This is pretty much the one song in Heathers that's in my vocal range, so here I am crying whilst singing in my basement.

When it's a musical that's literally about suicide, how is it that this song stands out among all the others? I don't know, but it always hits me in the feels. Anyone that complains there aren't any likable people in Heathers...THIS SONG.
I think it was one of the only real suicide attempts, alongside McNamara (lifeboat always hurts me in an indescribable way). She's one of the only characters who actually wanted to die, and that's what makes this powerful. Not to mention how her real attempt is seen as attention seeking after the deaths of popular kids, it's amazing commentary on suicide and what it can do to communities, and how it's viewed depending on the person
@okayish_ The whole musical is a commentary on peer pressure. We begin with Veronica writing that note and allowing Martha to believe it's real to keep in good with the Heathers. Then as the "suicides" happen, we see the most fragile people start to think of that as a solution and try to do the same. Veronica herself uses a staged suicide as an attempt to get JD to leave her alone and then she has to show herself anyway because he decides to go ahead with his plan to kill the whole school. The West End may have added "I Say No" because it's the point where Veronica rejects peer pressure in favour of being a good person.

any tips on entending my vocal range? The lowest note i can hit right now comfortably is a c3 and the highest is a b4.
Take voice lessons! The teachers help build your vocal range.

Well my range went from F2-G4-G5 to F2-D5-C6 just but practicing A LOT, lots of soft scales and mixing, and generally screaming in head voice ahahaha, but only things that don’t hurt can help, don’t strain your belts, and BREATHE, breathing from your diaphragm is sooooo important for reaching high belts! However if you can get to a C5-D5 I wouldn’t try and work up much more as I’m assuming you’re an alto if your highest note is a B4. Hope this helped!!! Good luck :)
Have you heard of singing a scale? Take C Major Scale For instance: Lah, lah, lah, lah, lah, lah, lah, lah, lah. You get higher every note you sing and you can keep going higher with frequent practise.
Another way is to improve your pronunciation so your full voice naturally comes in. Saying, singing or mouthing; May Me My Mow Moo at any speed really helps. You can use other letters as well: Tay Tea Tigh Toe Too and Lay Lee Lie Low Loo. It sounds a little strange, i can't fight that... but as your voice recognises all these different ways to sing your vocal range can improve if you do those excerises before you sing!

If you have a keyboard or piano you can track the notes you can sing. (That also icludes Black Notes.)
I change it I start w a throat voice for "kinder-" and then I just go for the note and sometimes it's a bit shouty but it's gotten better
