My wife and I specifically went to “the square” to visit the cats back in 2012. At that time there was talk about prohibiting the cats but I’m happy to see nothing became of it. Cats at ancient sites in Italy is pretty common place but one of our favorite places for hanging out with cats was at a small cafe up in the mountain top village of Delphi Greece. Love the Italian tribute to your kitties! Wonderful video again Chris.

To be fair, Rome is COVERED in ruins. There are ruins to spare, they're everywhere, so it's nice to see some also serve a function other than being a piece of history (which is almost important! but. you know. CATS.)
@@HalfAsleepChris I discussed the issue of coronavirus with them. It turns out that they have done some very useful research on this: cleaning all the litter boxes with bleach and preventing new cats from sharing their litter boxes has cut the death rate from feline infectious peritonitis down dramatically. Dinar AndFriends one of my cats died of FIP. But as I understand it, almost all the cats are infected with the corona virus. This is my favorite place in Rome! I found it by accident the first time, wandering around the streets. Looked over the edge into the sanctuary and started noticing cats. Lots of cats. It was amazing! I visited them properly then and every time I go back to Rome (I go once every two years, and in my defense, it's my favorite city to visit), I make it a point to go. Nice video. Having grown up in Rome off and on during the 1960s and 1970s, back then THE place to see cats + historical ruins was the largest furball home and playground of them all: the Forum. It's estimated there were thousands then. From what I know, cats have been adopting ruins for centuries. Having not been back to Rome since 1981, I don't know if some have moved back into the Forum. after the crack-down that led to the establishment of the mentioned sanctuary. There are some at the Colosseum and most likely in other historical ruins, but not in the numbers as they were when I was a a tween and teen. But... Cats will probably outlive humans and take over all of the ruins some day. :)

In ancient Rome, cats were allowed to wander wherever they wanted, even into temples. So really nothing has changed.
So even this is inherited by Istanbul/constantinople
