- Travel with me to remote areas of Alaska as I retrace my grandfathers WWII fighter pilot footsteps through one of the most spectacular regions on the planet, the Aleutian Islands. Along the way, experience both the bounties and hardships this exquisite area holds.
I'll move away from my comfy Florida beach lifestyle to embark on a passionate mission to follow his footsteps, as well those who served alongside him, through this breathtaking yet unpredictably harsh landscape still littered with remnants of its turbulent past. Let this channel serve to honor and remember those who served along side him in one of the most isolated and preserved wartime locations still in existence.
The isolated Aleutian Island chain is a part of the world that is equally as unforgiving as it is awe inspiring. Despite that, in 1942, the war arrived in Alaska. What ensued was a mostly forgotten yet brutal year long battle to get the islands back from the Japanese, a conflict that is often overlooked in American history. It is called the Aleutian Campaign
Love this, Karen! Excited to follow along and learn more about this history.
This is amazing Karen! Your passion shines. Thank you for bringing this history to us in such a beautiful way!
Thank you Mary! You have been following my mission nearly since its inception 12 years ago! Wow, time flies. I have always appreciated your support and encouragement. I hope you keep watching!
Yeah, thanks--I did see some of this stuff on Unalaska still waiting and rusting, in 1988-
Love this!!!!!
Thank you! You have heard it all over the years, the good, the bad and the miraculous! Been so many of those.. We need to get your Dad on here.. He may not be an Aleutian veteran but it would still be great to record his history. I can tie him into John McClellan's history. His was a Canadian Army veteran who was in the Kiska invasion then went off to fight in the Battle of the Bulge, like you sweet Daddy.
love anything about retracing history but also its great to have a female perspective sharing their retracing. Stay awesome! :D
Thanks for that! I agree! I hope you keep watching!
