These artist deep dives are just so consistently great. They’ve legitimately helped me understand recorded music and why certain records resonate or don’t. This despite being a musician / avid listener for many decades.
When Finneas says if you’re thinking about it, it failed and you’re looking more for when you just absorb it, I think it applies to a lot of things, including video.
As a progressive & psych rock lover, I really enjoyed the entirety of hit me hard and soft. “THE GREATEST” is literally the best song she’s ever made in my opinion.
Modern pop records, yeah maybe, but I once heard Sade's engineer tell the story how she would always sing without headphones, a little speaker at her feat so she could track the song. It's really superior for the singer, as staying on key is so much easier, which boosts confidence, which boosts quality.
@@AudioHaze It's actually entirely doable, with the right mic, and if you record the track through the microphone in the same spot in the room without vocals after you recorded the vocals, you can run that second one with flipped phase which eliminates a lot of the bleed.
I think having the music bleed into some recordings is not THAT bad, it gives the track style, like in old recordings a band couldn't help getting the drum set in the vocals mic
You are becoming the artist/producer evangelist. I keep thinking you'll run out of things to say but I found myself stopping the video to write stuff down. The points made are so encouraging and amazingly attainable. Using Billie as an example of this was great.
Thanks Rob!! I think Billie is a great look at the inner workings of pop production, especially since her and Finneas are so open about the production process, makes a great case study!
This is why I said previously that you have one of the most important channels here on TH-cam. Your analysis is always spot on, and you provide a concise, meaningful breakdown of the music, the musicians and production. You give us not only a worthy education but encouragement beyond measure. Thank you!

I think it is so cool the changes they have made and I'm glad she's in a place where she can express herself fully as well as actually enjoy making music cuz I know at one point in an interview, (possibly the Zane Lowe one) where she was really enjoying making music and Finneas wasn't and how it's usually the other way around for them. Of course, as a listener who absolutely loves this album and all the subtleties built into each song, I hope they continue to make more music like this in the future and not be afraid to keep making authentic music all the way around where they take risks by allowing the lyrics and production to create a world of it's own while also being able to hear every emotion each time. It's so cool listening to The Greatest and Wildflower and fully hearing the pain or uncomfort in her voice and then listening to Lunch or The Diner where it's more sassy and confident. Idk man I think it's so cool and I couldn't be happier that I get to hear this music in my lifetime. You explained all of this so well! I really appreciate you breaking down how both the production and her vocal treatment have changed over the years. It gave me a new way to think about music production and solidified a few things I had already thought of myself so thank you! Keep up this amazing content!

Commenting again, but this time with a request, as I've seen everybody requesting something. LOL. Man, I know you had no intention of doing so, but by deep diving into Billy's music, you also made a superb point in defending today's music. Seeing the recent discussions raised by Rick Beato's recent videos, and one of the cases he presented for why music is'bad' nowadays (I'm paraphrasing, but that was about it) being "everyone can produce music nowadays", you just proved a point that yes, there's bad music being made by opportunists, bad music being made by people who will get better at it and awesome music being made in teenager's rooms, like Billy's first record. Thank you for teaching us so much, even if resources are scarce and everything. Those who want to learn and are doing a mediocre job nowadays (and I include myself in that), will eventually gather enough knowledge to become better at music making, music writing, music producing. Thank you, you are doing a terrific job.
That's a great point!! And I really wasn't even thinking about that but you're so right. And don't refer to your music as mediocre I just checked some of it out on your channel and it sounds sick dude, don't be so reductive to yourself :) If Rick's words at all dissuaded you, don't listen to him. Create art at all costs, and don't let those who judge influence your ability to create.
@@AudioHaze Oh man, thank you for your generosity in making the time to check out my music. I've been doing it all by myself for a while (with the occasional help from a few friends), and I'm trying to learn from the good sources. I can't spend on equipment due to my limited resources, so I'm stuck with GarageBand, a Scaerlett Solo gen 2, a Shure SM58 and a Studio Projects B1 microphone, but I'm doing my best. Making music is a non-negotiable to me. Gotta do it. Even if no one listens. Thank you for listening, it means a lot. :)
Gonna be real with you. I do not smoke. I do not vape. It is not something I need to quit, but I'm deffo buying a Fum to sample because of this. I'm always a slut for cheapass percussion, especially if it can be done on record or live.
those are both songs from the album before her most recent one, so that isn't even the "new" billie he's talking about in this video, really. also i think you're letting a personal bias bring up a dissonance in opening yourself up to perceiving her newer songs in a way that allows you to view it as something unique rather than part of "old billie"

See Anthony fantano's very eloquent deconstruction of beato.
what bass guitar do you use?
That's a Squier 40th Anniversary Jazz Bass :)
@@AudioHaze thanks, it sounds awesome
This is a good video, TH-cam.
Thanks Alec :)
Gonna be real with you. I do not smoke. I do not vape. It is not something I need to quit, but I'm deffo buying a Fum to sample because of this. I'm always a slut for cheapass percussion, especially if it can be done on record or live.
LOL yeah there's definitely lots of really good sounds in there, email me if you want the sampled sounds I'm happy to send them over
gabbledigoop
glibbledeeglomp
mann you're great but please use 200hz low cut to your voice. please
Maybe something with the SM58 didn't vibe with my vocal chain, usually don't have any complaints on my VO mixing
Plz work with me on my upcoming album? I think I have a pretty great project. Very much Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, and Lizzy McAlphine inspired.
I'm sorry, I'm not taking clients at the moment but I'm honored you want to work with me!
would it be possible for you to analyze circles by Mac miller
I would LOVE that honestly, circles makes me cry all the time lol
@@AudioHaze jon brion is such a good producer, look at eternal sunshine
Damn, there's only one like button and I've used it already
I guess you'll have to wait for the next opportunity :((
U look like fantano with hair
I get that alllll the time but I don’t see it 😭
I honestly liked old bllie much more. The recent songs (WWIMF, HTE) feel alot like she's just copying herself.
those are both songs from the album before her most recent one, so that isn't even the "new" billie he's talking about in this video, really. also i think you're letting a personal bias bring up a dissonance in opening yourself up to perceiving her newer songs in a way that allows you to view it as something unique rather than part of "old billie"
Day 1 of asking for audiohaze to make a video about dayglow and how to produce his vocals
WHO IS DAY GLOW
@@AudioHaze he is an artist that became very popular on tik tok in 2020. He get viral because of his song "Can I call you tonight?" From his debut album "fuzzybrain". He is a really good artist! Idk if his music is simple to the point that it dont deserve a video but, if that is the case, i think you should do a video about joji!
