I'm only one minute in and I'm in awe of your editing, the storytelling, the sheer QUALITY of the content. Dude, I can't get enough of your videos. Love love love. Give us more.
Honestly you’re videos are the final push I needed to start recording my album! Thanks for showing, that recording your own music isn’t about fancy gear - but making the best of what you have ❤
the content of this channel has elevated to such a high level in recent time that it's incredible. PLEASE PLEASE do not stop you are amazing, engaging, educating, and inspiring tons of people like myself im absolutely sure of it!!!!! thank you for another banger of a vid
woow thank you so much my friend you have no idea how happy that makes me! The editing can be pretty intense but comments like these make it all worth it
Dude, you are doing an INCREDIBLE job! It's amazing to see how much you've grown as an editor and content creator! Your videos make my day. :) Looking forward to the next one (no pressure)!!!
To my knowledge legendary bassist Tony Franklin was still using a Line 6 Pod for his bass recordings up until recent years, and he very well still may be using it to record massive hits.
Mark says he used an 8 channel Neve Sidecar to mix Mr. Brightside. There's an interview he did with Gearspace on July 11, 2022. It's called Interview with Mark Needham. The question dealing with the Killers is literally the last question. Lots of interesting stuff throughout the interview though. He seems like he'd be great to have a drink with.
Yeah he mentioned using a Neve EQ, so I'd assume that this 8 channel sidecar probably had some EQ on those pre's as well :) I used that interview as research actually!
Great inside look at a great record, thanks. Another fact to be aware of is how many successful songs are actually made with a poor or limited equipment. It's easy to say that the music overall financial lost in the last decades has been balanced with the plugins/daws/devices's income. Killing the creativity as a collateral effect.
Yeah I made a video called how I mix my voiceover or something not too long ago! Still pretty much using the chain I showed for the RE20 just on this mic :)
Seeing them play Mr Brightside at 7:45 in the video and everyone is just standing there and not reacting is soo uncanny. It's like the musical equivalent to a post-apocalyptic abandoned city
Growing up i always thought Mr Brightside was from an English band but it wasn't until in my teens i found out it was American although i don't think i have even heard the UK version I've always listened to the US version along with it's Iconic Music Video.
I believe there is a recording between the demo linked and the UK/US single recording that I don't think is addressed: th-cam.com/video/k4GmAKq_hyc/w-d-xo.html The intro is longer, and drum and bass lines are different, so think its distinct recording.
As all was, great content. Thanks to you, I now own M57. Lend me your thoughts. I'm looking at the RE20 or the Lauten you're using in this video. The application would be for voice-over. Your thoughts? Thanks.
It depends on how noisy your environment is! I prefer the Lauten on my voice, but since it’s a condenser it’s slightly more sensitive. It’s also a bit brighter and has more top end detail, which can be good or bad depending on your voice. I personally love both, but for voice over i think the Lauten takes the edge
Yeah I think that’s a lot to do with the prominent bands at the time, and the UK was right on the rails of the British Invasion so probably had a huge influence on the next wave of music
LINE 6 & SM57 MADE ONE OF THE MOST TIMELESS SONGS OF THE MODERN ERA..IF NOT, ALL TIME. FUCK YO GEAR. FUCK WHAT PPL THINK. ALL THAT MATTERS IS THE END RESULT!!!!!
@@AudioHaze I know that mic. You mentioned on the video like they might have used this mic or it might be rumour. And i feel they have used 57s in this record 😀.And i love your storytelling and the research and everything uve been doing. Shows in the quality of the contents and hard work you've been uploading and doing. Keep it up 😀
Demystifying the BS again buddy. It's the 'bigger than the sum of its parts' thing.. the art of capturing the magic... The thing is if the magic isn't there it doesn't matter what you have to catch it with.. also it's being able to aware of it when it is and be ready. It's a truly wonderful craft ✌️
The after effects you apply to the archive footage and images is seriously distracting it actively hurts my eyes I can't finish your vids that seem to be really cool, please consider getting rid of the gaudy effect
@@AudioHaze I can't point exacly what it is... well, I'm 37, so bands on this genre were a thing when I was in college and played an important part on that period... maybe I became tired of all these bands, hahah. I don't think it's (only) the vocals. I'm primarily a drummer and I'm not a fan of the choices the drummer made. I think the overall vibe don't speak to me very well. Anyways, it's a personal thing. They don't deserve my hate and your video is great (all of them to be honest)!
song isnt even that good, the melody is decent but derivitive has a contagious energy though they got lucky, it happens, one in a million, production is mediocre sound
This video will single handedly add two more weeks to Mr Brightside’s run in the charts😊
Hahaha I would be HONORED

Awww thanks so much!! They’re KILLERS (pun intended) to edit so that means a tonnnn my friend, more on the way!
Please never stop making videos, for music nerds this channel is a goldmine
Eyyy as long as people keep watchin I'll keep 'em coming :)
All these Before the Break videos are really inspiring. Thank you for all the effort you put into them.
Yessss that makes me so happy to hear, that's the goal at the end of the day :)
You have a gift for finding and telling these stories. Love it. I wonder if there's a MCR story you can find and share for us.
Thanks dood :) yeah I’ll see if there’s anything out there!
did and didn't expect you to be here at the same time Andre haha!
Looks at my SM57 and SM58, "It's probably my gear holding me back. Certainly not my talent."
*hard work and studying
talent is over rated
Weird, we just discussed this exact song with our band yesterday, as inspiration for our next album. Talk about synchronicity.
Hell yeah glad I could be of some sort of sign or service :)
AND the content of your video is excellent
Video was so good I watched the whole Riverside ad lmao
Hahaha thanks man!
Love these videos man - so interesting, helpful, and the production quality is dope!!
Thanks man that means a ton!!

I can't belive that the sound that I always use a reference of an 1176 It's that early ProTools emulation.
hahaha honestly its a pretty good plugin! I'm so used to it sometimes I don't give it the credit it deserves but its been used on tonssss of records
@@AudioHazeI didn't know it was so used. I don't think people realize that we are this used to the sound of software.

Awesome video man. Keep up the good work.
Thanks dude!
Dude, I’m addicted to you channel. And this addiction got me using my home studio in a whole different way… thank you
These videos are always so inspiring!
Hell yeah happy to hear :)
Great work as always sir 🤘🏼💛✨🎶

wow that's sick! Maybe I was too hard on the bass pod lol
I can see you some day interviewing the musicians that you make these mini-documentaries about. Enjoyable and professional content as always!
That is the DREAM man, hopefully this series can turn into that one day who knows :)
great piece, you killed it, they killed it too...i mean, the killers. btw their cover of electric blue is a.m.a.z.i.n.g.
Thanks dude!! Yeah they’re a super fun band :) I’ll check out that cover tho! I haven’t heard it yet

I love this video. I used to play in a killers tribute band. There was a bass line 6 pod that I regret not getting. Lol.

Great video man !! I'm not sure if The Killers are recognized in the pantheon of classic rock bands, but they absolutely should be!!!
Absolutely love these videos! I'm looking forward to the next ones!
Thanks dude! I think we should have another coming out this week :)
I have been WAITING for this video 😮
Happy to deliver my friend :)
That riff will always sound like joy divison/new order’s “ceremony” to me
Yeah I can see that :)
A 58 in rock always sounds great, most don't think to use it when "better mics" are available.
God, I love your videos! Gives me hope in the algorithm haha.
Your videos are getting better, and they were already fantastic
Thanks so much Luka!
I love the stronks debut albums this is it!
I freaking love this channel

HAHAHA pls don’t lose your job lol
love your work man :))

Awesome AWESOME videos everytime
Thanks Evan, tryin our best our here!
I remember very well, there was a good rock scene in Nairobi Kenya. There were two versions of Mr Brightside. One had a 'dry' mix
Nice! I assume the dry mix would have been the British one right?
@@AudioHaze Yes, ai think so. It had a rough sound to it, mono toned , with less vocal variations.
Great stuff man!
Thanks dude! :)
Good stuff! Thanks!
Thanks for checking the vid out in the first place :)
the killers are my favorite american british band
50% British, 50% pure Las Vegas lol

Is This It. Not "This Is It". Criminal.
Sorry about that one, just confused my wording and didn't catch it in post! Hope the rest of the video was enjoyable.
i love this series 🎉

Great vid! Any chance we could get a “how to mix” for the Hot Fuss era?
That's a cool idea! I'll definitely make a note on the 'ole idea list
@@AudioHaze instant subscribe!
I might be wrong, but quite confident that the guitarist (Keuning) used Ibanez explorers, not Gibson. Just in case anyone finds them cheaper!
Oh gotcha! Had no idea, must have been from the lawsuit era then? Back before IP laws slammed the remakes off the market lol
They did it by writing catchy song

Not a chance in hell that someone as experienced as Mark Needham would record an entire band using SM57s only.

@@AudioHaze thanks for the response 👍
Unfortunately, these type of mini-docs are hindered by the lack of musical context. I get it but...meh
I had some tracks in the first videos of this type, but unfortunately UMG and co didn't really like that lol

But, for some reason, bands like The Killers annoys so much!!!!!!!!
I think maybe the vocal style isn't for everyone, its a bit polarizing :/

I might get flamed, but I don’t like the mix. The vocals are buried.
Ah damn! I really like the mix, the introduction of the full stereo guitars right after the intro is so powerful imo
