more years!
My poodle mix is 18. She still eats well and drinks well. She definitely stares into space often has loss some sight and hearing. It’s been so tough to trim her nails now that she’s older. I’ve done this her whole life but she just seems extra nervous now. In assuming because of some loss of those two senses I mentioned. She’s still up and going about around our apartment though even though she’s loosing some coordination when standing still. I’m blessed to have had her so healthy all these years.
One of my dogs just had a vet appointment after her 8th birthday. I was so glad that the vet said she had the blood work of a young dog. She definitely doesn’t acknowledge that she’s getting older.
Our boy is 12 and has an undiagnosed auto immune disease, rheumatoid arthritis, liver issues and is blind. He has a lot of needs but we love him ❤❤❤❤❤ we have ramps, a bowl stand and lots of orthopaedic beds
I totally get the “sock bit” 😹 It’s amazing how simple things like that make life much more difficult to manage daily life. Imagine being a senior dog or cat. They are at our mercy for their comfort. Thank you so much for creating this video!
Excuse me sir... I do not remember making an appointment for my dog to see you. Why is it that LITERALLY EVERY SINGLE TIP you gave is what my now 8 year old Lab/AmStaff dog is experiencing 😢 right down to the bumps under the skin. Thank you sooooo much I will definitely try the ramp for him.❤❤❤
My fella is a 15-yo treeing Walker coonhound. So lumpy now, but knows me to the core. Old dogs beat the pants off puppies! The relationship is so much deeper and more mutual.
My Boss is 15 years old. Now he is blind n deaf 😞. He has difficulty in walking as he met with two road accidents n recovered with God's grace. He always stays inside home but now I wanna keep him in the garage for the night time bcoz it's urinating inside the house in the night. He has started this bad behavior very recently. But still I feel hurt to keep him out bcoz he is fond of my 3 cats. They 4 always play
Thanks for the tips - I have an amazing 17 year old Parson Jack Russell who still runs around and thinks she’s a pup. Anyway - we redid our flooring to hardwood and she started slowing down a bit, Lack of grip without the old carpeting was something I’m ashamed to say I never thought of. Putting some area rugs a couple runners & mats down really helped; although we have two younger JRT’s that thought they were supposed to go to the bathroom on the mats at first (LOL). It’s been well worth a bit of extra laundry though - thanks again.
My poodle is 9 and my Shih Tzu is 8. I don't what I will do when they are gone...I will never have dogs again😭 It hurts to see them getting old, and knowing one day they will die
I have my 14 year old lady who seems to be comming to the end of her life 🥺 there is so much I want to still do and so much I regret but, I’lo make sure she is safe and feels loved for as long my God allows me yo have her.
I adopted senior Westie when he was 12 ,now he is 15 years old and he has very sensitive stomach and he had just GI track, loose stools , and wheezing sound. Before I took him to the vet I saw he chew pebbles and swallowed them. Long story short I took him to the vet near by ,and did X-ray,blood work. The vet said he had congestion, and gas on intestines, and little inflammation. He prescribed the meds. So I cooked boil chicken and chopped small pieces and mix with purée can pumpkin. And nex day I saw he had dry poop on his butt and when I tried to cleaned it was pebble and evening he pooped pebbles. Now the last he pooped pebbles was Friday. And he hasn’t pooped till now. His appointment with regular vet on Tuesday morning. I took him for a walk this morning so he could poop but he didn’t. Hopefully he poop before he is going to vet on Tuesday 🤞
My girl is going to be 8 years old next month. She is a Siberian husky. She is going strong, but I am starting to think about what to do when she gets less agile.
Thank you for the helpful tips and tricks! I love factoring a multivitamin in my dogs diet as well. My favorite is Balanced Breed's multivitamin. I have seen such a significant improvement in his health 😍
Great video; the part with you putting on your socks was hilarious. I have a corgi that's about 7-8 years old. The vet said he probably has an inherited problem with his back legs not responding correctly anymore. He drags one back foot and is wearing his toenails very short. His booties slide off not matter how tight. I'd love to know if you know of any ramps or brands to recommend. He also is overweight. I watch his diet, but then he goes in the backyard to eat cat poo. Any ideas about that? Thank You.
Hi there, Bronte Lex! I'm glad you enjoyed the opening of the video. It's an ongoing struggle ;DI don't want to recommend any ramps specifically, because I don't have enough experience with any one specific brand. I do suggest that you look for 2 specific things when you're looking at ramps. 1.The length of the ramp will be important. You don't want it to be too steep when you set it up to whatever elevated surface you want your Corgi to go up on, so check the height you need and double check that the length of the ramp will work. and 2.The security when it is in place. Some ramps have rubber feet, some have a little strap to keep it in place when loading your dog, so consider that for your specific application. The sure-fire way to make sure he doesn't eat cat poop, is to either get rid of it all or place him in a space where it isn't there. There are lots of sprays and things available that discourage a dog from eating that kind of thing. But no one deterrent is 100% reliable. If you are able to, go outside with him to train his "Leave It". I'll include a link to the video where we talk about using the "leave it" command that will give you a little more control when he's out in that area: th-cam.com/video/tDYzRgf3sOI/w-d-xo.html Thanks for watching, and Happy Training! ~Ken
My dog is 14 yrs he's been shedding alot the past week. I'm worried 😟. He's not as active as he was...moans when I pet him. Wish I could make him feel better.
For arthritis pain give your dog 500 milligrams glucosamine with MSM from CVS drug store every other day or every day if it’s really bad. It help my dog.
You always do such a great job Ken, but I highly disagree about using chemical-scented products in the home such as plug ins and air fresheners as they can make both pets and people very ill and induce allergies. Approved pet safe essential oils would be safer, put on a cotton ball or such. Please make a video about assisting senior dogs in and out of a vehicle.
Hello. Thank you for the advance. Do you recommend any cost effective pet insurances? My senior dog had a cancerous tumor removed and I didn’t have insurance so it was very costly and I can’t afford to pay $100 every month for pet insurance on top of what I’m already paying off from the vet. You seem very knowledgeable so I thought it’d be worth asking. Thank you for your time.
I am the mom of an 8.5-year-old Staffordshire pitbull, all was fine until he clipped his nail length-wise. No vet would touch him unless I "neutered" him (the worse decision ever!) He was so puppy-like for being 8. He hasn't been the same since the procedure, refuses to play he don't run anymore and has gained significant weight, and has trouble getting in and out of my truck. Are these issues just age-relatedd or surgically caused issues? 🤔 I do realize that neutering an animal has behavioral changes however I don't believe it would this extreme!
my dog is 9years old and it was a little bit challenging for us to take care of him I'm not sure how we can shower him because he doesn't like shower and also sometimes when he pee he get super wet because he can't see that he step on his pee so we really need to focus and keep our eyes on him
My dog is also a small senior citizen and I use a small nail grinder on her black nails, but clip then grind the white ones. There needs to be a life hack for black nails!! 16 years of nail clipping stress lol
My dog is 9 and he has more energy than when he was 3 I'm worried about his teeth and what to do about it ..its making me sick.. it was a family dog my mom was the one that wanted him and I helped train him and all that stuff then she passed and then I took him.. he's been in my possession for about three years.. very intelligent very well trained... he's only about 15 pounds he has tartar buildup on his canines and I can see his gums are inflamed and he's already lost his top and front bottom smaller teeth I always thought it was because of playing rough..Because that's all he does is chase balls..He has no signs of feeling sick or anything I'm just worried about his teeth ,Right now I can't afford it maybe in a few months I can
I wish i had taken care of my choochoo he died while i was at work i wish i had taken him to the vet he was 8yrs old 💔💔💔😭😭😭😥 i feel so guilty i feel like such a cruel failure parent please forgive me buddy
It’s not your fault, I hope you know that. 8 years is a long time, just got to appreciate that. If you don’t mind me asking what happened to choochoo? 😢
How could you recommend chemical smells for dogs? Dogs stimulation should be natural smells. You are assuming all senior dogs have problems. I appreciate that we should be vigilant and taking care of them and keep them stimulated and mentally and physically challenged.
my baby is 12 🥲 she has arthritis, it's a bit bad.... so I set up a special space for her in my bedroom with a pillow, a carpet and raised bowls 😊 QUESTION: how can I stimulate her mentally and entretain her? I stoped doing tricks with her many years ago; she always only played fetch, which is out of the question now, what can I do?

My dog is 14 and he’s always running everywhere. We fill him with love ever since we found him . Love goes a long way.
This has made me realize how incredibly lucky i am that my 7-9 year old pup still runs and moves like shes a puppy
Same here but for food mostly

Whoa 18? That's awesome I hope your dog is still ok
Wow that's incredible. What breed is it?
Actually, chemical scented products like plug ins and air fresheners can make both pets and humans very ill and cause allergies
I have a senior dog who I’ve had since 2nd grade. Recently I graduated from high school and his conditions are worsening, it makes me so sad.
Update?
Bless you both
